Got to hand it to the father for holding out that much.
I would have sent one in the moment someone grabs my collar and yells needlessly right in front of my face, like that.

and I must admit that selection scene took me by surprise. Yes, he was showing signs of addiction, but damn to be able to imagine one right in front of a crisis

isn't it already impossible for Kyousuke to turn back into his normal life after imagining such scene selection on such event.

He wanst normal life but he himself is turning into not your normal person like his childhood friend minami.

Kirino>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Manami.
Between Kirino and Manami is a hard choice but Kirino has features that Manami does not have. wincest is not me so I would go with Kuroneko if any of them heck yeah!

Not at all. I don't like Kirino that much myself, even though I usually go crazy over little sister characters. Manami is a very charming character, she was just adorable in this episode.

A phrase I'm fond of saying about gaming applies to Kirino here: You can take the gamer out of the game, but you can never take the game out of the gamer. These things (games, anime, manga, figures, etc.) are our interest, our passtime, our passion even. They are as much a part of us and our identity as anything that's defined as "normal" by society.

Are we weird for it? Of course we are. We prefer our 2D stories and worlds to ones comprised of real people and places, and like Kyousuke said we get excited about them. Stupid-excited to the point that we sometimes just can't help ourselves. But for all the bad things we're force fed by the media and so-called "experts" about anime and games and their fandom, there is plenty of good in them too, and anything that brings people together like it did for Kirino, Kuroneko and Saori can't be all bad.

Epic episode was epic. Kyousuke stole the show for the entire second half and basically said everything I've always believed about "geeky" hobbies like gaming and anime. I'm not sure I would've been quite so gung-ho about his final defense of Kirino's eroge, but sometimes when you know a punch is coming anyway the best thing to do is just clench your teeth and take the shot. Especially if it's so your little sister doesn't have to take it instead.

And I wonder how many different names Kirino went through before settling on "Aniki" for Kyousuke. Appropriate enough, in my opinion. He was quite GAR there taking on his father. Kamina would've approved.

10/10 episode for me. I try not to give out 10's too often, but this episode definitely earned it. And I so knew they were going to Comiket at some point in this series. It was a foregone conclusion. I foresee hijinks and hilarity aplenty next week.

Anyway, like you, I simply doubt there are people as pure as you that are out there and they are the majority when all the stats and studies I've ever heard and learned show otherwise. So let's just agree to disagree.

But having R-18 stuff? Even if it is not a crime, not allowed/tolerated, for me. Like you said, "openly sanctioning watching porn merely for the stimulation of the sex drive is wrong."
I guess this is also where we differ. I rather have people "openly sanctioning watching porn merely for the stimulation" than have people "bottled up with desire, and then does out and rape people, have unprotected sex, under-age sex, and treat relationship like sex conquests."

PS. just found something interesting and relevant for this discussion. The Age of Consent for sex in Japan is 13, though prefectures can have ordinances for regulation up till 18. So technically one can have real sex if he/she desires (dependent to where they live) instead of playing simple eroge. Both are legal, and who is to say those actions are wrong?

After all as late as mid-1800s people are allow to merry at incredibly young age in various parts of world including U.S. Ethical norms and standards changes over time and places, it's silly to judge others just because the values one holds is differ from them.

Allow me to second DJ Lowrider's sentiments here and say 10/10 on this episode, for sure. He said pretty much everything I'd say, with one expansion.

When she did call him 'aniki' just at the end?

I died. My body was NOT and never shall be prepared.

That would nice to see Kuroneko playing those games....her fapping would be even more of course if any fan made something of it. Doubt it would be anything of any sorts in the anime itself.

Tell that to the moral and ethics people. Problem is minor are not responsible enough. That's why I read a UK article that charged a 8 and 9 year old with rape and to register as sex offenders. It was to show for people to be careful.

Why only to a degree.....one can never know anyways 100% the mentality of a person like a family member suddenly killing all of its family.

3) He decided to heed both his kids' request, and his "I don't care anymore" kind of turn-a-blind-eye-on-it approach was the easiest way to do it (and relatively asian in style)

4) The punch against Kyousuke was to establish that he was still the boss in this house, and to punish Kyousuke for his flabbergastingly unacceptable behavior.
Well that's a interesting analogy......I do agree with the punch thing mostly. I am assuming also you knew that the father had ideas that Kirino was lying.

Excuse me about this one but if you are addicted with masturbation and eroge and cannot achieve orgasm anymore then eroge becomes like a drug to you in this case and there are other examples like this.

Withholding is not the issue but the issue of how to show it to them so they do not engage in any of it until they are 18. In Kirino's case she could because she has job that pays well.

Eroge is a criminal offense basically because it features fictional under age people but also taboo things. Kyousuke having a porn stash is more of the norm for guys in Japan. Girls having that is more of the not normal at all. In fact for a model it's absurd.

On further reflection, I do want to say that I find it silly when people judge characters for their mistakes as if that should reduce the value of the story itself. I see various comments suggesting that they feel no sympathy for Kirino or they think Kyousuke should have handled this or that differently...

Sure, no one wants to go through a story where no maturation is had and everyone just continues to bungle around like fools, but if people didn't make some mistakes and act unreasonably at times, there would be no stories worth telling. They'd all be Happy Fuzzy Bunny Time, and boring as all get-out.

You may say "How do I sympathize with such people?", sitting there and considering that you (think you) do not make the kinds of mistakes the characters make. The answer is simple: by realizing that when you were their age, you definitely exhibited plenty of bad behavior and made plenty of bad choices of your own, and if you were in their situation, you would be even more prone to it.

In this light, this episode felt extra-realistic to me, because Kyousuke's reaction, while coming from an admirable place and being quite GAR in its execution, also had the kinds of failings (physical reaction; brash, off-the-cuff decision about the R-18 stuff) that a guy Kyousuke's age would have been very susceptible to. If you continue to fight relating to characters by judging them against yourself (or against some standard you have of 'adult' behavior), rather than being sensitive to the story as a whole and the fact that average kids are going to act like average kids, you will never be completely satisfied with a character.

The resurrection spell that sufficed to bring me back from Aniki could not have worked if she had gone that far, for you see, my soul would have been annihilated until no shred of my being remained nor could be recalled.

I am glad she used "aniki" because that's what he deserved. You can sorta use the other ones the same way, but it doesn't quite hold the same meaning.

But it was how she said it that did us all in. The voice acting was great, animation top notch and the scene directed perfectly.
