Tokyo 2020 Olympics

So if anyone has been following the news, Tokyo has been selected as the host city for the 2020 XXXII (32nd) Summer Olympic Games.

http://www.olympic.org/news/ioc-sele...c-games/208784

You're wishes have come true. My guess is good as yours: it will be a phenomenal event to portray Japanese pop culture to the rest of the world in a mass stage watched by billions across the world. \(^o^)/

Hatsune Miku singing the Olympic theme with billions across the globe watching it? It might just become reality in 7 years! Then again, in the movie AKIRA, Tokyo was to host the 2020 Olympics, but in 2019 Tetsuo happened so...

In any case, to all the younger, next generation folks and athletes across the world who love anime and Japanese pop culture, we all await you to come to Japan in the summer of 2020. Japanese and foreign otakus, unite in 2020 and let's all have fun! We'll all await you and together we will make it the BEST Olympics the world has ever seen, as the start of a new younger generation who embraces openness, fun, and culture.

みんな、まっているよー!(^O^)v

We will have Jaegars come 2015, and Patlabor in 2014. Don't worry

A lot of the venues are actually taking place in Odaiba, right near Ariake Big Sight which is where Comiket takes place. That was the place the 1/1 sized Gundam was at.

Who knows? Maybe it will be there...?

I hope that rock bands like UVERworld will still be around by then.

Making a possibility for them to perform in the Opening/Closing Ceremony.

Well, this may finally get me to suck it up and visit Japan. I was pulling for Tokyo, but thought Istanbul would get it.

Especially since a lot of start athletes of 2020 are likely teens right now.

Summer huh, I wonder if they are willing to change the dates to later one. I know it is called "Summer" Olympics, but last time it was held in Tokyo was done in October as well, and if the summer weather in Tokyo is what I am thinking it is, the weather is going to be brutal.

Congrats on Tokyo gaining the 2020 Olympics.

What's amusing is that I sense the same kinda scepticism among some of the natives here, that we Brits had about the Olympics for years.
However with the amazing opening ceremony and the epic gold medal count, when I visited last summer, the air was charged with positive energy and I think for once we made the most of it and surprised ourselves, lol.
(We're usually a negative bunch by nature)

There's a lot of distrust and anxiety in the air here, especially towards the government who have been campaigning like there's no tomorrow to get the 2020 games, but don't put such effort into kicking some asses to the higher ups to deal with the current Fukushima issue.

Here's hoping that for once, the citizens and government work together to solve the current issues of the country and present an amazing event, rather than remain separated or playing 'ostrich-burying-head-in-the-sand' game for the next 6 years...

In some ways, I'm kinda excited about what changes await this country as they now begin to prepare and work towards this.
It may very well be the shake-up that's been needed for years.
The world's watching them super closely now...

They needed money I guess. The Fukushima issue is no small deal considering the radioactive water it leaks out day by day.

The Abenomics have seen alot investments running as it seeks to pare the JPY to make exports more lucrative. Meh, I think exports will really pick up with them getting the Olympics, but for how long?

Within hours, word of the nearly vacant property had spread. Popping up once every two years, the Olympic Village is a boisterous city within a city: chock-full of condos, midrises and houses as well as cafés, barbershops, arcades, discos and TV lounges. The only thing missing is privacy -- nearly everyone is stuck with a roommate. So while Lakatos claimed a first-floor suite for himself, the remaining rooms were there for the taking. The first to claim space that night were some Team USA track and field fellas.

"The next morning," Lakatos says, "swear to God, the entire women's 4x100 relay team of some Scandinavian-looking country walks out of the house, followed by boys from our side. And I'm just going, 'Holy crap, we'd watched these girls run the night before.'"

And on it went for eight days as scores of Olympians, male and female, trickled into the shooter's house -- and that's what everyone called it, Shooters' House -- at all hours, stopping by an Oakley duffel bag overflowing with condoms procured from the village's helpful medical clinic. After a while, it dawned on Lakatos: "I'm running a friggin' brothel in the Olympic Village! I've never witnessed so much debauchery in my entire life."

if this doesn't get them motivated nothing will.

I never care much for the official mascots, but now I find myself quite curious about seeing it.

As much as I would love to see an opening ceremonies performance by Hatsune Miku, I really dread the idiotic comments that NBC's commentators will make during the performance.

Would love to see how them do a "Rings-chan" or something as an Olympic personification (Doraemon as another Olympic mascot would be fitting as well). I wonder if "Rings-chan" is more of a tsundere type or more of a genki girl type.
