We need to get this over to "Current Series" so at least a few more people might notice the thread...

This one was under my radar too until I saw some people talking on ANN about it and I really did like the first episode. It was strange, I can't tell if it was parodying the "alien comes to Earth, hijinks ensue" trope or playing it straight and just somehow made me laugh. Guess this will replace Squid Girl for comedy in the winter season.

"You got a girl you like?"

Love that little dig at generic anime next ep previews that they often do in anime these days.

Overall the first ep was pretty good. A great start so far. Not one loli or moe girl in sight.

Animation was higher quality than I've come to expect from shows recently (can't help it; I just don't like the un-shaded, thin-line look in a lot of shows lately), without any glaring faults. OP and ED are probably the best of the season.

The show itself wins points with me just because the alien doesn't look like a twelve year old girl, and doesn't meet the human protagonist by hitting him in the face with her crotch or boobs. I can't actually recall a series like this before where the alien wasn't a girl, actually. Points for decently creative alien design, too, though it did remind me a bit of a creature I saw in "Light Years" a long time ago.

The writing for episode 01 actually seemed pretty sharp, and didn't fall into the "anime" level of Japanese (you know, where you only have to recognize about 10 - 20 phrases and "baka" to know what they're saying), and actually seemed like some effort was put into the dialog to make it stand out from the crowd. That really counts for a lot, to me. I hate it when I realize that even my pathetic Japanese vocabulary is sufficient for me to watch a show without subtitles.

Hard to give an initial rating, really, since it was more or less just a setup episode, but if it keeps up the pacing, dialog, etc, this looks like it should shape up to be this season's sleeper.
I totally agree!

Actually, the feel and wit of this first episode is really entertaining. The general population seems to not pay attention unless you have a panty shot in every episode, sadly.

It is an interesting premise, and I will like to see where it is headed.

Except it seems that if the invader isn't a cute girl but a hot guy nobody's watching

The manga is short and finished,so for once 13 episodes would seem to be able to tell the story, the whole story.

Yeh the ET reference was funny. Good first episode, definitely a keeper.

Also I have to admit I fully expected the alien to turn into a cute girl and it surprised me when it didn't. I suppose that tells me something about today's anime.

The absence of action for a sci-fi is rather surprising. Looking forward to the funny moments at the expense of the main character though!

For those wondering on the title, from the Japanese wiki, it says the title Level-E is partly an influence of the LEVEL 4 movie, and the other part is due to Yoshihiro Togashi's misconception that alien is spelled starting with an 'e'. It was later connected with E.T. though. A coincidental but rather apt beginning for a comedy!

Decided to watch the first episode on a whim, and it was very good. You guys are spot on with the lack of stuff that inundate modern anime. Definitely a breath of fresh air. Hope this gets more attention.

Damn right. That's always what i'm looking for these days.

Amusing first episode. Nothing fantastic, but kept me interested all the way through.
Production values are higher than Pierrot's usual fare too.
Can't wait for more.

As many have said, that's one solid first episode. It's worth watching alone for being an adaptation of a JUMP manga from 95-97, plus that very heavy old school Sci-fi feel. Also can't forget this is a must watch because David Productions are behind it .

I knew Takehito Koyasu was in this show, so i straight away thought he'd be voicing Prince, though Namikawa does a good job. There's much more to his character, and i can't wait to find out. Manga is tempted, though when the first episode delivered, i really see no reason to spoil the experience. Plus this show has a Kunihiko Ryo score, yes that means there are two shows airing (the other being Tegami Bachi that both have Kunihiko Ryo as the composer. Someone pinch me, i must be dreaming.

Suprisingly it's much better than Manga. Fortunately I only read chapter one and it's better to watch in Anime. Visual looks nice I love it and that Alien Voice lol
Miho looks cute too

The first episode was nearly flawless. Stylish opening, witty and funny dialogues, intringuing plot and very enjoyable characters. What more can you ask for? I was shocked by the alien's true appearance... I thought he'd turn out to be even more beautiful, as is often the case with aliens in anime, but I was dead wrong. He's one of the hideous alien I've ever seen. Those screams were really creepy as well.

That was definitely a refreshing change. Even though I like some of them, I can only agree beautiful female aliens are way too overused nowadays. So, how long before people call this a yaoi show? (I just know it will happen)

If this was an adaptation of a manga from 2005+, then i guarantee there would have been a yaoi joke in the first episode.

Awesome first episode. It's a different cup of tea compared to many of the other (also awesome) shows airing this season, and greatly helps to complement to it. The funniest part was the CG hand puppet scene.

So far this (and to a lesser extent Beezlebub) is the only anime this season that looks to be worth watching for me. Though I'm hoping Fractal turns out well when it starts airing. Which means hopefully 2, maybe 3 shows to watch this season. Which would be an improvement over the abysmal last few seasons.

No panty-shots every three frames? Check.
No boobs that would be too large even on a 300 lb woman? Check.
No school harem phantasies as an outlet for sexual frustration strangely played out via 12 year olds pandering to what I can only assume is closet pedophilia in Japan? Check.
Good art and animation? Check.
Humor? Check. (Loved the hand puppets and exclamation of how he fit the profile for a psychopath, lol).

Anyways, have high hopes! These years, it's hard to find a show that isn't some panty-flashing, school-harem, humongous-boob, snore-fest.

I assume the "police" are aliens, since I'm assuming they're the "children" he saw as he was arriving. Guessing who's an alien and who's actually human is likely to be half the fun of this show. I'll go ahead on a wild guess and say the girl next door is actually an alien too. In case it turns out to be true and I can look brilliant. ;p
