I seeing it less being rich and more of how the relationship develops considered most woman works nowaday, though i do agree that being rich help a lot, most of the case i see is that even without the man, the girls are already having a good relationship with each others.

^^ It's not so much my bias as reality. I mean, how many harems do you actually find in real life - outside of antique Asian society? Of course you read around and hear of the dirty private lives of celebrities and socialites - bringing that to the daily lives of 90% of the world's population is just a pipe dream. In fact, forgetting even about the wealth aspect of it, are you willing to be in a relationship with more than 1 partner?
Well I had been in a triangular relationship with my friend pursuing the same girl before so I understood the pain involved. On one hand, you do not want to share, but on the other you respect the other guy for being in the same boat with you. But this sort of relationship is neither healthy nor prolonged. I mean, even if you are okay with it, society and your other friends would judge you for it. Your parents would tell you to get a life - particularly if the girl/guy's family is not rich. Your friends would joke and say "so do you have threesomes like in porn", but you yourself know that there's no way you're willing to share the same bed with another man - even if he's your friend. Even if you are willing, would he be? That's why harems don't exist in real life except in societies where they are already considered the norm. |

Yes, harems are something hard to form without the main person being filthy rich, but they still exist in real life. Just because you can't get one, don't treat it as something impossible and unrealistic. Your friends would joke and judge you? LoL, anyone would hardly do that in modern society. I know it might come as a shock to you, but couples willing to do threesomes are not something rare nowadays. The real problem here is that people try to project their bias and "real life" issues onto fantasy and another world societies. The majority of those stories tend to have polygamy as something completely normal in their setting, so actually complaining about it is already pretty dumb on itself. Another point that most people tend to disregard is: the situation and hardships that the characters of a story go through are completely different from what we go through in real life. Those characters go through battles of life and death and crises on practically a daily basis while supporting each other, so they would normally start to care very much about each other. Their relationship and attachment to each other improves along with time as well. Their society is different; their daily lives are different; their struggles are different, so it's a matter of course that their relationships would not go exactly like it goes in real life. Trying to apply the normal human behavior of real life people, who don't go through anything extraordinary, to that of those fictional characters is something pretty dumb to do. Goblin Slayer being harem is much more normal them it actually being not. I mean, even in real life you can get different girls to fall for you just by being handsome. If a guy like Goblin Slayer, who is handsome and goes around saving girls from rape and death, doesn't manage to do the same is what I would call unrealistic. Then you apply what I said about their society and their daily lives with each other, and you'll have something like what we have in this series.

^^ I won't say that you're projecting your 2D world common sense into real life, but you don't get girls falling all over you just by being handsome. My best friend is a playboy with the face of a donkey, but he get laid with different girls every other week. Reason? He's smooth-talking and knows how to satisfy in bed to the point where the women jump him. Now bring in a weird-looking guy in old armor who happily dig the guts of a goblin and pour them out on your freshly-washed linen... you think women are going to flock to him just because he's handsome inside? I'd take my real-life over your 2D common-sense.

^ Women gossip, they joke among themselves and talk about which guy is more handsome. But I don't see them flocking around handsome guys. Wealthy ones, smooth-talking ones, yes. In the 1st place a woman's sense of aesthetics is different from us men (my wife keep saying some guys with angular jaws are handsome, but I can't for the hell of it figure out how they'd be handsome - then again she'd also say the Leonardo decaprio in titanic looks too young).
I'm guessing neither of us is qualified to say what is handsome to females, but that's exactly why harems don't grow around guys with just looks going for them. If someone is good looking, won't you be more motivated to guard him against being stolen by others? ^^ Oh, if you have to ask it: bringing GS the guy in our world's context, it'd be like a bio-terrorism expert wearing his bio-suit all day and insist on spraying you with detox because he's too afraid of terrorists who had killed his entire town with anthrax. Would you kill to marry such a guy even if he's saved you from an anthrax train attack and is handsome inside? |

It not being common and being impossible are two different concepts. Had you read properly, you would understand that the point of what I said was directed at his statement of harems not existing in real life aside from countries that have polygamy. Besides, you completely disregarded the rest of my post, because I clearly stated that harems are something hard to get just not impossible. Here, read this:

^^ Have you been in service before? Not being sexist or anything, but women in service aren't exactly wall roses that blushes at handsome-fags. They are trained to overcome the gender-barrier so you don't really expect rescue-romances of that sort. Casual one-nights perhaps, to release battle-fatigue, but nothing long-lasting. And those civilians in services are usually married or sleeping with the top brasses anyway... nothing like what you'd see in fiction.
But back to how GS in modern world would be just as much a freak as he is treated in his own world. It need not be a bio-terror expert mouthing anthrax all day. How about a fire-man who won't take off his fire-proof suit and keep unplugging all the unused electrical equipment in the place. Society don't reward these behaviors - and the only people you find who love these sorts are their family members. The main issue I take is that the setting tries too hard to force relationships on the poor man. He is motivated, he's socially inept, he don't give half a rat's ass about anything else except goblins - just stick 1 girl (or at most 2) with him and be done with it! |

Well it's not like one girl was working. Both Cow Girl and Receptionist Girl tried their hardest but they were barely making progress. Adding Priest Girl at least allow him to connect to someone else during his hunt.
That said, one of Vol 3 killing have the the blind Archbishop pouting while hugging a pillow. Anyone know what's that scene about?

Just as someone said in this thread, those girls already have crush on GS without knowing how he looks. Being handsome at that point is nothing but a bonus. There goes your handsome-fags argument. Quote:
Your issue about forced relationship setting is nothing but a nitpicking. Whether it is real or fiction world, it was rather normal for multiple girls have a crush on the same guy, especially if he is competent in his field. As you said, GS is social inept, so it really doesn't matter if the author keeps throwing girls to him as long as he doesn't touch them physically or playing their feelings here or reciprocate their feelings . He is adventurer and of course he is bound to meet a lot of people, and it is not his fault if people like him or worshipping him. You could always treat it as a component to learn more about GS character. So based from your reactions on this, are you saying the social inept are not supposed to get popular around his peers or something? Also, I think you shouldn't judge GS so quickly as there is still a room for him to develop into a different or better person in the future arcs or something.
