Aren't those two ships from the Yamato Resurrection film? I remember seeing them in Newtype or Animage (can't remember which it was) back in the early 1990s.

. The uprated Yukikaze shows up at the end of the Director's cut. Don't recall the old battleship showing up.

I would guess they were upgraded with a mix of Gamilas and Earth tech. They are still really small.

I got the chance to watch the movie for the first time yesterday. And it was even better than I imagined. Everything fitted together perfectly. The plot, the pacing, the action, and the music. I hope we see the Yamato and her crew again soon.

What I found interesting was the fact that the Gatlateans were much better at Anti-Air-Warfare than the Gamillas. In the series the Gamillas didn't destroy a single missile fired by the Yamato, but the Gatlanteans shot down between 40 and 50% of the missiles fired at them. And they were also better at using fighter craft in conjuction with warships.

I would imagine this is because Gamilas destroyers and there battleships have a lot of missile tubes. Thus Gatlantis and Earth both have massive defenses systems on their ships, but Gamilas don't. The Gatlantis ships didn't seem to fire many missiles, but instead the quantum torpedoes, which even Yamato didn't shoot down.

Gamilas fighter tactics seem to be be commander specific and based on what carrier types and fighters they have on hand. Most times they seem to not have carriers with them, but when they do they are used more for planetary assault. At least the starfish shaped ones.

The battlecarriers are new and the multideck ones seem to be of all ages. We've not seen them in use in a normal situation with a proper fleet aside from this film. And they didn't have any bomber types.

I thought that the quantum torpedos were energy based and not missiles in the traditional sense.

And I think it would have been interesting to see the Dive Bombers and Torpedo Bombers from the Battle of the Rainbow Cluster in action again. Too bad they only had Interceptors.

I am assuming they are some type of energy torpedo, through it could have a physical component.

Hoping for more shows so I can investigate more.

Quantum torpedos are made from concentrated elements drawn from the blood, tears and fear of those Gatlantis has erradicated from the universe! GLORY TO HIS GREAT IMPERIAL MAJESTY, LORD ZUODER!!! :D

I have a question about the Yamato 2199 Official Data Book - Gamillas: On page 156 (right before the character section starts) their are multiple ships that I can't identify. Does somebody know about the origin of these ships and where in the series they appear (if they actually do).

The movie brings up another question: Did the crew of the Yamato tell Celestella about the Ark and the surving Jirels?

Ithekro

Don't know. I have noticed that both films have taken a wide course around episode 25. There is no reference to it at all. The ending of the Voyage to Remember is different than episode 26 (much like the Space Battleship Yamato movie on 1977 was different from the ending of episode 26 in 1975). Both have Yuki and Kodai on the bridge in uniform looking at Earth with everyone else. The episodes both have Yuki in a gown with Kodai in his uniform. That difference has remained between the two condensed versions of the story. I wonder if it is intensional for later shows.

I had wondered why Celestella was out that far in a torpedo boat. I guess she sort of knows about the Ark, and either thinks the rumor was proven false (crushing her hopes) or that she knows she missed the boat (also crushing her hopes), leaving her only with the wish to see Desler again.

I had wondered why Celestella was out that far in a torpedo boat.

When I first watched the episode it also struck me as odd that she used a torpedo boat, and didn't procur a bigger ship like a destroyer or a light cruiser. Or even a battleship (like the one she used in episode 14). And it looked like the torpedo boat run out of energy (I didn't even know until that point that these vessel were geschtam-capable). This also brings up the question what energy source is used by Gamillian ships. I don't think they have wave motion cores (apart from Desslers flagship).

I think the Gamilas ships use very similar technology to Iscandar (and thus now Earth) just not as refined as Iscandar. Dessler's huge cores were probably each doing as much as Yamato's one core.

Gamilas weapons are, at least in description, very similar to Yamato's weapons. The scale of power seems to be less with the older positron beam turrets verse the newer positron cannons. Yamato's positron shock cannons seem to be a step up from that, but they are also larger guns than most of the Gamilas fleet ships. Only the ships like Dommel's flagship and Dessler's ship have similar caliber weaponry to Yamato. That Yamato can take on ships of that size in one on one duels, suggest to me that Yamato is only about twice as powerful as a similarly sized Gamilas ship due to Iscandarian technology. Fortunately, most of the Gamilas fleet uses ships far smaller than Yamato, and none of the Gamilas ships have refined the technology to use wave motion energy as combat shielding, thought it is likely they use it on some level as Yamato's energy field was recognized by even an infultration agent.

Gamilas weapons seem to do two things depending on the amount of armor/shielding they encounter. They either pierce the ship, or they rake the ship. Yamato's shock cannons seem to pierce or cut through enemy ships, or bounce off entirely. Older Earth weapons seemed to just bounce of Gamilas hulls rather than rake them. Though I imagine that Earth weapons were able to damage Gamilas ships at close range prior to the Battle of Pluto, otherwise the fleet chatter wouldn't seem so surprised by their weapons not working even after having fought Gamilas for almost eight years at that point.

Cometine weapons appear to be less powerful than Gamilas weapons, but don't suffer the bouncing problem that Earth ships had (at least not against any Gamilas ship up to the size of a battlecarrier). They seem to be rapid fire capable and are readily able to shoot down incoming missiles, which seems to be something the Gamilas were not as good doing. Only the Megaluda's main battery seemed to do damage equal to say Yamato's shock cannons to a Gamilas ship. At least on a brute force scale. The same weapon did damage an unshielded Yamato, but hit a relatively minor location. The average Cometine weapons seemed to do enough damage to destroy smaller Gamilas ships, but required a massive amount of firepower to take down a capital ship. I don't think they would have been able to take on the red Fleet Battleship at the beginning of the film without the Magnaflame Gun. If Yamato's shock cannon's bounce off the bow, Cometine guns will bounce easy. Even the Magnaflame Gun was stopped by the armor of that ship's bow...for half a second.

Okay, putting this on hiatus while I work on a different writing project, but here's the Prologue and Chapter 1 of my fic entitled Ghale Gamilon.

It was a bright day.

Men, women, and children were out in the streets. That wasn’t unusual. No, what was different was the atmosphere. Where there would be a dreary monotony there was a sense of jubilation, triumph, celebration. Men and women hugging, kissing, throwing their hands and whatever was in them in the air; children gleefully joining in, some not knowing the why but the how.

One such child broke off the crowd, barely nimble enough to reach his family’s house. As soon as he entered he practically threw off his boots, scarcely managing to avoid hitting his carik, who clicked and ran off.

“Eka! Aka! Ejvka! Didja hear didja hear?! We won we won we won!”

A bass voice answered him. “As if we couldn’t tell from all the damn screaming outside. Close the door, Mihka, and get in here!”

Quickly complying, the boy rushed into the dining room where his parents and aunt were watching the tele. He was momentarily sad that the rest of his family wasn’t here, but that was easily forgotten. He jumped into the waiting arms of his eka, who had the biggest smile that the boy had ever seen. His aka made a grunt and ruffled the boy’s hair. That meant he was happy too! Ejvka was singing a beautiful song, but even though today was supposed to be happy she had tears in her eyes. He was about to ask her why when the tele suddenly switched to a shaky view of a stadium packed to the brim with even more people than Mihka ever saw in his life.

Ejvka ended her song and gazed at the tele with rapt attention. Eka held him tighter with one of her arms, the other hand clenching aka’s own just as firmly. Onscreen, a man with long hair and elaborate dressings held the stage, his companions clustered around him holding banners and flags with symbols and sigils. He even was able to recognize some of them from school! Onscreen the man cleared his throat and began to speak into the microphone in his hand.

“My fellow countrymen! Today is a day of great rejoicing! A day that will forever be marked in history as the greatest day for Alteria!

We have finally achieved our just victory! The Alterian people will no longer chafe and suffer under the rule of outsiders! Of ignorant oppressors who would never understand our way of life! Of our pain and joy! We have returned to our true state - as a sovereign people free from the influence of the blue-skinned devils!”

The crowd on the tele erupted into cheering loud enough that the camera’s microphone couldn’t handle it. The channel had to cut out for “technical difficulties”. Ejvka and eka wiped their eyes while aka looked like he had the barest hint of a smile on his face. As for Mihka, he was so giddy that he was practically bouncing in his eka’s lap. Even if he didn’t understand most of what the man was saying, everyone else was happy, so he should be too!

Ejvka spoke up then. “Oh it is a shame Genakji and Nienja and their daughter could not have been here. They would have been beyond overjoyed.”

Aka grumbled in response. “If they were in prison here, Leinhka and his people could have broken them out. Can’t deny them blue-skins were smart when they took the rebels they caught off-planet. As for their daughter, damn gojokvs pressganged her into their band of thugs.”

It was eka's turn to speak as she held Mihka tighter, a smile displayed proudly upon her lips. “We’ll find a way to help them, but we should focus on the happy times now, today. I know with Leinhka leading our people, Alteria will always have a bright future.”

---

High above the planet, a blue hand elegantly placed a cup on its plate. With a flourish, its owner declared the damning words.

“Now, play the melody of destruction.”

Like wolves, they descended on unwitting prey.

---

In a way, Mihka’s family was one of the lucky ones. Vaporized instantly by a bright blue beam of light, they never had to watch the massive city-sized missiles slowly descend upon them before scouring planet clean. Never had to feel the growing horror and despair as their fellow people were massacred, wondering when they would be next.

Their size belying their true speed, humongous bombs seemed to fall both agonizingly slow and frightfully fast. Oceans boiled, the atmosphere blazed, the very ground melted into molten lava as the weapons of destruction opened enormous bleeding ulcers into the planet’s crust.

Where the bombs missed, beams of bright, blue-white death carved through the land, creating burning and blackened lines as an angry artist seeks to defile a rival’s magnum opus. Towering spires were split in twain, monumental feats of engineering sliced and diced as easily as a heated knife through butter.

It was the ones who were in the remote lands, fleeing from the artificial armageddon in a futile exodus who suffered the most. Like metal wasps, aircraft flew above, swarming the hapless as they unleashed stingers of lead. Along the roads that made up ancient trade routes that once gave life, the bodies of countless lay dying, blood mixing with tears of the ones unlucky enough to remain unscathed before they too were cut down.

All too soon and all too slowly, the carnage ended. The deed was done. No need to stay on a worthless planet.

As the sun set on the once pristine world, all was quiet.

Eight years earlier...

It was afternoon when Bedarich Vlastenich was finally able to head home. His work required him to wake when the sun had yet to crest the horizon even in the early light of summer. As he opened the door to his home the house was darkened. Ordinarily he would have been a lot more worried, but considering the date and the juvenile whispering going on in the kitchen Bedarich felt he had an inkling of what was happening.

The moment he set a single foot in the kitchen he was stunned by the sudden brightness as the lights turned on. Before he could recover he was ambushed on either side by two figures each clinging like limpets. At once, his attackers yelled out their battle cry.

“Happy Birthday!”

Once Bedarich could finally blink out the spots in his eyes, he was greeted by the sight of his family - his sweet and kind mother, holding his adopted baby brother Meelk; his old but dependable grandparents, and of course, his adorable twin sisters clinging to his sides as they doled out congratulations and general merriment. Bedarich wouldn’t stop the smile that came to his face even if he could.

His mother held up her free hand to wipe a tear from her eye. “Oh my dear Bedy, already an adult. It feels as if it were only yesterday I was cleaning your diapers and playing with you and your rattle.”

“Hmph. All I know now is I can’n say t’grow up when he’s actin’ all young n’stupid.” Despite his words, the smile on Bedarich’s grandfather belied his real intentions. Good ol’ pepi.

“Oh shush dear,” his grandmother gently admonished her husband. “If anything it’s your genes that’s responsible.”

With that his grandparents started another round of lighthearted arguments. In the meantime, Bedarich concerned himself with prying off his younger sisters from body. If anything it only made them cling tighter.

“Happy birthday brachi!” The one to his left was Tille. She was the more “innocent” of the two, often weaponizing her adorableness to get her and her twin out of trouble. Bedarich found “The Look” hard to resist. When he asked babi only smiled and said The Look had been passed down the Vlastenich line for generations.

“Since you’re an adult now, does this mean you’re gonna get drunk and take some girls home? I bet we gotta put on earplugs if we wanna sleep tonight!” Meanwhile Cordechi with her impish grin loosened her hold on waist. While Tille tended toward the more physical sports and creative arts, Cordechi immersed herself in books and preferred the less competitive exercises. Unfortunately she often used her newfound knowledge for “nefarious purposes” such as inappropriate comments and pranks. He still had no idea how they got the lawnmower on the roof.

He sighed as his mother let out an indignant “Cochi!” He responded by a tactical tickle attack right under her armpits, forcing her to let go and utter a squeak as she fell to the floor. Her sister loosened her grip at this display and soon her giggles were replaced by squeals as her brother took advantage of the opening. Soon he standing over a puddle of laughing ten year old girls.

By then his grandparents have finished their short squabble, and with a chuckle his grandfather gestured him over. “Now’re ya gonna keep molestin’ yer sisters or are ya gonna cut the cake?”

Shaking his head as he walked over, Bedarich replied, “You know with comments like that you’re only encouraging her.”

“Bah, back’n my day kids knew fifty swears and could recite every bit of slang for s-”

Before he could continue his tirade Bedarich’s mother interrupted. “And thank goodness we’re long past that. Come on, now’s the time for celebration. My dear Bedy’s now a man.”

The festivities went on without a hitch save for one incident involving icing and the pet krall. Soon it was time for gift-giving. His mother gave him a gorgeous silver pendant with a gleaming blue stone. As he took them her hands told of long nights spent working on them. Tille had put together a beautifully detailed portrait of him, framed in an exquisite border. Cochi had written an elaborate poem about him. She helpfully pointed out all of the double-entendres and innuendoes, to his grandfather’s amusement and his mother’s exasperation. His pepi handed him a hand-carved and painted Polmeria carrier, muttering something about “damn military junkies”. Bedarich only smiled as he carefully took it into his hands. Babi draped him in a quilt filled with authentic traditional Zaltzi designs, explaining their meanings relating to him with Cochi popping in every now and then. As for Meelk, a hug and a clumsy kiss was an acceptable token.

As he looked on to his laughing and happy family, Bedarich put on a sad smile. Seeing them so joyful only made what he was going to say harder.

Clearing his throat, Bedarich waited until banter stopped and all eyes were on him. His throat was suddenly dry and he fidgeted slightly under his family’s gaze. He must have taken too long because when his mother asked what was wrong she had a worried expression on her face. Damn it.

Steeling himself, Bedarich took a deep breath. “I’m going to join the military.”

Almost immediately the mood fell like a weight. His mother’s visage was of shock and worry before settling on a combination of pride and sadness. His babi simply had a somber frown while shaking her head. Pepi was the most animated. His features were contorted, brow furrowed and jaw working unheard words. The elderly man then took a deep breath and sighed, placing his hand upon his forehead. Of all of them it was the twins who were the most excited, doling out congratulations and approvals. Bedarich smiled inwardly. Despite her attempts at maturity, Cochi was still a kid, and the thought of her older brother becoming one of the many war heroes she read about overrode any other thoughts. His krall, attracted by the noise, was turned off by drop in temperature and left. Traitor. Meelk simply babbled.

His mother was the first to speak up. “Oh B-Bedy…” her normally soft voice now quavered with sorrow. Oh how it broke his heart. “I-I’m so…so proud of-of you. It-it’s just…” She paused, bringing her free hand to her eyes. It came away wet. “I-I’m sorry d-dear. I…need to sit down.”

Glancing at his daughter, pepi turned to the twins. “Girls, why don’cha take the youngster outside. He needs the air.”

Tille complied immediately, scooping up Meelk from her mother’s arms and headed for the back porch. Cochi opened her mouth to protest but was pre-emptively silenced by a glare from pepi. As she left the room she looked back, hesitating, before wordlessly exiting. The silence that pervaded the room lingered for a while after the door slammed shut.

Shifting awkwardly, Bedarich attempted to break the silence. “I…I know that you all don’t approve, but I-” His pepi cut him off with a hand.

“Save yer breath, if yer anythin’ like a Vlastenich then yer not gonna change yer mind no matter how much any ov’us yell.” His piercing gaze made Bedarich swallow a suddenly dry throat. “All yer ol’geezer wants is fer you t’sit down n’listen why me an’yer babi disagree.” He nodded to his wife.

When Bedarich turned to babi, it was as if he was looking at a totally different person. Where she would usually have a vague expression of amusement the way an elder would at the antics of the youth, there seemed to be many more wrinkles, her eyes telling of many years of experiences, her face a mask of tiredness. When she spoke it was a somber tone. “Bedarich, you must understand this: Zaltz’s conquer may just be a distant footnote in your history books, but for me and your pepi it was our childhood. We grew up through the turmoil our beloved Zaltz went through. We saw and heard with our own two eyes and ears how our entire culture was turned upside down. We felt the struggle our parents and neighbors went through trying to assimilate or be left behind.

“Those were trying days. Many times it seemed as if war would start again, never mind how much more lopsided it would be than the first. So many Zaltzi things were lost. Toys, music, even things such as the stories we taught our children for hundreds of years were lost, replaced by those of a planet so far away. It may all seem natural to you, but there are many times I weep when I see our culture brushed aside like a fashion statement.” Her gaze became lost in reminiscence, an expression of sadness and resignation flitting for only a moment before shaking herself out of it.

“Your pepi and I tried to preserve as much as we could. Through your mother, and now through Tille, Cochi, and you, we taught you three nearly everything we knew about Zaltzi culture. While I know you’ve always been resistant to it, I’ve always liked to think that you’ll always keep it with you, and that you’d teach it to your children as we have. And now you’re going off to war, and I can’t help but feel it’s like a little more of old Zaltz dies.”

Bedarich was wide-eyed, stunned. Of course he understood intellectually what it meant for Zaltz when it was conquered, of the the cultural invasion that took place, but he never truly connected it to his grandparents’ teachings about Zaltzi culture.

Now he really felt guilty for not paying attention and dismissing them out of hand.

He was interrupted from his thinking by a sniffle from his mother. When he looked at her, she was a mess. Tears were flowing freely from red, puffy eyes, the remains of a tissue clutched in her hands. It was like a punch to the gut. “Mom?”

That broke her. She rushed out of her seat and tackled Bedarich in a crushing grip. Once again Bedarich was nearly paralyzed with shock, his arms reflexively wrapping around his mother. She was sobbing openly now, her tears soaking through Bedarich’s work clothes. “O-oh Bed-Bedarich! M-my d-d-dear, sweet son! Why, o-oh why must you do…do this?!”

Her body shook erratically with emotion, and her grip seemed to tighten so much that it started to hurt. Bedarich found his mouth flapping idiotically, unable to even form a single word to placate his despairing mother. He felt traitorous tears flowing down his cheeks, and every time they landed on his mother’s head she shuddered with sobs.

Eventually she seemed to calm down, and Bedarich guided his mother to a seat, pulling up one next to her and holding her hand. Babi also came over, making soothing gestures on her daughter’s other arm. Pepi had moved to just behind his daughter’s chair, grasping her shoulders and massaging them.

Bedarich was finally able to get his thoughts in order. With a deep breath he hardened his resolved. “M-mom, I…” And he already fucked it up. Great. Another deep breath. “Mom, I have to do this, because our family needs it. We’re already on a shoestring budget and my job isn’t paying enough for all six of us now and I don’t want you to keep working at that horrible place just to keep us afloat and…”

Now he was babbling. Another deep breath. “I know it’s dangerous, but the military gives all sorts of benefits to their families and if I can get honorary citizenship status for us we’ll have so many opportunities. We could get the twins and Meelk when he’s older into those good schools we never had the money for!” He tried to close it off with a confident smile, but it came off as uncertain if anything.

Surprisingly it had the opposite effect he intended. His mother broke down once again, throwing her head to Bedarich’s shoulder and staining his shoulders with her tears. “O-oh Bedy…” She continued to weep, her head buried in Bedarich’s soaked shirt. “E-ever si-since your…your f-father le-…ever since he l-left, I’ve al…always been s-so worried f-for yo-you.” A sniffle. “Always so w-worried that…that our situation w-would drive you to b-bad things. B-but no, you…you t-turned out so much better than m-my wildest dreams. Y-you’ve helped me so much, put our family above your own n-needs. A-and…and e-even n-now you y-you’re think-thinking of me and our f-family.”

As she continued to shed tears, Bedarich had nothing more to say than what he hoped were soothing, “It’s okay mom”, “Don’t worry mom”, and other such comments. His mom always had such a talent for making him feel so guilty even while she was praising him. Pepi had once again started massaging Bedarich’s mom while babi got up to go to the kitchen.

Bedarich’s mom managed to calm herself down. “Please Bedarich. Please just be safe. Just…please.”

His pepi spoke up. “She’s right. ‘Honorary citizenship’ ain’t worth it if you get yerself killed.” He stared Bedarich down with bright blue eyes.

“I will mom. I will.” He wasn’t sure if he was assuring them or himself.

At that point babi came in with some tea, which Bedarich’s mom took with a silent thanks.

Pepi made a harumph, declaring, “Well, now that all that’s ov’r with, I think it’s time t’wrap this lil’ incid’nt n’call in the young’ns,” he turned to the window and raised his voice. “Who defin’tly ar’nt peepin’ in on us like a buncha creepers!”

Any questions about who he was talking to were quickly answered as a muffled “eep!” and a thump were heard outside the offending portal. Babi chuckled and Bedarich couldn’t help but smile. Cochi was probably the one who came up with the idea.

Soon the thumping of juvenile feet followed the door opening, the twins trying their best to act innocent to varying success. Tille handed Meelk to their mother and went back to her fifth slice of cake that had remained uneaten due to the commotion. Babi glanced at the clock.

“Well Bedarich, we still have three hours before your friend picks you up. Why don’t we spend the time watching some old movies?”

A chorus of “Yes!”, and “Sure”, and grumbling answered.

---

The light was turning golden-red when the doorbell rang.

“That must be Karrel.” Bedarich gave his mother a kiss and ruffled the twins’ hair to their protest. His grandparents gave him a nod which Bedarich returned. Just before he reached the door, Bedarich called back, “See you tonight!”

“Goodbye my dear.” “Bye!” “See ya!” “Have fun.” “Don’ get arrested.”

Smiling, he opened the door.

“Bedarich! Happy birthday man!” Karrel immediately enveloped Bedarich in a hug, patting Bedarich’s back.

“Hahaha, good to see you too buddy.” As they separated, Karrel clasped a hand on Bedarich’s shoulder.

“Come on man, it’s Gamilon custom to get to the bar on their twentieth birthday.”

“Since when?”

“Since now!”

And they were off.

---

As a Zaltzi, Bedarich’s skin was a pale peach. Like most of his family, his hair was a light mauve, cut short enough to not get in the way but long enough that a brush was able to sweep it to the side. He was about half a head taller than Karrel and thanks to his job possessed lean muscles on his otherwise lanky frame. His nose was average and rather indistinctive, however he had what babi called the Vlastenich face: oval shape with slightly wider eyes and thin mouth.

By contrast, Karrel Eiferar was a pureblooded Gamilon. The starkest difference was the characteristic blue skin that marked the “natural” Gamilons from the many second-class citizens. Karrel was stouter than Bedarich, stocky to Bedarich’s leanness. Possessing a slight belly, Karrel was nonetheless one of the most fit people Bedarich ever knew thanks to his early morning “drills” running around the Eiferar Estate. Karrel’s square head was topped with golden blonde hair, and his chiseled features and impressive jaw were often bragged about.

Said jaw held a wide grin as Bedarich stared up at the neon sign.

“Peulz’s Paradise?”

“Yeah man! Got great food and beer, and it’s the only place that serves authentic Gamilon cuisine without any extra ‘flavoring’.” Bedarich didn’t need to turn to see the air quotes.

“But it’s so bland otherwise!”

“Oh come on; I don’t rag on you for buying that Gershen watch. It broke on you in, what, like three days?”

“Eugh, don’t remind me.”

They shared a chuckle. Karrel gestured inside. “Now come on, are we gonna stay out here arguing over food or are we actually gonna get some? The rest of our friends are already inside. Even Alzabet got here from her university.” Karrel nodded to him with a wink.

Bedarich let out a sigh. Alzabet, or Alzy as most called her, was a longtime friend whom Bedarich had a crush on since forever. Despite this he understood that the two of them weren’t meant to be more than friends; their interests diverged too much for a lasting relationship. She was studying to become a xenobotanist, he was more of a military nut. He’d very much rather not ruin a good friendship over an honestly petty crush.

That she was attracted to girls exclusively was also a factor.

Despite this, Karrel had the annoying habit of pestering Bedarich about it, though thankfully he had the tact to do it out of Alzabet’s sight.

As he walked inside, Bedarich said, “Karrel, you know she’s with Gauzel.” Gauzel was a rather shy girl, and Bedarich felt that her low self-esteem was partly why Alzy was so adamant in becoming friends at the least. Apparently there was more to her seeming shyness than it seemed, and from what Bedarich saw of their “courtship” it looked more like a romcom than a typical romance.

Karrel grinned as he followed. “Oh come on, just because you can’t touch the art at the museum doesn’t mean you can’t appreciate it.”

“Jeeze no wonder you’re a hit with the ladies.” Karrel stuck his tongue out childishly, making Bedarich chuckle. “Anyway Alzy and I have already talked about this. We aren’t getting together outside of your weird fanfics.”

Karrel made an overdramatic expression of pain, bringing his hand to his heart. “Betrayed by my own childhood friend! Bedarich you wound me.”

Smiling, Bedarich lightly punched his friend’s arm. “Oh suck it up.”

Before they could continue their mock argument any further, a familiar soprano voice called out to them.

“Hey you two, over here!”

Turning, Bedarich saw four figures at a small table. Two women, a Zaltzi and a Gamilon, and two Zaltzi men, Gerz and Volk Airnz. The Gamilon, Alzy, was waving them over.

“Hey guys!” Bedarich maneuvered his way through the crowd to the table, taking the seat next to Alzy. Karrel sat between Bedarich and Volk, closer to Bedarich than the Airnz. A waiter came by to hand them their drinks.

Gerz raised his glass. “So Bedarich, how’s it feel to be a man?”

“I dunno. Give me five years, a car, eight krall kittens, and I’ll get back to you.”

The Airnz brothers and Karrel burst into laughter, while Alzy let out a dignified chuckle. Her current girlfriend, Gauzel, only had a confused expression. She turned to Alzy, who explained to her, “Sorry my dear, it’s an in-joke.”

Gauzel pouted, muttering something like “never tell me anything.” Alzy’s response was to pull her closer and place a kiss on her forehead, making Gauzel blush red. This caused everyone else to chuckle, deepening Gauzel’s blush.

Volk turned to Bedarich and asked, “Alright, jokes aside, what’re you gonna do now? Lots of opportunities as an adult now. Last I heard you were saving up to get a medical degree.”

Gerz took a swig of his drink and chimed in, “Yeah, dad’s a doctor over at Zaltoz General Hospital. If you need help with courses or getting a job he can help out.”

Bedarich shook his head as he took his own glass. He never really liked alcohol, so his cup was filled with sweet tea. “I’ve changed my mind.” Placing a hand on Karrel’s shoulder, he continued, “Karrel and I are going into the military.”

Gerz sat upright, his shoulder-length hair whipping back and forth. “Woah, never suspected you of being an army man Bedy.”

His brother simply shrugged. “More like a navy man. Kinda suspected since you have all those ship models. Not to mention you and Karrel always go into your geeky soldier stuff.”

At this an indignant Karrel started arguing with Volk that it wasn’t just “geeky soldier stuff.” Before he could put his two cents in, Bedarich felt Alzy’s hand on his arm. Gauzel had left, and a quick glance around confirmed she was headed to the bathroom. “Bedarich, are you sure about this? This isn’t a decision to be taken lightly.”

To his credit Bedarich only felt a slight tingle where their skin met. Pushing aside any inappropriate thoughts, he said to her, “I’ve thought this over ever since Karrel suggested it to me. It’s the fastest way to help my family out Alzy.”

“But do they approve? Your mother has always had such a sensitive heart Bedarich.”

Bedarich frowned, fresh memories of his mother’s tearful talk punching their way to the forefront of his mind. “It’s…They were accepting. And they understood why I was doing it. Listen Alzy, I wouldn’t worry about them. It’s like the time we went to that mountain resort.”

“Yes, but unlike that this has a significant chance of death.” She sighed. “I know I’m not going to change your mind. It’s one of the things I admire about you.”

Bedarich’s face colored slightly. Shit.

Either she didn’t notice or she was kind enough to ignore it, Alzy continued, “You’ve already been told this, I’m sure, but stay alive. None of us…” She gestured to the Airnz brothers and Karrel, the latter having Volk in a headlock. “…want to lose you…” She paused, debated internally then added, “...or Karrel.”

“Like I said Alzy, don’t worry.” Bedarich gently removed Alzy’s hand from his arm. “I’ll be fine. Karrel and I have each others’ back. Right Karrel?” he asked, turning to the little brawl.

“Eh? I didn’t do it!” he yelped between breaths. He somehow got in recursive pin sandwiched between the Airnz brothers. Bedarich didn’t want to know how they managed to do it without breaking the table.

It was then Bedarich noticed Gauzel staring red-faced at them, seeming to shake in place before pointing a quivering finger at Alzy. “Y-y-yo-”

“What’s the matter dear?”

“I-I saw you t-t-touching h-his arm!” Bedarich suppressed a snort of laughter. So that’s what it’s about? “I-I bet y-you were w-whispering s-s-sweet n-nothings in-into his ear l-like mMUPH-!” The “muph” was caused by Alzy when she got out of her chair, took Gauzel in her arms, and planted an impassioned kiss on her lover’s lips.

Bedarich could hear the beginnings of giggles and chuckles were heard from the others, who were still in that weird position. He himself could barely maintain his composure. The mirth started to die down when Alzy and Gauzel broke apart. Alzy quietly said, “I won’t ever leave you, okay? You will always be the only in my heart, forever until the end of time.”

“…Just shut up and kiss me.”

That did it, all semblance of composure was gone to the wind. The Airnz brothers let go of/was let go by Karrel, the former falling to the floor and the latter trying to grasp a chair before failing and joining the others. Bedarich was doubled over on the table, nearly knocking over the glasses in the process.

A hesitant “ahem” finally brought Bedarich attention to the rest of the bar. They were in a corner, so not much attention was on them, thankfully. The source of the noise was a rather awkward-looking waiter, who was fidgeting in place and quickly glancing between the kissing couple and the three bodies spasming on the floor. “D-do you…want anything?”

---

When everyone finally calmed down, ordered food, and could sit in a chair without giggling madly or flushing wildly, it became a normal night with friends like so long ago. They traded stories, told jokes, and poked well-meaning jabs at each other, verbal or otherwise.

As Zaltz’s double moons shone brightly on the night sky outside, Volk raised a toast. “To Bedarich, for all you have given us, I wish you luck on your endeavor.”

Alzy followed. “To Bedarich, may he live a long a long prosperous life and prove himself worthy of whatever trials and challenges face him.”

Gauzel simply gave him a nod.

Gerz raised his cup with a sheepish smile. “Eh heh, Alzy said what I was gonna say, but better.”

Karrel patted Bedarich’s back as he lifted his drink. “To Bedarich, may the heavens smile upon you.”

Looking at his friends, many of whom he will never see again for another five years if he’s lucky, Bedarich lifted his own drink with a slight pang of sadness. “To all of us.”

A round of clinks sealed the promises and the night.

---

Two weeks were gone in two minutes.

Bedarich stared at his room, pristine for once. His lips curved slightly downwards, his eyes focusing and unfocusing as memories, recollections, impressions washed over him.

His bed, changed three times since he was born. They were barely able to fit it through the door when they were moving back to his grandparents’ house. He had the same starry beddings since he was eight, which now included a hand-made quilt.

Across the bed was his desk, containing a lamp and his computer. Next to his computer was a short poem, and above it was his shelves filled with all manor of spaceship models small and large. Most prominent were green vessels with weaponry sticking out. One stood out, wood instead of metal and plastic.

On his wall hung posters ranging from astronomy to military propaganda. Out of courtesy to his grandparents, the latter were placed on the wall with the entrance, hidden from view. In the center of the wall facing the door, a his painted visage faced Bedarich.

His hand found itself caressing a pendant around his neck. Doubt started to flow like
ants, crawling up along his limbs to coil around his heart. Was it worth it, the risk? Can he really let his family feel the heartache of coming home in a box?

Faint coughing heard downstairs galvanized his resolve. He has to do it. For his family, for his mother.

With one last look back, he joined his family downstairs and left home.

---

When they arrived at the spaceport, Bedarich’s friends were waiting for him. Karrel’s own family, consisting of his father, mother, two younger siblings, and a small retinue of servants, was already finishing up their goodbyes and leaving. As they passed, Karrel’s father gave Bedarich a nod while Karrel’s mother took his hands in hers and asked, “Keep him safe, Bedarich.”

With a nod and a smile he affirmed, “Don’t worry, I will.”

“Ay, Bedarich! Today’s the day huh?” Karrel enthusiastically greeted his friend. The others came soon after, giving their own greetings to Bedarich and his family.

“Yeah it is. Heh, it seems unreal doesn’t it? Honestly, I feel like I’m gonna wake up with the alarm blaring or somethin-OW!” Bedarich yelped as Cochi suddenly pinched his arm. He glared at her while she maintained an innocent smile.

“Hehehe, looks like you’re not asleep brachi.”

“Grr, co’mere you little brat!” Bedarich faux-angrily growled as he made to grab his juvenile assailant. The perpetrator giggled as she raced behind their mother, who was talking with Gauzel and Alzy.

Karrel was laughing at the short exchange, wiping a tear from his eye. “Man, I’m gonna miss that rascal.”

Bedarich’s smile turned sad. “Yeah…me too.”

They stood there silently as the others idly chatted. Bedarich felt the full force of what he was going to do hit him straight through the chest. His friends, his family, all of them will be gone from his life for five full years of his life. No more of his grandparents’ cooking, their grumbling and wise advice. No more of his mother’s sweet words and kind smiles. No more of his little sisters’ antics. Hell, he was pretty sure he was going to miss Meelk’s midnight wailing. He felt his hand grasp the pendant around his neck.

“Yo Bedarich, you okay man?” Karrel asked, concern evident on his features.

“…I-yeah, I am…” A lie.

---

Bedarich stared out the window. The vast darkness of space greeted him, a void filled with unlimited potential. He was staring at the brown surface of Zaltz’s second moon, Zoltaiz, illuminated by their sun, Zlunze. To pass the time, Bedarich tried to recall the facts he painstakingly memorized.

Zlunze was a yellow main sequence with five planets: Reuz, Zaltz, Ferig, Bespe, and Gorokin. The first three were rocky planets with the rest being gas giants. Reuz was at the midpoint between Zaltz and Zlunze and was the smallest body in the system. Zaltz had two moons and sat firmly in the middle of Zlunze’s habitable zone, while Ferig, which was twice the size of Zaltz, was just inside the edge. Before contact with the Great Gamilas Empire, Zaltz was in the middle of terraforming Ferig with domed colonies already littering the surface. Bespe was a fairly average gas giant with a milky white coloring. Gorokin, on the other hand, was a majestic dark blue and possessed a double ring. It’s largest moon, Gorokin III, split Gorokin’s massive ring system into two distinctive halves, creating a beautiful effect…

“Hull breach! Get down!”

Bedarich most certainly did not let out a girlish screech when he was tackled to the ground. Before he could truly panic, rolling laughter belied the true nature of the threat.

“Goddamnit Karrel get off me!”

Still laughing as he helped Bedarich up, the one guilty gave a wide smile.

“Aw come on, what else was I supposed to do when I see my good friend brooding?”

“Not give him the scare of his life maybe?”

“Where’s the fun in that?”

Bedarich punched Karrel’s arm.

“OW! Alright, alright. I was looking for you because I was gonna tell ya something…buuut I forgot what it was.” Karrel offered a sheepish smile as he scratched the back of his head.

Bedarich let out a suffering sigh. “So I suffered a heart attack for nothing?”

“Hey, I wouldn’t say that. Look, this whole ‘brooding’ thing doesn’t fit you. What’s on your mind?”

“Just…everything.”

“Thank you for giving me such a wonderful insight into the inner workings of your mind.”

“Oh shut up.” Bedarich couldn’t help but crack a small smile. “Okay, it’s just…you know I’ve always wanted to go up in a spaceship and travel the stars, right? But I also want to help my family. And now I get both handed on a silver platter, and all I gotta do is fight for my life.”

“Hey man,” Karrel placed a hand on Bedarich’s shoulder. “Just because you’re gonna be in the military doesn’t mean you’ll be on the front lines. There’s a bunch of places where the army just does patrols’n stuff. Hell, maybe you’ll even be stationed at Zaltz!”

“Hah, yeah that would be something wouldn’t it?”

They stood there for some time, gazing out at the stars.

A thought occurred to Bedarich then. “Oh, hey Karrel?”

“Yeah?”

“Why’d you decide to join? I never actually got the chance to ask you.”

His friend gave him a smile. “Well I’m glad you asked! Ya know how much of a military nut I am? When I completed the Junior Officers’ Program, they offered a chance to go on to actual training. How could I pass up such a great opportunity to serve our great empire?” Karrel snapped a crisp Gamilon salute: right arm in line with the body, forearm vertical, palm flat facing forward.

Bedarich chuckled as he followed suit. “Zar belk.”

With a severe look on his face, Karrel returned the expression. It lasted all of three seconds before the both of the broke into laughter. Stabilizing himself with a hand on the wall, Karrel spoke between gasps, “We’ll make an army man out you in no time.”

By the time they calmed down, Bedarich returned to gazing the dark depths of space, his hand absently thumbing the pendant around his neck. Before he could return to solitary reminiscing, Karrel spoke up.

“Oh, oh! I remembered what I was gonna tell you! So I was listening to the latest army stuff this morning, and apparently a scouting team found a new civilization.”

Bedarich raised an eyebrow. “Oh really?”

“Yeah, thing is, when the lead ship sent out the first contact stuff, the foreign fleet that went out to meet them opened fire! Without even opening up a line!”

“Wait what? Why would they do that?”

“That’s what I was thinking too!”

“Do…you think that they heard about the Great Gamilas Empire and thought that we’d come in guns blazing or?”

Karrel shook his head. “Don’t think so, from the reports it they haven’t even left their star system or got any Geschtam engines.”

“Wow, even those Gatlantis talked before shooting up everything.”

“I give them three, no two seasons before they fold.”

“Well aren’t you optimistic.”

Before they could continue, a female voice spoke from the PA system.

“Attention all passengers, this ship will be starting a Geschtam jump in ten minutes. I repeat, this ship will be starting a Geschtam jump in ten minutes. Please secure yourselves in your cabin soon.”

Karrel turned back to Bedarich. “Well, it looks like we’ll be off. See ya.”

“See you.” And with that, Karrel jogged away.

Bedarich made one last stare at the view outside. Black, dark, empty. Yet, pinpricks of light dotted the darkness, a promise of futures bright and dim. Of stories that are yet to be told; adventures not yet experienced. They lingered in Bedarich’s eyes long after he laid in bed, twinkling like fairies dancing through his mind.

Just watched the movie earlier on, only one word can comment on the movie, amazing!

Very keen to looking for new Yamato 2199 projects on future.

Also, the translator girl's voice sounds very familiar for me. After I checked the credits, found out she's voiced by the VA of Idolm@ster's Haruka... :heh:

I hope this is true

from
Our Star Blazers.com/Cosmo DNA Community

News from Japan: I'd like everyone to take a deep breath and remain calm and read this for what it IS, not for what it ISN'T. The new issue (#11) of Ship's Log, the Yamato Premium Fan Club magazine, is purported to contain an interview with Exec Producer Souji Nishizaki. A fan who read the interview reports on Twitter that early pre-production has begun on the remake of Yamato 2. Staff is being hired and research is underway at Xebec Studio.

I repeat, this is a fan relaying news on Twitter, and that's all the information that was given. When a copy of Ship's Log #11 arrives here at the nerve center in a week or two, I'll do an actual translation of the interview. For now, if this is true, it's the first reliable news from the inside. Fingers crossed that it holds up!

The hope is there. If the additional data is correct, it will start in Fall of 2016. Though it may be released just like Yamato 2199 was...in small batches of episodes in theaters every three months or so for a year and a half, then come on TV starting in 2017 or early 2018.

We will learn more as data comes in the following weeks and months.

I really, really want to see a wave motion engine equipped Earth fleet in action.

Posted this question on the CosmoDNA facebook, but asking it here too.

So I was thinking, in Odyssey of the Celestial Ark we saw the Gamilas fleet after the Yamato left to pursue the Megaluda was able to take on the Gatlantis fleet and get a mutual kill, with the Mirangal presumably taking down the majority of Gatlantean ships.

If the Nirvales wasn't destroyed by the Flame Strike Gun, do you guys think the Gamilon forces would have fared much better?

With both battlecarriers and perhaps the cruiser and destroyer that were destroyed by the Flame Strike Gun, the Gamilas fleet probably would do better against the larger Gatlantean force. I still imagine that all the lighter ships would have been destroyed, but with the additional firepower, both battlecarriers would likely have survived, though both would likely be moderately damaged.

Greetings fellow Space Battleship Yamato Fans!
I would like to post some fan made ship designs I've found, and also my idea for the EDF Andromeda. But before that, can we discuss the Andromeda, it's design and weapon systems?

http://kepfeltoltes.hu/150731/andromedacolor1_www.kepfeltoltes.hu_.jpg

I wish to know your guys opinion about the things on the hull of the Andromeda.

What I know:
Official wiki:
1x twin Wave Motion Cannons or 2x Wave Motion Cannons or 2x Diffusion Wave Motion Cannons
4x3 508mm Shock cannons
2x2,2x3 Pulse Laser AA Guns.
4x front torpedo tubes
8x missile launchers

Other, Japanese site states the following:
2x Diffusion Wave Motion Cannons
4x3 508mm Shock cannons
4x2 side shock cannon turret mounts
2x2,2x3 Pulse Laser AA Guns.
4x front torpedo tubes
8x Anti Aircraft missile launchers under the bridge

Apparently there are 3 different type of engines located on the hull: Main Wave Motion Engine, 4 set of secondary engines, 1 set of 4 tertiary or auxiliary engines (front section on the bottom)
The small opening on the nose is probably a sensor of sorts, apparently there are 3 doors leading for the hanger, one is a the bottom like on the Yamato, and 1-1 on both sides between the secondary engines.
The close range AA armament is very small for this size of vessel with only 4 turrets, though if the missiles were specially for anti starfighter use that could help the ship defend itself. Or is it possible that the ship designed so not to work individually but with a strong fighter cover and/or with specialised anti starfighter aka AA ships for defence.

And the unknown things on the hull:

1 - ??? Shield generator?
2 - semi rectangle doors/hatches of unknown purpose
3 - ??? Small angle broadside cannon mounts? Missile tubes? Manoeuvring thrusters?
4 - Command unit or Radar?
5 - ??? Fuel (Tachyon) tanks? Shield Generators?
6 - Rectangle doors/hatches of unknown purpose
7 - circular holes on the bridge, there are some on the aft part of the superstructure and on the top part of the bridge (aft)
8 - Unknown circular openings between the struts, probably the bridge AA missile tubes?
9 - Shield Generator? Manoeuvring thrusters? And/or missile tubes?

Well the 4 long doors on the nose and 6 smaller under the 2nd main turrets.
The missile launchers are the 6 circular openings just behind the 3rd main turret on the superstructure.

Ah. I was wondering that since they are similar to the four on each side of the wave motion guns. Speaking of the wave motion guns, what are you imagining the two smaller circles to be in each opening next to the main gun port?

Also which item are you suggesting as the two shield generators? The underside pods or the bumps at the wing roots near the front?

Have you considered doing other ships of this 2201 style? Or even the later space battleship Arizona in the multiple Fleet paint jobs. I know a friend of mine has a large number of Arizona miniatures that need painting, and they were looking at using you variety of Andromedas as inspiration.

One thing to note though. One imagines that since the Yamato in Yamato 2199 is bigger than the original, Andromeda will likely also be larger than the original from 1978. The new Yamato is 333 meters long, and has 48cm main cannons. If Andromeda is to have 51cm main cannons, than she needs to scale with the newer Yamato.

For example:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/ithekro/Scale%20Yamato%20vs%20Andromeda%201_zpsun89vpir.pn g (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/ithekro/media/Scale%20Yamato%20vs%20Andromeda%201_zpsun89vpir.pn g.html)

In this image, the Yamato is roughly 999 pixels long (three times 333 meters). The Andromeda is 840 pixels long (three times 280 meters). You can see the difference.

I've put those there to fill up the space ( the usual problem for fitting a circle in a trapezoid space :D )
But I think they are stabilizing hatches or to use for the dispersion mode for the Wave Motion Cannon, so she could fire two coherent beams or two flak style dispersion beams
More extensive description can be found here:

Will think about it, just the Andromeda was damn hard work to create!

In this image, the Yamato is roughly 999 pixels long (three times 333 meters). The Andromeda is 840 pixels long (three times 280 meters). You can see the difference.

You should first check the scales of images you compare. You need to adjust one drawing's scale to the other taking objects into account like same guns, windows etc.
The original Andromeda drawing which you can found here:
http://tzoli.deviantart.com/art/Space-Battleship-EDF-Andromeda-549119581
is 7000x4000 pixel large picture, I've posted a smaller one here so it could fit for the forum, and on pixiv large pictures cannot handle the upload system :(

Also for me the Yamato still have 46cm and 15,5cm shock cannons instead of 48cm and 20cm. the 333m lenght is too much in my opinion, the original Yamato could not hide such extra length and the wave motion thruster aft isn't 70m long nor the 46cm cannons could hide 48cm shock cannons! So for me: Old ships in new style is preferred.

But for you maybe the Andromeda II or Long Nose Andromeda is more appropriate?:

Looks like a 2nd post Yamato generation battleship

For scaling I took the two vessels given lengths times three in pixels and left it there to see the differences.

The 333m length was settled on to fit the original version's interior design, which did not fit the original battleship's length at 265.8m. They scaled the ship out based on the original bridge and found the ship scaled out to 333m long back in 1974. So they went with that. The official scale down in 1977 to 265.8 was dictated by the idea that the ship was built in the hull of the original World War II battleship. At least that is how it has been explained.

As for the year of the next series. Likely later given that the producers are looking at the timetable of rebuilding after the Earthquake/Tsunami/Reactor melt down in the recent past as an indicator that Earth would not jump back on its feet quite so fast after getting the planet almost destroyed.

Present prediction from the Japanese artists seems to be 2202 so the character will still be relatively young, while still giving a few years to rebuild after Yamato's return at the end of the year 2199.

Or course the story could be very different than the old Yamato 2 story. There might not be a full on Earth fleet, but a small core of ships built to defend the planet while Earth is rebuilt. The Comet Empire might come, or the plot could be reversed and have Yamato and later the Earth fleet come to the defense of Iscandar or Telezart. That would fit with the continuing war between the Gamilas and the Comet Empire, while also using the various Gamilas characters that were developed for the series.

And yes, that Arizona. It is from Yamato 3. The miniatures game, Star Blazers Fleet Battle System, presently makes miniatures of it and a few other Yamato 3 ships as well ad there usual like of Yamato, Yamato 2, and the Dark Nebula film ships. They also have a miniature of the Andromeda II, which that art from Don Gaiser is partly based on.

But we will see how the new fleet will look like in Yamato 2200 or 2201?

Ah yes, Don's (Xarno's) version of the Studio Nue Andromeda. Very nice piece.
Like I said to you on Deviantart, you did a fantastic job on the Andromeda, Tzoli.

They didn't use the original Yamato's hull. In 2199 they basically painted over the hull and put some dirt and debris as camouflage.

I much prefer the new scale. It makes a lot more sense when you account for everything.

Care to send me official link for this statement? Because then why not build entirely underground? The Kirishima while smaller could land underground via a surface hatch. Not sure if Yamato could enter or exit there but then you can a always build a larger landing door.

We see some Earth stations in Yamato 3 and Final Yamato.

As for evidence that the Yamato 2199 ship is not the original battleship, we have a translation of some of the promotional background material for the show itself.

Part One
http://ourstarblazers.com/vault/749/

Part Two
http://ourstarblazers.com/vault/751/

Basically they built under the old wreck, removed most of her as they went. They used the upper works to hide the construction, replacing those carefully to avoid Gamilas observation.

They built her there as it was a convenient structure near the surface that was already ship-like so the Gamilas would likely not notice. The surface soil allowing for a quick launch. The ship was also built there, as oppose to one of the underground shipyards, because they didn't know what the engines would do on take off, nor what would happen if a Gamilas attack found them and targeted the underground city/shipyard with one of those giant missiles (which could probably break through that much soil). So Yamato is built away from the underground city, just under the surface, under a battleship wreckage, so that it can be built and launched quickly away from the city itself.

Basically, they were afraid of this newfangled alien technology, and wanted to be sure the people were safe. Well safer than if they built it in the city itself.

(That last version of Andromeda has a clear "third bridge" style shield generator. I would imagine her anti-fighter and missile systems are like many modern ships...missile based. Though Yamato's main batteries have proven to be effective at range against missiles and fighter with their shells.

(Also the moderators would likely prefer the picture to be in a [images] tag so save space and bandwidth)

Of course the real reason why the new Yamato in Yamato 2199 is not the original ship rebuilt is because the fact is, Yamato isn't any sort of condition to be rebuilt. She's in two large pieces, one is upside down. Her superstructure is gone, and her turrets are all over the place.

http://www.modelwarships.com/reviews/books-plans/ship-craft/14-yamato/yamato-05.jpg

The Yamato 2199 Production Committee was being realistic while also wanting to keep certain iconic images, such as the ship as a wreck in the dried sea floor. That is iconic, and very much in the Yamato spirit of things. They had to keep it. And they did. They just had to find a way to explain it realistically.

The original run of Space Battleship Yamato series and films was from 1974 to 1983. The wreckage was found in 1985. They didn't know. They couldn't know.

That is a question I don't have an answer. I'm pretty sure the question has been asked on Matsumoto in the last three years, but I don't recall the answer if one was given. I would imagine mixed feelings. Happy that there is more Yamato, and sad that he isn't the one making it.

Ourstarblazers.com has contacts with people either living in Japan or that go on trips for events in Japan. They've got people to the various Leiji events, so if anyone in the English speaking world would know, or have a way to know, that would be the place.

Either the Earth groups had not yet figured how to make the weapon smaller, the concept had not been proven yet (built while Yamato is away in 2199), or this is a "treaty cruiser" with no wave motion gun.

As oppose to the potential "treaty battleships" that have hidden wave motion guns, or the dispersion wave motion gun is the work around the Iscandarian Treaty.

Not all ships need such destructive firepower! Not to mention it is quite energy consuming weapon thus needs a large wave motion generator, without the weapon the generator could be smaller so does the vessel, and reducing it's cost. I assume it's very costly to build such a weapons and generator together.

Also it is not an UNCF ship but Japan Orbit fleet of the United Nations so pre Yamato ship in my opinion :)
Note the type designation of M-22459 which is a similar designation to the Yukikaze.

Can somebody post screenshots of the Earth space stations from Yamato universe?

In the Episode 10 commentary for Yamato 3 there is an image of an unmanned Earth observatory station.
http://ourstarblazers.com/vault/90/

The Final Yamato look at the station is seconds long. They build multiple ring stations with long central axis.
https://youtu.be/Gz-eJGfb4W8?t=10m1s

Arizona and the other newer ships sent on exploration missions like Yamato's can be seen in Episode 12.
http://ourstarblazers.com/vault/92/

Arizona is longer than Andromeda in the older scaling. She uses more or less the same hull as a base. She had five heavy shock cannon turrets that are likely the same as Andromeda's. She is slightly lighter than Andromeda as she doesn't have the bulk of two wave motion guns. She has several casemated batteries forward similar to Andromeda. The weapons sheet for the miniature lists it as having 6 torpedoes tubes forward, 6 missile tubes forward, 8 missile tubes on each flank and 8 missile tubes in the stack. She does have more defensive guns that the canon Andromeda, though far less than Yamato.

Basically she was suppose to feature the best parts of Yamato and Andromeda and be a hero ship in an arc in Yamato 3, but that show was cut in half and Arizona got only three brief appearances.

Best bet on images is the one by CanisD

Arizona is the tenth ship down on the left side, just above the Final Yamato EDF battleship design.

For Mikasa, I have. I was thinking of using it if I ever to get around to making the Gamilas-Earth War campaign setting a reality. It won't do much, as it would be like an old style torpedo net. Only work at slow speeds, and won't mitigate beam weapons much.

So the usual 1970's, 1980's space station designs by various artist (something like what you seen in the old Superman or Sci-Fi movies)

Yeah I've noticed it is similar to Andromeda which could help me with the drawing as I don't have to draw and entire new ship, could use the old Andromeda for parts.

For the gamilas ship, not necessary Gatlantis turrets, but probably based on them, they seems to be capable of rapid fire excellent firing arcs, though at a lower firepower as a compromise

Ithekro
2015-08-12, 08:03
The Gamilas ships are similar to the later Galman style ships shich use Gatlantis style turrets as well as their own turret designs. I think the idea was that Dessler would use any tech idea he could find and incorporated it from learning his lessons from each of his defeats of the last few years. This leading to the Galman-Gamilas Empire having huge ships compared to the old style Gamilas ships, and some even larger than the Yamato 2199 Gamilas ships.

On the image I provided of older style Yamato ships, the bottom middle area is mostly Galman ships, with Dessler's newest flagship the large blue ship on the bottom. It is really big.

As the episode commentary mentions, Space Battleship Arizona was designed by Yutaka Izubuchi, who is presently the Supervising Director for Yamato 2199.

What are your guys opinion on the Galaxy Express and Harlock series? Were they inhabit thesame universe as Yamato just in the future (few hundred or thousand years) or a parallel universe with many similarities?

Ithekro
2015-08-14, 08:59
Both. All Harlock based materials follow an ecentric multiverse timeline that loops like a 3D donut. Yamato is there some how and always was. It has always been more a matter of how rather than when.

There was to be a unified universe under Matsumoto around the turn of the Century, but legal issues and all that. Even then, there are a half dozen or so Harlock related projects withYamato making a cameo appearance, as one of the ships of legend.

There was an effort to make a unified timeline of the Leijiverse with same success. It is convoluted but functional. I tend to want to keep elements of it for my own reasons. With Yamato 2199 it technically shouldn't be part of it at all, but whatever.

With the way the Earth military acted againt the Gamilas in the new version, my take is that the events of Interstella 5555 happened in this universe and that Earth had had contact with a blue skinned alien race for.a time before the gate they were using collapsed (or was just closed). But the blue people, before closing the gate, warned Earth about aggressive species, there cousins the Gamillas (who might have just come to "reintroduce" them back into the Empire). This warning being the basis for the Earth command to order the fleet to open fire without warning. (Those blue meanies cut us off from our blue pop culture sensation, they must be evil.)

Something like that.

TZoli
2015-08-14, 12:25
I see, I would not count Interstella 5555 as it was a movie (clip series) for the French Daft Punk band. Indeed Matsumoto created it but it's more of a musical with like 3-4 spaceships in it.

I'm asking because the Wave Motion Technology seem to reduced only to engines, as I did not see Wave Motion Cannon style weaponry in the Galaxy Express and Harlock series.
Neither the Arcadia nor the Death Shadow seems to have this kind of weaponry.
To say the truth I only watched a handful of Harlock episodes as the series did not aired in Hungary and damn hard to find the original japansese dubbed english subbed version on the net!

On the other hand...
The Karyu from Cosmo Warrior Zero have a Wave Motion Cannon style weapon the "Fire of St. Elmo"
Any thoughts about this?

Yamato 2520 too seems to lack such weaponry but the Great Yamato or Great Galaxy (Dai Ginga) have 3, two on the wings and one large on the nose.

Yamato 2520 has mixed technology weaponry. It could be that the mixed weaponry causes other advancements that make the now centuries old wave motion technology obsolete.

The Arcadia has what looks like two enhanced wave motion engines for long distance warping (similar to what Yamato was refitted with in "Be Forever, Yamato".) In some versions, Arcadia's main batteries can put out massive amounts of damage in a fashion of a wave motion gun (Harlock Saga). Just on a smaller scale that doesn't need the massive power buildup.

Arcadia was a ship built by Tochiro, so it wasn't strictly built at an Earth yard with access to the best in terms of wave motion gun technology. Some of the other military ships seem to have the opening in the front for such a weapon, but it would be restricted use, most of the time.

In Harlock: Endless Odyssey, the Earth's "police" forces have wave motion gun type weapons that they use to blow up a corrupted science ship...through Pluto.

Deathshadow doesn't have a wave motion gun, unless it if hidden, though the ship is styled somewhat like the Earth ships in Final Yamato. (when it isn't styled like the original version of the Arcadia). I was thinking the horns might have been some type of special weapon system, rather than the Arcadia's ramming knife.

The Karyu's double twin polarized wave motion guns seem to be the only thing on that ship that makes it decent in combat. The main guns are lacking in power, and they don't have the crew to make the fighter bays work (post-war). It seems like a tricky weapon to use, since the ships design seems flawed with its cooling systems not able to handle its own wave motion guns at full power. But the weapon system seems to be controllable by the ship's captain. He can maneuver the blast once fired to targets anywhere around the ship, which could be quite handy verse Yamato's single beam, or even the Andromeda's spread effect.

TZoli
2015-08-14, 15:04
I'm not sure the Arcadia or Death Shadow could be built in EDF (Does it still exist at that time?) shipyards, because the Earth was defeated or had to do a loser's side compromise in the war, or what I able to deduct from Cosmo Warrior Zero. The Mechanized men seems to be very potent adversary!

Yes in 2520 they use a different energy source, Monopole but it's quite rare though probably much more potent than Tachyon based technology.

Ithekro
2015-08-14, 15:27
The old Deathshadow was suppose to have been an Earth Solar Fleet battleship of some sort before the war ended and Harlock crashed it to prevent its use (for a time) by the enemy.

The newer ones (old style Arcadia "Deathshadow" and the later Arcadia) were built wherever and modified over the years/generations of use.

Depends on which timeline, time around the timeline it is for Harlock. None of his series seem to follow 100% into any other series. Some are 90% in line with a previous version, but still not in line. Others are almost entirely in a different timeline...then something happens that makes it seem like part of one of the other series. Matsumoto is fast and loose with continuity.

Yes that works! But all these "Star Blazers" version makes me both sad and sick. I don't consider that "cartoon" as part of the Leijiverse. Rewritten story, different character names and such...
It's like renaming the USS Enterprise in Star Trek to USS Bismarck or anything non USN related and Picard or Kirk to say.... Captain Bald and Captain Gigolo...

Ithekro
2015-08-15, 16:07
Names mostly. The story is not all that changed really.

Especially when it comes to the present day and Yamato 2199. A few plot elements in the remade story reflect more the translated Star Blazers version of events rather than the original events. Though usually these changes are for when the character reasoning in the English version makes more sense in modern context to the 1974 Japanese writer's reasoning for the characters. Particularly when it comes to the two Kodai's.

Mamoru's reasoning for staying behind in Star Blazers, the live action Yamato film, and Yamato 2199 make logical military sense, where the original version was very old style bushido code or something that calls for death before dishonor, and that one cannot leave the battlefield alive in defeat.

Sasumu's reasoning for attacking Balan in Star Blazers was actually tactically sound. Take out the enemy bases along your route to Iscandar, because you will have to fight them again on the way home if you don't. His reasoning in the original version was to avenge the native animals the Gamilas had butchered. Animals that Dommel specifically had butchered because Yamato would stop at Balan to avenge them. Meaning they had showed a pattern of doing this behavior enough to allow Dommel to set this up as a trap. In Yamato 2199 they in turn are not given a choice when it comes to Balun. They can't let 10,000 enemy ships be able to just follow them through the gate to Iscandar, so the gate system core needs to be shut down and they need to do it quickly and with the ability to escape. Queue the wave motion gun.

There are probably other things as well (like the whole robot tanks business the Americans tacked on due to violence issues on TV at the time) that made it to Yamato 2199 for whatever reason. Those are just the ones I can think of at the moment.

It is a good looking battlecruiser. A nice update to the older designs. Though when we first saw it we thought it was an older design, it turned out it was a newer design, bridging what would be the gap between old Gamilas tech and Yamato III era's Galman tech.

I also like that the underside turret actually has a good field of fire while the other designs have the wing in the way.

I do wonder why that was decided? Both this ship and the improved battleship have two triple long barreled turrets on the upper deck while the remaining batteries are of the older barrel-less style.

They are even listed differently as positron beams and positron cannons. While Yamato has positron impact "shock" cannons. This is all antimatter beam weaponry (positrons are the antimatter equivalent of electrons).

Dommel's ship has quad barrel-less batteries (49 cm and triple 33 cm) while Dessler's battleship has triple barreled main cannons (48 cm and 33 cm) as well as some barrel-less batteries (33 cm).

I recently bought the big Gamilas book that came out a year or so ago. While it is mostly pictures of ships and characters with interviews and the likes I found one very helpful image on the Gamilas battlecarrier. There is a cross-section image that shows the ship's hanger decks. Multiple decks as well as where the rotating gun decks, landing gear, and turrets rest under the hull. The ship has the enclosed hanger space along the main deck, then two hanger below deck. A longer one below the upper one that gives a little extra space below the gun decks. I was messing around with another set of images in an effort to scale the carrier with the DW262 fighters seen operating from those carriers in Ark of the Stars. I wanted to get a guess at to how many the ships could carry. packing them in like American and Japanese style carriers of World War II give an interesting result. Even keeping the elevators clear, not using the upper most armored hanger space, and leaving room on the lowest deck for support craft, I get a possible 36 fighters per hanger...that's 72 fighters per carrier. Mind you the DW262 is smaller than the rest of the Gamilas fighters and bombers, but it fits nicely on the ship.

Assuming I'm scaling the ship and fighter correctly.

The battlecarrier is suppose to be 390 meters long while the DW262 is 15.58 meters long.

The barrelled ones probably give more firepower and/or accuracy and range (like a real world longer barrel of a gun is more accurate and the shell could fly further due to more stable flying path) or it could provide more firepower because more guns can be mounted of less energy consumption.

The barrelled ones probably give more firepower and/or accuracy and range (like a real world longer barrel of a gun is more accurate and the shell could fly further due to more stable flying path) or it could provide more firepower because more guns can be mounted of less energy consumption.
I concur with better firepower and range. However I disagree with less energy consumption.

Look at the Meltoria vs the Destroia. The Destroia mounts a full set of 4 330mm triple mount beam turrets. However the Meltoria, which shares the same design aesthetics as the Haizerad, which is explicitly a newer design, mounts 2 330mm triple mount cannon turrets and 2 280mm triple mount be turrets. In exchange for the cannons the remaining turrets have gone down in caliber.

Since the Meltoria is only 13m longer than the Destroia, and is actually slimmer, you can infer they have roughly the same power output and that the cannons consume more energy than similar caliber beams. If you look at the Haizerad it has the same armament as the Gaiderol except for the two dorsal turrets which have been upgraded from beams to cannons. The Haizerad is a full 43m longer than the Gaiderol, with the engine block noticeably lengthened. Thus you can infer they had to upgrade the engine to power the cannons as well.

Then look at the Gelvades, which boasts the highest turret count out of all the Gamilon ships as well as a good number of cannons. However the caliber of the guns are noticeably smaller than other ships of the same size; the largest guns are 280mm and it has a total of 12 guns that are 133mm in size. In order to power all those guns they went with quantity over quality.

More later.

A slightly updated version of before showing the other figher types (roughly in scale) on the Battlecarrier's deck. As shown the torpedo bomber just will not fit well on this type of carrier, as it could not fit thought the main armored hanger doors, and probably not even fit on the largest of the elevators.

So 60 fighter or dive bombers is not out of the picture for this carrier.

Also a scan of the retracting systems and hanger decks from the Gamilas book for reference.

I can probably find versions for that that are clear on the multi-deck carrier instruction sheets, the scans from the Gamilas book will be too large.

I wonder why did not the EDF ships shoot down the asteroid bombs which were headed towards Earth? I'm sure the torpedoes, missiles and shock cannons could easily destroy them before entering Earth's atmosphere! Maybe they did try it and then the Pluto base launched the dreaded kilometer large Planet Bombs towards Earth which wield way more destructive potential?

I assume they use to try to shoot the planet bombs down. They might be too fast, or whatever radiation the reflex gun puts on it makes it somewhat resistant to Earth weaponry. I would think this could be a use for the bow mounted shock cannons.

As for the rest, I made an image for that a while back:

The only two departments were we don't see any females is Combat Division and Engineering. Melda's swimsuit gives us a clue as to what a female Combat Division uniform would look like (black lines on red). But no clue on Engineering since that would look a lot like the Support Services Division uniforms, unless they were white on orange instead of black on orange.

While I didn't silhouette them this time, I did get the correct planes onto the battlecarrier's deck. The torpedo bomber looks like it might still be too big for this carrier. The wings would scrap the sides of the uprights for the armored doors, and the plane is too long for the largest elevator the ship has. At least when armed. She might fit, but it is really tight.

The other fighters seem to fit in fine.

Those I think were mentioned as being a Zultz design that was kept by the Gamilas. I may be remembering that wrong. They are fairly large, though they seem to only operate the two wide winged craft (229 and the recon plane). It has the main beam weapon on the bottom (it seems powerful, but that is a guess) and a turret on top. Possibly missiles but if it has them they are not listed.

The guess is between 20 and 48 fighters in one or two stacked circular hangers that can deploy to any of the four doors on the underside.

Least that is what I figure. Someone who can read Japanese might be of more use if they have materials on that ship.

Indeed self defence weaponry seems non existent, maybe some missile launchers. The black things looks like large radar domes, so this vessel is more like a support or tactical carrier then a front line attack vessel. The ventral beam though ideal for bombardment of planetary surface.

According to the Japanese Wikipedia:

Total length 383.8m
Full width 291.3m
Height 50.0m

Armament:
1x triple Large caliber laser cannon turret
3x twin missile turrets
3x twin revolver-type anti-aircraft laser turrets

Carrier-based aircraft:
Fighter attack aircraft DWG-229 Meranka
Reconnaissance aircraft FG-156 Sumaruhi

It should be noted there's a difference between the regular Pormelia and the Imperial Guard version. The IG has AA guns in its turret whereas the regular version has missile tubes instead. The beam also seems more powerful in the IG version, though it may just be dialable in power.

Myself and one other author like to think the Pormelia's a Zaltzi design.

The carriers have the least amount of information about them online. Unfortunate for us, but useful for the authors since if gives them room to make stuff up.

My art program is Paint so my ability to rotate stuff is limited to 90 degree incraments so I can't make a really fancy deck part on the carrier plans, or set up a rotary hanger system for the Pormelia.

I think the idea it was Zaltzi was due to their heavy percence in the Gamilas navy. That and the carrier is an odd design compared to the other Gamilas ships. In fact the two main carriers are odd, as they don't have the "eyes" of the Gamilas ships. The battlecarrier, which is clearly newer, does have "eyes" like the majority of the fleet ships. I even spent a while trying to see if they hid some "eyes" in the multi-deck carriers to make them more clearly Gamilas in design.

skaianDestiny
2015-08-28, 23:20
I think since the Guipellon shouldn't be on the front lines anyway, it doesn't need to have the "eyes" to convey intent. The Gelvades is a battlecarrier, so it does "need" to have the eyes.

I think the "eyes" you are referring to are forward facing main engines used to quickly decelerate or turn the ship.

Class 1 and class 2? I do not know what you think about, but IJN used similar classification for main line and secondary or support line ships in WW2

Ithekro
2015-08-29, 02:41
Do you mean front line ships verse imperial guard units, or First Class Citizen and Second Class Citizen operated ships?

We see more Zaltzi troops operating in the Milky Way, but Schultz family seems to be on Gamilas, as we see that Zaltzi units do operate in the heart of the Empire. Some First Class commands treat them as soldiers, some treat them as equals (more or less), while others just look down on them and question even having them around. We don't see any other races operating warships for Gamilas. Doesn't mean there aren't any, just that we haven't see any.

The Imperial Guard is supposedly a force that uses a lot of clones. They operate their own forces, though I can't say if their units are any better than the Naval units, or if they have better or worse equipment. I would guess they have some better stuff, due to them guarding Dessler. But their better stuff might be limited to that function while they are more or less a glorified coast guard everywhere else.

The carriers that Dommel got to fight off Yamato were left overs and what the Imperial Guard could spare. (It still strikes me as tactically odd to not send any cruisers or destroyers with that fleet) One flagship battleship (well that was Dommel's command to begin with), a prototype battlecarrier, an old carrier (blue) that was probably part of the Imperial Guard units. A purple carrier (normal style) which I guess was part of the Ministry of Propaganda or whatever. Then a seemingly newer carrier (in naval green colors) with a fancy deck design for unknown reasons. And an experimental submarine attached under Dessler's direct orders for a retrieval mission...before Dommel was to destroy Yamato.

We are still to work out what the colors on Gamilas ships is suppose to mean. We more or less know that green is the standard front line fleet color, as it is on most of the ships we see. Blue is Imperial Guard, clearly. Red seems to indicated prototype or lead ships of a class, though Darold is not the class ship, its description seems to fit the one they work with as a prototype. We see two purple ships. They might be a specific department, though it is unclear if that department has a bunch of ships, or just a few for transport purposes.

Then there are the camouflaged ships and various other flagships. The standard battleships seem to have a standard green with kind of a cream underside coat. But Goer's Balun fleet is also in camo, with his flagship sporting extra white stripes. The Eight Fleet also has a camo battlecrarier (red and black) with white stripes. Then there is Dommel's flagship that is more or less grey-white. The three fleet battleships we see are Red, Blue, and Grey-white. We don't know if there are any more of this class of ship in the Gamilas Empire.

Dessler's new flagship would be assumed to be a one of a kind, though this could prove to be false (who knows how long that cruiser was sitting inside his tower waiting as an escape ship). The flagship has to be new as it has a Dessler Cannon and was named after the previous flagship was destroyed short of the jump to Balun only a month or two before Yamato arrives at Gamilas.

With the maps provided in the show, as functionally limited as they were, can we guess how large the Gamilas Empire is? The loss of the Balun gate seems to have crippled them for a bit in the interior of the Empire, as their fleet elements were either at Balun or expanding the bounds of the Empire. On a Guess, I would say that part of the Empire is in the Milky Way. How much is an unknown, but it would make it interesting later if there is a sizable Empire still present, but with less direct contact with Gamilas out in the Magellanic Clouds. They aren't cut off, warping can still get there without the Gates, it just takes many months rather than days or weeks. Also this depends on just how damaged the rest of the network is with Balun down.

EDIT:

The 'Eyes' seem to be more likened to a warning system by the Gamilas fleet ships. Dark when the ship is not powered. Green is that it is not ready for battle. Yellow means they are ready for combat. It is assumed it is a particle collection system that is used as an intimidator on the ships, but also a sign of intent for Gamilas warships. Also a reason for the Gamilas to be upset at the earthers for firing first, when the Gamilas ships were "clearly" not powered up for combat. Green normal operating power setting rather than combat ready yellow setting.

In the much older variation, it was assumed the "eyes" were heavy weapons systems, as some of the battle scenes would have weapons fire from the smaller Gamilas ships in early episodes of Space Battleship Yamato. They more or less stopped doing this in later episodes.

This can be best seen in the Battle against' Schultz's fleet after the destruction of Pluto Base in the old series. The Gamilas ships fire from there in the asteroid field against Yamato's ring defense system.

I thought the "eyes" were bussard-ram-scoops in the new series.

Originally they were beam weapons, but in 2199 they seem to be hydrogen/particle collectors, which would make sense for them to change color as the ship collects more particles to feed the engines/reactors of the ship to power weapons, shields, etc.

Just a thought.

skaianDestiny

I much prefer the idea that they're entirely frivolous and are rooted in the Gamilon sense of honor. Green for non-hostile, yellow-orange for hostile. If they are particle intakes for power, why does EX-178 in episode 10 not have its eyes orange when it's towing the Yamato? You'd think that since they have a limited time frame to get out and that they're towing a much larger ship they'd be trying to feed as much power as they can into the engines.

http://i.imgur.com/jZ0qUcJ.png
http://i.imgur.com/hC9CoE0.png

When EX-178 first spots the Yamato, its eyes turn orange, so they can't just be for power.

http://i.imgur.com/mnRAINf.png

---

Anyway, speaking of EX-178, do you think it only holds one fighter plane the same way WW2 cruisers held a single (in most cases) catapult fighter? I doubt they have a revolving hanger system, considering it's an extremely complicated bit of machinery for a mass-produced ship.

---

For clarification on my "Class 1", "Class 2" comment, if you look at the description for the Meltoria-class, it says the ships are the "largest of the Class-2 ships". The names of the Zoelguut and the Deusura II also include the fact that they're "Class-1 Combatant Ships". So here are my thoughts:

We've only seen the smaller Gamilas vessels, in other words the Meltoria, Destroia, Kelkapia, and Kriptera classes, referred to by names such as EX-178 and EX-1604. Numbers only, which fits with the fact that they're mass-produced.

Then you get to the battleships and other capital ships. The Gaiderol is the smallest capital ship in the Gamilas line up, and we have names for two ships, Le Chevalier and Goergamesh. The 2 named Haizerads are Shangri-La and Kilmenaim. The 3 Gelvades are named Darold, Mirangel, and Nirvales, and the Guipellons are Lambea, Schderg, and Balgrey. The Zoelguuts are named the Zergut, Domelaze, and Deusura, and then we obviously have the Deusura II. You get my point.

It seems the Gamilas divide their ship classes between cruisers and below and capital ships, which are Class-2 and Class-1 respectively. Class-2 vessels get a number to denote them as if they tried to name them all they'd quickly run out of names. Class-1 vessels, as they're much rarer, get a name, which for some seem to be related to the name of the commander if they're a general.

Well the EX-178 trapped in the same space as Yamato, and both seem to lose power in the area, hence the Gamilan ship was off line until noticing the Yamato.
The colour change could be because of the different properties of the space they are in. (Greenish then reddish)
Also they probably use a machine similar to the wave motion engine but on a different concept, hence they have a prototype of wave motion type cannon only by now.

As for naming that is only cultural. The USN and RN produced many hundred destroyers, frigates, corvettes and submarines during both world wars and after, and they all got names, while the IJN And SRN (Soviet Red Navy) only named their vessels from frigate size and up.

They do this at Pluto. On the floating continent (you don't see the eyes cange color, but you hear the sound effect as the shot pans up to show the yellow eyed destroyers, when the previous scene they had green eyes). Dommel's flagship powers up after Yamato arrives in the quasar battle. At Balun. Yeah, while the beam turrets are all blocked by the front hull, the Deusura II can bring to bear 8x3 330mm cannons and 4x3 480mm cannons forwards. If it wasn't in the gate corridor dimension, the Yamato would have been pretty badly hurt. Not to mention all the torpedo tubes it has.

Speaking of which, it's a shame we don't see the Gamilons utilizing their torpedo tubes a lot more. They seem to be in love with those things, as every ship except the carriers mounts at least 2. Even the lander! While their gun firepower is actually less than the heavy cruiser and battlecruiser, the Gaiderol and Haizerad have 33 torpedo tubes, and the Zoelguut mounts a respectable amount too. The potential for missile spam is pretty big.

Speaking of missile spam, the Gamilons don't seem to be using AA that much. While the torpedoes and missiles can double for interception, the cruisers don't have much in the way of AA. The aft double-mount rapid-fire cannon on the Kripitera could also work as an AA gun, but it lacks volume of fire compared to a smaller gun.

The mainline battleships, Gelvades, and Deusura II core ship all mount AA guns in varying amounts of single and quad-mount turrets, but we haven't seen them in action at all. We did see the Balgrey use her AA guns, but it was kind of sad really, only managing to take out a single fighter, and not even managing to shoot down the two missiles the fighter launcher (RIP Kobashi).

On the extreme other end, the Gatlanteans seem to make use of a lot of AA, and their main turrets can double as AA too.

Ithekro

I tend to think the newer Gamilas ship designs use lots of missile based anti-missile systems, rather than beam or other weaponry based interceptor systems. The Gamilas ships have not been witnessed doing so, but the cruisers and destroyers (as well at the battlecarrier) have what look like smaller missile launchers behind their bridges. The Comet Empire ships clearly have and use lots of small beam pulse weaponry to take down missiles and have been seen doing so.

The Kripitera-class missile destroyers have been seen using some missile tubes aft of the bridge, but we've not seen what they are being fired at. I think these are a set of interception missiles, as we don't see them use these against Yamato. They do use them in fleet combat with the Comet Empire fleet in Episode 11, so maybe that was to stop Cometine missiles. The Comet cruisers and carrier are listed as having a small number of missile tubes in addition to their quantum torpedo launchers. The destroyers do not have missiles anymore, just the quantum torpedoes. It is odd that we don't see the Comet ships use their missiles, and only the destroyers and Medaruusa type ever fire the quantum torpedoes.

I am curious how they will redesign the old Comet battleship and antimatter missile cruisers (which I figure will be a redesign on their cruiser from the recent show).

I do hope we see more of these ships. What episode did you get these from?

Episode 16 (Around 5:30) when Melda watches how the "terrorists" including Domel's wife got boarded on these on Gamilas.

They use them for example when fighting the Gatlantis fleet in which Domel acted as commander. So the doctrine probably to use them against larger forces or fleets and spare if the enemy is vastly inferior like the early EDF ships or single ship. Though this could be because of the captains arrogance that they could destroy the enemy using only the beam weaponry. One other thing that the missiles and torpedoes are projectile based weaponry and hence need to be reloaded and need larger amount of inner space to carry the necessary ammunition, using them for every battle means they had to resupply often.

As for the lack or limited AA capacity of the Gamilas ships that they either rarely face missile or carrier craft oriented enemy or they trust their fighters and interceptors to deal with the threat. On the other side Gatlantis probably faced such enemy and had to adapt using the rapid fire dome turrets.

For Gatlantis ships, some of them have a spherical protrusion usually painted in white near their nose. I always thought these are giant one use missiles with large destructive power!

For the Gamilas in the Sol System, either they figured they wouldn't be resupplied all that much, so they didn't, or perhaps had already used most of their missile supplies in the eight years of fighting the Terrons. They still have some as we see at least two destroyers fire a salvo of four missles in two different engagements in the Sol System.

While we don't see the Earth fleet use their missiles much, Kirishima lets loose a few times with different missile batteries at Pluto, and Yukikaze of course lets loose as well. A pity we didn't get to see the bow cannons used on any of the Earth ships, even though they all have some form of bow weaponry. The battleships and cruiser had bow mounted shock cannons, while the destroyers have additional beam cannons mounted on the bow in front of the torpedo tubes.

The Gamilas fleet is not seen using any defensive anti-missile weapons against Yamato. This might be normal considering she is just one ship, even though she can spam a lot of missiles and torpedoes in an engagement. Yamato, in response, uses her AA batteries against Gamilas missiles and bombers (and anything else that gets too close to them), but they did not use them at all against the Cometine quantum torpedoes, just letting those hit the ship or the shields.

As for the Cometine noses. So far only the Antimatter Missile Cruiser (top ship on our list on images) have giant missiles for their bows that are each basically ship killers, or in massive numbers, planet killers.

Yamato's shielding does give a great advantage for a limited period of time. She is not invincible as the shields can be overwhelmed while still functioning. The Gamilas reflex gun was powerful enough to break though the shields and cause damage each time it hit Yamato, but the shields were still there each time and deflected part of the blast. Don't know if that would stop an antimatter missile, but if it can stop the Magnaflame Gun, if can probably stop anything....once. Even the Dessler Cannon.

I don't agree. For the purpose of resupply they built the Pluto base and later the Saturn floating continent station. But we know Earth region Gamilas ships were mostly commanded by second class, especially Zaltzian sailors, and this could be the cause the rare usage of missiles. They are probably told to conserve supply hence rarely using missiles. Though they did used that giant Missile to try to destroy the Yamato but that is because they had to do it fast and the asteroid bombs are rather slow.

We also don't know how extensive the Gamilas control of the Milky Way is at this time. We know they have other based within the Galaxy as they dropped Melda off in a system that had one. That and the Earth forces estimations that the Gamilas were local might be from observation of enemy movements and communications. They were flat wrong, as they found out when they ran into Dommel and later at Balun.

It is possible that they have other, more important conflicts going on in the Milky Way and Earth was, aside from an annoying world that fired first, perhaps a supply point for other units deeper within the Galaxy.

Are there thoughts about the Yamato 2205 ideas presented in the video on the previous page?

If the show actually went with that angle, I would wonder if they captured it, if they already had one, just Zordar's is old and faulty. The "treasure planet" run was actually a parts run to get certain systems working. Perhaps some of those systems could also be covered by Iscandarian technology (instead of Gamilas technology), thus why Gatlantis has been trying to break through the Gamilas frontier for years.

Still nice to see Andromeda in motion, and a return to Gamilas and Terron joint operations. Though Dessler is still the wild card regardless of how they do the story.

The Comet Empire itself travels between galaxies via some form of faster than light travel. We generally see it as a giant white comet effect that surrounds Gatlantis. What if, in the new version, that is something like the Ark built around Gatlantis. The grey cloudly space Yamato was in could oddly be similar to the field see around Gatlantis in the old days.

If Gatlantis had taken a ship like the Ark centuries ago, and used it in their inter-galactic raids as "barbarians" they will eventually wear it out. Perhaps Zordar knows at least somewhat what he was looking for with the Aquarian Ark, but old dogma makes it into a "treasure planet". What he wants is the technology there to fix his aging ship and maybe even update it.

Iscandar seems to have an understanding about Aquarian technology. At least it seems like that from Yamato finds out about the Warp Gates (also Aquarian tech) from an Iscandarian device.

Gatlantis was heading into Gamilas territory for years as suggested by Dommel. Gamilas was able to hold them back until recently after losing several thousand ships and losing at least part of he Gate network to Yamato. If Zordar knows of the connections between Iscandar and Aquarius, he might figure that is another source for the technology he desires to keep his empire mobile. Thus trying to penetrate Gamilas territory to get to Iscandar. This might also tie into Gatlantis seeking Earth and Yamato later, as they have Iscandarian technology. Notice the Gatlantian warp out effect is similar to the Gate warp out effect.

They are already stealing Gamilas technology via science slaves and the like. As "barbarians" it has been suggested that the Gatlantians do not fully understand the technology they poses, just use it until it breaks worse then they can fix.

Earth might be in a similar quandary if they cannot replicate the Wave Motion Cores provided by Iscandar. They can clearly build and operate Wave Motion technology. There understanding of it is crude, but they are figuring it out. It is just a matter on if they can duplicate the Cores so they can build more than two ships without needing to have trade routes from either Iscandar or Gamilas for Wave Motion Cores.

TZoli
2015-08-31, 05:34
Hmm, interesting thoughts. We will see when the time comes!

I think Earth will be able to duplicate the cores, as they were able to figure out how to create a massively destructive weapon from the Wave Motion Engine which surely Iscandar not shared but known about (When she tell their history as space faring conquering race)

I like the Gamilas redesigns as they have a bunch of details, some of which can still be expanded upon.

The meltoria is the one I like the best of this set. Probably because its weapon arcs are better for the most part compared to the older designs. Even if the underside turret can no longer effectively fire aft, it has a much clearer broadside arc. Also the auxilary engines and wings (along with the barreled turrets) give it a mild resemblance to the Arcadia. It did spark speculation of if they would attempt to pull a Harlock using one of these ships being captured by the elder Kodai.

Instead Burger might be up for that role, after a fashion.

I would guess an additional radar array of some kind that can cover the other side of the ship due to the one on the bridge is blocked because it is justified to the starboard side of the ship.

Or some sort of space weather vane to let the pilots know if they have a cross tachyon wind or whatnot on take off and landing.

Or even just a landing aid for the pilots.

The bomber is about as large as a small ship. If it was indeed a military craft rather than converted civilian craft, I would gues it carried large missiles or clusters of missiles.

It might be to launch asteroid mining tools.

Also thank you for putting up that as well as the huge transport. Saves me from having to scan my book any more.

EDIT:

I was thinking about the extent of the Gamilas Empire. We know they were in a heavy expansion mode in 2199. To the point were the older Talon thinks they might be over expanding. We know they are fighting off advanced by the Comet Empire in the Lesser Magellanic Cloud and having a long running, but up until then a relatively minor problem with Earth in the Milky Way. But who else are they fighting? The Gamilas Empire must have a huge amount of space if they can warrant 10,000 plus ships at a Naval Review. One wouldn't think that would strip the Empire bare, but that along with the lose of the Balun Gate might cut off the interior of the Empire from the outer reaches were the fleets are located.

So if we take into account all the other military species we've encountered in all versions of Space Battleship Yamato, how many of them are fighting Gamilas in Yamato 2199's version or have already been conquered and are part of the Empire? The Comet Empire is clearly fighting the Gamilas and is considered a clear and present danger that warrants the deployment of Dommel and his Sixth Corp. The Dark Nebula Empire could be one of those being engaged by the Gamilas in a nearby Galaxy. The Bolar Federation certainly are a candidate for an enemy state within the Milky Way. Given the Yamato III backstory, this would make sense if the Gamilas were already at war with the Bolar by 2199. The Dengil Empire seems small but has big ships and a huge mobile city/fortress/temple thing. They might be engaged with Gamilas in the Milky Way or they are busy with someone else. The SUS countries could be engaged with the Gamilas, Dengil, Bolar, or even be part of either the Gamilas or Bolar Federation prior to the events of Yamato Resurrection. Warp travel by jumping from point to point across vast distances of space along with the Warp Gates leave it possible to simply miss entire civilizations. Even large ones.

So, who are the Gamilas fighting? The Comet Empire and Earth are the two known enemies. The Bolar Federation is a suspected enemy. The rest are unknown. Though fighting the Dengil would be an interesting prospect given the Dengil's might makes right ideals, and long lineage. The Dark Nebula Empire commanders said they were fighter wars elsewhere, when they parked over Gamilas and Iscandar for radioactives to fuel their ships. It could be they had been at war with Gamilas, and decided to plunder their homeworld after its death at the hands of Yamato, or it could just be a coincidence since Dessler didn't recognize them. The SUS members would seem like the type that either banded together to fight Gamilas (or the Bolar or Comet Empire) or banded together after the fall of an empire were they were servant races. Or is could be someone entirely new.

Thoughts?

Well the many enemies Yamato faced looks good candidates for Gamilas enemies, but remember Desslar wants to unite the galaxy so peace reign everywhere, a bit different approach what Starsha and the Iscandarians want. Something like a communist utopia the soviets wanted everywhere (Or communist/socialist governments).

Also note that probably some fleets and ships are required to pacify, incorporate and defend the planets both already conquered or newly discovered.

Also as a sort of connection.
Remember when Yamato found the 2nd Wave Motion Core on the insectoid civilization's planet Beemela? I wonder what happened to them 400 years ago?
Seems like they were not civilized enough to use interstellar travel (wall drawings and scriptures) and some civil war killed the population? Or maybe an Iscandarian disease which was brought accidentally by the shuttle killed the population?

Was the Warp Gate in the Beemela system? I forget now if it was there, or in another system after they found the second Warp Core.

If it was in the Beemela system, I would guess the Gamilas had something to do with it, as the Warp Gate has a few Gamilas fighters on its support station. Though how long have those fighters been there and was the gate abandoned? The fighter type is like those used by Melda as well and the primary fighter used by the Eighth Fleet in "Ark of the Stars". They not state which system it is in, it's more likely in deep space but close to Beemela. Beemela was episode 16, the gateway was in episode 17.
I doubt Gamilas killed the Beemelans, it is a lushful green planet ideal for colonisation and military base. Also Desslar was sitting on the throne more then 100 years ago, and I assume the Gamilas empire started to expand like 150-200 years ago which means the Beemelans was long gone before it.

Ithekro

Dessler looks a little different in the scenes on Iscandar with Starsha. These would have been before taking over as leader of the Empire. Which would be I guess 103 Gamilas years before the Earth year 2199.

If one assumes Gamilas age like humans and Dessler was something like 20 when he visited Starsha, that would put a Gamilas year as being something like 5 or 6 Earth weeks, which would means several years passed while Yamato was on its way to Iscandar.

I'm not quite whiling to accept that over the idea that Gamilas have long lifespans. I guess we'll see if at some point Sasha grows up quickly, but Dessler never really ages.

That would however mean that the older Gamilas soldiers are really old. Like hundreds of years old. Retirement age troops at the Rainbow Cluster battle might be 600 to 700 years old and fought back in the Early days of the Empire, or even before it was an empire.

Hm, I'm assuming the Gatlantean space subs will be dimensional submarines this time around instead of glorified stealth ships.

Does this mean we'll get some sweet sub-on-sub action with Flakken?

Ithekro

That would be amusing. Though having the Cometine's using shealth ships like normal would also be interesting. Like they had some of the information, but not enough to make a full on dimensional submarine (at first). Would give Yamato's depth charges something to do besides blowing up fighters.

Of course the next time Yamato or say Andromeda runs into a dimensional submarines, someone will have come up with a counter measure. They already have a subspace sonar array, and deployable sonars. They just need an inter-dimensional weapon that can return the favor on the Gamilas (or Cometine) torpedoes.

Something like the 23rd century versions of Depth Charges, Hedgehog, Squid, ASROC / VL-ASROC or the Soviet RBU series?

Ithekro
2015-09-07, 01:54
I think Yamato III called them Wave Motion Depth Charges. Or sometimes Wave Motion Missiles from the Dark Nebula films (same weapon). They were small red VL-bombs that launched from a set of tubes on the aft deck between the catapults. (Something like 24 to 36 VL tubes) These were able to be "dropped" into subspace where the Galman-Gamilas subs were hiding.

In Yamato 2 she had basically mines she dropped that the subs ran into to reveal there position. In the film version, Andromeda has more or less a flare system that backlit the subs making them visible to shoot.

In Ark of the Stars, Yamato fires a bunch of I suppose depth charges at a squadron on Cometine fighters. They look like a mix between a ASROC and a Hedgehog. A pair of nice contained unit box like a ASROC, but flying in an arc like if launched bomb (even though there would be no gravity to do that...it is a flavor thing).

With more or less a year until the the next series starting (we think) what do you think the tech on the standard Comet Empire battleship be this time around. Altered weaponry? Quantum torpedoes? A special weapon like in Yamato 2? Shields?

Probably the same as the Medalusa-class heavy battleship and the Lascaux and Kukulkan.

I have doubts they'll keep the "tower of guns" they had in the original with how they're doing the designs this time around.

Ithekro
2015-09-08, 00:57
I'd imagine they'd replace the tower of guns with either just superstructure, bridges, or quantum torpedo launchers. They'll probably keep the twin cannons that they use to wreck one of the Earth fleets in Yamato 2. I don't know if they'll be roughly equal to a wave motion gun in terms of outright ship killing ability, but they will likely shred Earth ships with them.

There are also two other odd features of the ships. The wing or rudder looking structure on the sides of the bow, and the four structures on the underside of the ship. If they want to keep the fleet aesthetic going, they need to add those orange bits that are similar to the Gamilas eyes, onto the battleship. That could be a use for the forward wings, if they aren't integrated elsewhere. But also it would stand to reason that Zordar would want to have some similar advantages to the likes of Yamato the next time he goes up against an Earth ship. Could the four lower structures become shield generators like the old third bridge on Yamato? They might not individually be as good as Yamato's, but together it might make the fight more even (or require the use of more powerful weapons or tactics in a fight between two fleets that have shielding).

I wouldn't be opposed to more ships styled after the Kukulkan and Lascaux, but I'm confident the mecha designers can "standardize" the Comet Empire battleship to fit in with the aesthetic of the Gatlantean ships. Look at the design of the original Medaluza (and the Playstation version) compared to 2199's version.

I think the Medaluza (or Megaruda) is more like an experimental or testbed ship hence the use of the Magna-Flame Cannon and the elevated quintuple barrelled turret.

Ithekro
2015-09-08, 14:02
The Megaruda shares design elements with the older "Bringer of Victory" design from the late 1970s. It could be the Megarude is an evolution on that design, or the "Bringer of Victory" will be the newer, but cheaper, alternative to the larger battleship and its giant turret plus magnaflame gun.

The "Bringer of Victory" was the standard battleship to the Medaruusa's flagship, or the carrier flagships depending on fleet. The only force that did not operate these battleships was the fleet assigned to Dessler that operated only Antimatter Missile Cruisers (I've sort of come up with a makeshift conversion of the Lascaux into that with additional missile batteries, the removal of some gun batteries and replacing the two forward part of the hull with two more obvious missiles).

My thought is that the designers will attempt to stylize the old "Bringer of Victory" to match the Megaruda while adjusting the features to make it capable of engaging an Earth battleship. This would means some sort of special weapon that can pierce or negate the wave motion shielding and possibly some sort of shielding themselves. The Magnaflame gun could do a lot of damage, but it did not pierce the wave motion shielding in one go. Perhaps, using the effect they did in Yamato 2, to use the energy to somehow twist the ship to cause it to go beyond its structural limits and simply break apart from the stresses, even while within the wave motion shielding.

I would also look into giving he four structures on the bottom a purpose. I think in the original those are the auxiliary impulse engines, but that doesn't seem to be needed or visually used. Instead have them be a weaker version of Yamato's wave motion shield generator, just with four overlapping fields. Sanada would probably be able to make a counter for that and Yamato's gunners can be very precise.

TZoli
2015-09-08, 17:00
I disagree, when the Megaruda attacked the Yamato with it's Magna-Flame Gun, it did not hit directly the Yamato and even that near-miss damaged the shield to 40-42%!!! So a full hit if with 100% shields would surely heavily damage or even cripple the Yamato herself!

The Andromeda (which will surely have stronger shields and more refined technology) could probably survive one hit but that would deplete her shields. And while the Wave Motion Cannons surely stronger, it have a much slower firing rate. The Megaruda able to eliminate a smaller Gamilas Fleet in minutes!

As for the shields on alien ships we yet to see that happen! I assume gamillas would develop quickly one seeing how it defended the Yamato multiple times, but I think the loss of Baleras II would hinder the development. As for Gatlantis, capturing such a ship, spying or stealing is not out of the question. But in my opinion in the new series EDF will have shields and maybe some Gamilas ships while Gatlantis none, or only at the end, but who knows?

We can actually calculate the power of the Flame Strike Cannon. In the movie, the little data screen of the planetoid gives its size and other info. We're also shown the size of the melted crust where the Flame Strike Cannon hit the planetoid. I don't have experience with this, but you can calculate the yield of the FSC with this information.

I have figured out that the FSC is orders of magnitude weaker than the WMG. The planetoid is a fraction of the size of the Moon, and the WMG could probably destroy the Moon in a single shot considering it annihilates a continent stated to be the size of Australia. Still, it's a devastating weapon on the fleet scale.

Ithekro

Gaming wise the Magnaflame gun is more powerful than Yamato's original wave motion gun. Also can recharge faster. And has almost twice the range. Though that was based on old observations of the show and the destruction of Earth battleships.

The new version has more defined factors. However all the later Earth wave motion gun have spread effects that allow for massive destruction of grouped up enemy fleets rather than single ships at a time. Andromeda and post-war Earth ships (as will as Yamato after her 2202 refit) have wave motion guns that are twice as powerful as Yamato's original gun.

Of course, in game, the special weapons were toned down. They usually can't outright blow up a capital ship without a critical hit. Even at maximum damage Andromeda can blow up the smaller battleships or cripple other battleships. Large battleships like Medaruusa would be a little over a third damaged. In game. Mainly because if they were as powerful Yamato could win with one shot from across the table on the first turn.

Games are not often the best source of material (well newer games to be precise) because high ups tell the developers to tone down or simplify things so the newcomers or below average players be able to play the game with fun. You remember how hard and difficult were the games of the pioneering age of game industry? Before the 2000's?

The fanart images are showing up.

Well the game in question is for table top miniatures gaming and was published in 1997.

I am working under a lot of assumptions here. The main one being that we are a little more than a year away from the start of the next show. And that we might have an announcement in two months. That is my guess. It could be later.

Another question for the future. What do people think the Earth will be able to build in terms of ships by whatever year the show continues into? Will they be able to duplicate the wave motion core? They have two presently, so if they don't use one as a planetary power source, or dissect it to find out how it works, they can have at least two fully functional wave motion engine battleships.

We know Earth can build everything else that was on Yamato locally. It is just the cores that prevent mass construction. If they can't reverse engineer the core, they will have a fleet of Solar System defense ships. Perhaps even an automated defense fleet to save on manpower.

They could also try to reverse engineer or use captured Gamilas wave motion cores from the ships at Pluto or the like (Even use inter-galactic trade routes). These cores might not be as effective as the Iscandarian model, but they would allow the Earth ships to warp between star systems. These cores might not be powerful enough to do all that Yamato can do, so maybe less powerful wave motion guns (Treaty restricted anyway) and perhaps no shields (or less powerful shields).

If they can make a warp capable fleet it will probably look like the old version's 2201 Fleet. If they cannot, will it revert to an upgraded pre-Yamato fleet? Without the Wave Motion Core, I wonder if the other improvements can still be used? The Shock Cannon is a Pre-Yamato weapon that requires a lot of power by pre-Yamato terms. Could the improvements in engine design make it possible for lighter turreted versions of the shock cannon to be used on Earth ships without a wave motion core? Shielding and warping are out of the question without a core, as is the wave motion gun. But the torpedoes will work just fine.

At the moment, I can see them using Yamato and Andromeda in the show regardless. It is a matter of everything else that is in question. Will Kirishima still be a part of the fleet? Will it get an upgrade to make it more modern? Will it be retired as Andromeda is commissioned (replacing Yamato as the retiring ship). Will the Earth fleet be wave motion equipped or improved conventional engines? Will they use a lot of manpower saving systems due to the massive loss of trained personnel during the eight years of war with Gamilas? Totally automated ships? Highly automated ships?

TZoli

I doubt they could not reverse engineer the technology.
Also you are right about high level of assumptions here, so I add even more uncertainty. We do not know what happened to the 2nd (Beemelan) core, it is even possible they gave it back to Starsha on Iscandar as an action of good will. Meaning only the core of Yamato remains. While Starsha seen the use of Wave Motion Cannon as a bad point she in the end give them the Cosmo Reverser System, in this aspect I think she would give either more cores or a method to produce them.
As for Gamilas, trade is out of question this early as diplomatic relations when Yamato arrived to Iscandar was more like truce with the provisional government then true peace.
There are the rebellious fleets and commanders who do not want to accept this government and want to fight on, not to mention the question of Desslar's survival and possible return?
Of course it is possible a formal peace treaty after Earth rebuilt, but I think they would not give their formal enemies technology which could be used against them.
On the other hand....
After the loss of great many ships at Balum the new government could decide to use the help of humans defend their territories against whoever enemy they are fighting alongside Gatlantis, and for that warp capable ships are necessary.

I would think that the battle against Gatlantis will finally end any lingering hostilities with Earth, even for Dessler (should he return). Especially if the battle takes place at Gamilas/Iscandar rather than Earth.

One wonders if the Gamilas Empire will fracture with not only the lose of Dessler but also several thousand warships. Some of the second class races might rebel or simply break away. More distant parts of the Empire might break off as relatively independent states under the local general if they are more or less cut off from Gamilas due to the Balun Gate's destruction. Some would support Earth (will Yamato) for allowing this to happen, while others would be enemies for life as old school loyalists.

It also depends how long it has been since Yamato left Iscandar. Starsha will likely be busy raising her and Momaru's child (likely named Sasha), leaving Yurisha as the main intermediate for Gamilas-Iscandarian relations in this new era. The Empire will have a spiritual side more than before. It will also need to consolidate as best if can while defending its border regions from Gatlantis and probably others. Gamilas tech seems to not be as advanced as Iscandarian tech in certain fields. Maybe it isn't that hard to make wave motion cores, but not as compact as the Iscandarian models. The Gamilas ones we see are huge by comparison. Earth just may not have had time to build the infrastructure needed to produce a core of any kind in a year. Post-war they might have time to come up with something crude (by Iscandarian standards).

There is also the matter of Dessler. Dessler still loves Starsha, that isn't going to change. It just a matter of where is he and what is he doing before he decides to head home. I will not assume he is dead, just because of who he is. He's Dessler. Traditionally he has about as many lives as Yamato. He always comes back. What they do with him is another matter. I don't know if he'd serve Zordar except if he has a debt of gratitude for saving his life. Such a debt would be hard to repay, but if all Dessler wants to revenge on Yamato...well he can have that. Until he remembers Starsha. But will his people take him back? The only thing he could do is save his race from an major enemy threat to be considered worthy of reclaiming his throne after trying to crush his own capital city just to get Yamato.

(Will Dessler be able to breath in space?)

Also: Pixiv images can't be hotlinked most of the time.

No he can't. That is probably a production error similar to the very first Wave Motion Cannon firing at Jupiter in the original series, they had to air the show before it was complete!

But even if he can why use a space suit on UX-01 after his assassination attempt?

Ithekro
2015-09-09, 15:30
It is assumed that either:

A: Later Gamilas ships can generate a bubble of breathable air (and wind) around their ships for Dessler to stand on with his cape flapping.

B: He was modified in surgery (on Gatlantis) so he can breath is space (and command his cape to wave because it knows better than to cross Dessler).

After Yamato 2, Dessler has been known to see Kodai off by standing on the deck of his ship, with no suit, cape flapping around. Kodai is in a space suit, or inside a ship. Happens in New Voyages and Final Yamato. Might happen in Yamato 3's last episode, but I don't recall exactly.

Frakken still uses a space suit in Yamato 3.

While we're on the topic of Gatlantis, I'm cross-posting some observations I made of Gatlantis weaponry I made on the CosmoDNA FB page.

---

I looked at the close-ups of the roundel turrets firing (the larger dome ones, not the cone-shaped ones), and it appears they have the same barrel opening as the giant quintuple turret's guns do on the Megaluda.
https://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xlt1/t31.0-8/12006468_1485643165092568_6401795007451352540_o.jp g
http://i.imgur.com/PjyFbRZ.jpg

Second, it appears the beams are comprised of at least three, most likely four smaller beams.
https://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xtf1/t31.0-8/11703501_1485645335092351_2726210618010223226_o.jp g

Now, the question is why do the Gatlanteans have the barrel dividers on their guns? Maybe it increases the life expectancy of the barrel? Or maybe it uses less energy to power 4 smaller beams than 1 larger one?

TZoli
2015-09-11, 12:30
As these weapons are particle based, barrel life is not an issue or maybe only after many 1000 shots compared to shells which wear out larger guns after a few hundred shots (Iowa's 16inch - 406mm cannons expected life was 290-350 rounds per barrel).
As for why use more beam cannons per "barrel" they maybe had issues producing larger lens or equipment focusing the beam similarly how the Japanese able to produce maximum only 46cm thick plates of armour (Yamato's frontal turret armour of 65cm made from two pieces).
Also probably the smaller projectors or focusing lens allowed the creation of the octuple (8 "barrelled") round turrets, because similar sized Gamilas turrets are only triple (double triple if you count the cruisers side turrets of the Meltoria and Destroia classes) or quad mounts.

Ithekro
2015-09-11, 13:31
Interesting detail. Not had a close enough shot to see the inside of the Comet ship's turrets before. So four projectors rather than two. With a high number of "barrels" per turret. They tend to fire one or two barrels at a time, and rotate quickly to another set of barrels to sustain fire verse the slower fire rate of the Gamilas and Earth main batteries.

Earth and Gamilas heavy batteries seem to fire beams that twist around each other in transit. Yamato and the Gamilas fleet battleship's main batteries did this at range, but close in the beams stay separate. Or in Yamato's case, trying to hit multiple targets with one turret, since a single heavy shock cannon barrel worth of energy seems to be enough to cut a destroyer in half.

We still have not seen the smaller twin turrets on the Comet capital ships fire. Nor have we seen them use missiles.

"Battle of Shambleau"

Captain's Log:
September 5, 2199

It has been quite the day. Wildstar took command after we encountered the people from what they called Gatlantis. They wanted to fight. They wanted our Wave Motion Gun. We don't have that installed anymore thanks to Queen Starsha's Cosmo DNA device taking up its space. We have to reach Earth. Wildstar ordered the ship to run. So we ran. Warping into this grey space. No stars to reference where we are. Just this strange planet with a dozen rings. He went down there for a few hours while Sandor had the ship repaired. Upon Wildstar's return we found the fleet from Gatlantis had followed us, but Wildstar wanted to fight this time. He said that for once, we would not be fighting alone. He was right. As I started to get dressed I realized I had made the right choice in making him the Combat Chief. As we rise through the clouds I saw a dozen Gamilon warships pull in along side us in formation. They would fight at our side this time, thanks to Wildstar.

The fleet from Gatlantis blockades the planet Shambeau, which is considered to be a great treasure by the leadership of Gatlantis. Governor-General Dagram seeks Yamato which has hidden within the planets thick clouds. The rumored "witches" of the planet are all that keep Dagram's fleet from entering the clouds. He is content with using the Magnaflame Gun and Strike fighters to bomb the planet into submission. However when Yamato bursts out of the clouds with Gamilon warships, it is like a new toy has been placed in front of him. A toy to break.

Turn One:

Yamato and the Gamilon fleet spread out in an effort to evade the expected Magnaflame Gun while sending the fighters through the cover of the planetary rings to engage the Carrier Group. Dagram fires anyway at Yamato, draining her shields and damaging her battle bridge controls.

Yamato and the fleet inch closer to the Cometine fleet, which now starts to move to intercept the Allied forces. The rings provide protection from most gunfire and missiles as the counter rotating rings and debris make it difficult to calculate a firing solution with the desired accuracy.

Turn Three:

Yamato's battle bridge controls are back in action with Yamato taking a shot at one of the enemy cruisers with her main shock cannons, but misses. The fighters strike on the Carrier group causing damage to the carrier.

Turn Four:

The clouds of Shambeau dissipate to reveal the metallic green mess of a planet it is with the mess locking down around the Gamilon carrier that was hiding within the clouds, stopping all movement. This distracts the four Blockage Groups from coming to Dagram's aid, as they try to figure out what is going on.

The Carrier group and Command group change course towards each other for defense as Yamato and the Gamilons start to come near the edge of the rings and easy firing range. Dagram fires off the Magnaflame gun for a second time, heavily damaging one of the Gamilon battlecarriers (the red one).

(Game called due to the GM (me) being too tired to play. The players said we should stop as I was barely keeping my head up and still have two hours of driving to do that night).

In the playtest, Yamato and the Gamilon forces closed on the Command Group and delivered masses of missiles to the Medaruusa-class vessel crippling it.

No loses at end of game (playtest had several Gamilon ships lost)

Conclusion: Don't game while tired.

The game area was two standard Star Blazers hex mats (1 and a half inch hexes) with sheets of thick clear vinyl over them. The vinyl was used to allow the planetary rings, clouds, and planet to be drawn onto the mat with dry erase markers. The printed WDFs I use are double sided so I used page protectors with a clear plastic sheet inserted into them to make them more ridged. The vinyl also allowed the drawing of extra hexes to bridge he gap between the two hex mats where they is normally a black void.

It's partly why I hold dreams of making a turn-based SBY game on the computer with rudimentary online multiplayer.

Not that I ever played this kind of game, as it did not arrive in Hungary (to my knowledge).

I know there was a bunch of these miniatures went to Italy and France.

Not many play this one anymore, too complex they say. Or perhaps too clunky in the missile phase. A few of us in California have been playing it for the last 13 years and have been working with the game designer's permission to modify the rules and ships in an effort to speed up the game without making it a different game entirely. I have been modifying ship sheets and making new ones for Yamato 2199 to keep the game modernized. I keep toying with new ideas I get from players or just concepts to see what a change would do. Still working on a way to speed up the defensive fire stage. We have an idea, but need a way to put the information onto the page rather than the calculator.

I will attempt to put up the Sunday battle as well, though I neglected to take pictures. I might be able to take similation pictures with what I have, but it will not be the same.

The complicated part is the dice rolls right? I think having a computer do the rolling with a simple program would highly streamline the process. What are the mechanics?

Ithekro
2015-09-11, 20:26
The complex part seems to be deciding what weapons to use in defense against large numbers of missiles or fighters. While they can be rolled per weapon I have started to come up with a system of adding up the maximum damage possible then just rolling that as dice and having that be the number of missiles or fighters shot down. It favors the defense more than normal but it does speed it up by maybe 15 minutes a turn. What I need to do is put some sort of defense value on the sheets to make it easier for the player to add up.

Standard defenses is percentage based per weapon based on the range. Some weapons can only be used for self defense while others can be used for fleet defense. Defense typically happens at the target ship rather than before that ship (unless it is an Antimatter missile that you really don't want possibly explode in your hex). Meaning the ranges can vary from ship to ship. Differend weapons have different defensive percentage chances to hit and most role a D4 per or or two hits. Save the deticated defense systems that roll 2D4 or the missiles that do a fixed number per missile (usually one or two per missile).

EDIT:

We had a table top game at Celesticon on Saturday. The game went well for a few hours until I was just to tired to continue. What follows is the battle report:

This battle was played at Celesticon on the night of September 5, 2015.

Star Blazers 2199: Ark of the Stars

For a PC game if you want 3D then modellers needed who can create the model and with some quality (rotating turrets and barrels for example) or Game engine. For example Star Wars Empire at War is good, quite moddable but the engine does not allow rotatable turrets (Corellian Corvette for example). For 2D games Flash is appropriate for that you only need to draw the ship and the moving components I think. I've never done Flash programming or game creation but if a serious project will start I could help with localisations (text) or even drawing ships/equipments.

As an experiment I was thinking about what the Earth might do if they need to upgrade battleship Kirishima yet again to keep her in the fleet after Yamato returns to Earth. My thoughts lead me to the idea of reconstructing her into a battlecruiser with as much new tech as they could put into her, minus the wave motion engine (if they can't build more cores that is). What I came up with was oddly similar to the old Hood-class battlecruiser.

After that I decided to take a look at just how big a Hood would be (roughly) compared to Kirishima. I was sort of surprised with what I saw, since I'd not really looked at just how big Kirishima is verse the old style ships. The Hood art is by the late CanisD.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/ithekro/Scale%20of%20Hood%20to%20Kirishima1_zpsm5putjqz.pn g (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/ithekro/media/Scale%20of%20Hood%20to%20Kirishima1_zpsm5putjqz.pn g.html)

Another friend suggested that the Hoods might be Kongos, just built 30 years later, citing ship designs built that far apart using technological improvements in the real world.

From the Episode 15 Commentary, this was an interesting bit:

[LC]: Gimleh’s Haizerad-class dreadnought is called Killmenheim and it is captained by Dora Nerge. If the name sounds familiar, that’s because it is. You may recall the Imperial Guard officer from Episode 10 was named Parn Nerge. According to official materials, both Nerges are clones, much like the majority of the Imperial Guard’s troops.

So that gives the Gamilas some of everything:

Android trooper
Alien troopers (Second class citizens)
Pure bloods
Clones.

That would make it easier to field massive fleets across galactic space.

TZoli

I assume normal clones who still needs training and learning the skills any humanoid being needs, because we would seen many Domels. This also could solve the supply (food) issues of the fleets without the using of dedicated agricultural planets or space colonies.

So I've been thinking, and if they have Sasha grow fast in the reboot there's actually a cool explanation they can use.

In the 2199 continuity, the Iscandarians used to be a militaristic race. Now, as a militaristic race they're gonna have losses as they expand and get into wars. One problem with replacing your losses is, if we assume the Iscandarians mature at the same rate as humans, it takes roughly 20 years to get a viable soldier, 15 or even 10 if you're desperate enough.

We know the Iscandarians were extremely advanced. It wouldn't be much of a stretch to assume they had great bio-engineering technology as well. Thus the Iscandarians could have engineered their DNA so that the maturation time for an Iscandarian from infant to adult is a scant couple of months. This means they can easily replace any losses they accrue while still having a biological crew.

TZoli
2015-09-16, 02:46
I'm not sure they will mature that fast, it is very demanding for a body both physically and nutrient wise to grow in such short period of times.

Ithekro

That is only if they want to try to pull (Kodai) Sasha off as a teenager while actually being under 5 years old. Though there may be something to that considering how Yurisha acts some of the time. But then, where would her parents be since all that seems to be left by the time she left was Starsha, Sasha, and herself.

This also doesn't seem to be the case with Gamilas children from what we can gather. Yet it is possible Gamilas are a rather long lived species compared to humans, despite seeming basically human on biological scans aside from skin pigmentation.

We left out something of the calculation for the Gamilas Empire and fleet's manpower requirement.
The Automatons, the Mechanized soldiers we seen time to time.
We seen that on the penal colony / prison planet, most of the staff was non organic soldiers. Desslar's flagship too carried quite a few units though that is a special case in my opinion. So it could be that most garrisons on conquered planets are made of these robotic autonomous units. Maybe even some of the warships crew could be robotic!

It would also account for why the humans hadn't knowingly encountered a Gamilas (of any species) before even from the wreckage of fighters and he like.

TZoli
2015-09-23, 10:00
So we can assume a ship's crew is probably mostly made of robotic personnel with the commanders, pilots and engineering made of Gamillan sailors. This of course could vary according to mission, fleet, 1st or 2nd class status. I assume most of the landing troops, police forces and gunnery personnel are mechanized in nature. Ships assigned for long range scouting or reconnaissance and exploration are probably have even higher if not 100% mechanized crew members.

Started drawing her and the usage of parts of the Andromeda makes it easier to do so.
Still I found these changes so far:

The Arizona is a bit longer (around 10-20 meters or a little bit more)

Her AA armament (Quad or Twin?) is of a larger calibre either 127mm or 152mm (I will stay
with 127 as that was the standard WW2 USN DP-AA Armament)

What I've used on the Andromeda for the Shield Generator and pitch thruster module, the same one is larger on the Arizona having 2x4 thrusters and a longer module meaning a possible stronger shield generator was installed.

The breaking thrusters which was on the Andromeda on the shield generators were removed and instead 4 slightly smaller boxy pods were put on the nose section of the ship I assume these are the same thrusters.

Fewer Tachyon Particle intakes are located on the hull.

The Wave Motion Gun Power regulator units are slightly different then of the Andromeda.

While Andromeda have 4 triple shock cannons, 4 twin gun mounts and 2 casemate bulges each with 4 guns, Arizona only have 5 triple shock cannons. Overall firepower the Andromeda is stronger Arizona have better arcs for her shock cannons so the difference in firepower is not that great. At closer range Andromeda can do the pounding while at long range Arizona is a bit better.

Ithekro
2015-09-25, 19:16
The range issue probably came up during the war with the Comet Empire and later Dark Nebula Empire. Their smaller ships thend to come in large numbers but have low range weaponry (though large numbers of guns) compared to the Earth shock cannons, and tend to explode with one or two hits at range from Earth shock cannons. While the Comet Empire would bring a number of battleships, they too would be destroyed by long range shock cannon fire. The Dark Nebula cruisers are over sized but they and their capital ships come in small numbers. Sometimes only a flagship, which is generally immune to shock cannon fire (though probably vulnerable to shell fire from Earth guns).

TZoli

Now like the Andromeda, Arizona too have some interesting features on it's hull, most notable the long bulge parallel with the wave motion gun. Any ideas what could this be? It is too narrow to be a forward launch bay for fighters.

I concur with skaianDestiny, they appear to be sensor arrays.
The garage kit does not have the blisters on the port and starboard sides of the bow, nor the one on the ventral side. It also has a different weapons array. Not sure if this model is official or not, but it may help in creating a variant (perhaps a mass-production model? ).

Sonar arrays maybe. They had experience with subspace submarines during the Comet War and with Yamato 2199 added into the mix, dimensional submarines as well. Might as well include countermeasures. One of the new officers in Yamato 3 had taken a class on Anti-submarine warfare theory starting sometime after Yamato got back from Iscandar.

Maybe we are not talking about the same thing. The small blister thing on the bottom is sure radar or sonar, but I'm talking about the entire hull section parallel with the wave motion cannon.
As for the model I think that is not official as from this screenshot you can clearly see the side triple turrets:

That houses the main RADAR, torpedo magazine, and storage for the ship if Arizona is similar to Yamato (which I imagine it would be).

Andromeda has a similar bulge parallel to her wave motion guns. The only difference with her is that she has a wing coming out of part of it. The other Earth battleships of the era don't have that, but the Andromeda and Arizona do. Maybe it is a protective blister for the wave motion gun chamber. One more layer of defense for the ship's final weapon. Or maybe it is a energy shunt to redirect the power of the wave motion gun. In case of overload, or maybe to use it in case they want to turn while using the thrust of the wave motion gun to rapidly go in reverse (that sounds like a horrible idea).

It might just be a pair of maintenance bays.

Yep, that is the section I was talking about with the data-sheet I posted. Here is another one that shows it from the front on Yamato.

http://www.ourstarblazers.com/vault-images/Feb14/83408.JPG

It is the main RADAR dome, torpedo bay, torpedo storage, and cargo storage area for the ship.

The equivalent on the Andromeda is on the top of the ship (between the two wave motion guns).

http://www.ourstarblazers.com/vault-images/apr10/44705.JPG

Wish I had a bigger pic for the cutaway of Andromeda, but here is the biggest one I could find.

But even in that view you can see the pair of torpedo tubes, the forward RADAR sensor, and the magazine for the torpedoes.

Imagine Andromeda and Arizona having rotory bays around the wave motion engine like Yamato. Or imagine the ship larger to fit some squadrons of fighters.

The alternative is that they don't carry much and that is why the Earth had built Battlecarriers to give the fleet some fighter wings.

Like some modellers I was correct as well that the openings on the side blister (my idea for shield generator) are actually for thrusters. The energy coming from the central reactor (2nd Wave Motion Reactor?) are separated from around there.

This is sad :(
(In the FAQ section)

Q. I've got a design I would like to submit. Can I send it to you?
A. Not any more. From this time forward, I will not be accepting any new fan-submitted designs. It has been a long haul, and there are too many other things that have occupied my life in recent years for me to effectively maintain this site. Not the least of which the fact that three of the four genres I support on this site are now effectively dead. Only Battlestar Galactica and her ragtag fleet survives in her new incarnation. I may add a few official Battlestar-related designs down the road, but I must soon move on. Of course, the site will remain alive as long as I can afford it, but that shall be the extent of my involvement for a VERY long time to come. I appreciate all the support and efforts given to me by the users of the SSDB.

And I did not even find an E-mail address :(

Yesterday evening before I finally went asleep I've thought about the Wave Motion engines and the intakes (Or radiators) of the EDF ships.

I think we have 3 eras or 2,5.
- The pre warp ships of the EDF too have these intakes (seems liek only the larger ships as the Isokaze lack these), but those are probably Hydrogen and Helium particle collectors for the Fusion Reactors.

- Yamato have an Iscandarian Wave Motion Core and a Wave Motion Engine whose construction was supervised (at least partly until her incident) by Yurisha so even if it's made by Humans it's quite advanced and thus does not require such intakes.

The Iscandarian Interstellar shuttle have these as well but they are facing aft so they are probably outtakes from excess energy production.

- The post-Yamato or new EDF ships have many of these particle intakes located on their hulls so I assume these use a less sophisticated wave motion core and engine and need additional Tachyon and Hydrogen/Helium Particles to power their Reactors. Which is quite logical if we think they reverse engineer the Iscandarian technology.

Except from the American artist designed ships of 2520, the later Earth ships like the Arcadia, Death Shadow or the Karyu have these intakes as well though much less in number meaning the technology was improved over time and reliance on the space particles become less extent.

Ithekro
2015-09-30, 19:14
It is possible. Though it might be Yamato doesn't have as effective a reserve as later ships which is why they later ships have collectors. That might have been a reason they wanted to retire Yamato so soon after the new ships were at fleet levels.

I've left out the 11st and 12nd versions, because:
First creating 10 colour variants are quite time consuming, and second, 11st looks like either captured by Gamilas or as a co-operation fleet with Gamilas forces, 12nd looks like either a special operations secret service ship, or pirate :)

So thinking more on the design philosophy of each faction we've seen, it struck me how multi-purpose Gatlantean ships are. The Lascaux and Kukulkan mount torpedoes, guns, and missiles, the Nazca loads some pretty hefty weaponry for a carrier, and the Medaluza, in addition to its Flame Strike Gun and giant fucking turret, has a flight of fighters. Speaking of the fighters, the Devastator fulfills the fighter, interception, and anti-ship roles.

Considering the Gatlanteans are likely nomadic, it makes sense they'd try to fit as much functionality into their ships as possible.

Meanwhile, the Gamilons have a massive empire of resources and forces at their disposal, meaning they're able to specialize their ships a lot more. Their two carriers have little in the way of armor or weaponry, and many of their ships lack point defense, most likely relying on the cruisers and destroyers for interception. A lot of their designs also have most of the firepower facing forward.

Earth invests in ships that have turrets capable of shooting in wide arcs. Since they have a smaller navy than other factions, each ship would be expected to fight multiple enemy ships. The WMG on basically every ship functions as a "do or die" weapon, as if Earth ships got in a battle the stakes are a lot higher for them than say a Gamilon patrol group in a border system. It's also an effective fleet-killer.

Indeed that is very logical. Also the lack of light AA on the original designs of EDF ships could be meant that they carry light craft to protect themselves.

Hm, thinking about Earth ships more, what is the purpose of the that divider bisecting the WMG opening?

http://www.oocities.org/edf_shipyards/edfbb.jpg

I know someone theorized it to be for splitting the WMG shot for the spread shot mode, but how is the thing not vaporized when the Wave Motion energy washes over it?

TZoli
2015-10-05, 15:54
Some ships like the Borodino or Lexington classes have this splitter on their Wave Motion Gun Noses, but I don't know what they are for. As for why does it not vaporizes, I assume the charged Tachyon particles (or whatever particles the Wave motion stream contains) reach critical destructive energy or power outside the firing chamber and hence the objects close the opening are somewhat safe. Similar like how a flame's hottest part is the uppermost yellow parts and not the reddish or even bluish inner and/or lower parts.

TZoli
2015-10-05, 16:17
My question would be, how much spacecraft the Lexington class SBBCV would carry?
According to the ship recognition manual of the Star Blazers Board Game from Voyager Entertainment circa 1998, she could carry 100 craft:

http://orig12.deviantart.net/aabd/f/2015/270/d/7/untitled_by_nezumiyuki-d9b6gkk.png

Though this manual gives her way much firepower concentrated on the bridge so I would not take this book with 100% correction.
Her standard as seen armament be:
1x Wave Motion Cannon
2x3 50,8cm Shock Cannons
2x4 40,5-45cm Casemated Shock Cannons
3x3, 2x2 AA Pulse Laser turrets
6x Torpedo/Missile tubes
2x Shield Generator units

I've asked my friend about the Wave Motion Splitter and the tank like objects on the bottom of the hull on most post Yamato EDF ships (Andromeda, Borodino, Arizona, Lexington) and I've got this answer:

Hi,Tzoli

About EDF main battleship wave motion gun muzzle splitter, also has discussion among Japanese fans and researchers.
Correct conclusion I think not out.
I have interpreted it's keel member and diffusion control plate of the wave gun.
Cover of the muzzle to the splitter it would be useful also be built.

The object of the cylindrical shape of the bottom of the twins, but this also is divided in various ways to interpret.
I came up with recently is the counterweight of the bridge and the turret.
In that case, the inner part is not anything good.
In the 2199 edition, wave barrier control room has been installed in the third bridge.
Perhaps there is a generator of the wave barrier there.
Assuming, that tank in main battleship / Andromeda class battleship It may be good to say that the wave barrier generator.
(However, Yamato 2199 sequel anime that are currently planned, might be the interpretation is overturned.
Because it may be another setting it is.)

From these two designs it looks like the Arizona and the Patrol Frigate Airone or the Battlecruiser Hood were the basis.

Based on these screenshots the Kagero's weapons as follows:
3x3 Elevated shock cannon turrets
4x2 AA gun turrets
1x10 Missile launcher
6x Missile launching tubes
4x3 External Torpedo Tubes

While the Escort Ship's:
2x3 Elevated shock cannon turrets
4x2 Shock cannon turrets
14x3 AA gun turrets
3x Large torpedo launch tubes or shock cannon portholes?
8x Missile launching tubes
1x10 funnel missile launch system
The Pirate version have a large calibre shock canon hidden behind the Nose plates and called X cannon.

The Kagero had Plasma Generators for main propulsion, not sure if she had wave motion engines as we did not see her warp.

The Kagero is lightly armed except for missile/torpedo weaponry so I assume it is a frigate, while the escort ships are larger and heavily armed makes me think they are cruisers.

Cosmo Warrior Zero is a lesser known Leiji Matsumoto Anime even in Japan, At first it was a PS2 game from which spanned an anime of 13 episodes and two OVA's in 2001. The story happens shortly after the defeat of the Earth Forces by the Mechanized men and now Earth was part of their empire as a separate dominion (Earthlings did not forced to became mechanized men. Following the captain of Warrius Zero who was assigned to hunt down Captain Harlock but eventually allies with him to defeat a larger threat.

It is a theoretical future for Yamato. At one point the hero ship's robot seems to be a distantly related model to AU-09. The robot is looking for the "legendary battleship" and in the PS2 game can tranform into a mini-Yamato.

There is a scene were the robot finally shuts down, still searching the the "legendary battleship". He ejects a small capsule that looks exactly like the one brought to Earth by Sasha of Iscandar in 2199. A shadow of a battleship eventually flys overhead and the capsule is picked up by a willowy blonde haired woman whose shadow resembles Mori Yuki.

Aside from its unique wave motion gun, it doesn't seem to be all that good of a battleship in the series. Its weaponry seems to be just more standard turrets from the smaller escort ships, which are not very effective against enemy battleships...much less Harlock's Deathshadow.

It doesn't help that the ships seems to be poorly maintained and understaffed in the anime. Also has many flaws in the design that need to be worked out.
