I did happen to notice the phoenix symbol, and that would suggest a phoenix is involved with the film. In fact, it's involved already. As a mere aesthetic. Surely there must be some reason or another for the symbol to be there since in no other part of the Fairy Tail mythos is such a symbol included. Yet you say with some level of certainty that, yes, it will be a plot device, regardless of importance. But will it really? Maybe, maybe not. There must be other details to support your claims. Some of which you may be withholding from the rest of us...or not...

It's highly integrated with the movie logo itself, I think it's a given that it's important to the film.
It could just be the mark of a new rival guild, but considering it's a movie and Natsu is a Fire Wizard, the idea it has something to do with an actual phoenix has a damn good chance of being true.

I know. I'm just so very much in the mood to learn more about the film that I'm getting a little tired of milking one single trailer and teaser site for all they're worth.

The official website (http://fairytail-movie.com/index2.html) has been updated, the official title revealed:
Fairy Tail the Movie: The Phoenix Priestess (劇場版「FAIRY TAIL 鳳凰の巫女」)
More info can be found here: http://fairytail-movie.com/news.html
I couldn't get much of it, but apparently the main new character for this movie is named "Eclair".
And here's a new poster image:
http://fairytail-movie.com/img/fairy_keyart.jpg
about time! FT has movie-potential with its setting and characters. I hope FT will get more movies from now on, like Bleach and Naruto. Even better if the movie can add to the main plot in the manga!
I don't think the movie will add to the main plot in the manga. At best, it may use, or better explain, some of the more secondary plot points or technical descriptions of the world. Most likely will be a stand-alone story.
Anyway, poster looks interesting. It makes it seem like there is some link between Eclair (the Phoenix Priestess?) and Lucy. Perhaps some connection to Layla or the spirit world? A Phoenix's element is traditionally fire, so with Natsu, I'm betting there will be fire vs. fire combat. Betting Natsu will power up to defeat the big baddie by eating the special Phoenix flames. So we get another one-shot power up for Natsu.
Eclair's facial expression makes her appear a bit depressed about something, but also a bit angry, suggesting that she is either the main antagonist, or is assisting the main antagonist. But that she's ultimately a good person inside and is only doing it because she was hurt in some way.
Lastly, I took the contents of that website and ran it through Google Translate:
March 22, "" priestess of Phoenix FAIRY TAIL "The Movie" official title of the movie the main visual and just completed has been lifted!
In the main this visual, unveiling the first time the figure of "eclair" mystery girl a guest character of the movie version. This character, has an important role has the stone of mystery called "stone Phoenix", are closely associated with the mystery of the work, together with members of the Fairy Tale, is a character we are involved in a conspiracy larger than ever before.
Also announced the details of the tickets were recorded with a comic drawn by Hiro Mashima special limited quantity will be released from (Sat.) "(Fairy Tale) + (plus) FAIRY TAIL The Movie" April 14!
"FAIRY TAIL + Movie" for benefits, luxury specification booklet of the same size as the Weekly Shonen Magazine. Special 30 page special edition comic is drawn, the prologue of the movie version and the main character has been drawn eclair. Director and cast interviews and messages such as interview, this was the rough draft version of the theater by Hiro Mashima and "sketch idea gallery", a luxury content aligned to the total page 48, before the movie, enjoy further benefits, even after the movie is.
Not too much detail, other than there is a conspiracy, and something about a "stone Phoenix."

Well, long as they can make the movie fairly entertaining it should be fine. Never have too high expectations when it comes to plots for these kinds of movies. Of course if it can deliver on nice action and a solid plot I won't mind at all.

If i get to see more of my Lucy I'll be happy.
Thank goodness she's my #1 character and not like Levy, or Cana, or Mira (tho i love them all too). In a lot of animes my fave character is always a side one.

A tune by Hallyu star Jang Keun-suk has been chosen as a theme song of a Japanese animation.
On Tuesday, a report from Oricon Style showed that Jang’s “200 Miles” will serve as the main song for TV Tokyo’s ongoing Japanese manga, “Fairy Tail.”
The news also mentioned that “200 Miles” will also be listed in his first full-length Japanese album titled, “Just Crazy,” set to hit stores in three different editions on May 30.
The album contains a total of 11 tracks including the title track “Crazy Crazy Crazy,” his Japanese debut single “Let Me Cry” and other songs including “Bye Bye Bye (album version),” “Rain” and “In My Dream,” which he performed during his arena tour last year.
The actor and singer officially kicked off his singing career in Japan in May last year with the release of his single “Let me cry,” which had topped Oricon’s singles chart upon its release.
Having many talents in the entertainment industry, Jang is currently appearing in KBS’ TV series “Love Rain” with Girls’ Generation member Yoona.
I'll link the source when i get home. Okay now that I'm reading it, I'm not sure it it's for the anime or movie. But a poster for the movie was used.

With the title of the movie, i have to wonder if Lucy will get a new key, like the Phoenix key. In most movies though, they seem somewhat non-canon in that what happens in the movie will never be brought up in the manga or anime even. So if she did get a new key, i have to wonder if we'd ever see it again.

The official website for the Fairy Tail: Hōō no Miko (Fairy Tail the Movie: The Maiden of the Phoenix) film announced on Wednesday that voice actress Aya Hirano will perform the anime's ending theme song. Hirano will sing the ballad as her character Lucy Heartfilia.
Final Fantasy franchise composer Nobuo Uematsu is composing the song. Lyricist Goro Matsui (My Bride is a Mermaid, Eyeshield 21), who is writing the song's lyrics, previously worked on the character songs for the Fairy Tail television anime series.

OMG the movie is so cool~ Can't wait to watch it!!
But don't really like the poster or CD cover.. it doesn't seem like the standard 4 (5 - happy) main character are being focus.. even though, the new character is the main point of the whole FT, but still quite disappointed about it
A chinese scanlation of the movie prologue chapter is out.
I can't read chinese, but Eclair apparently works as a fortune teller, and lives in a cave in the desert near a town. Momon, that weird birdlike creature with her, is some stuffed animal she sewed together and that half medallion she wears brought to life while she slept, much to her surprise. She's not particularly fond of Momon at first. Then after a stressful day she collapses on the way home, and gets surrounded by some wolves. To her surprise she wakes up unharmed in her own bed, and goes outside to find a rather mauled Momon holding a makeshift axe and standing guard. She warms up to him after that. The chapter ends with Eclair and Momon passing Lucy, Natsu, and Happy on a busy city street, and Lucy and Eclair pausing to look back over their shoulders before moving on.

You do realize their clothes in the anime now are the same as their clothes in chapter 258 of the manga and pretty much every chapter where the characters aren't dressing up for any special occasion, right?
Ergo, these are their current, normal post-timeskip clothes.

well i do not read the manga so have no idea about it, well it seems it's the same clothing as that of manga, the thing is that in many long running animes like Naruto, many times i find that the clothing is changed a little in the movie.
but it looks like Fairy Tail does it different style

Just came back from seeing the movie.
Pretty good! For a first movie of a shounen series it's really solid.
There's blood and the fanservice has been ramped up to manga level.
Animation quality varies a LOT, but after the first half it's solid work. Villians are cool and the story is typical Fairy Tail (i.e. Mashima) hackery :).
My only complaint is the Aya Hirano turns Lucy up to 11 and it's way over-the-top. I usually like her but she goes overboard in this...

:heh::heh::heh::heh: very funny moment
Lucy running around the town in only a towel! Though Erza in the wedding dress was great as well. Poor Momo dies in a horrible way. Though at least he met up with Eclair at the end. Like how the whole gang showed up for the final fight, though Lisanna was nowhere to be seen. Was surprised to see the council even let Makarov into the building, lol at the end.
Momo was originally a stuffed toy!
Just saw the fansubbed version. I was wondering why Erza kept getting dispelled, and what magic that chick was using. Apparently, Erza needed her heart to be stronger, so essentially the other girl's will was stronger. Thus, she couldn't dispel Erza's wedding dress, because Erza secretly REALLY wants to get married... which makes Erza freak out upon the realization, heh.

lol indeed was really funny, and i get a few disgusted about momon death, was unnecessarily since eclair is immortal(and i find why she survived with no damage from the fire and was funny discovery who she also like zeref is immortal and lived throught 400 years) another funny moment was when natsu and gray see lucy naked and natsu:

Yeah, I was disappointed in the movie for quite a few reasons. Expected Natsu to eat some Phoenix fire at some point to defeat Dist. He's getting totally pwned every time they clash, and then suddenly he's not? What changed?
Wasn't really impressed with Gray and Juvia's victory over the cannon guy. In fact, most of the fights weren't very impressive for a movie. It felt a bit like they just pushed something out in movie form to make money. And felt like Mashima didn't have much to do with the movie; it didn't really feel like his work. The drama elements felt a bit forced.
Still, it had a few good humorous moments and some decent action at points. Here's hoping they do a better job with the next movie.

because natsu was finally pissed-off with the guy "you made lucy cry", was what happened the tipical "you messed with my girl"!!!!, dont forget the best way to make natsu go full rage/hulk mode is mess with lucy, what i dont liked was that too "much dark" in the fight little i almost dont know what happened( due to being too dark to see what they are doing) and like you the drama in the end looked a few "forced", well about mashima he "co-write" the movie this means who another guy write the story and mashima just revised and asked to put somethings like the "natsu stare at lucy smile" in the end(mashima romance pairing tease trolling signature in manga, anime and ovas) and maybe looked a few rushed the story(maybe because they can't make the story more bigger), but like you told this was his first movie and if the FT sales continues to grow like they are we for sure gonna see another movie maybe or in this year end or maybe for sure next year.

because natsu was finally pissed-off with the guy "you made lucy cry", was what happened the tipical "you messed with my girl"!!!!, dont forget the best way to make natsu go full rage/hulk mode is mess with lucy, what i dont liked was that too "much dark" in the fight little i almost dont know what happened( due to being too dark to see what they are doing) and like you the drama in the end looked a few "forced", well about mashima he "co-write" the movie this means who another guy write the story and mashima just revised and asked to put somethings like the "natsu stare at lucy smile" in the end(mashima romance pairing tease trolling signature in manga, anime and ovas) and maybe looked a few rushed the story(maybe because they can't make the story more bigger), but like you told this was his first movie and if the FT sales continues to grow like they are we for sure gonna see another movie maybe or in this year end or maybe for sure next year.
Not really. The same thing happened with Erza in the Tower of Paradise.

yeah i remember this time too, but after that today all the times who natsu goes full rage or goes totally "i dont care any more about what is happen now" is around lucy, erza was the only girl in danger beside lucy who really made natsu go mad( maybe you gonna count also yukino but if you look what happened he not was really full rage in the same way when was with erza or more lucy, he get pissed-off about what they made to yukino but easy forget after does some damage).

Welp, I liked the movie...it wasn't anything special to be honest but it wasn't a bad movie at all so it gets a thumbs up from me at least.
I really liked that they didn't use the very thing that has plagued me whenever I try watching the anime version...the freaking seals when they use magic. Seriously, why did they put that in the anime? You can see from the movie that magic can be perfectly animated without needing the annoying magical seals as if they were necessary (yes, as petty as it seems it is one of the main reasons why I don't watch the anime version).
Also liked the overall art style, felt more like the manga rather than the anime.
The story was decent, the fights were so very weak though. Juvia and Grey's fight was kinda boring...and Juvia is one of my favorite characters of all time. Erza's fight was stupid and nearly put me to sleep. I did like Gajeel's fight, it was simple and quick, very well done IMHO.
The fight with everyone vs the phoenix was decent...had a mini Acnologia fight feel to it but it wasn't anything special.
I agree with some people about the Natsu fight with Dist, I too was expecting Natsu to eat the Phoenix (maybe I've been a bit spoiled by the Naruto movies where he uses a new plot related rasengan every damn movie) and the fact that it wasn't used was kinda surprising...in a good way. Though the fact that Natsu was completely destroyed at first but suddenly was strong enough to fight Dist for no reason other than nakama power and rage was BS...then again it is FT and Nakama power > Everything else.
But again, the plot was good and the story was told quite nicely...if the fights had been much better then this would have been a fantastic movie, but since they were all so weak I'll keep it in the Decent Movie category.

hi guys after watch both movie and the little pre-quel, i'm noticed something maybe i can be wrong but:
http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/7762/tsukifairytailmovieprol.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/443/tsukifairytailmovieprol.jpg/)
this boy from the short prequel of the movie is this guy from movie:
http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/4205/tsukifairytailthemoviep.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/18/tsukifairytailthemoviep.jpg/)
reason:
the boy after lost his pet and talk with eclair he showed being afraid of the death and wanting he can live forever.
then this guy in the fight with natsu was talking about the same, wanting to be immortal, being afraid of death, same hair and since eclair is immortal and was walking around all the fiore realm.

Actually it was Erza who confirmed it. Her second encounter with what's her face de-equipper chick.

I wish we'd get more of the older FT girls. Preferably Mira and Cana.

Actually it was Erza who confirmed it. Her second encounter with what's her face de-equipper chick. In the manga a few times, she had good angles to de-euip, but in the movie, she had a full frontal screen shot of her nice tits. :kisskiss:
I wish we'd get more of the older FT girls. Preferably Mira and Cana.^ This man is wise beyond our time.
Hmmm, both are good picks. I want to see Cana weaker side and Mira being out of character for kicks!

What can I say about the FT movie?
Just this: it fell short of my expectations.
Action: 9 out of 10.
Action-wise, the movie got me hooked. The fighting sequences were incredible, much better than those in the TV series. You could tell that much effort was given to choreograph the fights to be as real and awesome as possible. Plus, it gave us something we've all been asking for all this time: and that is BLOOD. Splattering, crimson blood. In all honesty it made Fairy Tail feel so much different, like it matured a lot. And I loved it!
As characteristic of FT fillers, the fight at the end involved more than just the main characters (Team Natsu), but also most of the Fairy Tail guild. The best for me was when Laxus and the Raijinshu show up, because I never expected that they would. Sadly, Gildarts wasn't there; but it could be a good thing, since he's so OP he could just solo the Phoenix boss monster.
---
Art: 6 out of 10.
The most notable difference between the TV series and the movie is seen art-wise. Art-wise, the movie wasn't all bad. Nor was it all good. I like how they drew the girls here, their eyes look more like how Mashima drew them in the manga. What bothered me was how Natsu and Gray were drawn. Natsu looks so different with the weird hair, and Gray looks like he's been working out. Happy, too, was drawn quite differently than in the TV series, but at least he looks more like himself in the manga.
I think many would agree that the art shift made the movie look cheap. I bet many would still have preferred the original animation style of the TV series which the movie only needs polish. Not only would it look more budget-worthy, but it would also give that sense of familiarity to the viewers of the anime.
Another thing that made the movie noticeably different from the TV series, though, are the colors. The movie, unlike its colorful TV counterpart, is colored more blandly and less bright. The color shift ended up giving the movie a gloomy feel which is a little...boring...to the eyes. It seems like they were using Mashima's usual color choice, but there are some things that look better on paper than on the big screen.
---
Story: 4 out of 10.
Story-wise, the movie was at its worst. If I were to describe it in just a few words I'd say it felt like a mini-Key of the Starry Heavens. And I did NOT like the Key of the Starry Heavens, not as much as I liked the other arcs. The story felt like it had something essential missing, and at the end of it I felt like I didn't get what I came for. The movie's plot wasn't interesting, there weren't any twists, and the development (of the story and the new characters) was too fast it's a bad thing.
---
Soundtrack: 9 out of 10.
One word: superb, just like in the TV series. Added so much to the action scenes. Kept the movie in pace even through the cheesy dramas. So yeah, that makes it really important, but still, it's pretty much a staple for any Fairy Tail animation anyway. So I didn't put much weight on this one to my perception of the movie overall.
All in all, I'd give the movie 6.5 out of 10. I actually think a score of 5 is more fitting, while 7 is just too much.
Just my opinion, of course. For a person like me who pays more attention to the story than anything else, this movie gave me much less than the hype I expected. No thanks to you, Mashima and your teaser posters. (Yes I'm referring to THAT, Natsu and Lucy). Hmph.
Despite my rather poor reception, I still think they should make more FT movies. The Big Three anime have several; FT just has one. The Grand Magic Games arc feels like it is reaching a climax which would be worthy of a full-length movie; but then again, they could just use another original plot not found in the manga.

This is old news, but the English dub of the movie will be premiering (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2013-07-22/denver-nan-desu-kan-to-host-english-dub-premiere-of-fairy-tail-film) at Nan Desu Kan in Denver, Colorado from September 13 and 15.
I was hoping if someone would be able to go and pick up on the English cast members, especially for Lily, who will be making his very first dubbed appearance here (Animax aside).

Good news (as the dub forum revealed), a trailer and part of the movie's new cast is up. Bad news, the guy you're thinking of (J. Michael Tatum, who played Simon) isn't Lily, but rather a virtual unknown.
Eclair - Jessica Calvello (the first voice of Excel in Excel Saga)
Momon - Tiffany Grant (Asuka in Neon Genesis Evangelion)
Cream - Scott Zenreich (complete unknown)
Pantherlily - Rick Keeling (also unknown)
There's also word going around that one Taliesin Jaffe is playing Dyst.
Lastly, this trailer is a version not uploaded by Funimation, but still the same trailer; hopefully it won't be blocked where you are, Max.
Funny thing about it: it plays up Duke (not Prince) Cream as the main villain, seeing how he technically is for about 2/3 of the movie. Yeah, like the guy who takes up a whole third of the box-art betraying him was such a twist. Shyamalan would be proud.

That eyecatcher for the video-v-;;, it's like, we have 2 huge reasons to go watch this movie.

The source for that appears to be Jaffe's facebook:

Now that this is out, I wonder who plays the other incidental characters, namely Cannon, Coordinator, and Chase. And maybe Gran Doma, since he's a recurring character on the show. After all, it premiered at a convention, so someone's bound to know... and bother to put it online...

I have to be honest, I found the movie a little disappointing, don't get me wrong, I'm an avid Fairy Tail fan but it felt like whoever was in charge of the story didn't do very well. The premise of the story was very good but the execution was pretty lacking.
It upset me that I didn't feel sad about the Priestess' death ><

After watching the movie again in the dub, I remembered just how boring it was. I mean, I've only seen it in full once before, and watched specific clips of it I liked after that. But going through the whole thing was actually kind of a chore, something the voice cast that I love so much could only barely hold together. And even they had their weak moments.

Memories of the first anime start flooding back with that trailer. And the main character designer of this movie didn't even work on the anime before. See, this is how the anime is supposed to look: bright, deep, and glowing colors. If the third anime can capture that look rather than the muddy gray colors the Tartaros arc introduced, I just might sit through even the most infuriating moments of the story.
I wonder if the manga will still be running by the time the movie is released. It is in its climax, after all. Do we have any idea whether it's placed before or after the current arc, or just in the general time frame but can't logically fit anywhere in the story, like the early Dragon Ball Z movies? My money's on before, because of Natsu's arm bandage that he was sporting.

It can't fit logically anywhere within the story.
Natsu has the arm bandage, which indicates that this is post Tartaros arc, and post time skip. However Fairy Tail never reached a position of being ready to take jobs or requests before the Alvarez arc started up, and in the course of the arc, Natsu's lost the bandage, and picked up a scar on his cheek. So it can't take place before the timeskip, and it can't take place after the Alvarez arc, and there shouldn't be any room between the Avatar arc and the Alvarez arc in which it could take place.

does anyone know what theaters this movie will come out in the US? and if so could you please link where you found it from. I have been looking for over a month now and can't seem to find anything.
No information about the US release is available other than the announcement (https://www.funimation.com/blog/2017/05/12/fairy-tail-dragon-cry-acquisition-announcement/) it would be in theaters.

So.. Is true that END is in this movie? seriously?
It'd be weird considering there's a tease for the Alvarez arc at the end with Zeref, Brandish, and the ice dude. Wouldn't that break the order of events the anime is seemingly trying to follow?

So.. Is true that END is in this movie? seriously?
I saw the movie, so let me tell you this:
The story is set between the FT Revival and Alvarez arcs. When Natsu turns into his half-dragon form at the very end, the villain recognizes Natsu as E.N.D. and begins to call him that. So rather than this being his dragonified form (which logically shouldn't have happened at this point in the story), it's suggested that it actually has something to do with his E.N.D. form.
Anyway, I have to say that I feel it was the right call for me to hold off on the movie until I finished the manga, because it's nothing like the dark and, at times, boring story of "Phoenix Priestess". Quite the opposite, in fact: it was a much stronger story all around, with plenty of funny and sweet moments, and quite possibly one of the more intriguing villains Fairy Tail has given us in a while. It even made sense of a certain scene in the manga which I didn't realize was tied into the movie until now; it was brought to my attention that Mashima put a scene or two in the movie that he wanted in the manga, but couldn't due to time restraints. I'd even go so far as to say it gave me some things I wanted to see in the final arc. So if there's even a tiny part of you that still harbors a fondness of Fairy Tail in your heart, I highly recommend this film to you.
