Fate/Apocrypha is a series of Light Novels based on a new Holy Grail War (seperate to the five Fukuyu wars), written with the help of several other authors and artists and with various details and character designs collected in Fate/complete material IV Extra material. It was originally conceived as a joint-project MMORPG by Type-Moon (now cancelled).

The first act was published in the Type-Moon Ace magazine. Written by Yuichiro Higashide, Act 1: Unbirth for the magazine revolves around the magus Hyouma Sagara, attempting to summon Jack the Ripper as a Servant.

Jack t. Ripper? Sounds very badass, and the title sounds epic as well. Is it a spin-off or in the same universe?

Okay. How does Jack the Ripper, notorious serial killer that killed many protitutes in London in the late 1800s....turn into that? What reasoning do they come up with for all the murders?

She's the abandoned daughter of a prostitute who eventually went crazy. In this crazy state she'd go up to prostitutes believing them to be her mother. They rejected her and when she next came upon them she killed them and attempted to return to their womb.

Acording to fate/apocrypha this supposed to be the sixth war then right? Fourth fate/zero, fifth fate/stay night but something doesnt add up... according to what i read isnt rin's teacher waver velvet el melloy the second destroy the holy grail at the end of the fifth war? after fate/hollow ataraxia i guess...or maybe the three family that created the holy grail created it again? or did the destruction fail/incomplete? which cause the reason each participant must bring it's own vessel of the holy grail instead of it being managed by einzbern family.. and it seems according to the wiki the church didnt fully supervised the war instead it create a new class.. a ruler class (saber class...the one that gilles so infatuated with.. joan of arc)which role is to supervise the war directly...church just an add on this time i guess... i assume this to prevent problem that cause disaster in the last two war (kirei's cheating, gilles de rais indiscriminated murder...you know...) and manage if one arise, it is said in the wiki holy grail usually didnt manage the game directly, i guess the last two war change a lot of things. and from the list of cast why they manage to summon jack the ripper, vlad? isnt they not exactly a heroic spirit (it is said it jack the ripper is a reverse heroic spirit...what does it mean?)? is the holy grail spirit still defiled by angra maiyu? isnt it already taken care of in Fate/ hollow ataraxia? or is it?? and why is it fourteen instead of seven, is it a new rules incorporated by the holy grail maker or just by the whim of the holy grail itself? many question...

And why does everyone seem to dislike Jackie? Seriously?

IIRC they are going to do a chapter per Servant

The problem is that TypeMoon Ace is twice a year.

If they only do one chapter per issue, it will take 7 years just to get the intro done.

edit: oh, and I'd like to add that Nasu and Takeuchi had very little involvement with Apocrypha to began with. The first chapter was written and illustrated by Yuichiro Higashide. Nasu is only responsible for Karna and Jeanne (whose appearance is apparently canon)

well, seeing as how apocrypha is basically TM authorized fanfiction, if the other authors who created the servants decide they want to make a full blown project, they might get nasu's approval and we might just get an actual apocrypha project...

IIRC the only reason we even got this is because Yuichiro Higashide, the guy who created jack the ripper, told Nasu he wanted to write something about it, and Nasu just went "lol ok, we'll publish it in TMA"...

so yeah, it's not even really just a matter of demand, so much as all those writers deciding to make something out of their creations...

It's not like Jack the Ripper being a woman or pretending to be a woman is exclusive to Type-Moon. Hell, the 6th Detective Conan movie (which would've been around 2002) had Jack the Ripper dress as a female and pretty much live his life as if he were female.

I wasn't really impressed with the first chapter. I had hoped someone else would write the rest.

- Jackie's Master for some strange reason didn't bat an eye about all the strange things happening before her and she doesn't mind Jackie killing people -_-.
- Jackie's character design doesn't fit with Fate/Stay Night overall character design style, it's impractical , it's too sexualized, and I can't suspense my disbelieve enough to accept that Jackie would wear something like that when she was still alive.

Unless you're one of the most amazing, elite magi ever, yeah I think you need to speak to use magic. Though she may still need to speak, but can just do so instantly instead of needing to actually recite them.

That's true, but why doesn't she look like that in this Grail War? I got the impression that the clothes the servants wear are the same they wore when they where still alive.

But even if we ignore that part her clothes are still much to impractical for combat and too sexualized compared to the character designs in Fate/Stay Night and Fate/Zero.

I don't think. She is not wearing anything what could somehow strictly hindered her in the fight. In addition, she is the assassin, not a fighter. Her fighting style can be rather on the principle speed-kill than close combat.

The thing I don't like about her costume is that she isn't covering the area around her crotch. Only wearing panties is impractical, it's cold, it gives her no tactical advantage and it leaves it open for attack.

It has nothing to do with who draws her, but who did her initial design. When Takeuchi is going to draw her he will be stuck with Sanada Taketo design.

“In the name of Joan of Arc, I command you, fourteen servants.”
- Jeanne d’Arc, The Ruler.

The story is focused on a Holy Grail War separate from that of the five Fuyuki Wars, with 14 servants instead classic 7. There will be two factions where there will be 7 red servants vs. 7 black servants. The story will be centered around Joan of Arc. The Holy Grail war is checkers-alike leitmotif.

Joan of Arc/Jeanne d’Arc a.k.a Ruler, plays an important role in Fate Apocrypha and is also main protagonist in this series, featuring a new character who will be alongside with her.

Full novel will be released sometime in the winter 2012.

The only part that worries me is how bad they're gonna botch the legends... again. Sigurd, I don't think people realize, is capable of overpowering demigods... which is no mean feat for a mortal. (For those of you who do now know what I'm talking about, Siegfried overpowered the Valkyrie Brunhilde).

Gram or Balmung, depending on the legend. Additionally, the sword is made of a celestial metal (thanks to Odin). Yet... I wonder if he'll keep his Shroud of Shadows (allows him to disguise himself as anyone). It would be truly great irony if he was betrayed by his master, as that is what happens in his legend. Brunhilde, who loves Seigfried, is the wife of King Guenther of Burgundy. Because he had been bewitched by a potion of love by the King's sister, Kreimhild, he no longer loves her and at one point, greatly offends her. Brunhilde demands his death, only to learn how Kreimhild had caused the debacle to begin with. After Siegfried is killed, Brunhilde kills everyone responsible before killing herself on his funeral ship. Yeah, that legend does NOT have a happy ending.

Note: Brunhilde is married to Guenther because Siegfried disguises himself as him to defeat her in combat, which is no easy task. You overpower a Valkyrie.

Kimiko Khan
2012-07-29, 01:59
I dont remember him fighting her. but I've only read tolkiens translation of the volsung saga. It only had him walking through a circle of fire which seemed to be enough to impress her. He does have some similarities to Lancelot with the whole forbidden love thing. I wonder if they'll bring in his horse. It's suppose to be an offspring of Odin's horse.

Flinch
2012-07-29, 10:11
Brunhilde didn't agree with Odin on a certain matter, and cast her down to the mortal realm as punishment. Additionally, she was to sleep surrounded by a ring of fire of which no mortal man could enter. Siegfried managed to go through and wake her up. In order to find Siegfried, Brunhilde put out a competition for her hand in marriage, which was to impress her, then best her in combat. If they failed, she got to kill them. According to the lore, one of the tasks was to do better than her at a boulder toss, which she threw ~72 feet and then jumped on top of it in a single leap. He then beat her in combat, all the while posed as Guenther.

You can imagine how pissed Brunhilde was when she learned that she had been tricked like this.

A few translations, and I pick out what seems to be in common, and what makes the most sense according to the mythos.

sagdashin

Yep that is the story of Siegfried. There's also a lot more though, he kills a dragon named Fafnir and baths in it's blood, rendering him invulnerable. However during his bath there was a leaf on his back, making a blind-spot where he could be stabbed or shot to death. This is also where he got the nickname Siegfried Dragonkiller, and makes him a natural enemy to dragon-blood creatures, like Arturia for example. What happens to Sigurd after this is what Flinch said.

I think I am in knowledge with the majority of the story with the exceptions of some minor details, as I am Norwegian it's natural to learn about him in school, as Nibelungenlied derives from Völsunga saga and the tale of Sigurd (Siegfried's Nothern-Eruopean name: Sigurd Fåvnesbane [Sigurd fafnsbane or something]), where he is a Norse hero, (Norse = Scandinavia.)

His sword Gram that is forged in the Volund smithy is from Norway (I think) in lore, also where his father pulled it out of the tree Branstokk (similarities to Caliburn) , it was destroyed, and then reforged in Siegfrieds time, where it got the name Balmung. It's also a possibility that Siegfried is Beowulf if we compare Nibelungenlied to the poetic Edda.

And a final feature to mention, her roleplay is familiar among “Anti-Hero” archetype.

So, Jeanne is three classes in one, including both a whole new class of her own and the buttjoke class (being Jeanne certainly is suffering, after all), and she'll be somewhat of an anti-hero? This deserves a Caster reaction image, but I'm not sure which one.

This sounds like such a mess, yet it just makes me want to know more. Honestly, this whole project has me excited, mainly because it seems like some crazy experiment to check if the fate franchise can hold its ground with only the concept of the grail war and without any of the characters we've come to know and love.

The irony is.........Jeanne as Lancer is make sense if she use La Pucelle to commit suicide (According to Fate Material info) and she use flag as weapon (In very lancer-ish).

As for "Anti-Hero", i think she was actually final boss? Come of think it, she is "Ruler" after all. Unless there is another reason she is really anti hero like Berserker Stay Night (Hercules) who suppose to be Hero but instead as villain.

Speaking about hero, was there info about Jeanne will have partner since last few weeks? I won't surprise if she really does (Pretty much standard for Type Moon, opposite sex of two protagonist like Saber & Shirou, Tohno Shiki & Arc, Ryougi Shiki & Mikiya, Saber Proto & Ayaka).

It just my wild guess though.

Nasu: To summarise, there is a conspiracy in the finale of the story that intends to use the Holy Grail War framework for evil. As the Counter Force, the Servant Joan of Arc wishes to safeguard the framework of the Holy Grail War. Other Servants wish to protect their respective Master, but Joan wishes to protect the Holy Grail War. Although the development of the story may change depending on the Servant’s relationship with the Master, ultimately the story concludes with Joan activating her ultimate Noble Phantasm which she stubbornly withheld.
Hopefully that novel ends somehow better. :(

According this Apocrypha was supposed to be originally online game with a complete story. You should play as Master of one of the servants. Against other masters (other online players) with their servants for online ranking. You could fight or build alliances against other masters. Also there was some development of relationships with your servant, and others.
In any case, but the story concluded with Joan that for protection of the Holy Grail activates La Pucelle and vaporized everything.

Anyway, this ending depressed me. I hope they won't screw up in light novel version.
Well, the Novel has two options. Either retell the story of what was originally prepared for the game (And then we can maybe expect even worse end than had Zero :upset:). Or takes the original story and features only as inspiration and tells a whole new own story.

Karna (Lancer) voiced by Koji Yusa & Jineko (Master, who is net addict) voiced by Aoi Yuuki.

Lancer (described as a “mysterious servant” who is pink succubus) voiced by Rumi Okubo.

I think that some other rules exists for this war since it's between two teams. What I am curious about is what's going to happen, when, let's say, there are two servants left - there are no teams to represent any more - do they fight for their own or something, just how are the rules surrounding the teams working.

Not really. In the first place The war introduced in Apocrypha is different from previous ones. The story takes place in Shinjuku, not Fuyuki. So this is not Heaven's Feel 6. Thus We can expect that many things will be different. For example, it is likely that this grail will not affected by Avenger. Although anything is possible.

Mordred!... huh ...

I mean, I do get that they had changed his(her? I mean that outfit makes it hard to tell) backstory somewhat in Fate and made him a ''perfect knight'' and whatnot before his betrayal, but still ... this is seriously stretching the entire ''Throne of Heroes'' and '' Heroic Spirits'' concept really thin if they are going to make him/her a genuine one (unless (s)he was qualified for summoning due to the connection to the Arthurian lore a la Medusa and Meda)

I mean, it does open a lot of possibilities for some interesting stories, but I can't help but think this is another one of Takashi's insane desire to include his wifu in everything Type-Moon brings out ...

That girl on the right... corrupted heroic spirit Kuroyukihime!?

Heh, yeah the design is pretty similar (though I guess it is somewhat common nowadays). Still makes her pretty cool and attractive looking.

I do get what you are saying about the design, but I don't think we can really call her a ''corrupted'' HS considering this is Semiramis we are talking about. If we go by the sort of HS that Nasu considers pure, she would be among them I think considering how famed she is.

Should've chosen a different colour. The one, true Red Saber is Nero!

I'm of two minds about this. On hand I agree that the overlap with Extra!Saber isn't really good (though it is inevitable with how many Saber's we have now) and I would've liked if they had made it white instead to reflect Merlin's prophecy better.

On the other hand it does makes sense as we know that the central motivating force in Mordred's character (aside from the father complex) is that he always considered himself to be the rightful heir to Arthur and the throne, and since traditional the Welsh Dragon and the red colour are associated with Arthur's reign, it would be natural if he took red as his colour as well as a way of saying he is (or will be) the king. Would also tie in with his wish (and I don't think it's going to be hard to figure out what it is going to be about).

Or maybe I'm giving this too much thought.

Now this one is interesting enough for me to do a brief summary of. Only putting down the interesting facts.

Leftmost (Gordes): Summoned the Black Saber with a bloodstained leaf of a Sacred Fig tree as a catalyst (Siegfried). A gigantic douchebag (Not in the text).
Second from left (Selenik): Summoned the Black Rider with a glass bottle which had a liquid stain left on it as a catalyst (Not sure which Rider is this, Saint George or Astolfo, leaning to Astolfo though, cause I'm almost certain Saint George will be on the opposite team as Siegfried. They wouldn't miss out a Dragon Slayer vs Siegfried, who bathed in the blood of a dragon for the world). Rather attached to Rider. (What is this, Fate/zero?) Regardless, yay for bishoujo.
Third from left (Danik): Black Lancer's Master. Catalyst not stated. Plundered the Holy Grail from the Third Holy Grail War of Fuyuki, is almost a century old despite looking in his 20s (At least he looks better than Zouken).
Fourth from left (Fiore): An adorable girl assumed to be Danik's successor. Summoned the Black Archer using an ancient arrow as a catalyst (Atalanta). All hail bishoujos.
Fifth from left (Cowles?): Fiore's little brother, is immature and childish beyo- err, beneath his age. Summoned the Black Berserker, with the blueprints of the 'Ideal Human' as a catalyst (Frankenstein).
Sixth from left (Roche?): Thirteen-years-old, and already famous in the field of 'Doll Engineering'. Respectfully refers to the Black Caster she has summoned by 'Sensei', their relationship is close to that of a teacher-student (Shakespeare). Spends all her time building golems in a workshop in the city for the Holy Grail War.

All of the above guys are part of some Romanian(?) organisation/clan/whatever, Yggmillennia, which they have behind their name. Reference to Yggdrasil should be clear as day, Danik even speaks of Yggdrasil (Tree of the Thousand Worlds) in his quote.

Big guy in the black jacket is a freelancing Necromancer. Summoned Red Saber with a splinter of the Round Table.

Black team: Siegfried, Astolfo, Atalanta, Frankenstein, Shakespeare, Jack the Ripper, Black Lancer (probably Vlad, since Romania).
Red team: Mordred, Saint George, David, Spartacus, Semiramis, Red Caster (one of the replacement for Kintoki & Benkei), Red Lancer (probably Karna).

Basically 1 of the seven classes for each side.

Don't think the green-haired guy looks like the type to be a Caster; might have some discrepancies.

Sorry, this just struck me. They're probably Romanian; which makes it highly likely that Danik's lancer is Vlad, since Dracula originates from Transylvania, in central Romania.

Which would mean-

Black team: Siegfried, Astolfo, Atalanta, Frankenstein, Shakespeare, Jack the Ripper, Vlad.
Red team: Mordred, Saint George, David, Spartacus, Semiramis, Red Caster, Karna.

Also, names are a pain, leave it to the translator to rack his brains over.

Just what Ukulelembo said, first chapter the story is set sometime in Fate/Zero (Meaning this series is before Fate/Stay Night or before Fate/Zero or both), no evidence relation to F/SN but it seem how the connection tied into from Fate/Zero first.

I didn't like her original.

Every servants has new change design, like Jeanne's purple ribbon hair and Semiramis's design. Not sure if Jack was really "redesign" because redesign doesn't mean change everything, it could be Illustrator draw her in typical feel like "Takeuchi Takashi" character without feel this is kinda loli design.

Does Fate/Apocrypha have a concrete relation to Fate/Stay Night or not?

For now, nothing is certain. In first chapter was briefly mentioned fourth war. Suggesting that Apocrypha takes place sometime after Zero. But the first rumors from potential readers of Type-Moon Ace claims that Apocrypha is an alternate universe where the Grail was removed from Fuyuki City after the Third War. And thus fourth and fifth wars does not occur at all. This is however in contradicts with what suggested the first chapter. And it's all confusing. We will see later how it really is.

Reika Rikudou and Jack's redesign implies that the chapter preview in TM Ace was scrapped and rewritten. This would resolve the inconcistency about the mention of fourth HGW. Also, apparently Adult Waver and 20something priest Shirou is appearing so it should happen after the fifth Fuyuki year-wise

There are spoilers that black caster is suposed to be Solomon ibn Gabirol, and it fits since his master creates golems.

Just FYI:

屍体と過ごした少年時代 means he spent his youth with cadavers. Nothing to do with stepping over them.

First page translation, is this okay here?

"La Pucelle carried within her kindness, humility,

honesty, naivete, and her faith.

Those were all she had."

―Words of a certain theologian

Rouen, Place du Vieux-Marche

......Insults were like the song of the distant, endless lands, and so they did not bother her. To say that she was not hurt would be a lie, but it was a pain she could bear with.

Horror, she did not quite feel. Chagrin and regret, those she had thrown away when she decided to take up the sword, and they never returned.

She did not like being dragged around, and so she walked straight forward. Unconsciously, she touched her breast, where the cross she had been relieved of used to be. With her pillar of the heart gone, she felt somewhat sorrowful. An Englishman who seemed to have thought of that, ran up to her and presented what seemed to be a makeshift wooden cross. Thank you, she said in gratitude, and he fell to his knees, tears running down his face. Though there were those who slung abuse, there were also those who were crying.

If insults were the song of the distant lands, then sorrow would be the lullaby a mother would sing.

Her hands were then tied behind her back, onto the tall wooden pole. The bindings were tightened with great force, so as to make sure they would never slacken, it seemed. There was no turning back now, she thought.

When the bishop finished with his recitation of the Last Judgement, the torches were thrown in all at once, and the flames began to lick at her feet, bit-by-bit. To those who believed that the erasure of the physical body was the greatest fear of all, this would be the harshest punishment.

The flames scorched skin, charred flesh, and burned bone. Over and over, they chanted the name of God and the Holy Mother.

―Your prayers are a lie.

Countless times she had been accused thus, countless times she had suffered abuse. Yet, she could never understand it. After all, there were no lies nor truth in prayer. Prayers were merely prayers, they did not change depending on whom or what you were praying to.

She wanted to tell them that, but no voice came to her throat. What had flashed before her eyes, was a scene from the past. She had been from a rustic village and an ordinary family, and she was a fool for throwing that all away.

Was she truly a fool? ...Indeed, she might have been one. After all, she knew that from the very beginning. She herself knew better than anyone else that this would be how it'd end.

―If she had looked away then, then she would never have met her end like this.

That's right. The sound of that voice stopped her ears. If she had abandoned the grief of the soldiers whom were likely lost, then she could have lived an ordinary life, have an ordinary marriage, and continued to live with her husband and children. That was the future she had, and she knew it.

However, she had thrown away that future for a different one.

She chose to take up the sword, to clad her body in armour, to bear a standard, and ride on horse-back to the front lines of war.

―She knew that this end would come, didn't she?

She knew. She surely knew. That as long as she continued to fight, someday, this day would come. Hence, it was inevitable that she was called a fool. But, the one thing she would not permit, was to mock herself as one.

"Even so, there were lives I saved. I was not wrong... to have chosen this path."

The scene from the past, the impossible future, and even the harsh reality, all of these were dispersed into nothingness before her prayers.

Merely prayers, merely sacrifices. Even if people told her she had been wrong, and insulted her, at the very least, she would not betray herself.

She regretted naught, and she had no longings, for the future down the road. All she wanted, was to lay in peace.

Despite being at the centre of such a brutal, gruesome scene―all that dwelled within her heart, was an honest, pure and selfless prayer, free of regret.

―Dear Lord, I give my body to thee―

Those were her last words. As her consciousness came to an end, she was released from her mortal coil.

Her dream will end, and reality would show itself. However, it had not yet ended. Indeed, the girl's dream had come to an end, but that of La Pucelle would start from then.

It seem Type Moon cut another servant from Fate/Apocrypha. It might sound disappointed but let’s not go through all that disappoint because I think it has something to do with some servants were cut.

Let see who exactly will appear in Fate/Apocrypha by 100% confirmed:

Black Faction:

Siegfried (Saber)
Vlad III (Lancer)
Chiron (Archer - someone from Beast Lair forum translate and confirm this is true, the mysterious green hair servant is your new Archer. I though ancient golden arrow was refer to Atalanta but Chiron has golden arrow too.)
Astolfo (Rider)
??? (Caster - Solomon Ib Gabirol [?]. Confirm by translator from Beast Lair said he summon golem, another typical caster who can summon monster. However, this is not sure 100% because in Red Faction was unlisted Caster too. That mean Shakespeare or Solomon was actually Rouche’s servant due hint of that she call “Sensei” is actually servant, not human teacher or whatsoever.)
??? (Berserker - The Ideal Human catalyst, sure does familiar with this hint, It’s actually Frankenstein but I can’t confirm this if Frankenstein was really there without evidence like official character art or light novel cover art to proof that.)
Jack The Ripper (Assassin)
Red Faction

Mordred (Saber)
??? (Lancer)
??? (Archer - Atalanta or David has 50% will make appearance. *Look at wild guess theory section*)
??? (Rider)
??? (Caster - Shakespeare or Solomon, both are confirmed but not sure which one Caster who side in Red Faction.)
Spartacus (Berserker)
Semiramis (Assassin)
That’s leave Karna, Atalanta, David, St.George & Frankenstein has 50, 60 - 100% chance, minus Benkei and Kintoki were cut by official confirmation.

Wild guess theory?:

Atalanta make official appearance in Type Moon media “Fate/Extra” manga. If she were cut in Fate/Apocrypha, I doubt we will see her in Fate/Extra CCC but regardless that make appearance in manga doesn’t make 100% she will be appear in Fate/Extra CCC because it’s kinda soft of non-canon plotline, Its like Character A is make appearance in both VG and manga and Character B is make appearance in manga only from both are same series. If David were cut, this same goes like what Atalanta’s situation is or 100% officially cut, just stay there in Fate/Material, never debut in VG, manga or LN, ever.

What about Karna? He make appearance in Fate/Extra CCC.

Well, I guess we wait and see what happen. As if there is another new servant who replaced F/A’s servant again. So yeah… I bet Karna’s situation same as Atalanta except he is officially debut. Of course, I bet Benkei and Kintoki (If St.George and Frankenstein were involve by anything goes happen) will appear in Fate/Extra CCC too? Who knows….

Just my two cent right there.

^ I hope they keep Atalanta at least, her design was always one of my favorites among the Apocrypha servants.

Not really sad to not see Karna showing up here. Don't really want another broken character a la Gil in here (ugh)

Anyway, I'm pretty sure the Gold and Silver ranks refer to the difference in the level of reverence and fame attached to each to their legends. I mean aside from the fact that Siegfried's legend puts him in a central role and a major driving force in his legend (while Mordred is only semi-important character in Arthurian lore at best), there is also the fact that Siegfried's tale shows him accomplishing many fantastic and impossible feats and by the end he is seen as a tragic and heroic figure, while Mordred's is most famous for his betrayal against the knights of the round table and the rebellion against Arthur. And how he us seen as being a traitor and a cowered in his final moments.

Which honestly makes Mordred even less of a silver saber, or a heroic spirit for that matter but whatever.

1. are the sabers in this male or female

It's ... both. The Black Saber is male, while the Red Saber is female (sorta)

2. why is one team filled with the member of the some mage family, i thought only 1 representative from each mage family could participate?

The premise for this war seem to be different from the Fuyuki Grail War, and also the Ygdramillena (or however that is spelled) family are actually comprised of different magi from different families who came togther to try and break away from the Mage's Association and be their own thing.

3. is this shirou who's a master emiya shirou or not and if it is is his servent saber arturia?

No idea thus far, seems to be a different person (and if this is actually a parallel world to the /Stay Night-verse, Emiya Shirou wouldn't exist since he wouldn't have lost his parents in the fire and Kiritsugu wouldn't have adopted him etc.)

4. why is jack the ripper london's most notoriuos serial killer and rapist a girl?

Same reason why the King of the Britons and his son are also girls.

5. where's gil and ekidnu weren't they in this story?

I think you might be confusing this with the other Fate novel, Strange Fake. That's the one with Gil and Enkidu.

6. when does this story take place?

Presumably after the Third Fuyuki Grail War.

florza

It takes place after the Third Holy Grail War; they refer to it as a 'sham', an imitation.

Should be the Clock Tower faction hiring freelancers vs the Yggmillennia faction.

'El-Melloi the Second' and 'Bram Nuada-Re Sophia-Ri' are two of the leaders of the Clock Tower faction.

I think this is a parallel world to canon, like Fate/Extra, and I find myself somewhat eager to see Shirou as a Master once again.

But overall I have conflicting feelings about Jack the Ripper. On one hand, I pity her backstory. On the other...she's Jack the Ripper, an infamous killer...that devours human soul now.

Still, I give credit where its due. Her former Master, who got what he deserved, had the right idea on surpassing the limitations of the Assassin Class.

I'm pretty sure it's a parallel timeline at the very least; the Holy Grail was stolen from Fuyuki in the third Holy Grail War; the text states that the Holy Grail War was no longer able to be held; the Fourth Holy Grail War would have been held ten years ago from the current time in Apocrypha.

Which really doesn't make sense if you've played Heaven's Feel, since it's not exactly something that can be stolen as far as I can recall. Not to mention the number of people who would even know about the Greater Grail should be limited to basically the Matou, Einzbern, and maybe Tohsaka.

The Yggmillennia 'stumbled upon it' at Mt Enzou during the third War, got the Nazis they were siding with to help them move the Great Grail, then they double-crossed the Nazis midway and made it seem like it was 'spirited away'. The three families were too exhausted from fighting and got defeated when they tried to stop those dang muggers.

That's about the gist of it.

TLDR version: Some baka gaijins showed up all gangsta-like and made off with the Grail.

Here's some more translated stuff from beast's Lair:

A perculiarly empty patch of land formed on the field of battle. However, nothing stepped within that space. Be they homunculi, golems, even mindless dragon tooth warriors, they understood that this one place was the pit of Hell. They would be senselessly shattered if they were to step inside.

Only those chosen -- only Servants possessed the right to exist there.

-- Even now, two Saber Servants stood there.

On the one side was a silver knight whose small frame was entirely wrapped around by thick armor, making it one single mass of steel. Due to the face-covering helm, the knight's race or gender was completely unknown. Its weapon was a silver sword adorned with splendid decorations.

On the other side was a tall man surrounded by an unusual air. The greatsword he held with both hands, like the sword of his opponent, boasted a magnificence and enormity possible only for weapons which had been tended to by inhuman hands. The green jewel embedded in the hilt stood out in particular.

The color of their swords were silver and gold respectively, and while their shapes differed, both weapons had a brilliance worthy of being wielded by heroes. However, this battle was impossible. The era of swords had announced its end ages ago. Firearms ought to be the conquerors of the battlefield.

In that case, were they barbarians left behind by time, only existing to be mocked by the bearers of firearms?

No, that would be all the more impossible.

" -- Here I come, Saber of Black!"

Gold answered the call of silver.

" -- Come, Saber of Rot!"

In an instant, the 'Red' Saber leapt with lion-like roar. The knight's stomp shook the earth, and the speed of the charge pierced the sound barrier. This jump was due to a skill the 'Red' Saber possessed called Prana Burst. By instantaneously releasing the magic power carried by one's arms or in one's flesh, the knight rushed forward with a momentum much like a bullet's, and swung the weapon with ease despite its overlarge size.

The force of the jump blew away the remains of golems and warriors which had fallen to the earth. With such speed, such destructive power, even the strongest land weapon of modern war, the main battle tank, would be pulverized.

-- However, while the leaping knight was one not of the ordinary, the opponent was also an existence who had reached the domain of demons.

With a fierce warcry reminescent of a massive dragon, the 'Black' Saber, golden greatsword in hand, took several steps forward. Not hesitating in the slightest at the enemy charging towards him at incredible speeds, the sword he held aloft was swung down.

If one were to call the silver onslaught a bullet, then what came to intercept it was a high-speed golden giullotine. Steel clashed with steel, and the impact destroyed their surroundings to an absurd degree.

"Ha! That was weak, Saber of Black!"

"Kuh -- !"

Steel masses and fighting spirits clashed, and sparks flew. There was no pity, no hatred, only powerful wills who would deny the existence of the other, and the whirl of utter joy found in facing a powerful enemy. Ever since the start of this war, their swords had already crossed ten times. Subconsciously, the 'Red' Saber's cheeks drew into a smile.

Neither of them were supposed to exist in this world in the first place. They were the corporeal forms of extraordinary human beings who had left their names in history and made legends. Heroes whose names did not disappear even after their deaths but continued to live on in the hearts of people, they were known as Heroic Spirits, and the two of them were the duplicates of such -- 'Servants' who materialized in this world to follow another.

Their thirteenth clash -- and immediately after, the world became silent. Their weapons not shattered, their flesh not scattered, the two knights displayed an equilibrium that could even be called elegant, their swords continued to be locked with each other. At first glance, it was clear that the 'Black' Saber held the advantage in terms of physique. The difference between him and the 'Red' Saber was practically that of a man and a child.

However, it was in fact the golden knight who was being overpowered -- and it was the silver knight who overpowered him.

The reason was, as before, the Prana Burst skill. This time, the silver knight was not using magic power to charge forward, but to augment physical strength. Right now, the 'Red' Saber was like a shell with its fuse lit and about to be fired.

"Uuooohhh -- !!"

The 'Red' Saber -- the silver knight stepped forward, its foot crushing down into the ground, and gave a spirited roar.

Unable to withstand it, the 'Black' Saber was blown backwards, but as expected of a hero, he only jumped back and did not roll around clumsily. His knees did not give out, and his expression did not change.

The sword of the 'Red' Saber was thrust forward. Even with the mask, one could tell that the low chuckle emanating from the helmet was dripping with scorn.

"And you call yourself a Saber, one who ought to be the 'greatest' amongst Servants? What a disappointment. Or perhaps this is as far as a fake can go?"

"......"

The 'Black' Saber became quiet. Certainly, as the 'Red' Saber said, he was a fake Heroic Spirit. There was no way for him to match a proper Heroic Spirit like the 'Red' Saber.

Even so, that did not mean he could admit defeat. To save the fallen comrades behind him -- willing or no, he had to fight.

" -- O sword,"

The 'Black' Saber chose the best course of action to bring down the enemy before him.

"Let thee be filled."

His voice was detached. Without a single change in expression despite the incoming death, the 'Black' Saber so announced. The greatsword held above his head began to overflow with an orange light.

"So you would release your Noble Phantasm... ha, very well!"

The 'Red' Saber muttered with a growl. There was no trace of urgency in its tone. A Noble Phantasm -- it was the ultimate weapon of the Servant, something that activated by chanting its true name.

It could be something which simply had incredible destructive power, or something with a special property of always penetrating and killing the opponent once released, or even something that's not a weapon, but the strongest of shields with a speciality against thrown weapons. There are as many Noble Phantasms as there are legends.

And of course, like the 'Black' Saber, the 'Red' Saber also possessed a Noble Phantasm.

" -- Well then, my Master has given me permission. Allow me to respond in kind!"

The 'Red' Saber took a stance with the silver sword. At the same time, the heavy face-covering helmet split into two and became one with the armor.

Their eyes met. The 'Black' Saber raised his eyebrows a little, as though in slight surprise. But of course, for the 'Red' Saber had the face of a small girl. Normally, Servants were summoned in the form of their peak. As such, most heroes were in their twenties and thirties, their prime. However, this 'Red' Saber was clearly too young. It was likely that she hadn't even reached twenty.

Besides, the fair features of the girl did not conceal her brutal nature -- rather, she did not bother to conceal it in the first place. In her eyes, glaring fixedly at the 'Black' Saber, there was a mix of the joy found in battle, and cruelty.

"...Why did you remove your helm?"

'Red' answered the question of 'Black', sounding irritated.

"It's nothing, I just can't activate my Noble Phantasm without taking it off first. Do you not have less trifling things to worry about, 'Black'?"

In an instant, the space centred around 'Red' Saber and her sword became stained with blood. What's more, the blade of her sword was enveloped by a radiance of blood and, giving off bizarre sounds, began to transform.

Of course, this was not the original appearance of the Noble Phantasm. The pure, beautiful and famous sword was being transfigured, by her wanton hatred, into a sinister and wicked blade fit to be wielded by a demon.

"It's time for your execution. Come, meet an end worthy of an imitation, Saber of Black -- !"

'Red' Saber raised her grotesque sword.

It was clear to any who saw that it would be a killing blow --

"...I come."

'Black' Saber, just as before, stood and faced her directly without any hesitation. Whether he had a winning chance or not meant nothing to him.

-- It needed to be done.

'Black' Saber understood that. He was not risking his life, because he had no life to risk to begin with.

The orange light and blood radiance swelled instantly. The whirling air around them screamed, letting all around them know that the two Noble Phantasms were completely released.

They were truly the swords of legend. They thundered, as the stuff of dreams, phantasms which killed enemies and pierced demons in the hands of heroes who raced over the fields of battle.

In their hands were swords, they were both Saber-class Servants -- and they were both enemies which the other needed to defeat.

"Clarent -- " (Rebellion --)

'Red' Saber raged.

"Bal -- " (Phantasmal Greatsword --)

'Black' Saber bellowed.

"-- Blood Arthur!!" (-- Against My Beautiful Father!!)

"-- mung!!" (-- Downfall of the Sky Demon!!)

Twilight and red lightning raced out and crashed into each other. The two flashes of light, like surging waves with simply the purpose of destruction, attempted to swallow one another.

It was the most unlikely scene possible in history as written by man. It was a clash of two deadly Noble Phantasms, from two heroes who were born in different eras and flourished in different lands.

Light filled the surrounding area and annihilated everything around them. The golems and warriors crowding around them were overcome and faded into dust.

Everyone who witnessed this majestic, unrelenting scene swallowed their breath. The space filled with crimson and orange seemed as though it was declaring the end of the world.

However, all stories must have an end. The light that had only swelled began to calm, and disappeared like specks of dust.

The ground where the two had stood was a tragic sight to behold as well.

Imagine a butterfly spreading its wings. Such a mark had been carved into the ground. It was the trace of an explosion, so enormous it could be seen even from far up in the sky.

How many people would be able to believe that such a trace was left behind by the slash of a sword? It was certain that a new legend had been born today on this land.

The impossible clash between the legendary holy sword and the anomalous demonic sword gouged out the earth.

What decided the battle between them was not their technique, their power or the respective qualities of the Noble Phantasms. The Noble Phantasm released by 'Black' Saber spread a wave of twilight in a semicircle centred around him.

On the other hand, 'Red' Saber released a straight line of crimson lightning from the tip of her sword. What decided the battle was the special traits of their two Noble Phantasms, and the distance at which they chose to take on their opponent. If 'Black Saber' had been a few steps closer, the battle might have gone differently.

In any case, the victor and the defeated were determined. One Servant had fallen. The other was on one knee. 'Red' Saber, on her knee, stood up while shaking with shame.

Filled with intent to kill, she glared at the fallen 'Black'.

"Why are you still alive...?!"

The Noble Phantasm was a weapon which ensured death, and at the same time, a source of enormous pride. Its true name having been released, it would be a matter of honor if it did not kill its enemy. And with a Noble Phantasm crowned with the name of her father, the King of Knights, it was not pride to 'Red' Saber but closer to a sort of grudge.

Thus, to 'Red' Saber, the sole fact of 'Black' Saber being alive was unforgivable. Continuing to grip his sword would earn him her hatred. That he would raise his head and even attempt to stand up was something 'Red' Saber could never accept even if she could slash him apart a hundred more times.

Intense pain racked her body, but it would be no obstacle to any act of battle. Having used her Noble Phantasm to such a degree ought to have exhausted an incredible amount of prana, but her Master was exceedingly competent, so much so that she had the strength to move immediately after using her Noble Phantasm.

"Don't you move, Saber of Black. I, and nobody else, will be the one to kill you...!"

She would lop off his head, and run her sword through his heart. It was a privilege only allowed for her.

The 'Red' Saber took a step forward.

"Saber of 'Red'" is Mordred, right? Wasn't the previous image of her (sorry, but no matter how much she proclaims to be a dude, dudes don't wear tube tops) one that had pink hair? Granted, blonde hair makes more sense (and sticks with canon), but I guess that means she dyes it at some point?

Also, her general look and demeanor remind me of Cal from Phantom.

After checking TypeMoon Wiki, yes. I thought he had been labeled as a Saber previously.

D-don't tell me it's Karen ... :uhoh:

That's probably likely. However, if so it means he likely wasn't raised by Kirei, but rather just took their family name (I guess because they have a higher social ranking), meaning we'd see Shirou as he would've been without Kiritsugu's influence.

Or, they could have just come up with a reason for his family to die and he gets adopted by Kirei. In which case he'd probably act more like Karen than Kirei anyway, since Kirei didn't go total Sadist/Troll until meeting Gil, which wouldn't have happened here.

though this shirou is still the same shirou but different events happen to make him this because its a different timeline and i'm surpried nobody's mentioned how much he looks like archer now maybe this is the timeline in witch he became a heroic spirit

What? Who made Astolfo cry? :frustrated:

According to initial translations, his wife is for him as sister.

Wait, are we talking about:
A sister of the church?
Ilya?
or Karen?

And if he had a different origin, he won't have UBW, will he?

He forgot the name of his Noble Phantasm.

Currently nothing is definitely confirmed. Anything is possible.

Yeah without Avalon and the events that led to the 5th grail war where he participated he shouldn't have UBW.

I noticed it too, but it can't be that timeline. One, he had Avalon and gave it up, which means two, he had summoned Arturia. Neither is the case here.

Yeah without Avalon and the events that led to the 5th grail war where he participated he shouldn't have UBW.

Assuming they actually stick to canon, yes. But there's nothing that says he couldn't have done this (the skin and hair color changes through overuse of mana) in some alternate way.

Well if he has Executor training then he probably has some kind of magic he excels at. It would be interesting if he had a different kind of reality marble though.

We can't have Shirou Kotomine have the same personality as Shirou Emiya, so if he's distorted somehow he'd need to be in a way we hadn't seen coming. But for now, let's see what has has in store for us...

But seriously, SHIROU KOTOMINE?
How did this happen? If the fourth war never happened then Shirou should be living with his parents since an Uber-Fire didn't burn them to ashes.

He probably joined the church at an early age and later on was adopted / married into Kotomine's family. I'm 80% sure his wife is going to turn out to be Caren.

Also you don't have to be distorted to have a reality marble.

we dont know that for sure it could the same shirou but a different timeline version of him, and it could not be but if it isn't than how would you explain his archer like appearence?

Overuse of magic, that is easily explained. And we know it's a different timeline version of him. That's already confirmed. It's a different timeline where Shirou wasn't orphaned by the fire and didn't have Avalon shoved inside him which changed his origin to Swords. Also not raised by Kiritsugu who wouldn't have any reason to pick up some random kid since he wouldn't have even been in Fuyuki without the 4th grail war.

Shirou took the last name of his adoptive parent. We know it's not Shirou Emiya in the sense as it is not the same timeline, but at the same time it's an parallel world and a parallel representation of the being that Shirou is.

It's like how Fate Stay Night, Fate Unlimited Bladeworks, and Fate Heaven's Feel are alternate worlds (scenarios) where the sequence of events are changed slightly, the question is this:

What led to the creation of this being known as Shirou Kotomine?

How do you know it's confirmed? No seriously just because someone has the same name as someone else doesn't mean they're the same person. I'm named after my grandfather, actually my entire name is exactly the same as my grandfather's entire name, but we certainly aren't the same person. So what real clues are there that this Shirou is an AU version of the person who would become Emiya Shirou in the Fuyuki Grail timelines? Has there been mentions of Shirou Kotomine being born in Fuyuki for instance?

Yeah they're really going to throw in a Japanese master named Shirou who looks almost exactly like F/SN Shirou and have it be a different person entirely.

So, I heard that
Siegfried dies in this 1st volume because he transplanted his heart to the Homunculus

Is this true? It kinda feels pointless to summon him if it is.

Anyone know what Shirou real name is?
As far as we know his real family could be Kotomine family...
(Sub family.)
(Emiya Shirou is not his real name.)

Worth mention:

Apparently Homunculus receives the heart of the real Siegfried, but why and what it means is still a mystery at this point. Which mean Homunculus is real Siegfried's master.

Of course especially:

the Prologue is actually the last battle between the Homunculus and Mordred, and the story of Apocrypha is a retelling from Homunculus’s side.

The Red faction is basically a bunch of freelancing bounty hunters with established notoriety hired by the Clock Tower, with the exception of the guy from the Church and the guy sent by the Clock Tower.

Dat Astolfo ... why were you born a GUY!? I'm afraid I might get away from the straight path again!

Dat Semiramis! Why you so sexy!? now I can walk down the straight, yet S&M, path again.

And, just a question ...
I heard Vlad-sama clashed with the Spartacus dude with Ex rank endurance, is that right?
