This thread is meant for Total Eclipse/Muv-Luv fanfiction and its discussion. Fanfiction works can be either posted in this thread or in the Fan Creations Forum (http://forums.animesuki.com/forumdisplay.php?f=14) and linked to in this thread. You may also link to Fanfiction works posted on other sites and discuss it here.
General rules of our forum (http://forums.animesuki.com/faq.php?faq=rules) still apply:
No sexually explicit material. Yes, this goes for text format as well.
Be polite to your fellow forum members
Have fun, but post intelligently
Please respect the authors, fanfictions are written in their free time, they have have no gain and owe you nothing; if they like a particular character and/or a particular pattern for their story, it's a personal choice and can't be blamed. In general, you are free to post constructive criticisms but not insults which (as in any other part of the forums) won't be tolerated. Remember that writers post here to get help and not to get troubles.
Thanks and have fun :)

Interestingly, I've gone one already. And so does the ASOC Project from OCC Studio. This universe is pretty cool for mecha fans, and even more so when said fans want some gore. :D

One of the main elements of Muv Luv that makes it so prime for Fanfic fuel is it's essential premise of transferring characters from a lighter, softer, more idealistic world and genre like Muv Luv Extra, into the grim nature of Muv Luv Unlimited and Alternative.
It is very prime crossover fanfic fuel. There are plenty of characters in animes with much more lighter themes, from Rom-Coms, Slice of Life and certain variants of Shounen, often derisively labeled moe blobs and Generic Harem protagonists. Placing such characters into the world of Muv-Luv extra would be a brilliant exploration of these characters- clearly, some would fare better than others, some may even do better than Takeru, while some would die very, very fast.
It would be an interesting exercise, for example, to imagine if the cast of Slice of Lives such as Yuru Yuri or K-on were a tightly knitted squad Eishi pilots instead, circa 2010, in a Post-Alternative Fanfic. And then, the bodies start piling up, one by one. Or, put a Male Protagonist of your choice, from the same genre as Extra as the sole male in the squad, surrounded by his harem, and imagine how character dynamics would change as a result of being born in the world of Extra.
Another interesting scenario would be to throw your pick of Harem or Shounen Protagonists into the world of Alternative in place of Takeru, and see how they fare, as a form of character comparison. Victims may include the likes of Makoto from School Days, who'd likely get Om Nom Nom Nomed, to the likes of even more competent protagonists such as Keima Katsuragi or Negi Springfield. In the middle of these two extreme scenarios would be the likes of Kodaka from Hagani.
The third, more general Category would be to pit the BETAS up against other Mecha Universes or Sci Fi Universes, like Code Geass. A Human-BETA war on a more even technological footing might be a fascinating exploration. A grim and dangerous enemy, but not the hopeless war of Alternative and Unlimited.

But then you also must realize, considering what the BETA are, if the BETA start to actually think that they are in trouble, there is a possibility they'll call for help from combat-oriented strains, or even their masters. More despair! Yay! :heh:

I'd like to see how Macross Frontier VFs and Gundam Unicorn mobile suits fare against the BETAS.

Actually, frankly speaking, any SF verse which has space ships and orbital fire will RAPE the BETA.
VFs... depends on the era. From Plus onwards (post-2040),Valkyries were equipped with pinpoint barrier systems, which could intercept enemy fire - I can see them using those to deal with laser BETA. Saturation Itano circus would work well enough once all the lasers are clear. Ditto for Gundam Unicorn, given that they've got antibeam coatings... well, on the hero suits, at any rate.
One thing to remember though is that any verse with spaceships can thus deliver orbital fire. BETA, as I recall, home in on silicon and other electronics - or at least assign those targeting priority. Which is all find and well to intercept MIRVs... not so much use against a wave motion gun fired from orbit, or kinetic energy weapons, which are essentially metal shells fired down at high speed, causing destruction by the force of their impact.
In fact, if we're talking about a verse, Stargate SG-1. SG-1 would wipe the floor with BETA. A BETA incursion will not happen on SG-1 Earth, what with the small fleet of BC-304 battlecruisers they have and their precision teleporter tech. Wanna take out a hive? Teleport a nuke INTO the hive and watch the fireworks. Or fire railgun slugs from orbit into the BETA formations. That's not accounting for the Dakara superweapon either.
And last, because it has to be said: When you absolutely need to cleanse a continent of BETA, accept no substitutes. Deploy a Bolo. "Honor of the regiment."

I personally crave to see Turn A and Turn X massacring the BETA. What I'm curious about is what the rest of the BETA or their creators will develop to counter such machines.

The creators of the BETA are a prime example of a race that would make it to the top of the Deathwatch's "Xenos that need to die badly" list along with the Incubators, really.

The BETA are the equivalent of resource collectors for a space-faring civilization, obviously they'll be easily dispatched by anything capable of remotely contacting their masters.
What makes the BETA dangerous to a external SF universe, like Stargate or Macross, is the dangers of attracting the attention of their masters, who are at such a level of development as to require at least galactic-scale resource extraction to sustain their civilization.

I think even the Reapers would be better a match for Kyuubei. The BETA? They are just Scrin by another name, pitted against a foe even less prepared than NOD.

Hmm, let's say theoretically, that the BETAs invade the Madoka Magica world, at around the same time they did in Unlimited/Eclipse. If this is the post - Ultimate Madoka world, odds are, the losses to the human population and Grief Cube production would be unacceptable. Just how much damage can Puella Magis deal to BETAs alone? Or will we possibly see far more advanced TSFs by 2000, thanks to subtle Incubator technological transfers?

The main problem here is that while the lot of you guys know about the BETA, there doesn't seem to be much to go on about their creators, which is obviously the bigger threat here. Frankly we don't know just how advanced their tech is compared to the puny things gunking up what's supposed to be a routine resource-gathering operation in an isolated backwater. They could be as advanced as the Vorlons or the Shadows for all we know.
That said, given a situational vacuum, depending on whether these creators even have a centralized homeworld or system... I'd like to see a BETA Creators vs. Tyranid Hive Fleet Leviathan. Just because.

On a more down to earth and less speculative front, I wonder what would it be like if various characters from similar genres to Extra, and normally upbeat genres like Slice of Life shows were placed in Muv Luv.
Certainly, I think the Muv Luv Universe would clearly demonstrate that there is great diversity in both personality and competency among the so called "generic Harem protagonist" class of characters.

Certainly, I think the Muv Luv Universe would clearly demonstrate that there is great diversity in both personality and competency among the so called "generic Harem protagonist" class of characters.
As an illustration of this point, here's an example of how a crossover with a harem Protagonist in the world of Muv Luv Alternative might play out.
It was first posted on Spacebattles by Atreidestrooper
Hmm, that makes think of an idea I once had. Though I am not really qualified to post this idea, as most of my Muv Luv knowledge comes from the Japanese Wiki of Muv Luv Alternative(a rather extensive wiki, to it's credit), and numerous Japanese fan fics.
A Muv Luv Saito summoned into Halkeginia by Louise-thing.
Saito Hiraga, Captain of the United Nations European Army 13th Tactical Surface Fighter division, who has just lost his squadron.
And it looks like he is next on the enemies' menu, his Tactical Surface Fighter(Muv-Luv Alt-Verse's mecha) being a scrap heap with the amount of battering it has taken.
Saito, while not given up the fight, sees his situation as futile anyway. Radio Chatter consists of pleads and screams of agony, and the tactical map shows so much red.
He flips the self destruct button, determined to use his life to kill the bastards that took his unit, his comrades, his one love.
The resulting explosion wipes his consciousness out. Black.
But he comes to, hearing a voice he wished to, and at the same time feared to, hear.
"Who are you?"
The voice of Captain Louise Valliere, that noble Knight who he loved so much, and who he had lost when she sacrificed herself to save him.
That day, years ago, had almost broken his will to go on. He could not stop mourning, that smile of reassurance haunting his memories.
The last words before the Data-link failed; "I saved you." Words that continues to haunt his dreams.
And she does not know him.
Oh, is that Guiche, his wingman and best buddy? And there is Kirche and Charlotte, the duo whose teamwork and ferocity in combat was admired even by the best Aces in the division?
Guiche, who died saving a new pilot who lost it and charged into the enemy. The new kid was a lost cause any way, sent back to the hospital with PTSD.
Kirche and Charlotte, both loyal to each other to a fault, had distracted the BETA long enough to call for artillery bombardment. They didn't survive, but the bombardment bought precious time.
Saito endured all of their deaths, because it is the way of the TSF pilot to remember and live, to survive.
They don't know him.
Then he meets Siesta, who in Saito's home world was the Command Post officer who was the last person he spoke with before flipping the switch.
The girl, who, in her mock attempts at seducing Saito had caused the fair and noble Captain to act like the girl she was inside, and was the one who supported Saito after the Captain died.
She was also a fellow survivor, keeping the memories of the dead alive with her.
She does not know him either, but greets Saito in the same, warm manner as She did when Saito first joined Captain Valliere's command.
I think this is the point Saito breaks down.
Because for all their differences of social standing, manners, speech, and ideals, he sees his comrades in arms.
He still sees them.

Yes it would be 10 years too early to lose the people who will give rise to Madoka.
And I'd think that we'd have super-robot-esque TSFs, because a scientist made a contract with Kyubei, like the many girls in history before her.
But really, guys, MuvLuv works by itself. Filling the whole first page with xovers is starting off the wrong foot!
Guess I'll post a short soon. I'm dealing mostly from the COSEAN perspective.

Heh, I've got an idea for a mini-series also dealing with the COSEAN perspective, specifically a small team of Malaysian pilots with a new girl who thinks she's shit hot, a Sergeant who's on the brass' shit list, and an Only Sane Man CO who is fervently grateful that ANZAC has arrived, as it means he can go and beg them for spare parts for Malaysian Hornets.
This is intended to be sometime in the early or mid-90s, before COSEAN standardises to the Super Hornet.

Kha, Beta are currently in South Thailand. How, exactly, did they suddenly jump emerge in Johor, which is quite far away, especially with the Australian and Philippine Navies are preventing BETA from breaking out from Vietnam?
Now, if you can answer that without too much handwavium, you're off to a good start. ;D

Take the Ace Combat games, replace all the aircraft with TSFs. I bet that there will be very little changes, if at all, in their stories:heh:.
Imagine the TSF equivalents of the FALKEN, Morgan, and Wyvern; especially the former two with their Tactical Laser Systems :D.

Hax. Great wonderful hax. It's about time the BETA got a taste of their own medicine. XD ^____________^ That said, I'm pretty sure the Takemikazuchi is the closest thing to the Wyvern.
Mind you, had Mobius One been among the UN forces around the time of 12/5, he would have wiped the floor with everyone. Unless Walken is supposed to be Mobius One... nah, not enough steamrolling over everyone.

Exactly what he said, I was reading about BETA classes as I too was trying to explain how the hell did I dream about BETA in Johor, or why this squad I was watching was fighting off slightly-larger-than-human-sized BETA, when I noticed the Carrier-class.
I also added a "new" breed of BETA called Catapult-class, which are gigantic BETA that create spores that can hold 1 Laser or similar size BETA, 3 Tanks, or 12 Soldiers, then shoot them in a long LOBM arc and allowing some BETA to leapfrog over garrisons and harrass supply lines. These have a very slow firing rate, so while it gets some BETA over, they are only in smaller numbers and in more manageable sizes.

Part 1 of 4. Beware: Uses OCs and take some liberties with regions, though I try to justify as best I can.

Bow not before despair or loss and tread with great confidence upon the deathly frost that covers the Earth, for there is no greater honor than to sacrifice and that sacrifice shall be rewarded in Valhalla.
- Wolfskull motto
1st Norway-Sweden Joint Operations Support Division (1st NSJOSD)
Under the authority of Norway and Sweden, with the upper powers lying within the UN, NSJOSD operates within the northern regions of Scandinavia and counts the Finnish and Russian sister divisions as close allies, due to their close distance to one another. Throughout this cooperation, a few bases has been established in the region to combat BETA onslaughts coming from the Hive in Rovaniemi.
The effectiveness and value of the bases has been questioned since most of Scandinavia has already been overrun by the BETA, making simple logistics a nightmare, but the decision is defended by the political arms of both countries, stating that they refuse to abandon their nations without a fight.
NSJOSD 32nd Flight WF-0 (Wolfskull/The Wolfskulls)
The 32nd Flight WF-0, nicknamed “Wolfskull”, is a tiny unit consisting of only four people and with one purpose in mind: Reinforcements. Whenever a larger squad in the region needs reinforcements in the face of overwhelming BETAs, Wolfskulls are the ones sent out to assist. Their JAS-39 Gripen TSF and JA-37 Viggen TSFs, specially designed for the Scandinavian landscape, are able to swiftly bring them to their destination and at the same time assist with substantial firepower.
A ragged and childlike illustration of a wolf’s skull sewn with a white thread on a grey background hang above the entrance that Captain Alicia Ek walked through. Behind her, clutching a stack of documents in his arms, followed 1st Lieutenant Bjoern Johansen. Both of them, with a slight hint of dark bags below their eyes, wore the standard uniform of the UN, and from the base of Alicia’s neck up to the edge of her hair the top half of a fang tattoo could be seen in black and red ink.
The sharp end of it pointed upwards, partly covered by her blonde hair, and a red blot covered its roots.
It was an unofficial mark of the Wolfskulls; a rite of passage reserved for those that had already tasted the sweet bitterness of a fruitless war.
To say Alicia’s face radiated a positive light would have been far from the truth as she sat down in the brown leather sofa with a sneer, the upper left part of her lip curving upwards. She leaned her head backwards and gave a deep sigh.
“The others are just jealous,” Bjoern said with a hint of a grin. “It’s not normal for someone here to pilot a Gripen.”
“I know,” Alicia said, twirling away at her hair with a finger. It was one of those things she did without noticing, especially when she was annoyed. “I wish they hadn’t given it to me, to be honest. Now I’ll have to deal with ‘oooh’s and ‘aaaah’s. I could do without that.”
“Come on. It isn’t so bad. Your old Viggen was falling apart! The alternatives weren’t that great, you know.” He put the documents down on the table and took a seat opposite Alicia. The green sofa, newer than the other, groaned from the sudden pressure. “Besides, what’s wrong with a little attention?”
“Jealousy breeds dislike. Dislike leads to problems. Problems, well...It isn’t good, that’s all I’m saying.”
“Is it Eric?”
“Partly, but not just him. I’ve gotten some glances from others as well. A glare or two is enough to make them look away, though.”
Bjoern chuckled. “You have to be careful with those glares of yours. You’ve been given them out quite a lot recently.”
“I have?” Bjoern nodded and Alicia swore with embarrassment building on her cheeks, mixing with her annoyance. “I thought I had gotten rid of that habit.”
“Well, no matter. It’ll fizzle out eventually, trust me. It always does.” An eyebrow raised, he scratched his dark beard which covered most of his face. On the side of his neck a slight hint could be made of the tattoo. ”Though, speaking of Eric, where are those two?”
“Here,” a voice said from the doorway. Alicia looked over as Katrine and Eric entered, the latter of which took a seat next to Bjoern while Katrine, in all of her stoic apperance, remained standing with her arms crossed, leaning against the wall. As usual, her expression displayed either boredom or arrogance. Alicia still hadn’t decided which one.
“Wolfskulls assembled, then,” Bjoern said.
Taking it as a cue, Alicia rose and stood by the end of the table. Behind her there was only a white wall with nothing on it but a single, old picture; that of five TSFes standing side by side. Of the four in the room, only one of them were in the picture.
“We don’t have much time,” she began, ”but I’ll give you the details before we sortie. Twenty minutes ago, a distress call came in from a TSF unit pinned down in the north, about forty kilometers off. Command wants us to extract them.” She picked out a document and read from it. She hadn’t bothered to memorize the part, seeing how the brass hadn’t bothered to install the electronic equipment for briefing sessions. “The unit is called ‘The Silver Axes’; a Black Ops unit appointed the task of investigating suspicious BETA activity on the Norwegian border. The details say they were on their way home when they suddenly dropped off the radar, until the distress signal was broadcast.” She paused, looking each of them in the eye. “This is highly classified, so this doesn’t leave this room.”
“What if someone asks?” Katrine said.
“Then say it’s just an ordinary mission. Invoke my authority if they press it.”
“Who would be dumb enough to press it?” Eric asked. “They should get the point anyway.”
“I don’t know, but low-level spies are still possible. We might be allies with the other countries, but that doesn’t mean Command want to share everything.” She shrugged and put the paper down. “To me, it would be better if they would share.”
“Nature of man.” Bjoern shrugged. “There’ll always be conflict. Even when the world is pretty much dead.”
“It’s stupid,” Katrine said, a frown across her serious face.
“Isn’t it just?” he replied, smiling. Katrine looked away with a sneer. Bjoern’s antics weren’t for the serious type, which Alicia had admitted to herself a long time ago. Katrine was part of that type. The days the two of them looked similar on things had yet to arrive, despite the fact they worked together in combat.
“Any questions?” she continued, hiding her amusement. Katrine raised her hand. “Yes?”
“How long will this mission take?”
“I don’t know, it depends.”
“A rough estimate?”
“Can’t say.”
Katrine sighed and hung her head, eyes closed. “I hope it won’t be long. I need a vacation.”
“You can have vacation in hell when all this blows over,” Alicia said, her good mood gone. “Anymore questions?” Silence told her there weren’t, which was for the better. She wanted to get a move on. “Alright. Suit up and get ready to move out.”
*
It took them less than ten minutes to get into their reinforced suits and assemble in the hangar, standing at attention with their TSFs towering behind them. The machines, three of them JA-37 Viggens and one with a more edgy look a JAS-39 Gripen, had been recently cleaned and repaired, and it showed in their metallic hull; the unblemished surface shone, reflecting the light of the spotlights hanging from the roof. From a distance they resembled gigantic discolored marble statues with streaks of black and yellow at their joints, mechanical monuments of art trapped in a box of concrete. Yet, they were nothing more than machines meant for death and destruction.
Or redemption and salvation depending on who you asked.
Five minutes had passed, Alicia’s patience wearing thin, when they were approached by a British man - followed by a young woman who Alicia deduced was his aide - emerging from another entrance; Colonel McDouglas. While short, reaching up to Alicia’s eyes at best, he carried with him an authority few she had met ever had. It wasn’t for nothing he had been assigned command of the entire base.
At that fact, she chuckled to herself, just low enough so the Colonel wouldn’t hear. The UN had needed to send someone to take over the base, and they had chosen someone from Britain instead of assigning someone used to the area. His authority, she figured, must have been part of it, and though she had an odd sort of respect for the man from the start, she doubted he actually knew how to fight in a winter landscape. Politics would be politics, one of the few things that remained constant even after the End.
“Captain Ek,” the Colonel said, shaking her hand. He didn’t offer it, she’d noticed; it was like a silent order by pure will. You shook it, whether you wanted to or not. “I’m not used to commanding a set of soldiers so unfamiliar to me as you are... But I have great trust in you that you will succeed in this mission. Especially after seeing your track record.”
“Thank you, sir,” Alicia said.
“Though I have to ask; where did you get the name from? ‘Wolfskull’... it rolls off the tongue. Do you like wolves?”
“It’s a long story, Colonel.” And she didn’t feel like telling it.
“Ah, I see. Though, I’ll be happy to hear it while having a drink or two. Once you ‘Wolfskulls’ get back, I’ll treat you to a few. How does that sound?”
“Sounds splendid, sir.”
“Great!” The Colonel nodded to himself, slapping his palms together. “I won’t keep you any longer. Go, Wolfskulls. Bring me back my team.”
“We will, sir,” Alicia said and saluted. Turning on her heel, she and the others left the Colonel as he turned their back on them - with his aide chattering in his ear - and approached their TSFs. The silence seemed to linger a bit longer than usual and Alicia had a hunch why.
Eric broke the silence with a chuckle once they were out of earshot and ascending in the lift. “I can’t believe he invited us for a drink.”
“He did,” Bjoern said, grinning. “I wouldn’t count on it, though.”
“Why not?”
“He just says that. Besides, if we fail there’ll be hell to pay.”
“Enough chatter,” Alicia said as the lift stopped and opened its gates. “From here on out, let’s be serious.”
The others nodded, turning serious as if her command actually worked, and they boarded their machines. The hatch closed behind Alicia and the TSF powered up, flooding the cockpit with red light. The ambient hum that always accompanied it filled her ears. For a long time she had considered it a soothing song before a mission, sung by electricity. It accompanied her as she went through the routine pre-flight checks. Soon, the entire squad was ready.
The permission to launch came shortly afterwards, their machines tearing into the raging snowstorm. Deep within the white blizzard, only the deafening roar of their engines betrayed their presence.
*
A few hours later, Wolfskull had made good distance towards their objective. Though their instruments provided them with the information they needed, not being able to see through the storm with the naked eye made Alicia nervous. Instincts were screaming at her that the weather conditions were not optimal for what they were about to do. The mission had too many parameters that could go wrong. The snowfall didn’t help alleviate that fact.
She had no say in the matter, however, she steeled herself and focused on the task at hand, shaking off the more worrisome thoughts. It wouldn’t help her one way or another if she brooded.
“Captain,” Bjoern said, his video feed popping up, “Around twenty minutes left to the destination, if we keep this speed. A bit faster than anticipated.”
“The wind?”
“Yes. It’s stronger than we thought and it’s blowing north.”
“It’ll be a problem on the way home,” Katrine said, another video feed appearing. She sighed. “Longer and longer missions.”
“Unless it turns,” Alicia said and checked her radar. Katrine’s whining about the length of missions still annoyed her more than it should have. A tiny thing, considering the situation but she still wished Katrine could shut up about it. Tiny annoyances had a thing for blowing up in time. “The snowfall is breaking up a little. WF-02, scout ahead. I don’t want any surprises once we get over that ridge ahead.”
“Roger that,” Bjoern said and his TSF boosted forward, just enough to propel him outside Alicia’s field of vision. As the Storm Vanguard, keeping him in the front was the logical thing to do, but if he ran into trouble, they would be slow to react thanks to the weather.
Then again, Bjoern didn’t much care about it. Alicia had seen what he could do and that’s why she could focus.
The minutes passed slowly. Alicia spent the time checking the intel that she kept receiving through the external net, a constant stream of data hooked straight into the base’s data center. None of it made her worry worse, though it still asked more questions than it answered on a larger scale. The situation in Europe, and then especially where they were, had worsened again. It wouldn’t take long before the Rovaniemi Hive would grow too big for their military forces to handle and they would all be overrun, much in opposite of the belief that the whole region was already lost. The fact that Scandinavia had suffered catastrophic losses, yet retained control of some parts of it told her they still had the fighting spirit to pull through.
The question was whether they had the manpower to make use of it.
“Captain.” Bjoern again. “Beacons up ahead. We’ve arrived.”
“Wolfskulls,” Alicia said, readying herself, “Group up and get ready to engage.”
Bjoern waited for them at the bottom of a ridge. Once he joined them again, they all jumped as one atop of the ridge. On the other side they could see a low valley, the pings on her instruments told her the beacons were close by somewhere within it. The snowstorm around them let up in intensity and things came into view.
A battlefield filled with slaughter lay before them as far as they could see, filling the valley with destroyed TSFs and bodies upon bodies of BETA. Thousands of them laid sprawled in their own intestines and blood, lifeless and still. The sheer silence made a shiver run through Alicia’s spine, but what stood in center of it all made her disbelief spike.
On the ground, that was now colored red instead of white, stood one lone Gripen amongst a heap of BETAs. Its Flugelberte axe lay buried into a Destroyer-class that gave off a last shudder as the TSF pulled the axe out, blood dripping off its blade. That same blood covered the machine’s armor from head to toe, the usual whiteness so typical of a Gripen hidden under the gore.
“What in the...” Bjoern said, almost breathless. “It’s alone?”
“No.” Alicia pulled up the other beacon on their radars. “There are two beacons, though different. BC-03. That white TSF, though...”
“SA-02,” Bjoern said, disbelief clouding his voice. “We found them. Or that one, at least.”
Alicia connected to the Silver Axe TSF and an ‘Audio Only’ prompt appeared. She could hear heavy breathing on the other side. “SA-02, this is WF-01. What is your status?”
The TSF’s pilot said nothing at first. It lowered its Flugelberte and slowly turned to face her, its right side coming into view. Though heavily damaged, its metal bent and scratched, it didn’t seem to impede the machine in any way. No fuel came from the damaged pipes that had been ripped in half underneath its hull, an indication that the fuel had been cut off at those parts. The machine as a whole, though, whined as it moved. Its movements were awkward and unnatural.
“An ambush,” its pilot said. Male, Alicia concluded. It wasn’t panicked or strained as she had expected. Unnatural calmness. “They killed everyone but me.” The machine turned and glanced in the direction of the other beacon. “And her. I saved her.”
“Just you two?” Alicia asked, a bad taste in her mouth.
“Just us.” SA-02 chuckled and sighed. “Died like bugs. They didn’t stand a chance. Too weak. They shouldn’t have been here.”
“Alicia.” Erik’s screen appeared, his face stern. “He’s acting weird.”
“I know,” she replied. “PTSD, I think. He might be dangerous. Bjoern, go and check on BC-03.”
“Roger that.” Bjoern’s TSF got into motion and moved ahead toward the overhang where the beacon was sending from. He managed five steps before SA-02 slammed into him, knocking him to his side in one swift strike. The ground rumbled as the machine fell over and SA-02 raised his axe.
“What are you doing?” Alicia shouted and raised her weapon to aim at him. Eric and Katrine did the same. With three weapons pointed at him, SA-02 froze, as if considering the situation. The moment lingered for a while, Alicia’s heartbeat rising through her throat. She cursed herself for relaxing. She should have seen it coming.
The axe was lowered and SA-02 repositioned himself between Bjoern and the beacon with a small jump. “No one approaches her but me,” SA-02 declared. “No one so much has touches her!” To clarify his point he raised the axe straight out from his body, creating an imaginary line. It stayed there, at the ready.
A low ping in Alicia’s cockpit told her the other TSF had established a connection to her machine. She opened it and met the eyes of a horrified young girl on the screen. Auburn hair lay strewn across her pale face, but as far as Alicia could see she was unhurt.
“BC-03?” Alicia whispered. She knew no one else could hear her, but she did it anyway.
The girl nodded. “Svetlana Bakhtin, ma’am.” Alicia was impressed that despite her appearance, the girl could remember how to speak so clearly. “It’s as SA-02 says, but he’s gone insane. He wasn’t like that before.”
“I can see that,” Alicia said, lowering her weapon. Though she felt he was still a danger, keeping the weapon aimed at him seemed like a fruitless ordeal, though she remained weary of him. The others had their weapons aimed at him anyway. “Can you operate your TSF?”
“Yes, ma’am.”
She heard a groan of metallic steps from behind SA-02, and though she expected him to argue he said nothing as Svetlana’s TSF walked out from the overhang. Alicia had expected it to have sustained some kind of damage, but its armor was undented. It didn’t even have any splatters of blood on it. It was a clean MiG-29 Lastoshka that came to stand a little beside SA-02, though it still lacked any sort of weaponry. Alicia wasn’t all that unfamiliar with the model, but though she had heard the girl’s name, she was still surprised to find an actual Soviet TSF stood before her.
“Wolfskulls, lower your weapons,” Alicia ordered. They did so, though Katrine lingered a little too long for Alicia’s liking. SA-02 relaxed his stance as she stood down, lowering his axe.
“The BETA will pay,” he said, gesturing towards Svetlana. “If you intend to take us back to your base, then do so. However, I will protect her with all I have. If you try to stop me...” He went silent and weighed the Flegelbarte in his hands.
“I get your point,” Alicia said. “Still, do you have a name? You might be Black Ops, but I doubt it matters much now.”
A heavy sigh sounded through her speakers. “I have no name no more. I am beyond names. I am now only known as Nidhogg.”
“Nidhogg?” Alicia asked. The name meant nothing to her. It sounded silly. The whole situation felt silly.
“Your ignorance baffles me,” Nidhogg said and marched off. “We need to move. A new BETA wave is coming from the East.”
“Johansen!” Alicia said, startled by Nidhogg’s statement. She’d had no warning about it until now. All her instruments and even the intel were quiet. Or was he trying to rile her up? If he was, she’d--
“He’s right,” Bjoern said, much to Alicia’s chagrin. “I don’t know how he detected them but I’m seeing them now.”
“Instinct. I can smell them.” Nidhogg chuckled. “Their smell is quite special.
Alicia ignored him and hissed through grit teeth; “Wolfskulls, let’s go.”
*
Nidhogg was faster than all of them, though he waited for Svetlana to catch up when they fell behind. The six of them kept a tight formation as they jumped over the hills and mountains, Svetlana being in the middle. Normally, Bjoern would be in the front, but arguing with Nidhogg felt like a waste of their time. They couldn’t afford that delay. Instead she kept her eyes peeled backwards, focusing on spotting the BETA through the thick wall of snow that surrounded them. Thanks to the storm that had started up again, it provided them with enough cover to render Laser-class BETA close to useless. The TSFs were even moving faster than usual because of it as they didn’t have to take it into account.
“So what, or who, is Nidhogg?” Eric asked. Alicia paid him no mind, though she wished he wouldn’t talk. As his officer, she could tell him not to... but she had to admit she was somewhat curious herself.
“An ancient dragon,” Nidhogg said. “I’ve seen it when I slaughtered the BETA. They are afraid of it. It eats from beneath until nothing remains. I feel a kinship with it.”
Eric didn’t reply and remained silent. Alicia, while not stunned, shook her head in disbelief and suppressed a laugh.
“The BETA,” she said. “Are they any closer?”
“Negative, ma’am. They can’t keep up with us. The terrain is too rough and this snow is just enough to hinder them a bit.” He paused. “I am, however, seeing some intel about weird movement further ahead of us. It might be nothing.”
“Or it might be BETA. Understood. Keep your eyes open, Wolfskulls.”
As soon as she had said that, she contacted Svetlana. She still hadn’t received a weapon as they couldn’t spare any, but if she showed any hostility because of it, she didn’t show it. Her expression was calm when it appeared on the feed. “I need you to tell me what happened,” Alicia said. “I don’t trust SA-02, though I can’t help but feel he has some truth in him.”
“He’s telling the truth, ma’am. I was part of a small Soviet quad in Norway when we got a request to head home. SA-02 was part of the squad that was designated to escort us.” She paused and swallowed hard. Sweat had broken out on her forehead. “We got about thirty clicks from the base when they first hit. The snow was too thick and our radar was acting up. We didn’t see them coming. Half of my squad was killed, but we got through that. There were still some left of us and all of SA-02’s squad remained.”
“The Silver Axes,” Alicia said.
“What?”
“SA-02’s squad.”
“I see. They never told us their real name.” She swallowed again. She shivered a little, barely noticeable. “We got another twenty clicks before we ran straight into them. It was a slaughter. I couldn’t do anything. I fired and fired but it didn’t seem to do anything. They just kept coming, taking us down one by one. They just wouldn’t stop.” She paused again. It took several seconds before she began again. “I was the last one left standing when I could see clearly. Machines lay everywhere, ripped to pieces. The ground wasn’t white anymore.
“A BETA charged me and knocked me down. I honestly believed that was it... But then SA-02 swooped in, knocked the BETA off and cut it in half. He went on to repeat the process on a whole group.”
“And did he say anything during it?”
He laughed.” She shuddered again and closed her eyes. “I don’t want to hear that laugh again. It was something out of this world.”
“Nidhogg’s laugh...” Alicia murmured.
“What?”
“Nothing. Thank you, Svetlana. I’ll leave you alone now.”
“Thank you, ma’am.”
The connection was cut and Alicia returned her attention to the others. Throughout their chat, their formation and speed hadn’t changed. They landed, recalibrated, and jumped again once the computer gave the command to the rest of the TSF’s body. Her input, while still there, was so small during cruising that she could take her mind off it. Her body worked by itself.
“BETAs incoming!” Who said it slipped through her mind as she saw the horde moving straight towards them. The snowfall had lightened up a little, and just as she realized that, lasers cut through towards them. The bolts of light streaked past her too close for comfort, shaking her around just enough to make her lose her bearings. It took her a moment to correct the error.
“Status!” she said, checking the Wolfskulls’ heart rate monitors. All of them looked clear, which made her draw a sigh of relief. She had slipped up again.
“We’re fine,” Bjoern said. “Just a bit surprised. They slipped under the radar somehow.”
“Damnit. What’s wrong with it?”
“No idea. And I don’t think it matters right now. The first Destroyer-class will be here soon.”
“Wolfskull, form up on me,” Alicia said. “Put SA-02 and BC-03 at the back and form a crescent around them. Keep moving low until we get a shot at those lasers. We can’t move out until they are destroyed. No reason to kill everything.”
“What about Nidhogg?” Bjoern said on a private channel.
“Ignore him. If he runs off, let him.”
“Roger.”
They completed their formation and Alicia saw the first BETA race over the hill, a white cloud of snow trailing behind them. On her cue, she, Eric and Bjoern opened up with their GWS-9 Assault Cannon, opting for their 120mm cannon function, ripping the Destroyers’ armor to shreds, while Katrine fired a flood of 105mm bullets from her Mk. 57, demolishing the smaller BETA that accompanied the rest. Once the first that still lived reached them, they jumped to the side as one tight group and kept firing. With the Destroyers out of the way, the Laser-classes had a free shot at them, but Alicia ordered the Wolfskulls to move behind the ridges, denying the BETA a window of opportunity.
The rest of the horde, filled with Grappler- and even more Destroyer-classes, flowed from the hill above them. The Wolfskulls responding by throwing more gunfire at them, starting to move one by one, providing cover fire for each other. It sped up their own movements while slowing the BETA enough to create a gap between them, though Nidhogg seemed to move beyond the others, jumping all over the place. Their normal maneuvers for a battle such as this had been thrown out the window the moment Svetlana had joined them, and so they fought in a non-standard way to protect her, and to take Nidhogg into account.
When it came down to it, Alicia didn’t bother to order Nidhogg around, opting to ignore him as she had told Bjoern. He did a good job anyway, picking off the stragglers that got through their relentless onslaught. She started to believe in his insane ramblings and Svetlana’s account did help her to reinforce that belief. Perhaps he was useful after all and not a danger to them as she had first thought. Including him in their ranks, after a very thorough psycho-analysis of course, would substantially increase their combat effectiveness.
While the battle raged, Alicia started to draw up new tactics in her head, judging from the way Nidhogg was moving related to the rest of the Wolfskulls. She didn’t see any particular patterns or any sort of order; a mad dog fighting. If she could convince him, she might--
The rest of the BETA traversed over the hill and Bjoern received a glancing hit as the Laser-classed appeared. His TSF spun from the impact as it cut his right arm, making a big chunk of the metal melt, disfiguring the already old and batter Viggen. He retaliated by facing them with his other side, firing more bullets. It seemed to be the answer to everything in their current situation.
“WF-02, fall back,” Alicia said while shooting down several more BETAs advancing on her position. “You can’t fight like that.”
He started to say something when Nidhogg stroke past him at high speed, pushing him out of the way, heading straight for the BETA, his jet engines flaring with a mad blue color. Bjoern stumbled before regaining his balance and faced the way Nidhogg had gone. The video feed showed his astonishment and surprise.
“Return from where you came,” Nidhogg said on their comms, voice booming. “You cannot hold here, you’re too weak.”
“What did you say?” Katrine growled.
“What are you doing?” Alicia said, anger flaring in her mind. Once again she changed her opinion of him. She tended to do that a lot, she noticed.
“I can’t stand by and watch,” Nidhogg said. “These beasts are mine. Take Svetlana and bring her home. I dont want any interference from you.”
“We can’t let him do that, can we, Captain?” Bjoern said. “The brass would be quite pissed if they find out.”
“And you suggest dying here?” Eric said, jumping in. “Let’s just get the fuck out of here.”
His outburst brought Alicia to the edge. Gritting her teeth, she said; “You two, shut up! SA-02, get the hell back here. You can’t do anything by yourself here.”
The TSF, still drenched in blood, stopped a fair distance away from them and turned around, its damaged side showing. Behind him, the white cloud of snow created by the amassing BETA still roamed the horizon. Then, SA-02 for the first time since they had met him, changed his voice to something akin to a normal human; “I can.”
The machine burst off the ground launched himself headfirst into the advancing BETA. One Destroyer-class splattered into gory bits as he chewed through it with his Flugelberte, breaking up those following it. Another Destroyer split in half, spilling its contents over the snowy ground, but Nidhogg didn’t stop to look. He continued his mad dash through them all, cutting and slashing each and every BETA he could reach. Though a tornado of pure death and mayhem, it didn’t take long before they had him surrounded, providing him with easier targets as he barely needed to look where he hit. A laughter began to mount through their comms, slow at first, building into a crescendo of madness.
At the same time, the BETA’s advance had slowed. They were distracted, looking away from the others.
“Captain,” Bjoern said. He seemed hesitant, weighing his words. “We can go back now.”
“And forfeit the mission?”
“What mission? The Silver Axes were killed in action.” His TSF faced hers. “See the logic, Captain.”
Alicia sneered and looked back down at SA-02, his laughter reaching its climax. Body parts were flying in all directions and the ground was a dark shade of red. SA-02, a blur of swift strikes and slashes, moved back and forth at a ludicrous speed, still dodged anything the BETA threw at him.
Yes, she admitted, she saw the logic. But in her position, she just couldn’t jump at it.
“And Svetlana?” she asked. “How do you explain her? That we just happened to stumble into her?”
“It isn’t that far-fetched,” Bjoern said, turning to face Svetlana. “Or what do you say?”
The girl’s face appeared on the video feed and Alicia noticed she had calmed down substantially from last time. Her face had regained its color and in her eyes she saw determination. “The Silver Axes extracted me and my squad. Then we got ambushed and I was the sole survivor.” She paused. “Thanks to Nidhogg. I think that deserves mention.”
Bjoern and Svetlana both faced Alicia and waited for her decision. She, in turn, didn’t put up much of a struggle. The alternative was to go and help Nidhogg, which would in all likelihood get them all killed. Then again, if someone were to find out what they had done...
“Alright,” she said and sighed. Rueful grins spread across the faces in the squad on the feed. “We’ll go back.”
The group of five turned away from the battle, leaving Nidhogg to fend for himself. Before his radio feed disappeared due to the snowfall and low hills, she could hear the creaking of metal in the background while his laughter drenched out everything else.
Once they were a few minutes away, moving at a high speed over the surrounding hills and through the thick forest, Alicia felt a pang of foreshadowing. She turned slightly, looking back. In the horizon from where they had come from, a strange light filled the dark evening sky.
“Land, now!” she shouted and dove, crashing into the ground hard as the machine had no time to soften the impact. The others landed right next to her and Bjoern opened a comm link to, what Alicia guessed, ask what the hell was going on. Before he could get a word out, a howl drenched everything out as the shockwave from the nuclear explosion roared past overhead, shaking her machine as if an earthquake had erupted beneath them. The electronics within the TSF flickered, a brief spike of light blinking on and off, before it all went dead.
With her heart in her throat, the shaking remained for a few seconds before subsiding. Hearing only her own breathing, she initialized an emergency reboot. The TSF’s systems came online, a few errors demanding her attention, and the ambient sound that always accompanied it returned to fill her ears.
“Status?” she said and waited. No response came, though she could see the others lying beside her, unmoving. Her heart beat faster in her chest. “Wolfskulls!”
“Here,” Bjoern said, his TSF rustling to life. “I’m alright.”
“That hurt,” Katrine said and moaned. Alicia saw her TSF flip over on its side and tried to stand up. “Shockwave caught me in the back a little.” She paused. “Thanks for asking.”
“And WF-03?” Alicia said.
“Up and ready, ma’am,” Eric said. Trees had been thrown to ground around them, lying in heaps and splinters. Some of them had landed on Eric, who now threw them off. “Somewhat.”
“Svetlana?”
“Here, ma’am.”
“Good.” She couldn’t help but smile a little as her TSF stood up. The others were waiting for her, their machines facing her, and her heart had resumed its normal beat. Relief washed over her. “Nidhogg did a hell of a job. Wolfskulls, set destination for the base. We are going home.”
*
Daylight broke when Alicia’s TSF landed on the grounds right outside the base. Four more thumps told her the others had arrived along with her. On the runway, vehicles were already approaching them; ambulances, maintenance crew, transports. The trucks made best speed towards them, expecting the worst.
She opened her machine and stepped outside to stand on the edge of the towering TSF. She hadn’t been outside for two days and the cold wind that stroke against her cheeks welcomed her if in a hurtful way. It stung, just as the rest of body did as it protested her sudden movement.
“Refreshing, isn’t it?” Bjoern said. He sat on his machine, legs crossed and eyes closed.
Alicia nodded and eyed the crew that had arrived while they approached, not the Wolfskulls, but the Soviet TSF, first. It didn’t surprise her and she was glad she didn’t have to tell them. Svetlana, though she had retained her calm from earlier, was led out of her TSF with a helping hand and brought to the ambulance that had arrived. Alicia noted that though she had seen the girl unhurt on the video feed before, the truth was another. On Svetlana’s right thigh ran a long tear through the fabric of her bodysuit, and a long gash of dried blood had clotted it up. The pain must have been immense, but she hadn’t uttered a word about it. Her respect for the Soviet woman rose as the doors closed and the ambulance drove away.
Alicia let herself be winded down by the internal lift and regrouped with the Wolfskulls on the ground; Katrine, looking tired and pissed, Eric, with a small gash over his left eyebrow and a small strain of blood next to it, and Bjoern, who seemed to have injured his foot, noticeable by the way he was walking. Amongst them, she realized that only she herself had sustained no injuries apart from a bruise on her forehead.
It was both a bitter and sweet feeling at the same time.
“I think this deserves a few days of rest,” Bjoern said, switching his stance back and forth. “Preferably with a visit to the bar.”
Katrine snorted. “Days? Try a day.”
“Is it really worth a toast?” Alicia said, eyes hopping between them and crossed her arms. “We failed our mission.”
“Still on about that?” Bjoern smiled. “Well, whatever. I wasn’t planning on toasting.”
“Just drinking?” Eric said.
“Yeah.”
Alicia shook her head, put her hands on her hips and laughed. “I’ll join you, Bjoern. Truth is, I’m tired as hell. Besides, I might have a surprise for you in the fridge.”
“Oh? It isn’t what I think it is, is it?”
She turned on her heel and started walking towards the base. The others followed. “I heard it smells...”
“Oh for fuck’s sake,” Eric said and moaned. “She’s taking out the surstromming.”
Bjoern blinked and then succumbed with laughter. Before his laugh died down they had entered the base, trading the bitter cold outside for a welcoming warmth on the inside.Gdocs link for easy-to-read format https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Nz9keePRA1zt8WJPBVtDLsgamc_zaN3nWWdTqdtnqBM/edit

Interesting idea. Just some quibbles:
IIRC the self destruct charges are non nuclear, and just some really powerful conventional explosive.
Four is a decent cast for you to follow, but it seems a bit small for a fire brigade team that's running around and putting out fires.
What year does this take place in?
Other than that, it's an entertaining read, though I can't help but wonder what happened to the Silver Axes untill Niddhog snapped.

I left this ambiguous as I didn't want to collide with potential timeline errors. Seeing how they use Gripen and the like, I'd say somewhere 2001-2002.

don't worry, it happens to the best of us. First ever time i started making OCs and worldbuilding for Nanoha, i had tp do a LOT of revisions. This is fine. ;p
Yea, it was mostly cause I don't like handling huge casts. Not much I can do about it right now.
What I'd suggest is that you may want to have more units assigned to fire brigade duty. Have maybe several flights of four or eight TSFs on rotating duty to run sorties and fire brigade, Wolfskull are slightly unique in that their primary tasking is fire brigade,(possibly due to attrittion), as four TSFs is below the minimum 8-12 that you'd want deployed on a combat sortie to maximise your chances of survival.
Have occasional mentions of them, perhaps, but the main focus and viewpoint characters are Wolfskull, so of course they'll be less concerned about their fellows and more concerned abt their unit. What with the tattoos and their actions, I'm getting a feeling of a group of have survived a fair bit, and believe themselves elite, a cut above from the rest.
Of course, the simplest reason is that Wolfskull are the reinforcements because most of the time there's no one else left to send out.
I left this ambiguous as I didn't want to collide with potential timeline errors. Seeing how they use Gripen and the like, I'd say somewhere 2001-2002.
Note on the timeline.

MuvLuv: Comet (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8361806/1/MuvLuv_Comet)
An interesting AU fanfic. It's a "What If" scenario where America takes a more active role in combating the BETA during the late 1990's. Yuuya joins the US Space Force, David Anderson is the US Secretary of Defense and Commander Shepard was Yuuya's flight instructor!

How would mobile suits fare against the BETA ?
Depends on the era and if they have anti-beaming coating. Main problems with Mobile Suits, they are somewhat more sluggish than TSFs. They could more or less better effective against the BETA due to their weapons but logistics will be a nightmare.
Well if talking UC, conventional MS weaponry starts with 120mm machine guns. Probably not that effective against Destroyer armor. You put in beam weaponry and beam sabers and I am sure they would be carving up BETA for lunch. But again it depends on era/AU.

Yeah, I think X-1 Destroy could be more than a forminable opponent for BETA horde.

The fanfics i ve read being a SRW Alpha 3 crossover. In that particular fanic, the author generally have the UC era gundams do good against the BETA until they run out of E-packs on their beam rifle, or when their head vulcans run out of ammo and they get swarmed by Tank classes. Seed CE era Phase-shift can survive the tanks quite well provided their batteries last. I-field are somewhat weak against lasers since BETA lasers are not Minovsky particle based beams. after colony wing series Gundams can survive the lasers class for a bit due to the insane heat resistance of the Gundanium alloy it helps that their pilots are all god tier experts in hit and run. Macross Valkyries do well in there Gerwalk mode since they all have unlimited flight time plus unrivaled 3 dimensional maneuverability in tight spaces allowing them to hover over the BETAs and dance all over the place. Evangelions are pretty godlike against the BETA clasees with their AT-fields but if exposed in the open where thousands of Magnus LUX lasers can target them, then their AT-fields will collapse just like when the evas fought Ramiel.
Orginal generation units like the R-series and other OG original units also do pretty good in close quarters due to all of them using tesla-drives and other various EOT Balmar, T-link technology that lets them maneuver without obeying the laws of momentum and conservation of energy.
Also "Real men ride each other"= BETA pwnage. Zankantou that cleaves evil and Trombe over ride, I ain't gona explain shit.
There is just so much shit in this fic its ridiculous. sadly its in Japanese, though someone did translated into Chinese as well.
The fic in question is called Muvluv: to the end of the galaxy.
It crosses muvluv unlimited+TDA with Post SRW Alpha3 Cobray route. The author try to use some"realisim", such as many of the weapons and attacks are not allowed to be used while within or around earth(you can guess which ones.) its post final mission true end in @3 after fighting off Keisar Ephes that when The alpha numbers attempted to jump back to their original time space with the power of Irui Gun-eden and Ideon that they got sent to the Muvluv unlimited TDA verse instead . So almost all units are damaged to some degree or outright unusable and running low on ammo after the Keisar ephes fight. Of course many of these repairs and resupply will be difficult or straight up impossible to acquire in muluv earth.
For the MLU side, its after the evacuation of the colony ships but before the global G-bombing phase of op Babylon. Takeru gets meiya's 00R repainted in black. the valkyries and 207 are around but disbanded and spread out all over the world. Marimo is back to being a major in the IJA and eventually gets her own battalion affiliated with the UN curiously named "Wardog" battalion which will get many members who we are familiar with from the various TDA and chronicle side stories. Also the Americans are scheming something huge with the the arrival of the alpha numbers. Cobray and Dis Astragant choose to TIME DIVE into extra before Time diving again into Alternative.
the following is the translated teaser i did using various quotes from the Fic for /m awhile ago. see if you can guess who is saying what.
"All right gentlemen, Imperial Japan have given us permission to enter its airspace. The Ra Cailum will now enter condition red. Torres, disperse Minovsky particle at combat density and time the firing of our mega-particle cannons with the Archeangel's Lohengrin cannon. The eastern beach head of Sagoshima will be cleared before we deploy our Mobile suit teams. Amuro, Kamille, Burning, are your teams ready?"
"Shinji the BETAs are not allowed to breach the main gate on the No.2 runway. Assist the The A-01 the best you can."
"Got it, they will not harm the Xg-70 while Unit-01 and I still stand."
"ughhhh.. this is so retarded....why does baka shinji gets to sit on his lazy ass while we are litrerally knee deep in these disgusting BETA. these beta just keep coming out of that tunnel , just how many are there and wtf is that rumbling. Ayanami? are you listening to me Ayanami? Oh God! what are you doing with that N2 Mine?! Rei Are you fucking insane?! WE ARE IN A TUNNE-------------BOOOOOOOM" (later an offical UN investagation was ordered on the alpha # for what is believed to be an unsanctioned illegal use of an nuclear weapon within the vicinity human settlement, the alpha number representative Taiga Kohtaroh was quick to point out the difference between N2 and traditional nuclear weapons.)
"Mission acknowledged..... Target lock..... Magnus Lux swarm.....show me their fate Zero."
"Tomoro 0117 activate ES-window and raise J-jewel output to 30%. Those who wish to steal the joy of soaring freely in the skies are my enemy, anti-meson cannon prepare to fire."
"Not bad,not bad. you guys certainly live up to the name Valkyries. "
"What do you mean Lt.... Isamu Dyson was it? Is there a unit named Valkries as well where you are from ?"
"Not exactly. This baby i m using here is called a Valkyrie type fighter. Technically This one is a VF-19"Excalibur" and Valkyries are the first or VF-1, though somehow everybody where i m from ended up calling them all Valkyries....If you want Lt Mitsuki i m sure i can teach you to be a true Valkyrie pilot after we are done here"
"Isamu! we are in combat what are you doing chitchatting!"
"Jesus, Guld can't a man have a nice conversation with a pretty lady in peace."
"I'm telling Myung...."
"Why does that senju.. i mean gundam remind me of Meiya?"
"What the! who just launched !? i did not give any permission to launch yet."
"I'm sorry Captain, its Basara and Sivil... we couldn't stop them. He said he wanted to sing...."
"Are you telling me they have a 70KM warship parked over our heads.and that an even more insane and logic defying group of these people and their..machines.. are clearing the hives on Mars as we speak?"
"yes, they said they did something they called a route split."
also yuuko destroys her office in rage like 18 times from just even trying to understand the various bullshit workings and energy source of the various SRW units. The real type she could somewhat understand and rationalize their theory, but stuff like the Ide, Getter ray, J-jewel/G-stone, Tetragrammaton and other Super-Robot Not!Magictek science makes her want to blow her brains out.

MuvLuv: Comet chapter 4 is out. (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8361806/4/MuvLuv_Comet)
There is another MuvLuv fanfic i enjoyed reading but i immediately dropped it after the latest chapter. But if your interested, here it is (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7324349/1/Muv_Luv_Alternative_Chronicles).
I didn't mind if the OC character was way too skilled in TSF fighting or his TSF was overpowered. (It's sorted justified since he's a time traveler from a different dimension) What put me off was the fact they got the Gundam SEED cast joining the fight! Way to ruin the mood dude.

YF-21 is inoperable due to damage. Guld flys in a old F-11 thunderbolt now. the Yf-19 basically rapes betas in tight quarters like inside hangars/tunnels using gerwalk mode to hover and boosting just above most BETA's reach while moving at insane speeds.

With what happened and what's going to happen to the shogun after this battle... well, my guess is that the government itself will change the system. It's kinda long shot, but Ikaruga keep saying the 'new world' so maybe that's what he's really after?
He's been pretty antagonistic in this arc though :heh:

"Affection… such a subtle little word yet its meaning hold so much more" Ikaruga was enjoying every minute of this moment. The reaction that he saw brought him such untold joy that he wished he could experience it again. He can see Yuuhi's mouth forming a frown, her eyes wavering at every word. She felt violated…
Every word that came out of his mouth felt like it was taken from her throat and formed into a perversion kind of language.
"…" But still the Shogun continued to struggle, continued to put on a brave face against a man who can kill her with but a thought.
"Despite everything my father claimed you to be, there is certainly one thing that hasn't changed. Japan thinks of the royal family as a height above them, thinking that we were… demigods… prime examples of a Japanese by honoring our old traditions in every way. (…) But they are wrong. Despite what we've been told, what our children have been taught, there is still one viable error they cannot erase. In the end… Your Highness… you're still a girl. (…!) A human—no different to the animals you see prowling on the streets every day. We feel, we think just like everyone else. (…) But such feelings are denied to us"
"…"
Ikaruga's face drew closer as if he was trying to corner the girl on the balcony. "Tell me. What did it feel like to be beside him? What manner of deed did he do to earn your affection? What kind of man was he to make you show… such expressions? How did you feel when the peasant came to you face?"
Yuuhi didn't want to imagine it but she could not help herself from thinking of the boy. Every tinge of her body was wavering. Her feelings, followed by the fear of this man was becoming close to breaking her face apart. She bit her lip sharply trying to suppress her growl but she was failing.
"Ahahaha!" The man in blue burst a laugh. "This is magnificent. Simply magnificent. It sounds like something out of a fairy tale. A princess falling for a dog unmatched of her status. Of all the men in the world…you chose a brat whose standing is of no value to you or your country. It's like comparing a bird to a mere rat that breeds in droves in the sewers! I cannot even begin to understand you. AHAHAHA!"
In that split of a second, a switch was flipped from Yuuhi's mind. A dam burst from her deep subconscious pouring all the rage that she had been holding back. Like a tsunami it swept over her body drowning all the logic she had built to keep herself from acting. All sense of reason faded from it and acting primarily on those lesser instincts, her hand moved up against the man's face, causing a sound that silenced everyone else's thoughts in the room.
Slap!
Ikaruga didn't even see the blow coming when he felt the pain seeping across his cheek. It was so fast that he couldn't even find time to dodge. It was the same slap that Yuuhi delivered to Takeru during the coup but this time… she meant every sense of the action.
"That's enough!" The guards felt a chill run down their spine at the yell of her voice. Even Ikaruga who seemed so composed earlier could not help but be still, a horrified look replacing his face.
"Y… your highness…" The Grand Chamberlain who has been with her all her life never once saw so much anger and hatred burning from the girl. It radiated so much that it may have killed a small animal.
"I said… that is enough" Yuuhi continued not taking her eyes off her mark. "I will not allow you to insult him anymore…" The killing intent she was resonating could be felt around the entire room, choking the very air that they breathed.
Crowning Moment of Awesome for Yuuhi.

Honestly, I'm not really keen on all that, particularly as I've felt that the more you have to macgruffin things, the less believable your story becomes. For an example, the Dark Knight Saga is pretty much a standard superhero movie, but it takes pains to reduce the wackiness and MacGruffins, and instead try to be as grounded as it can, which makes for a more believable experience compared to earlier Batman movies.

So I abandoned my fic for a while and then decided to get back to it. It's been expanded with a small prologue and the first chapter has been slightly rewritten to fit the prologue, along with some polishing, so I'm reposting it. Chapter 2 is basically done as well, though it hasn't undergone any beta'ing.
I acknowledge the prologue might have benefited from another PoV... but as I have other projects to focus on I need to finish this one in its entirety.
The final chapter should be done soon-ish.

Except that TSFs don't use screens for display of HUD and outside views.
With that said, the kind of contrivance that would have to go into an Imperial Royal Guardsman nobody somehow ending up in or even accompanying a top secret UN task force that only draws from rigorously pre-screened candidates at Yokohama, on a mission where the plan explicitly arranged for them to do it alone, simply boggles the mind.
And TSFs deploying sentry turrets with bombs having yield a third of the size of a standard S-11? The XG-70's main guard unit somehow managing to end up on the "other side of the hive"? Granted, making up virtually impossible scenarios and breaking continuity willy-nilly is kind of par for the course where fanfiction in general is concerned, but.
No offense, it's your fanfiction and you're free to make up whatever you like to contrive your own preferred scenario.
By the way, the first two episodes are, in my opinion, by no means irrelevant at present, but you're entitled to your own opinion on that, since your views are already practicaly on public record at this point, and there is nothing that can be said on that topic that has not already been said.

For simplicity's sake, a tiny holographic(ish) screen beamed directly into your eye is still a screen.
How is Izumi being on the Valkyrie Squad a problem in canon, particularly she has UN connections through Yui and Yamashiro, Yuuhi is vouching for her from the Japan side, and she's in a final offensive mission where the rest of the squad are using exchanged Royal Guard Takemis? And isn't going from the Royal Guard to a special UN team precisely what happened when Yui was assigned to Project Prominence in canon?
As for everything else...
The stuff with Meiya taking longer to get to the core, and the other Valkyries splitting up and getting picked off by BETA, and Takeru being by himself during the home stretch? That's... actually exactly what happens in the game. Chizuru and Kei go out doing the Synchronized Suicide Paddle and take a fuckload of BETA with them. Tama and Mikoto get run over by a Destroyer after they take down a Barrier-class. Takeru didn't even know Tama was dead until the Superior did his "HARR HARR HERE BE MY SOLDIER-CLASS MATERIALS" thing in the core.
btw, I specifically tried to write it so you can assume all of that stuff still happens and Izumi's presence doesn't interfere with the original plot structure. She's basically Mari Makinami, if Mari had been written into Rebuild 2.0 in a way that wasn't character-derailing and retarded.
I think you're testing me because you know I'm a secondary.
DoomRavager
2012-09-04, 03:01
The other side of a barrier does not "the other side of the Hive" make. Meiya backtracked a bit to check on the others and ended up about one room away from Takeru as a result. Communications between the rest of the Valkyries and Takeru while separated became pretty much impossible to maintain thanks to comms disruptions from hive wall dust.
And it is a problem because the plan called for Task Force A-01 making use of quantum computer fuckery to ditch any accompanying US or UN escorts as soon as they get into the Hive so that they could pursue their own objectives, at Sumika's suggestion and Yuuko's endorsement, which should make it clear just how isolated and secret A-01's Alternative IV operations are in general even within the UN, and how Yuuko doesn't want any outside interference. A-01 was using Royal Guard Takemis because the Royal Guard unit formerly assigned to Meiya while she was a cadet and just waiting around to be formally transferred was not able to accompany A-01 into the Hive (Political shit was also involved in this), so they just handed over their Takemis to compensate because the Guards in question personally wanted to increase their chances of survival, with nothing to do with any friendly connections between the IRG as an organization and the UN.
There's also kind of a big difference between a Royal Guard liason sent to oversee a joint US-Japan project under the UN in a position of authority, and a Royal Guard for some reason being attached to an ultra top secret Alternative task force whose identities and operations are classified data with the records continuing to be sealed years after their deaths. You don't get into A-01 with 'connections' and people 'vouching' for you, you get in because you enlisted at Yokohama Base, were screened for 00 Unit potential and accepted, then graduated and transferred straight into A-01.
Also
Tama and Mikoto get run over by a Destroyer
is, to say the least, not particularly accurate, but whatever.
I think you're testing me because you know I'm a secondary.
No, I'm just pointing out general weirdness that I happened to notice. What does secondary status have to do with it? I'd still point it out even if you weren't. Why so insecure? Why so defensive? I did say you were free to make up whatever you like to suit your own scenario in your head.

In an early post by Wild Goose he talked about how the BETA could be defeated by orbital bombardment citing Stargate SG-1 and Mass Effect as 2 examples. It got me thinking: what if when the American probe first landed on Mars it discovered the Prothean base prior to encountering the BETA on Mars? And what if somehow Earth was able to gain access to the Prothean database and large amounts of element zero from the starships there? How would that affect TSF development and war with the BETA?
And what if the Council had been formed in response to the BETA? They're clearly a galactic threat and humans can't have been the only ones to fight against them.

Nothing that would make it possible for Izumi to become part of A-01 at that point with all the other barriers to entry, that's for certain. As I'm aware /m/ has already explained to you repeatedly, despite your apparent incapability to understand the points that they're making and hence perpetuating the same fallacies. Maybe if you took the time to read more closely you'd understand why neither Marimo nor Takeru is the "exception proof" you're looking for and why the nonexistence of Yokohama Base in 1998 matters not one whit.

No offense, as I said earlier you're perfectly free to imagine the most contrived exceptional circumstances possible if it'll get you the scenario you want. Anyhow, because this is somewhat relevant to Wellis' fanfiction ideas, and because I have a vague hope of TK arriving here, I'm going to answer his post questions:
In an early post by Wild Goose he talked about how the BETA could be defeated by orbital bombardment citing Stargate SG-1 and Mass Effect as 2 examples.
Really, it's not just SG-1 and ME; any verse with space warships that possess weapons that can range to earth can conduct orbital bombardment. Of course, using MIRV-deployed nukes like existing ICBMs is doomed to failure due to Hive Heavy Laser spam - I've seen speculation that BETA home in on anything that uses silicon (and assigns higher target priority), which is why they're so hax against missiles and nukes - which does mean that Horizon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikgRbhLChdg) isn't happening anytime soon.
As I've said before, you don't really need beam weapons - firing kinetic energy weapons will do the trick. You're dropping a heavy slug at high speed onto the enemy, which will give you equivalent energy release to a nuclear weapon with no radioactive fallout.
Also, inb4 Yamato (2199 refit). The Wave Motion Gun took out a floating continent the size of Australia, afterall. :p
Firing from orbit is the ultimate Fuck You to BETA hives, because you have the benefit of standoff range, firepower, and nothing the BETA have can touch you. The problem is that ML hasn't gotten there yet. The other worry is also that even with railguns and dropping rods from god, you still need to maintain a sufficient volume of fire to saturate BETA defenses - as I recall, artillery is only called in once Lasers are removed because laserspam hax can interdict so much of an artillery battalion's fires that they'll be rendered winchester without any tangible effect, which is why you have units like 666th running Wild Weasel missiles to kill Lasers.
It got me thinking: what if when the American probe first landed on Mars it discovered the Prothean base prior to encountering the BETA on Mars?
Before I get into the nitty gritty, I would be quite interested as to how the Americans managed to get so far - as I recall, the fledgling space colony was on Luna only, and was quickly overrun in short order. Also, by the time Luna was devoured, BETA had already completely overrun Mars. The prothean cache and eezo there are long since NOM.
And what if somehow Earth was able to gain access to the Prothean database and large amounts of element zero from the starships there? How would that affect TSF development and war with the BETA?
Personal experience speaking here - when your premise includes the word somehow, you really need to take a step back and give it more thought. Kinda learned this the hard way.
If ME tech were available, we're going to see more rifles using mass accelerator cannons instead of conventional shells - at least for the 36mm Assault Cannons. We'll be seeing smaller caliber "rounds" - really blocks of metal sheared off from an ammo block - that would, I hope, have similar performance to standard guns, but with larger ammo capacities. However, heat buildup will be an issue - TSF guns doctrine relies on putting down an impressive rate of fire, and there may not be time to allow the cooldown that ME weapons require - especially as thermal clips haven't been invented, and are still a pain in the ass.
If humans can't mine eezo, though, there's no point in using ME tech.
Kinetic Barriers would not really be that useful, I think - I doubt they'd work very well against a Grappler or Destroyer charge, and they're useless against lasers, which is why point defenses on ME ships use lasers.
And what if the Council had been formed in response to the BETA? They're clearly a galactic threat and humans can't have been the only ones to fight against them.
Curious premise. My guess is that the turian military is the front line, and uses orbital strikes as the first step to cleansing a planet of BETA. However, given how the Council is, I doubt they'd be helping Earth much.

Nothing that would make it possible for Izumi to become part of A-01 at that point with all the other barriers to entry, that's for certain.
The only two major barriers that /m/ thread kept going on about were
1. Izumi needs to a new A-01 trainee with no previous affiliation to graduate into the Valkyries
2. Izumi needs to have 00 Unit potential before she can become a A-01 trainee.
Seeing as how Izumi was a random cadet who never officially graduated the Royal Guard academy, I don't see why she can't just be recruited as one of Yuuko's new trainees in late 1998.
Since nobody will explain to me what actually gives a character 00 Unit potential no matter how many times I ask, I'm pretty much forced to improvise on that part. I wonder how you'll feel about chapter 1.5 when it's done.

Seeing as how Izumi was a random cadet who never officially graduated the Royal Guard academy, I don't see why she can't just be recruited as one of Yuuko's new trainees in late 1998.
But inexperienced or not, they have graduated, seeing as they're flying the Zuikakus that Yui said "once we graduate, that's what we'll be piloting" backed up also by Yui's uncle "In the Imperial Royal Guard Training Academy our training unit is the Gekishin. Once you graduate you’ll be piloting the Zuikaku." As well as shown wearing actual IRG suits instead of the cadet outfits. Judging by comments on their lack of experience, I'm guessing that either their graduation was rushed with the imminent invasion, or that's a reference to the simple fact that training really does not end upon graduation and new graduates really generally don't have any battlefield experience to speak of, as well as how the dedicated anti-BETA part of the training curriculum is all shoved in right at the end which would mean they haven't had as much time for that bit to sink in. I quote also the wiki "only soldiers and Eishi that have been officially commisioned are allowed to see the true forms of the BETA which are classified at the highest level to anyone else", and they're certainly already familiar with how BETA look and how Destroyers are meant to be fought.
Regardless, even if they somehow had not already graduated, how exactly is someone who has already enlisted in the IRG officer's school and gotten far enough in the program to already be taught about different BETA types and appropriate tactics for each class (which as was said is all shoved in the very last bit of the curriculum) equated to "a raw recruit with no previous affiliation who can enlist in pilot school and be trained as a new cadet from scratch"? Leaving aside the whole "they're using the machines and wearing the uniforms that are issued upon graduation, strongly suggesting that they have graduated" thing.
By the way, you know they don't search through other military organizations testing all their pilots for potential to look for recruits, right?
Either way, in the world of fanfiction, anything's possible, far be it from me to tell you to allow consistency with the source to hinder you.
Wild Goose

So essentially, what Doom Ravager is saying is that Izumi can't be a part of A-01 because she's already graduated from the Imperial Royal Guards' training program (truncated as it may be), and A-01 takes in fresh recruits, who are selected by Yuuko using some sort of criteria that she knows.
Also, if I understand /m/ correctly, Marimo was seconded to A-01 to serve as a trainer, seeing as how she'd spent a good deal of time with the Fuji School Brigade (YAMATO DAMASHII OPFOR (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/11th_Armored_Cavalry_Regiment)), but she was not part of A-01's combat forces.
Also, the Imperial Royal Guard is technically a separate service from the IJA or IJN; what Hagoshod is postulating seems akin to someone who's completed Ranger or Green Beret training transferring into a SEAL team - it doesn't really work like that. Or a Navy helo pilot transferring into an Army chopper unit.
As for Yui's unit, it looks as though training has been truncated, and they've lumped all the nuggets together into a squadron to be lead by a senior pilot, instead of carefully parceling them out to squadrons with experienced pilots - probably because they need the Kyoto defenders at their best, and having the defenders defend Kyoto and babysit nuggets would be a nightmare. This actually did happen with German and Japanese pilots towards the end of WW2, sending squadrons full of quickly commissioned nuggets up against experienced American pilots. So yeah, it does look alot like Izumi's already commissioned.

Or a Navy helo pilot transferring into an Army chopper unit.
And before he says anything about Yui being an IRG officer flying over to Project PROMINENCE, it's absolutely not the same thing. There's a world of difference between an IRG officer working in weapons R&D being sent over by the Japanese side to oversee TSF development with the US as the Japanese representative under the blanket of a UN R&D program (in which case she's still under the IRG, being sent by them as a representative), and the idea of transferring as a squad member into a selective dedicated UN military unit used solely for Alternative IV-related ops which can be deployed above the law where the normal dedicated UN military is not allowed to intervene, essentially having its own agenda and command structure independent of the rest of the UN, which as already explained doesn't just simply take transfers from outsiders like that.
It is fanfiction, though. He can do whatever crazy things he likes and there's not problem with that.
Micropod
2012-09-05, 23:32
^The problem comes in when he insists that it's a totally and very plausible scenario given what we already know about canon.
Why can we not just agree that it does not really matter what Haghoshod has deluded himself into thinking is and is not possible since pretty much everyone else except him already realizes just how incredibly far-fetched the whole thing is? I mean, that he's trying to write fanfiction about Alternative's final mission and A-01 when his idea of how the final mission went is full of inaccuracies and he doesn't even know what the trait that qualifies people to be the 00 Unit is is already pretty funny, I don't think we can expect too much from him consistency-wise. Just sit back and enjoy the fumbling is what I say.
On a meta-fictional level, I'd dare to say that those candidates are "heroines" of âge's VN who could potentially sleep with the protagonists of said VNs, be it Mabu Rabu, KimiNozo or KimiKisetsu.
That's the "conclusion" I have drawn from Yuuko's words that goes like, "They were candidates because they could choose the best possible future and act in consequence.."
So yeah, Noto don't make the cut, she is a red shirt.

That said, note that A-01 pulls in fresh recruits, and has no cross service transfers - Marimo is seconded to them in a support capacity. The very fact that Izumi has gone through IRG training would suggest, to me at the least, that she'd be disqualified from A-01; Yuuko seems to want fresh recruits with no preconceptions or mindsets from another service, presumably so they can be molded to fit A-01. Given that she's already been filled with IRG doctrine... Yeah.

But you're completely wrong.
You know 207B's cadets were using their assigned training machines and wearing their trainee outfits when they did end up getting quickly shoved onto the battlefield in an unexpected emergency before they graduated in Alternative, not issued non-training TSFs meant for live combat, unlike Yui's squad who have now been issued the proper Imperial Royal Guard machines and suits which are issued to actual graduated officers?
You know 207B's cadets later got to graduate despite still being trainees who haven't even completed their training, and were subsequently not using training units and trainee outfits, serving as an example that under extraordinary circumstances (though the circumstances are different for 207B and for Yui's squad) you can be a graduate without having completed your training?
You know how it was pointed out that Yui's squad are no longer using the training TSFs and outfits and now have their color-coded non-trainee machines and outfits issued already by the time the BETA showed up all of a sudden, which indicates that they have in fact been commissioned? If they were still complete cadets without a commission, they'd be sitting in their training Gekishins wearing their cadet suits. Yui's squad's and 207B's situations are not comparable.

Already addresses the issue with the comments on their lack of experience and/or full training, which you have not provided any direct rebuttal to, besides a couple of screenshots saying "WELL YOUR TRAINING AIN'T COMPLETE", which has itself was being demonstrated as not a yardstick by which graduation status can be reliably measured under pressuring circumstances. Of course not, he couldn't be bothered to read the main work of the franchise he's trying to write fanfiction about and consequently only knows isolated details with huge gaps about what happened in Alternative, based on hearsay.
And it's possible he thinks everyone's just out to get him because of that, as opposed to having genuine grievances the existence of which he is effectively the absolutely only one incapable of realizing.

It'd be practically no better than current TSFs. It won't be able to go fast enough to evade Laser-class, and there is currently no known way (IIRC) to spoof them. Current speeds are actually fast enough, and operating time isn't really an issue - IIRC you tend to get NOMed before actually running out of fuel.
If there's some way of defeating - or at least defending - Lasers, then you've got someting viable. This is why I was saying that for the battlefield, post-2040 Valkyries would be more survivable, thanks to the pinpoint barrier system; sure, it won't tank a full on laserhax spam, but it will last more than long enough for you to stay alive.

Then what about with Stargate tech, considering shield technology has been miniaturized to the extent you can have personal shields? They, unlike ME's kinetic barriers, can protect against lasers and such. And naquadah has enough energy to easily supply power to shields.

Since you apparently completely lack reading comprehension, and everyone except you can see it, I'll just say it one more time for its own sake. Them being referred to as having not completed their training does not necessarily mean they haven't gotten their commission yet, for reasons already given. While at the same time, everything else about them that was explicitly shown on-screen (as compared to a squad from the VN that was actually hurriedly deployed without graduating) does in fact point towards them having graduated. Your supposed contradiction is not there.
And that is about all I have to say about the matter at this point besides what I already wrote in my last post, the points within which you have not even tried to address, which everyone besides you realizes. Go back and read all the posts against yours again, closely this time. Good day to you. :heehee:

No, I did actually read most of it. The problem is it's already contradicted by what's explicitly stated on-screen. There's no reason to argue it further.
This is where we really need a native speaker who knows army talk to clear up what was actually said, what with Crunchy being derp from time to time. I figure that the squad leader's comments could be interpreted in a number of ways:
(1) Yui's class are still IRG trainees pressed into service. This is the literal interpretation, which is somewhat belied by how they're wearing standard IRG flight gear and piloting Imperial Royal Guards colors Type-82 Zuikaku TSFs, as opposed to the translucent training flight suits and training colors Type-77 Gekishin TSFs.
It's like saying that a bunch of American pilots are still trainees while they're in Phantoms, instead of Talon trainers.
Or;
(2) Yui's class has been commissioned, but has not fully completed the training syllabus, which is why the squad leader calls them trainees, because that is what they functionally are. Note that new pilots, whether from Annaolis, Colorado Springs, West Point, or Aviation Officer Candidate School (http://instapinch.com/?p=164) at Pensacola, graduate as 2nd Lieutenants and Ensigns, but are still not considered fully trained pilots. In fact AOCS looks a lot closer to what Yui's class went through - when you graduate AOCS, only then you get orders to report for flight training. In this case they're doing AOCS and flight training together. So they're commissioned 2LTs, but are still trainee pilots.
Or;
(3) Squad leader calls them nuggets (newbie pilots) instead of maggots (boot camp recruits), but the nuance is lost to Crunchy's herpderp. Like I said, need a native speaker who knows army talk to confirm/deny, which is why I'm not putting as much weight on this interpretation.
Lastly, this is all a moot point because A-01 does not take external transfers, but trains its own maggot pilot trainees. If they took external transfers, they would not have gone from wing strength (108 TSFs/pilots) to a single squadron (12 TSFs, Isumi's Valkyries), as they could have made good their losses from replacements. Inferences can be drawn that Yuuko wants pilots with no preconceptions or existing doctrine in their heads, so she can mould them the way she wants.
As Izumi has already been trained as a member of the Imperial Royal Guards, and has already been exposed to IRG doctrine, she is no longer a blank slate acceptable to A-01.
As for pilot systems are 360 degree panoramic monitors and next the logical improvement of muv luv exosuit or fortified suit I guess i would macross frontier Ex-gear which can help the pilots controls and survivability and it alot more compact

No point. laser will still shoot you down and you aren't carrying enough firepower to kill anything.
A Cyclone would be awesome... Except that you're stuck on the ground, and unless you have a railgun or a beam cannon, Soldier-kun would like to hug you and Tank-class will take you to dinner.
Then what about with Stargate tech, considering shield technology has been miniaturized to the extent you can have personal shields? They, unlike ME's kinetic barriers, can protect against lasers and such. And naquadah has enough energy to easily supply power to shields.
Is there any mention of what type of powersource TSFs use in Muv-Luv?
Kaizerknight01: Thinking about mecha and controls, part of me wonders how someone who has played Steel Battalion, with its controller (http://www.steelbattalion.org/controller.php), would do in piloting TSFs?
Yes and no, in that physical impacts cn still get through the shields. On the other hand, you really need it to protect you from lasers, and once those are clear you can just rain death from above, so it would make the American doctrine a bit more practical.
IF the Americans were able to mass produce shield tech, I could see it being given to Wild Weasel F-16s for hunter killer teams: hunters scout the battlefield, looking for lasers and relying on the shields to protect them, while killers go low and jump the lasers when hunters find them.
Other bit of tech would be using trinium for AP shells to kill Destroyer-class from the front, and naquadah to make more powerful missiles/120mm shells. And of course once they launch Promethus and the rest of the BC-304s, you have a small fleet that can interdict incoming BETA hives and provide orbital fire support.

If shield tech could be mass produced why couldn't the US just equip all TSFs with them? Also is there any mention of what TSFs are powered by in canon?
Regarding trinium, wouldn't it be smarter for it to be used for making TSFs much tougher, possibly being able to protect against lasers much longer due to trinium being 100x stronger and lighter than an equivalent amount of steel?
And what would be useful about how naquadah and potassium react (http://www.stargate-sg1-solutions.com/wiki/Naquadah#Singularity) when put together?
You mention that some protagonists would do worse than Takeru, but how? He himself started as a mere civilian who was average at best, with only having great piloting skills due to playing video games all the time. It's not like he had special powers or a well-trained body prior to Unlimited/Alternative like some protagonists have, such as Nasuverse protagonists, to name a few.
And what would make Keima or Negi more competent in Unlimited/Alternative when neither of them really deal with mecha? Would Negi be able to pilot a TSF well or something like Takeru was able to do?

If shield tech could be mass produced why couldn't the US just equip all TSFs with them? Also is there any mention of what TSFs are powered by in canon?
That's long term; in the short term, units with priority for shields would be Wild Weasels and probably Raptors. Give shields to the squadrons hunting Laser-class to defend themselves; oncemthe lasers are clear, you can bring in death from above. It's like how dedicated Wild Weasel aircraft will have specialised SEAD loadouts and jamming gear, while the follow on strike aircraft won't be carrying that gear, devoting their stores to ordanance.
In canon, in the subject of powering TSFs, there are no mentions that I can recall. Given the jump engines are strongly suggestive of gas turbines (specifically turbofan engines), I'd figure they run on avgas.q
Regarding trinium, wouldn't it be smarter for it to be used for making TSFs much tougher, possibly being able to protect against lasers much longer due to trinium being 100x stronger and lighter than an equivalent amount of steel?
If you have shields, you don't need anti laser protection. Once your shield-protected TSFs have killed the Lasers, you can take to the skies freely. Also, TSFs are fragile and there's little benefit to protecting them heavily. It's better to invest that trinium into AP shells that can kill a Destroyer head on.

Behind the restrained irritation, I think they're making a pretty fair number of good points. Even disregarding all that stuff about G-elements and what exactly a 00 Unit and a 00 Unit candidate are, there's also bits later in the thread about how both troop placements and Hive structure do make your scenario pretty difficult (e.g. comms effective distances, possible BETA entry points in relation to XG-70d and Meiya location, the reason Meiya took so much longer than Takeru to enter the core block, etc.). I won't bother commenting on their reaction to your attitude and your reaction to theirs. Ah well. If it makes you happy, act as you will, Hagoshod - although at this point I'm quite sure your fic ain't my cuppa tea (well, milo or teh tarik, given I'm Malaysian.... goodness, can't remember the last time I had either beverage. I guess I oughta turn in my passport :p)
Would a ME TSF equipped with Silaris armor fare better ?
That depends on how and whether they can get the Silaris armor. Frankly, given that it took the Systems Alliance a while to figure out how to make it, because the Asari weren't sharing... and given how fucking expensive it is, this is one of those things that would be neat, but there is not enough return on the investment to justify the resources and effort poured into it.
Again, trinium AP rounds for anti-Destroyer work. That's a better tradeoff - you have enough of those, you can stay on the ground and kill Destroyers from the front without having to take to the skies and expose yourself to Laserhax.
Like a jet fighter, a Tactical Surface Fighter is a fragile craft relying primarily on speed and maneuver as it's main defense. It shouldn't be throwing down in boxing matches or the like, it should be dancing about the battlefield spraying an impressive volume of fire and darting in an out of combat with its swords, not trying to wrestle a Destroyer.

I get the feeling that if they had access to Mass Effect's technology, the first thing they'd probably do is pour it into an XG-70-esque superweapon gamechanger, rather than try to implement it in their existing TSF frames.
Wild Goose
2012-09-09, 11:33
*slaps forehead* Exactly, and it's easier sometimes to start big, then scale down.
*facepalm* Goddamnit. If they have Mass Effect tech, then they can have mass accelerator cannons emplaced in orbit. You then have orbital fire support onto BETA targets. Main guns on a Systems Alliance Everest-class dreadnought fire 20 kilogram ferrous slugs that impact with the force of a 38 kiloton bomb. That's thirty eight thousand tons of TNT. And since it's going at 1.3% of lightspeed, and the main gun has a rate of fire of 12 rounds per minute, you're talking about the equivalent of three Hiroshima nukes every five seconds.
Holy fuck.
...on further reflection they aren't going to get so far so fast, so probably something like the Type-99 for the XG-70, and maybe a heavy machinegun equivalent for flight/squadron level Gun Sweeper TSFs.
Edit: The real importance of the Type-99, IMO, is that as a squad level weapon it is absolutely devastating against an onrushing BETA horde. It's powerful enough to vaporise BETA - including Destroyer-class, who have a Moh's Scale Level 15 diamond hard armor! (XP) As such, any weapon that can do that - even in bursts like a Mass Effect gun - is going to be extremely useful, for reasons I've mentioned above.
John117xCortana
2012-09-09, 11:36
Hm...won't ME TSF assault cannon mass accelerators have better versatility ? They can switch to AP ammo, Incendiary, Shredder with a flick of a switch. Oh, and their 120mm cannon can be the TSF version of the Cain.
Oh and retractable Omni wrist blades.
Wild Goose
2012-09-09, 11:40
I'm honestly unsure if whether the personal ammo mods can be scaled up for the larger weapons - at a certain point, it becomes impossible for something to be scaled up, something called the Square Cube Law.
And I really doubt they'd have omni blades for the TSFs. Though if you could pull it off, it would be quite fun.
John117xCortana
2012-09-09, 11:43
It would save space. And there would be less moving parts.
What about the Cain ?
Wild Goose
2012-09-09, 11:50
Again, if they could make the smart ammo like in ME2/3, that'd be great, but I strongly doubt they can scale the tech up from infantry small arms to vehicle auto cannon level.
I actually doubt they could make the Cain work - if they could, it'd be a great FUCK YOU BETA weapon, and an awesome grenade launcher equivalent, but that's if they can get it to work.
As for ME Assault Cannons, the main issues are that overheating is a problem - we see TSFs engaged in Final Protective Fires (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_protective_fire), where they're holding down the triggers and unloading all of their ammo into the BETA - this isn't going to work with guns from the Mako and Hammerhead, because of the cooldown time required. I could see those in a support role, assigned to a Gun Sweeper acting as a machinegunner equivalent, but not as a frontline weapon.
tl;dr, any mass accelerator guns are going to be so rare, they're going to fit the same category as the Type-99 to start with.
John117xCortana
2012-09-09, 12:14
How about using ME1 cooling systems for machinegunners while using ME2/3 heat clips for those in the Storm Vanguard role or any role that involves them being in the front ?
The Mako's main cannon had a fast refire rate though.
Instead of putting Silaris armor on the TSF how about just putting it on their Supplemental Armor instead ?

Battlemechs equal BETA rape. Medium lasers put out enough power to kill Destroyers from the front, and are significantly more powerful than that of Laser-class. With proper heat sink setup, you can have several battlemechs holding the line against a BETA horde and just cutting through them like butter.
(This requires building a laserboat and cycling your weapons, not Alpha Striking.)
TSFs will probably still be needed for hive infiltrations, but the main battlemechs will be able to handle most BETA threats.

As for the personal TSF of Takeru in the fanfic i'm writing I picture this unit in mind http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s15/knightbridge/c7ec53ca51f321e3e69fd401f8d67a618c63fbf0.jpg[IMG]http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s15/knightbridge/10c630d33fb69c2f6b0c36eba4debf433db934d8.jpg
"Kaiten" Heaven Shaker or "Change the World" its the code name given by the Japan's Imperial army ( Well alternative verse seems have units name reference to WWII units and such) ever since this mysterious unit just appeared of of nowhere and obliterates the BETA hordes

Yup its, I want a mech that could pass as TSF ( well there alot of candidates, and as for the white glint quite fond of it design...... and kotobukiya Frame arms series kinda fits in Muv luv mecha
AS for Shirogane Takeru name , it have quite a number of hidden meanings
Like Takeru kanji can be use in warfare , weapons
you can word play Shirogane in Shiroi Hagane ( White Steel)

Battlemechs equal BETA rape. Medium lasers put out enough power to kill Destroyers from the front, and are significantly more powerful than that of Laser-class. With proper heat sink setup, you can have several battlemechs holding the line against a BETA horde and just cutting through them like butter.
(This requires building a laserboat and cycling your weapons, not Alpha Striking.)
TSFs will probably still be needed for hive infiltrations, but the main battlemechs will be able to handle most BETA threats.
I'm sure that you can alpha strike the hell out of top hive first then send battlemechs armed with 10 and 20 autocannon of all variety and TSFs with two swords, one assault cannon and one shield.
And then dakka all the way to the bottom and scream HUMAN BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIINNNNNNNNN:eyespin:

You could try that, but you'd run out of ammo easily. Also, don't forget that battlemechs are bigger, larger, and not as agile as TSFs - I can see them getting swarmed pretty easily inside hives. Let's not forget how the hives twist and turn...
I'd say use battlemechs to clear the battlefield of BETA hordes, focusing on taking out the Lasers, then use other TSFs to provide additional support. Then, once you get to the hives, use the battlemechs as the heavy hitters while the TSFs infiltrate the hives.

Erm....atcually,most TSFs are twice as tall as the tallest battlemech.(Compare Takemikazuchi to Atlas will be awkward considering Atlas name...)
Also,Battlemech's insane firepower allowed them to have one shot multi kill, even the pityful 2 autocannon can rip a hole in BETA herd,as well as their missile launcher that can launch enough missiles to rival Macross and overwhelm laser-class's laser.SRM and MRM would work too well in hive...
.......
A crossover between Battletech and Muvluv would cause even more political shitstorm on the already political shitted world:eyespin:

Yes, yes, but they aren't as agile. They can escort TSFs into hives to secure beachheads, but infiltration will still need to be done by TSFs.
If TSFs are some hybrid of infantry-helicopter-jet fighter, battlemechs are armor.

The problem with the magic system in Nanoha is that it is so vague that someone who don't think things through, and is a total fanboy of the franchise, can easily and totally go into the Infinite Power fallacy.

Well the magic system of nanoha is just beam spam which doesn't really follow a set of magic system or rules which other use or we are familiar with (well its alien magic with the use of device or A.I machine to do the computation and let your mind do the imagination and run wild). Like in nasu or tamni verse magic system. For me its like the nanoha magic system is like power system of DBZ or the likes of that. Not to mention the current battles in nanoha manga.
I don't think a cross over with that kind of story would work.
The big question about its magic system is, "What's its limits? How much can their shields stop in the field of kinetics, chemical, bacteriological and nuclear damage?" , too little and you have their fans throwing a fit about how their mages are not that weak. too much and you can't think of a credible threat. Even the limit of their magic energy pool seems to be "As the plot demands it."

Exactly. For example, does a shield that can tank Nanoha's Divine Buster Extension have the power to do the same to the non-magical shot of a Laser Class? (And speaking of Laser Class, let's not forget Nanoha's "casting time as the plot demands" issue as well.) Though truthfully, Nanoha crossovers get into the "orbital bombardment with energy weapons" issue, if you have a fleet of Bureau warships rain fire from their main batteries down on the BETA (or Arc-en-Ciel a few hives: all the destructiveness of nukes, without the ability to bunker against it, no projectile to shoot down, and none of that messy post-detonation radioactive fallout).

Hence why my OCs used guns and were essentially Section Nine, as that was something i could quantify.
But i agree, getting the Bureau involved means orbital fire support. I have some doubts on the arc-en-Ciel - IIRC there serious issues with using it on Earth - but it would be a great way to cleanse hives.

Not only that, the Bureau could just warp a mage-carrier battle group to the BETA homeworld, and glass it in its entirety. The only thing stopping them would be any semblance of a Prime Directive. If they follow the O'Neill Directive however...

Here’s a fanfic idea that was stuck in my head. Originally it was about Yui’s friends surviving the Fall of Kyoto but after reading kaizerknight01’s idea of Armored Cores and learning there were a lot of characters in Muv Luv form it’s wikia, it started to change.
In this fanfic, PMCs got involved in the war against the BETA during the 1970’s. The reason for their existences were two reasons; 1. Some are willing to risk their lives or fight harder if they were given lots of money and 2. It allows some TSF pilots from different nations the freedom to join any of the frontlines when politics would have prevented that (eg. An US pilot might not be allowed to join the Middle Eastern front unless it was an UN mission.)
Because the PMCs are not a regular military unit, they have more leeway and don’t follow protocols on treating their TSFs. As a result, PMC TSFs are heavily modded depending on their pilots needs or battlestyles. Some of these TSF might have more armor, more or bigger guns, the ability to carry and use two swords, faster engines, extra missiles, better targeting system, etc.
Despite their help in the war, the US, Soviets and Japanese dislike the PMCs very much with the US seeing them as unpatriotic, money grubbing bastards (half of the PMC pilots are Americans who left the military due to their dislike their country isn’t more involved in the fight against the BETA), the Soviet sees them as Capitalist pigs (the PMCs receives billions of dollars from countries who hire them) and the Japanese sees them as dishonorable warriors with no pride (they only fight for money. The PMCs being composed of foreigners doesn’t help either). As a result, when these countries hire them, the PMC aren’t allowed to fight in the frontlines and are allowed to do two things: guarding and escort the supply lines which the Big Three(which I will call the US/SU/IJ ) to humiliate them and the most dangerous job: becoming the rear guard for the main forces when they’re retreating while the PMCs hold the line and fend off the BETA which they hope many PMC pilots will die while saving their own. Ironically, the Big Three’s attempt on the PMC actually made them stronger and better. Because the supply lines are under their control, some PMCs pilots “borrow” certain weapons and parts for their TSF while making it look like it was lost in red tape, missing during battle or eaten by BETA (there’s one story how a rookie “stole” a Takemikazuchi TSF from an arrogant Japanese pilot who not only acted like a jerkass to the PMCs, but to the pit crews and his fellows Japanese pilots. To get back at him, the rookie, the pit crews and the Japanese pilots sabotage the jerkass pilot’s Takemikazuchi by making it look it could never be piloted again and had to be dismantle while it was secretly being sent to the rookie and his crew to be modded and covered up.) Secondly, the PMC pilots gain a lot of experience fighting the BETA regularly thanks to being in the rearguard where they learn the BETA weakness while finding many ways to kill them in creative ways.
While the PMCs also suffer losses like their military counterparts, theirs are much smaller since most of their pilots are veterans who have fought the BETA more than a decade and the ones who died are the rookies who never survive their first battle or veterans whose luck ran out. Within the PMC command structure, they don’t take orders from the military but their government clients. (eg.The Shogun hires the PMCs which they take only orders from her. They won’t take orders from the Imperial Army or the Imperial Guard unless the Shoguns says so.) To show the PMCs are different from the regular military, the PMCs have their own uniforms and their TSF pilots suit are different which includes e-helmets which helps their pilots better.
So the beginning of the fanfic starts on how Yui and her friends get a new instructor whose a veteran and former PMC pilot hired by the Shogun to teach Yui’s class how they should really fight the BETA instead what their military doctrine says.
I’ll like to say more but I’m busy. But I’ll leave you with this:
The instructor’s name is Colonel Miles Lang (You get a cookie if you know who I’m talking about) and the Fall of Kyoto…… takes a turning point for the humans when a new, experimental weapon is unleashed.

You know, we could ALL make franchises with MrT's idea. I know that Tempy has Section 9 planned, Goose's got a wing all ready to go, and kct has been boiling over with ideas in the Outercadia chat.
(I don't have anything as epic. Besides, when I write about a squad of infantrymen fighting through a city under BETA Mycetic Spore attack a la Battle:LA sort of negates my cred for realism. So until I get something useful, you guys go have fun.)
(And yes, in my world, BETA can fire squads of Warriors and Soldiers, or a sole Tank using a Catapult BETA, into suborbital trajectories and have them drop behind garrisons. Doing so would destroy the Catapult in the process, so it takes time to regenerate. It is however an effective harrassment tactic and keeps the humans just off-balance when they fight into a stalemate.)
(And gives me reason to send manly men in environment suits and pulse rifles to their glorious deaths.)
Imagine if the OC business spawned an entire spinoff perspective on the MuvLuvian universe just based on this. It will be GLORIOUS.

Personnel ideas included:
- Sergeant John Davis, the main viewpoint character. Formerly a 1LT until getting demoted due to a bustup, he's now stuck being the supporter to his kohai whomhe trained. And ifthat wasn't enough, his old man is a Colonel... Who's also the CO of the Butterworth Base.
- 1st Lieutenant Raymond Tang. John's friend and kohai, he's now the CO for Cobra as there's no one else left. Still aware that he has shit tons to learn, but he's no longer the clueless noob he was in 1994.
- 2nd Lieutenant Siti Haliza. A beautiful girl with a beautiful singing voice. In another universe, she could be a singer. In 1995 on Alternative Earth, she's an FNG pilot.
- 1st Lieutenant Sharon Dauer, the Typhoon of Manila. A woman of contrasts. Unable to shoot straight, but a whirling dervish of destruction with a blade in her TSFs hands. small, slender, like a flower, but with a core like steel. A visibly young woman, but referred to by all as Obaa-san.

Thanks for the comments guys. Here’s some more info about the fanfic.
The story starts of Yui’s class being introduced to their new Instructor, Colonel Miles Lang, a former US Marine and 30 year veteran. Colonel Lang formally led a PMC Brigade for the Raven Corp (One of the four major PMCs in this fanfic) before he was hired by Yuuhi(BTW when did Yuuhi became Shogun since I never played the games and only getting my information about MLU/MLA from the mangas and watching Total Eclipse). Two years ago, Yuuhi, accompany by a unit of Imperial Guards, went to the Chinese frontlines to see the battle close up where she had a serious wake up call when she realize despite the Japanese having supposedly the best TSF and pilots, they are no match for the BETA after seeing a newly graduated unit of Imperial Guards who were supposed to be the best of their class getting killed easily either by recklessness, foolish pride and disorderly confusion. While Yuuhi is sadden by this scene, she notices something interesting faraway.
Despite an order to retreat and return to base to the troops, a large group of unusual TSFs that had different colors she doesn’t recognize heads to the frontlines while the UN, Chinese and Japanese forces are withdrawing. As these TSFs form a defense line, Yuuhi is amazed of their discipline and skills when she sees these TSFs are better in fighting and killing the BETA despite being a smaller force. But Yuuhi foolishly tries to get close to see when a force of 300 BETAs surrounds her and her bodyguards. As her bodyguards get decimated, Yuuhi is almost kill by a Grappler class when seven TSFs come to the rescue. Amazingly, despite the numbers, these seven TSF manage to kill all 300 BETAs. Yuuhi’s rescuer was lead by the Colonel himself. As she’s about to thank him, the Colonel scolds Yuuhi for being so reckless and almost endangering the troops fighting here. One of her bodyguards gets angry, telling the Colonel how dare a foreigner like him speaks to a member of the five families like that, only to get taught a lesson by one of the Colonel’s men, “Zen” a former Japanese Imperial Guard.
Zen, a ten year veteran, defends the Colonel because in the battlefield, status means nothing, what only matter is experience and the will to fight or die. The Colonel continues to criticize Yuuhi that a rookie like her came into this battle thinking she knew everything when she knows nothing. Not only did she lead to her bodyguards death due to her foolishness but she almost jeopardize the frontlines that he and his fellows PMC units have made to help the regular forces retreat safely. The Colonel ends his speech by telling to Yuuhi to learn her mistakes and wise up or if you don’t, your dead and don’t belong in the battlefield, before he and his unit go “Laser Hunting”. Yuuhi, impressed by what the Colonel said, realize Japan needs to change its ways on how they teach their pilots how to fight BETA. After two years of negotiations with her government and Raven Corp, Yuuhi manages to convince Colonel Lang to become an Instructor at the Imperial Academy.
Well i end this story post for now, but here’s some extra info about the type of classes the PMC TSF use.
Strikers are fast and agile TSF armed with two swords who are skilled melee experts. Knowledgeable about the BETA’s anatomy, the Strikers can perform quick and precise hits on BETA to kill or immobilize them. Strikers have lighter armor to help their speed at the cost of less protection. While most Strikers TSF don’t have guns, they are at least armed with spikes, retractable chainswords, two cannons or twin mini guns on their forearms as an emergency weapon.
Heavy Hitters are slower and heavily armored TSF armed with Warhammers, Lances and Halberds. As their name suggests, they use heavy melee weapons to do much damage on the BETA especially the armored ones. The Heavy Hitters are equipped with a special heavy armor that withstands several hits from Destroyer class ramming and Grappler class strikes before breaking. Thanks to increase strength in their arms and legs, Heavy Hitters have the ability to flip BETAs especially Destroyers by using their weapons to smack them upwards before another TSF kills them on their exposed area. Even without weapons, the Heavy Hitters can lift and flip a Destroyer with their own hands which takes precise skills. Like the Strikers, they are armed with spikes, retractable chainswords, two cannons or twin mini guns on their forearms as an emergency weapon.
Berserkers are a special melee unit assigned to the frontlines. Known as the most dangerous unit to both the BETA and humans, the Berserkers are composed of mentally unstable pilots and killers who desire to kill as many BETA in many horrific ways. Berserkers TSFs are mixed with regular but modded TSF, Strikers and Heavy Hitters but one thing their TSFs have in common is that all have increase strength in their legs and more than three melee weapons or larger guns. Because of their mental condition, most PMC commanders are reluctant to send a large force of Berserkers for fear they will attack their allies during their rage. Another is the fact Berserker enjoy torturing the BETA before killing them which unsettle some pilots. (eg. A group of Berserkers surrounds a Destroyer, flip it over its belly, cut off its legs and proceeds to stab repeatedly before it dies. (BTW, do BETAs scream in pain? Cause I planning to show how disturbing the Berserkers are when they torture BETA and enjoy hearing them scream.))Despite this, they have highest kill ratio against the BETA. To help better their fighting performance, drugs which increase their aggression are injected into them before they fight the BETA. Because of their mad desire to kill BETA, Berserkers will keep on fighting no matter what, even if their TSF are badly damaged. As a safety measure and as an act of mercy, all Berserker TSFs are loaded with a single Vacuum bomb that has half the destructive power of the atomic bomb that hit Hiroshima, which will automatically explode when the TSF is heavily damaged and surrounded by BETA, which spares the pilot a painful death and kill thousands of BETA at the same time.
"BETA bowling" is an unusual but effective technique perform by all three classes. When a large group Destroyer class are heading their way, a battle line is formed. Once the first group of Destroyers are in range, the Heavy Hitters flip them into the air with their weapons or own arms where the Strikers perform a quick kill on them before the Berserkers takes over and kicks, punches, strikes, throws or rocket blast them back to the horde.
Therefore: large group of BETA very close proximity with each other + one dead BETA throw in their way = massive domino damage.
In the next post, i will provide some info of the OCs of this fic plus the addition of the cast of Modern Warfare and Black Ops.
PS:I'm kinda sad that no one figure which character i based the Colonel on. The clue is in his name.

Pretty good setting for a side story or a off shoot , the minor issue is Yuuhi at 2001 her age is around 16/17 ish the same as Meiya, i think in 1999 Yuuhi is not yet a shogun, maybe a candidate, ( There are five royal house holds and appointed by a regency ) wish you the best in writing your fanfic
ps i suggest you play the game Extra/Unlimited/ Alternative ...... just be ready at the trauma train of Alternative ( Still "bruised" by Alternative , writing fanfic is became a from to explore what if scenario

Honestly, it's best to finish Extra, Unlimited and Alternative, becuase it's only then that you'll gain a full understanding of the events. That's partly why my story isn't ff the ground yet - once i finish the games, only then do i feel confident enough to write.

I'm not into the fic stuff but they all have a point, it's going to be hard to get a fic down if you haven't got the full background done. That's like wanting to do a fic about CG and only knowing it has Ashford and turn it into Lelouch plotting to get all the girls to himself behind his father's back.

Thanks for the advice kaizerknight01 and Wild Goose. But i think i'll stick to reading the mangas and the MuvLuv wikia which the latter already spoil somethings to me especially what happens during the final part of MLA(To be honest, i didn't feel anything over those traumatic parts possibly because seeing many other traumatic series kinda desensitizes you.) Furthermore, my laptop has been acting strange lately so i don't want to risk ruining it by installing a new game. Plus, i can just watch it on youtube. (Thank you Let's Play videos!)
Anyway, the next post i'll talk about the PMCs and the OCs in the fanfic.

I said the same thing before playing it. Before playing extra I said its stupid, before playing unlimited I said what a waste of time, before playing alternative FINALLY! I'm playing it! but after all that preparation and waste of time it's still not enough to prepare you for alternative and its REALLY WORTH IT!
Play it. Its worth your time. Find sometime playing it after your laptop is fix.
Getting knowledge from second hand information won't give you solid idea of the thing your making.

There are for the main trilogy of game. For the other games unfortunately none but I remember people starting on Altered Fable and The Day After tomorrow games from Chronicles. Not sure if its true however.
Also in the wiki, there are summaries in the wiki for some of the side stories and TDA Episodes 00, 01 and 02.
Speaking of PMCs, I had this in the works for a while now. Just now getting to somewhat finishing the pilot episodes. What I do from there... who knows.
Kyoto burned. The light of multiple fires reflected off of thick clouds of smoke made it seem like the very air itself was ablaze. Not that it was any worse, with the BETA slowly but surely rampaging through the city.
Within the city, two foreign tactical surface fighters soared dangerously close to the Kyoto skyline, forced to nearly scrape roofs due to the heavy presence of “Lux” BETA. The shattered and broken remnants of defeated Imperial Japanese forces littered the ground, the only reminder of the fallen.
One of the fighter’s pilots watched as he passed a mostly intact Shiranui TSF. Other than the completely blasted-out chest, the mech seemed to be resting against an abandoned hotel. “A lot of people are off dying in a losing war...”
His wingman replied, “That’s the nature of conflict. You should have realized this by now.”
“Were this a war between nations, I would understand. Against alien forces... such thinking is difficult to apply. There remains much meaningless loss...”
“I watched a whole squad of TSFs get completely bulldozed by Destroyers. Why not rush away, reposition, then re-engage? They just screamed to their deaths.”
“What waste...”
“Too right.”
Kyoto was a lost cause. The defensive lines, however stout, could not hold against the seemingly endless tide of BETA. Now the Japanese were scrambling to escape the horde. UN-hired private military company forces were deployed throughout the theatre, tasked with virtually every job possible, leaving actual military forces to deal with evacuation. A messy and noisy affair, but all that mattered was getting as many people as possible out alive. As much as the Imperial Japanese forces disliked their presence, the PMCs proved repeatedly to be highly useful.
As such, two men of PMC squadron “Stray Dogs” were scrambled to recover a lost member of the Imperial Royal Guard: a young woman named Takamura Yui, vassal of the Shogunate. She and her squad were merely cadets, only freshly blooded from the fighting in Kyoto, and lost somewhere in the city. With her last known position and a transponder signal, the two men had scoured the city for nearly an hour. After an indeterminate amount of time, something pinged on their sensors. Less than kilometers away, an automatic distress signal blipped on the scanners. It matched the one they were given.
“Positive on the signal,” the element lead announced. “We’re moving in.”
“At your five, Coach.”
Five kilometers was nothing for the F15s to cover. Barely a minute passed before they were right over the signal source. Despite the current area being clear, things could change for the worse in an instant.
“Takao Base, this is Stray Dog oh-one. Sitrep. Over.”
There was no reply.
“Takao? Stray Dog oh-one. Please respond. Over.”
Nothing.
“Really now. Bloody Japanese can’t hold a line for shit,” Coach muttered as he took position on a roof. So far, coast was mostly clear. Mostly. That could change at any time. “I’d rather not stick around too long. The damage on those buildings doesn’t look like it came from a Destroyer. At least no Lasers are around.”
His wingmate landed nearby. “It has been some time since the order was given. Our objective may have perished in the meantime.”
“We’d still need confirmation of her TSF to get paid. Bringing her back alive just nets us a bonus.”
“That is true.” If it could, the machine would shrug as its pilot did. Instead, it seemed to stare down at the building intently. “Thermal scans cannot penetrate the building effectively--no, wait. Significant number of Tank-type BETA detected, as well as a Zuikaku tactical surface fighter. There’s a human...”
===
Yui screamed. She screamed with all her soul as she squeezed her pistol’s trigger. Again. Again. Bullets pinged off armor plate or buried itself uselessly into dark red flesh, not even distracting the spider-like Tank-class BETA from tearing into her friend’s craft. She was still screaming even as the slide locked back and the hammer clicked on an empty chamber. Yamashiro gazed helplessly back her friend, her eyes dull and empty. So this is how she would die. Not in honorable battle or in a blaze of glory, but ripped apart and eaten by monsters...
Then the roof caved in.
More accurately, the glass roof shattered as a multi-ton machine smashed through, landing on top of a Tank and squashing it flat. Its arm snapped out, a knife glimmering for a moment before impaling the BETA closest to her friend. Stab. Stab. The blade sliced through the small horde with surprising grace, like a surgeon excising cancers around a precious organ.
Yui could only stare in shock and awe. A small part of her mind identified the machine as an F-15 model, but not any color she could remember; a gunmetal grey with a dark red streak on the right arm. Was it American...?
No. Not American. The shoulder lacked the star and stripes of the American military. Rather, it had the insignia of a collarless dog.
A second TSF broke through another section of the roof, landing just behind the Eagle. A second Eagle, bearing a familiar melee halberd in one hand and assault cannon in the other. Its blade flashed, cutting down swaths of reddish Tank BETA while its gun chattered away.
The first F-15 slew the final beast surrounding the fallen Zuikaku, resheathing the knife before retrieving an assault cannon of its own and adding its fire to the battle.
“Cadet Takamura! Wake up and get to your squadmate!” A distinctly male voice speaking accented Japanese snapped Yui back to reality, her attention focusing on the foreign craft towering over her. “We are here to get you out. Inspect your squadmate for injuries then prepare for evac. Go!”
Yui broke into a sprint at that last word, scrambling up her friend’s TSF. Hovering nervously over the bloodied body of Yamashiro, she could only vaguely remember the steps she was supposed to take.
“Are... are you okay?” she gingerly touched her friend’s shoulder, giving her a gentle shake. “Kazusa? I’m right here.”
Yamashiro seemed outright catatonic, her empty gaze slowly sliding over to face Yui. Her suit was slick with her blood still leaking from her head.
“Can she be moved?” the man asked, still calm in spite of the battle.
“I don’t know! There’s just so much blood...!” Yui shouted back, terror threatening to completely crush her.
“Cadet,” the stranger’s chillingly calm voice was like ice water down her spine. “I need you to calm down and assess her injuries, but also do it quickly. Talk to her, ask her questions. We can hold, but not for long.”
An empty magazine clattered noisily as a fresh one replaced it, as if punctuating the man’s previous words. Fear gripped Yui’s heart and crushed her lungs, but she forced the air out.
“Kazusa! Are you hurt at all? Can you get out?”
“Yui?” Yamashiro murmured weakly, her voice nearly drowned out in gunfire. “I’m not dead...?”
Yui smiled, relief washing away the worry. Her friend seemed so frail now, a far cry from the proud and noble girl she had trained with. “I’m right here. You won’t be hurt anymore by those BETA, you hear me? We just need to get you out of here.”
“O-okay... Everything’s so blurry...”
“Can you move?”
“I... I think I can--Ahh!” she tried to move an arm and gasped in pain. “My arms... my leg! Oooh, everything hurts so much!”
“Please hurry. My ammunition will not last too long,” a new voice, young yet eerily calm, came from the other TSF. The first Eagle broke off from shooting to face the girls.
“Status?” he asked.
“I think she has a concussion and possible fractures. Maybe other problems too. I don’t think she can be moved easily!”
“Tsk. No choice then,” the voice growled, dropping the machine into a crouch and bringing a hand up as a bridge. The cockpit slid open with a messy hiss, a glop of BETA falling off the armor plate. Yui watched as a man in an unusual pilot suit climb out and jump over. It was a dark blue suit, like the UN forces’ colors, but that was where the similarities ended. It was closer to a suit of armor than the typical reinforced suit that pilots wore. Armor plates covered the chest, shoulders, arms, and legs, while a web-like harness of pouches was strapped around his waist and thighs. Even stranger was the presence of a full helmet, looking much like a futuristic knight’s helm with parallel horizontal optics that had a reddish glow to them. To her amazement, the helmet deconstructed itself in segmented pieces as it retracted to reveal his face: an older, stern-looking man with slate-blue eyes.
A foreigner?
“Help me patch her up,” he said without preamble, cracking open a medical kit. “I’ve no room in the cockpit for both of you. You will have to ride in my hands, at least until we get out of this danger zone.”
As many questions as she had, Yui pushed herself to reply, “I understand. Will she be okay?”
He spared the injured girl a glance, but he shook his head, “I don't know; I’m no medic. But, if we get her out of here and to real medical attention, I’m sure she’ll be fine. Where’s the rest of your squad?”
Yui froze, nearly dropping a package of bandages. She couldn’t say.
“I see. Let’s make sure you don’t end up the same.”
Emergency splints and bandages were hurriedly applied, Yamashiro crying out as a syrette of morphine pierced her thigh. By the time Yui finished fastening a neck brace, the man was already moving to pick Yamashiro up. He gently lifted her. “Hold her head steady.”
Yui quickly complied, brushing errant strands of hair out of her friend’s face as she followed them back to the F-15.
“Yui? What’s going on? What’s happening?!” the other girl moaned, thrashing weakly about in the man’s arms.
Yui placed a calming hand on the girl’s shoulder, moving to stay in her field of vision. “Kazusa, it’s okay! They’re here to rescue us! I’ll be right here with you!”
The F-15’s hand was surprisingly small, with just enough room for the two girls. Yui would hold onto her friend, braced against her body as they would rush back to base. Once the pilot had the two girls situated, he rushed back to the cockpit. The machine came alive again as it turned its head to face its newest passengers.
“Keep your friend still. I’ll try to keep this ride as smooth as possible.”
She nodded, ducking as the fingers slowly closed in around her. The other hand cupped over her, giving her a secure, if somewhat cramped space. There were likely other, safer options than this, but time was something they severely lacked. Suddenly, the whole thing lurched, and she felt her entire body pressed into the steel palm as air suddenly whipped all around her. Yui shivered in the chilly night air.
===
No sooner did the F-15 clear the building, the second TSF followed, leaving behind a still-growing horde of Tank-types. The interlude took only a few minutes, far shorter than how it felt like. The mercenaries could breath no sigh of relief, however, as moments after they left did a great beast come crashing through the building they just were in.
Over sixty meters tall, an ugly off-white and purple color with ten spear-like legs stomped through the former civic center like it was fragile sand castle. It was as grotesque as its brethren, it appeared like some tortured man impaled on something nasty and his body bent into unnatural positions. Thankfully, it didn’t seem like it wanted them. Yet.
“What the hell, a Fort-type is still here?!” Coach hissed, moving his fighter into a wide arc to avoid the beast. Higher speeds were forbidden, considering his cargo. “Pinocchio! We’re bugging out!”
“Acknowledged.”
Some part of him hoped that the creature would turn away and make a ruckus in another part of the city. To his luck, however, Coach juked to the side to avoid the monster’s stinger. Grimly, he noted just how easily it crushed reinforced concrete and steel.
“It is following.”
“You don’t say,” Coach growled, setting his mount pylons to aim his guns back. Twin 120mm cannons belched, each bullet capable of splattering the typical BETA. The Fort-type, however, was the largest known strain and not so easily put down.
“The girls can’t handle fancy maneuvers or too much speed. Take this thing down!”
“Acknowledged. Targeting limbs with one-twenty millimeter munitions.”
Pinocchio’s assault cannon barked thrice, ripping ugly and messy holes in the giant monster’s joints. The beast shuddered and stumbled, but it did not fall. Instead, it aimed its stinger-like weapon forward. A stinger stronger than diamond shot towards the fleeing machine like some grotesque harpoon.
“Coach, incoming!”
Coach dropped his TSF to street level, feet scraping the asphalt as the stinger tore through his machine’s shoulder. “Damn!”
“Are you harmed?”
He could feel the F-15 shudder from the damage, but he did not seem too badly affected. “I’m fine. Minor damage to shoulder, and acid’s gonna eat my missile rack.” With a click, he switched frequencies to his passengers. “You two alright in there?”
“We’re fine, but are you okay?”
“Just fine. We’ll be out of danger shortly.”
“Please be careful!”
Easier said than done, he wanted to growl. The Fort was still behind him, too.
“Why is that not dead yet?!”
“It is proving to be a hardy one. I am reloading.”
“Nevermind. I’m hitting it with Sidewinders,” Coach growled, toggling the frequency switch again. “Heads up. Missiles active.”
Yui’s reply brought a smirk to his face. “S-show it hell!”
“Brace yourselves.”
Without slowing its vector, the F-15 spun around and faced its monstrous pursuer. Coach grinned viciously as his HUD beeped with lock-ons.
“Cheerio, bitch.”
A salvo of missiles tore from their cradle, screaming through the air and slamming into the large creature in a bloom of fire, shrapnel, and gore. Just the same, Pinocchio added his share with barrage of his assault cannon. The Fort-type was nearly consumed entirely in the inferno, groaning as its flesh finally collapsed in on itself. Its death throes crushed another building as it fell, but it made no further movements. For a moment, Pinocchio’s TSF hovered over it.
“It is dead,” he announced before rejoining his wingmate.
“That was far more trouble than its worth. Let’s get out of here.”
---
Asuka Base, like Takao Base before it, was one of several temporary bases established to facilitate Imperial and allied forces in the defense of Japan. Located near the evacuation lines, it had a field hospital for both civilian and military medevacs, making it a prime location for evacuees. It was a glimmer of hope for those escaping, and only a brief respite for those still fighting.
With its precious cargo still cupped in its hands, a certain F-15 and wingman approached the base.
“Asuka Base Tower, this is Stray Dog oh-one. Requesting clearance to land. Mission-critical objectives in hand. Over.”
“T-Tower. Err--Roger, Stray Dog one. Oh-seventeen being cleared for you. Over.”
“Be advised: I have injured personnel in need of medical attention. Multiple fractures. Concussion. Possible spinal damage. Over”
“Roger. Medics have been alerted, Stray Dog one. Over.”
“Thank you. Coming in now. Out.”
By the landing strip, he could see the lights of medical vehicles waiting. Nice and easy then, low and slow. Coach brought the F-15 in gently, coming to a stop near the gathered vehicles. With a gentleness not normally observed in tactical surface fighters, he opened his hands to reveal two girls, both appearing thoroughly exhausted, but none for the worse. Just as the medics secured the girls and gave him the clear signal, his communicator squawked.
A tiny part of him hoped it would be something nice for once, rather than more work.
“Stray Dog one, Asuka Tower. New orders. Over.”
God dammit. “Stray Dog oh-one. Send. Over.”
“Refuel and rearm, then deploy to grid sierra-three-alpha-four. Assist friendlies in evac. Over.”
No rest for the bloody wicked. “Stray Dog oh-one, confirm: deploy to grid sierra-three-alpha-four and assist friendlies. Over.”
“Affirmative. Sixth S-A-D personnel in hanger four. They are ready to receive you. Over”
“Stray Dog oh-one, roger, wilco. Out.”

Extra Info
6th Special Activities Division
Established primarily as an UN division for mercenaries and freelance pilots in the East Asian theatre, it is a pocket of a secret shame and grudging respect for the Imperial Japanese military, as they (the Japanese) must call upon not only the UN, but foreign ronin to protect Japan. Members from the 6th SAD come from all over the world, responding to the cry for help---or perhaps, the promise of good pay---and take part in dangerous missions that the Japanese military cannot take part in. The Division consists of active pilots, their support teams, transports, and logistics.
16th Special Operations Group - “Stray Dogs” Squadron
A loosely knit group of mercenaries in it for the money and the girls. At least, that’s what most of them say. Enough money will have them do anything, from patrols to direct action against the BETA, or even human targets. They are derogatorily called the “Sad Soggies.”
The 16th SOG, or Stray Dogs, are an unusual bunch. They have operated in Europe, the Middle East, China, Russia, and now Japan. Curious is their use of American-made TSFs, despite having operated in European, African, and Asian theatres exclusively.

Have the TARDIS fall in through a crack in the universe made by the G-bombs.
Actually the TARDIS can travel to alternative universes. This is how the Doctor meet the Cybus Cybermen.
Speaking of aliens, if the Sonatrons, Cybermen and Daleks fought the BETA, who would win?
DoomRavager
2012-09-24, 05:12
Wasn't travelling to Pete's world a complete freak accident that left the TARDIS almost powerless? Though the Doctor mentioned that the pre-Time War Time Lords were perfectly capable of travelling between universes, then went all NO IT IMPOSSIBLE during the Canary Wharf debacle where that was the Daleks' fault for making cracks between the universes with the void ship. Which is also why Rose was inaccessible after that until Davros started dicking around and breaking spacetime.
I'd guess the Daleks at least have more than enough firepower to deal with the BETA. Probably the Cybermen too. And I guess the Sontarans.
BETA are pretty smalltime against spacefaring races with heavy firepower to match.

Exactly that. But then again, the BETA are effectively miners. Most space-faring races will have an easy time blasting them from orbit.
What we should be considering a proper match is perhaps a security/invasion strain of fleet ?

Maybe Scrin from Command & Conquer:Tiberium Wars?
They are miners too,at least what from we can see now.

The Scrin military forces we saw were just the Scrin's version of a backwater low grade PMC.

Mind you, that's according to Peptuck, who gave them major boosts for Renegade. I wouldn't totally consider that to be true... though it's probably likely.

The Scrin military forces we saw were just the Scrin's version of a backwater low grade PMC.This was my impression of both the Scrin and the BETA. But later, the Scrin got more kick to come to Earth, and at least had warships, carriers and little flying objects as part of their standard force.
That's why I feel that the BETA is oddly lacking. The lack of aircraft being one, amongst other things that I can't quite comment on until I finish the game.
@Goose: I was thinking that as figurative speech. I doubt the Hive has any PMCs of any kind, but perhaps the Hive found the tiberium expense of sending a larger/proper invasion force wanting for the amount of gain.
Of course, to fully substantiate my theory I'd need to play the monstrosity of C&C5... and I really doubt it be worth my time, considering how butchered the story was by then.

Kha, what JohnxCortana117 and I were talking about was how the Scrin were portrayed in Renegade (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Fanfic/Renegade), Peptuck's Tiberium Wars/Mass Effect Crossover. Peptuck gave the Scrin a significant boost, and noted that the force in the Tiberium Wars game was the equivalent of a PMC with technicals. That is precisely what we were talking about.
ALso, you wanna write about anything, play the goddamned game, FFS.

BETA are MINING machines, they have no reason to think "hey let's mine stuff from the skies!!"

Also with the Laser-Class, they basically own the skies. No need to waste resources on something that could be spent on the other BETA classes.

@Goose: ...no wonder. I thot you guys were talking about a character from the C&C Renegade game, which I thot I was sure had not much Scrin, and no one called Peptuck.
ALso, you wanna write about anything, play the goddamned game, FFS.MLA applies, but I really doubt C&C5 is worth writing about...
BETA are MINING machines, they have no reason to think "hey let's mine stuff from the skies!!"I know. That's what I meant by a different strain, by pitting our lovely xover ideas against a BETA hive fleet bred for all-out invasions and not rock grinding.
Also with the Laser-Class, they basically own the skies. No need to waste resources on something that could be spent on the other BETA classes.Except Lasers fail against every space-faring xover suggestion we've come up with. That was what led me to make my original statement. We're comparing apples and oranges when pitting space navies against what essentially is a effective stopgap against a non-space-faring piece of technology...

We were talking about C&C3.
