The anime is coming out soon and the translation for the manga is up to the 3rd chapter. I hope someone will translate the novel.

I like what I've read so far.

After reading 6volumes(from chinese translation), I realize that all the main characters has someone that wants/like(love) them.

Just one question- there's strong indication that the Anime is going to be 24 episodes, without revealing any plot points, what are the likelihood they'll oneshot the series ala Toradora? Is there enough material to do so? Is the story reaching it's climax?

There is. I don't think they will animate the whole series, but I'm not up to the latest volume, there is a possibility that the latter volumes will be even better to end.
If they don't animate all of the volumes, they can still end it well while having the possibility of making season 2.

If they don't animate the whole series, the ending will most probably something like the anime for kokoro connect, but even better.

the graduation of the 2 senpai (Jin and Misaki), but it wouldn't give a proper conclusion to the main couple.

But I really like their romance though.
I thought the author did quite a fine job on their romance.
In fact their romance is my favourite part(as in story) in the novel.

They are childhood friend and their romance mirror the main couple. Girl is genius(talented) but guy is normal and he struggles. He feels that he is not good enough for her.

Just seen the three chapters and nothing really impressed me that much. Typical playboy, the adult who shirks their duties, clueless female and MC that is walked on by everybody else. Maybe it's one of those slow starter type of stories and gets better as the story goes on...

Mizoguchi Keiji's art is so... damn. Hhhnnngggghghh-inducing to say the least.

Also in some illustrations I thought Sorata looked like Keiji's render of Akihisa Yoshii in his BakaTest doujin. Which, coincidentally, was about Yuuko (Hideyoshi's twin) coming over to Akihisa's house to tutor him... which ended up into a gaming session instead. Considering it's Mizoguchi Keiji, of course it is SFW.

But she's just a supporting character and she doesn't appear much.
Nowadays practically every light novel has a sister with brother complex so I wouldn't consider her as part of the harem.

I think that still do not like the romance between Jin and Misaki. Jin in love with her, but he goes out with her sister and then becomes a playboy, I do not like that story (I think that hurts more to Misaki). Maybe I dislike the situation because I do not like playboys characters. .

Anyone familiar with the LN know how faithfully the manga adaptation is?The anime does thing differently from the manga so I was wondering which is closer,though of the two I definitely prefer the anime.

Just take the meeting between Sorata and Shiina,the manga doesn't have the sunset + chery blossoms + train going by like the anime does.Nanami hasn't even appeared in the manga yet and she's introduced in the first episode. Mitaka is introduced differently in the anime and manga as well.

In regard to the discussion about the difference of anime episode 3 and the source material (novel volume 1 and to the lesser extent, manga episode 8), here's what they alter in anime episode 3:



First at all, the first GF of Jin is Misaki's elder sister, hence Misaki didn't even need to stalk this couple in order to know the detail. Misaki does talk about that on both novel and manga. For some reason the anime adaptation didn't reveal that. I myself wonder will they (JC staff) reveal that later on.

Secondary, the anime adaptation did cut out the "umbrella" plot (before and after Jin and Shiina "dating"), which play a important part (IMO) to change their relationship back to normal -- or in the other word, to another phase ( you could find that in the whole manga episode 7, and the majority part of episode 11, hence that's why I'm surprised they cut those section out altogether)

Anyway, after going back to read the novel and manga once again, I have a strong feeling that the anime adaptation may try to resolve it with alternative plot at the beginning of next episde (4), if they want to stay faithful with the main plot of the original material source.

Although I begin to worry about the possibility of finishing the whole story in 24 episode length -- they didn't even finish the story of the novel volume 1 yet ! Well we've been using the word "toradora-ing" , and so far its following the toradora model,from what I remember Toradora took 4 episodes to cover vol1 but then sped things up and covered all remaining 9 novels in 21 episodes.

So I expect something similar here,that means I doubt 5.5 and 7.5 get adapted,maybe as OVAs later on if we're lucky.

Is there really any chance of Nanami actually winning? I sincerely hope not, since Mashiro is the primary love interest and easily the best girl, and I don't particularly understand, if this is actually the case, why the author would actually leave the ending of their story up to fan voting.

Plus, from all I've heard, Mashiro has always been the preferred girl by Sorata himself and is much more deeply ingrained into the core of the story than Nanami has ever been, so it's a somewhat strange direction to take.
Regardless, I assume Mashiro would win that vote handily.

Alright I've finished the last chapter of volume 2:

I can't help but feel that the main story of this volume is dealing with failure, first with Nanami's failure, and ending it off with Sorata's failure. It might be abit too much so perhaps that's why the Anime wanted to spread it out by introducing Yuuko first? That's not to say the entire chapter was depressing (just bittersweet at the end) as it compensates by having some standard romcom stuff inbetween- they were fun but hardly anything revolutionary and can easily be placed elsewhere.

Note I haven't started on vol 3 and 5 yet so I don't know how thinks are going to work for Rita and Yuuko, but if I were to speculate... Episode 7 and 8 would be Yuuko + hints of the letters from England, and ends with Sorata's interview. Then maybe episode 9 would be light hearted with the Swimming pool trip, before tackling the meat of volume 3 which would be Rita and 'Dragon' debut to end off the first half.

I'm just guessing from the illustrations, feel free to correct me if you like :heh:

Interesting; the majority of what I've read seems to indicate a clear and rather large preference for Mashiro. Of course, it could certainly go either way, but I can't particularly envision a scenario that involves anyone but the main female interest winning.

Just finished the first half of Volume 3... Now I don't know if it's because of my pathetic language skills at work, but it was almost a drag going through the whole 'cold shoulder' phase after Rita's introduction into the story. That's one segment that I wouldn't mind going through a good trimming for the Anime... Though the 'make-up' was very sweet so I sort of forgive... But I can see why Jin refers to Rita as the 'Evil Witch', she certainly played that role well. Also, people who had a problem with Nanami might not find alot of reasons to change their minds in this first half... Just saying...

1) Wow, they actually pulled off a "final mad dash to the airport scene" :eyespin: I can't remember when's the last time I saw that happen on screen :heh: But it's too bad I saw the punch line a mile away :p Heck, they even threw in a "one last night sleeping together" scene the previous day.

2) Mashiro's father is actually a pretty cool guy- I was worried that he would be just another tight-assed control freak but he turns out to be a very relatable parent. Of course there's a limit to everything- you can't just passionately embrace his precious daughter in front of him Sorata :eyespin:

1. Kazuki Fujisawa (the game developer whose work was the inspiration for Sorata's first game) was either a former resident of Sakurasou who may or may not have got out of SS or may have later on led a successful career, if not a normal life; or at least knew about Sakurasou. In either case, there's another theory that both he and Chihiro-sensei knew of each other.

If Episode 8 of the anime is to be believed, Fujisawa-sensei is actually quite surprised to see a Suiko student making it to the first round of the game making contest where he was one of the judges. Since making games at that level is something usually associated with the people of Sakurasou (strange and quirky but GODLY in what they do), one could say that either he assumes Sorata was a Sakurasou resident or simply that there must be something so special about him that piqued his interest.

2. Yuuko-chan will become a Sakurasou resident herself, but only if she develops a Sakurasou-level talent in something. From her (as of date) only appearance, her talent is apparently in singing, so she has the potential to become Suiko's resident Idol Singer if she managed to get in there. It does help that she gets along with the current Sakurasou tenants pretty well.

But unlike her brother Sorata, who took his new status as a Sakurasou resident pretty badly at first, she would be very proud of it despite the stigma attached to the status because she found that the Sakurasou residents are actually really great people.

However, by the next year (when Yuuko now becomes a high school student herself), Jin and Misaki are out (since they will have already graduated), so she's left with Sorata, Mashiro (if she never leaves for England), Dragon (b/c Ryuunosuke is quite long), and Nanami (though Yuuko dislikes her).

Nonetheless, given her energy, she's good enough to be Misaki 2.0.

I smell ship sinking here. Not that I care too much about it, though. Tsunderes win like 80% of the time, after all.

1. Saori was an ex-Sakurasou resident who somehow got out of "the dorm for problem children" and was traumatized by the stigma attached to the name. Misaki should have known her for quite some time to make up a nickname for her which was very different from her given name. Sorata (Kouhai-kun) and Jin (no nickname) are exceptions, of course, since she has taken a liking to both guys, especially Jin, who is her childhood friend.

2. Souichirou and Jin used to be either best friends or very good rivals in school, until Jin landed to Sakurasou, much to Souichirou's disappointment.

3. Jin, Saori, and Souichirou (the student council president) somehow got involved in a love triangle which may or may not have caused Jin's transfer to Sakurasou.

Any updates on Rita/Dragon? I'm starting to love this pairing since Jin/Misaki is pretty much a given. Also, is there any more hints about Kazuki Fujisawa asides from the fact that he was an alumnus of Suimei High?

The near end of vol 08 gives an answer to the love triangle and I blame a bit on Nanami for not being a bit aggressive in the story. Its kinda a weakness for a tsundere if they remain the same.

Considering that tsunderes of any type get a lot of flak for being indecisive about love for too long in the story, remember that normal teenagers (Mashiro definitely isn't) are actually like that in real life. They stumble in romance no matter how mature or childish they are for their age. This is also part of the reason why people hate male anime protagonists as well.

But anyways, I would honestly find it creepy to see Nanami become aggressive all of a sudden. As Jin implied when Nanami first entered Sakurasou, "The more reserved the girl is, the more active her imagination is".

Yes, you heard right. The anime is scheduled for 24. So there's a lot of room for development and faithful Light Novel adaptation. There must be a reason why the potential ending is compared to that of Toradora, which anime adaptation was finished just about the same time as the Light Novel.

I have a question for those that read the Light Novel. Which is truer to the novel the manga or the anime? In the Anime Misaki when he woke Mashiro up she was completely nude. Now in the manga she has a shirt on just no panties. Also in the Anime he had to find her clothes for her to wear but again in the manga all he did was brush out her hair and leave when she started to remove her shirt to get dressed.

So the manga has her as not the clueless type girl and alot less ecchi than the Anime so which is more to the novel because in this case I really prefer the Anime over the manga which is usually not the case.

After vol 9 there is still one more volume left. Not sure if it will be vol 10 or vol 9.5 (side story). So vol 9 will be released on the month the anime will end. I think the anime will definitely cover up to vol 8 but I'm not sure how it will go after that. There are 3 possibilities I can think of on how the anime will end:

1. The anime will finish vol 8's story at around ep 22 and the rest will be anime original (or with some parts are from vol 9) with an ending different to the LN.
2. The anime will finish at vol 9's story with the same ending to the LN.
3. The anime will cover up to vol 9's story and will have an ending very different to the LN. The ending will be completely different or there will be some similarity with the ending in vol 10.

I am hoping it's #2, but that's possible if the last volume is vol 9.5 side story and vol 9 is the last of the main story. From the synopsis of vol 9 it's very likely that the last volume will be vol 10 and so it's likely the anime will end up either #1 or #3.

The "kiss" in volume 5 was supposed to take place in Valentine, after Sorata and Mashiro returns to Sakurasou, and it was changed to the current version in TVA. (And before people start complaining, I think that the current version is good in its own way; the original scene ends up being more of a background funny event with no significance whatsoever).

Also, Yuuko's number (xxxx99) not showing up is in the original novel. She does attend Sui-high later on though, because of something that is quite Yuuko-like. Although from the look of things, it seems that we won't get that far (the anime will likely end at volume 6; Sorata doesn't find out that Yuuko will attend anyways until volume 7 starts).

The series will end at vol 10 so if there will be a second season it will only need to be a one-cour series (12-13 episodes) that is enough to cover vol 7-10. It will cover the new school year, which Sorata, Mashiro, Nanami and Ryuunosuke are in their 3rd year. I am more interested that the new season will primarily be about Sorata and Mashiro's relationship. The first half will cover vol 7-8, about Sorata and Mashiro trying to tell their feelings toward each other. The second half will then cover vol 9-10, what happens after Sorata and Mashiro become a couple.

The possibility of the anime getting a second season is not high but still likely. The anime is produced by JC Staff which is a good thing. Most JC Staff anime adapted from popular light novel series had more than one season or their story completed. The average BD/DVD sales for Sakurasou will probably be about 3000 per volume which is quite average, but some JC Staff series managed to get another season even though the first season sold less than 3,000. Since the second season of Sakurasou will only need to be a one-cour series, it should cost much less to produce it.

Episode 23 is called "Graduation Ceremony" which will most likely cover the rest of vol 6's story. I found in wikipedia that the last episode is called "Welcome to Sakurasou". I'm not sure if this is true but if it is then this means the season will end at near the beginning of vol 7 where the new tenants of Sakurasou are introduced or it will be an anime original ending.

Guess we won't know how this season will end until the last episode airs. I just hope it will end in a way for a second season to be possible.
