Synopsis

The Circumstances Leading to Waltraute's Marriage (ヴァルトラウテさんの婚活事情) is a light novel written by Kamachi Kazuma (鎌池 和馬) and illustrated by Nagiryo (凪良). Kamachi Kazuma is also known for the Toaru Majutsu no Index series and the Heavy Object series.

In the world of Norse mythology, a human boy falls in love with Waltraute, the fourth Valkyrie sister. He wishes to marry her, but Waltraute gives him an impossible challenge to deter him. Nevertheless, the boy is determined to carry out the dangerous task and to marry Waltraute afterwards.

And at long last, my ambition for this thread to exist here, now achieved! Currently translation of the first chapter has started. Discussions, go!

All of this reminds me of the conversation I had with my friend recently about potentially going to go see an opera. The Canadian Opera Company is doing Il Trovatore soon, and he wants to go to that, but on the topic of other operas or even going to see the symphony.. He is less enthusiastic.

Er, the second, actually.. And all I can say is, wow.. I am actually SUPER impressed and more than a little in awe .. Did my heart just skip a beat? :innocent:

For those that don't know .. here's a -snip- from Wikipedia on the "Ring Cycle" -- "The four operas of Richard Wagner's cycle Der Ring des Nibelungen together take about 15 hours, which makes for several records, tapes, or CDs, and a lot of studio time." (FYI, I believe the sets are 7-8 DVDS or ~15 CDs)

Keep in mind, even the "Das Boat" uncut version is less than 5 hours long .. :twitch:

Finally read a bit of it in between breaks, and I have to firmly agree with the "メタ発言の多いラブコメ。" comment I saw before about this. I also like the take on the old Norse concepts; makes me think of Horizon (only with Norse foundations) and Shirogane no Soleil mixed in for some odd reason.

The point is, western adaption/parodies of mythology seem to be decidedly straight forward most of the time- Good is portray as Heroic Good, Bad is portray as Cartoonish Bad.

So, I actually went and read the currently translated chapters on BT .. and oh my, this story is kind of adorable, although the "frenetic emotions" of Waltraute could potentially get tiresome in the future.. this is the first volume so far it was only released about 2 months ago at most with the author also releasing 2 more in total series into work as well

To be exact, the individual chapters were originally articles for the dengeki magazine once every two months, after the third chapter they compiled it and release it as a proper volume with one additional new chapter.

Whether or not this would be a one shot experiment or a new series remains to be seen.

I was under the impression Waltraute charged to Odin's throne, while Heimdallr remained at the Bifröst with Freyja? The only ones near Odin were Frigg and Thor.

In the end the novel turned out to be a better read than I expected. I especially loved all the references to Norse mythology and the fourth-wall breaking. Jack turned out to be a different kind of hero, one suitable of a love comedy, but still a hero. Nice of Siegfried to entrust Brynhildr to Jack, I always felt sad for those two. Interesting afterword by Kamachi as always, I'm hoping this isn't just a oneshot.

What are you talking about? Explicit romance elements that touches the MCs do exist in Index ... it's just that people always forgot that Hamazura has a girlfriend, and had a love story in which he travels through the frozen plains of Russia to save her ... and that he's a cool and nice guy
