" Bradley Bond & Philip Ninj@ Morzez"'s light novel series Ninja Slayer is going to be adapted by studio Trigger.
Synopsis:
The "cyberpunk ninja action drama" is set in the near-
future city of Neo Saitama and follows Fujikido Kenji, a
salaryman whose wife and children were killed in a ninja
battle. Thus, he became a ninja slayer, devoted to killing
all ninja to avenge his family.
The American creators, "Bradley Bond and Philip Ninj@
Morzez," gave permission to a team to translate and post
the story piecemeal on Twitter. After the story grew in
popularity, Enterbrain published the first Japanese-
translated volume in print, Ninja Slayer: Neo Saitama in
Flames, in September 2012. The story then inspired three
comic adaptations from Enterbrain and Kodansha, as well
as a audio drama with Toshiyuki Morikawa as the title character.

The "American writers" are fabrication by the Japanese "translators", who are the real authors of the series.
The series itself is a parody of Western stereotypes on Japanese ninja.
Thats why the " " is often used to describe the authors.

Episode 1:
Meh...that wasn't as good as I had hoped for. I mean, action was okay I guess and Ninja Slayer's on-screen debut had some impressions. Just felt animation style was odd although I can't say I'm surprised by it and its similarity in the style because of the director.
ED song seems kinda decent at least though.
as expected slightly higher budget inferno cops

Seeing as this is a web animation and not a full-fledged TV series I'm way more forgiving of the low budget animation and short episode lengths. This feels more like a Trigger side-project of sorts. In fact I got a few laughs out of the extremely simplistic animation. I think the art style looks really damn cool and I find the OP song not half bad either.
I'm sufficiently entertained.~

I'm surprised with Trigger using Inferno Cop animation style.
If its an original, I wouldn't ask why-- But this is an adaptation, isn't it? At least they should make it better ...

The same feeling I had while I watched the first episode. This show has the look and feel of an Adult Swim show. Look at that explosions!
Nonetheless it is definitely not a show for everyone and probably most people are not gonna enjoy it. If you get into its craziness you are probably gonna enjoy it a lot since it is a show that all the time plays with what you expect and what you really get.
I really don't know if it can sustain itself on the long run. For me it works better as a one time gag, but we will see...

Wow...the animation is only good when it needs to be good fo budget reasons perhaps?
Either way it's a fresh new look, but as mentioned on previous comments it's similar to Inferno Cop. I've watched Inferno Cop and it seems this is a lot better than ala South Park flat animation they pulled there.
I'm really intrigue more on the story on this one, but it's really hilarious when you get those slide show animation. Needs more episodes to know where this is going. 8/10.
Also don't forget the Figma Ninja Slayer! It's really badass.

Episode 1:
Man, this Trigger anime is so bad that it's so damn good! Still, it's sucks that I'll have to wait for 2 weeks for the next episode (or wait for 2016 for a proper TV anime).
Was not expecting something like this. Animation was so bad, it was funny, but I don't think I can watch any more episodes like this. I'm going to pass on this one.
Gan_HOPE326
2015-04-17, 03:57
I have to say, I liked Inferno Cop a lot, but this had at the same time a lower rate of jokes and a longer runtime, so it packed less of a punch to me. In addition, the fact that they DID use some good animation in fights kind of kills the "powerpoint animation" joke too. Dunno. It just feels like Inferno Cop except with less guts to go all the way. I don't know how it can hold for one season.
DragoonKain3
2015-04-17, 11:00
My biggest beef with this is that they claimed to have this to be only 15 minutes because of lots of action scenes, which was true I guess. But seriously, with the 'bad' animation, I thought they would've been able to make this a full episode in its own right.
Otherwise, pretty funny actually. YYEAAARRT!
I was expecting an anime with proper animation and a stupid premise executed seriously (kind of like Afro Samurai), not Inferno Cop 2.0. This is just plain shit. Never dropped anything this fast.

I kind of had a good laugh at the way they "animated" the thing. Well, I'll just say there's a need for a break against all those commonly excellent animations, if I may say so. :heh:
Also for a low-score ranker it boasts one hell of a soundtrack. Liked the one where Fujiki-- err, Ninja Slayer was running through the highways eating sushi. And that scene was hilarious I just can't stop replaying it. :heh:
1 episode is barely enough to judge a series.
Maybe the slideshow animations are just for fun and the next ones get normal and proper animations? It's Trigger, you never know!
First half was soso with the slide thing, second half was better until that last bit with the slide thing.

2015-04-17, 19:54
I just hope only the dialogue scene would contain the stiff animations, but the main fighting and other scenes should be well animated as seen in if serious the animation is pretty darn badass.

For those who might be interested in the source material, I just made a thread for it in the Manga/LN section.
I kind of gained some understanding why Trigger made it the way it is, but I have to admit they could've given it a... kinder treatment by giving it some serious animation. Well, from what I heard that will come sometime around next year, but I guess for now let's just watch it for the fun of it shall we? :heh:
(At least I now know the name of that blonde biker chick in the OP and what she does in the story. :heh: )
Well, from what I heard that will come sometime around next year, but I guess for now let's just watch it for the fun of it shall we? :heh:
So the tv version will have new animation? Is that confirmed?
Well, i understand why they wouldn't air something like this on tv. :heh:
So the tv version will have new animation? Is that confirmed?

No, they've mentioned something about a 2016 TV broadcast, but there are no concrete details. For all we know, it might be a mere joke (and will never happen....at the end of the day, the main purpose of their announcement was to stress their emphasis on modern viewing habits and delivery methods) or a slightly enhanced version.
The video discs go on sale soon, so this seems to be the real thing. It's obviously an attempt to monetize the overseas hype around Inferno Cop (which caused quite a stir but was never designed to make money....IIRC, Trigger even tried to bait a reaction from Americans by hinting at a hypothetical Inferno Cop 2 at AX 2014. Turns out they had nothing planned on that end, and it was a ruse to get people anticipating something on social media, etc.), and the global streaming strategy seems intended to promote a similar stir.

"Turn brain off" fun, I like it. Also helps that eps 2 has less flash animation and more movement.
Wow, I''m really getting used to the style.
This feels very Triggeresque. They have got this one down.
I am actually pretty intrigued by this show to be honest.
The unique style that they are building up for through their animation really feels distinct even if it is an adaptation.
Hmm... this is really good. I think I'm going to like this possible even more than Kill la Kill as this goes on.
I'm surprised this is actually working.
I just realized that this really ISN'T bad animation. It's really hard to come up with the idea of giving this sort of style a very consistent feel. It's very interesting... I have to say...

Seems they heard and listened to the fans, the still animations are now less only a total of 5 scenes. When they got into the limo that was hilarious! :heh: first boss fight intro, running, second boss fight, power up mode and rematch.
Well the animation style is awesome when it needs to be awesome and the sudden still animations is kinda hilarious. This is entertainment, not to be taken too seriously, but it's story is indeed serious.

I'm really not sure what to think of this. Let's start with the positive things: the series knows how to prioritize the fight scenes with wacky yet consistent animation, the color palette fit the tone and there's some instances of black humor in the midst of a serious story. On the negative side, I don't really like how the non-battle scenes are portrayed, I mean I get that this is from the director of Inferno Cop considering his stylistic direction choice, the big difference is that the latter doesn't take itself seriously, had little plot and provides focus on random stuff through the use of comedy, something that Ninja Slayer fails to do.
My impressions towards this series is similar to Samurai Flamenco, a series riddled with mixed aspects regarding the story and characters but still entertaining regardless. I actually laughed at some scenes, particularly the slideshow parts even if I feel sad it's not the way it was handled. I'll keep watching and then look forward to the special edition airing next year in case anyone wants to watch a version that's guaranteed to be fully animated.
Nooooo!
Too much story and animation in episode 4, i'm disappointed :/
Hmm, I'm curious about this Yukano girl now...pretty sure she will be appearing quite a bit this season and I want to know the true extent of her new powers.

Wow they're toning down the still animations only a couple now. One is the school gang raid and the other is the jail scene.
From the beginning it was a rape scene and Yamato became a ninja similar to our protagonist. Yamato and the other guy now named Suicide because he committed suicide and landed on Yamato, interestingly there are two dead ninja spirits that possessed them.
Very interesting plot line wonder how will this tie in Ninja Slayer?

That is a bit forgivable and not really noticeable and they can get away with it since it's not Ninja Slayer and the baddies who are getting the south park treatment the minor characters are.
Same here they better not half ass the Ninja Slayer and Dark Ninja fight, I'm hoping it will still have the flashy animations and not the slide show.
Yay, finally back to simple animation fights and cheap jokes!
Will Ninja Slayer survive the banzai nuke!?!.. guess we have to wait for next week

ep.6 WTF?! What happened to continuity? They shifted to another battle or we can go on ahead and say Ninja Slayer defeated Dark Ninja? I'm confused?!!
Either way the South Park animation is back, if I'm piecing it right the opening when Ninja Slayer got injured he fought the Dragon Dojo and was taken care off.
Also cliffhanger?! YEEEEEEAAAAARRRRRTTTTT!!!!!
and yes Yukano reminds me of Kazumi's alternate costume in DOA with a longer hair style. Also all the budget gone to the animate Yukano? lol :heh:

Ninja Slayer already knew Gendoso in the episode. He said that Gendoso saved him twice. The next episode will be a flashback of how he met Gendoso and Yukano.

This week's episode didn't say about the battle between Ninja Slayer and Dark Ninja.
On the other hand, Ninja Slayer spinning his body like a helicopter (while having his head remain stationary) makes SHAFT Head Tilt looked pale in comparison!

"Continuity"? What is this "continuity" you speak of, and why in the world would you expect to find it in this series?
Seriously, though, read the tone of the series. I had to shake my head at all the people last week who were going on about how great it was that we'd see Ninja Slayer versus DarkNinja this week, and how awesome that would be, because I knew that as disjointed a series as this is, there was almost no chance that they would indeed give us the payoff of that meeting this week. Continuity-wise, I fully expect this series to make Space Dandy look like Death Note.

Looks like this week's episode has two stories: One involves Nancy being saved by Ninja Slayer (obviously), the other is Ninja Slayer not fighting an evil ninja and instead having a chat with an old guy... Oh my Buddha!

Fanservice Nancy! I WANT MORE OF DAT ASS!!! and that boob! All the budget has gone there along with her drooling. I think she likes getting tied up lol.
In the end I'm not sure if Nancy trusts Ninja Slayer.
I don't think we give this series enough credit for its sound track. Some of the EDs, specially, have been really awesome.
Oh, and they dressed Nancy up as a something very cheap. Trigger be Trigger.

Caught up again. This series is so great. :D I'm glad I waited like 6 weeks before continuing.
Each individual episode has been good, but all together they were pretty great, have to say.
Yeah, the show finally has a plot, and an interesting one at that. Also, it's doing a great job of making fun of what it's supposed to.
The fanservice budget versus the animation budget for everything else is the best.
Also, I just have to comment (since I didn't the first time) about the time they broke into the lab under that windmill ... she unzipped her suit completely... and then zipped it up again lol.
This show is great. :heh:

And Nancy was all tied up. And I'm still not sure why. (Unless that's known as a "lobster" binding. I really don't want to google that, either.)

ep.18 - Yukano/Amnesia-san super cute in casual clothes, Ninja Slayer failed to convince her to go back with him.
ep.19 - Nancy getting choked and her files hacked, Ninja Slayer helps with domestic abuse and probably got some if you know what I mean lol :heh: and pretty much killed 4 forgettable ninja's off screen.
The length and animation really is the main prob here, but the story is great.

It continues on in the novel series. Still can't find the translations.
I really want to know how Yamoto bonded with Ninja Slayer and become his comrade in the Kyoto Hell on Earth Arc. She is in this arc more than the previous one. I wonder she became a geisha?
I also wonder if Yukano regained her memories as there is a novel volume dealing with the history of the Dragon Clan and their rivalry with an enemy clan who is present day come to exterminate the Dragon bloodline.
Again, really interested in the Kyoto Hell on Earth arc and the Nina Slayer Never Dies arc.

Ninja slayer doesn't end with anyone, there are individual heroine arc which is scale as Yukano > nancy > agatha. Generally Yukano is considering the main heroine during the final arc and her side story along with their interaction, and the fact that she is the only girl is a Ninja(dragon ninja), on 1 ss confirmed 3 of them are heroine. Yamoto isn't really interact much with NS . The dragon clan is mentioned in Kyoto in hell and NS never die
All in NS is not that great as a novel in my opinion, the interaction between characters is one of the main problems, the action scene and plot line is rather generic, the novel selling point is only their characterisation and their unique setting

sorry for dug up this thread but seriously i need to get this off my chest after watching the anime ( yes i know i am late for it ) .
What happen to Yukano after Saitama in flame arc , will she recover her memory and is Ninja Slayer right to leave her with communist ninja group who will do terrible thing and in the future he will sure to kill Tetsuo thus getting in the way of Amnesia ? Ninja Slayer kinda a doomed soul at this point , his original family ded , his second one basically gone and he won't be able to fulfill Gengoro request and forever on a bloody path of Yeeart out ninja .
For a series that is 7 years old i can't find any information or spoiler and it really messing my feeling so i want to lay it to rest ....
