The Legend of Heroes and Ys developer Falcom has announced Tokyo Xanadu, a brand new “urban myth action RPG” due out in Japan as the developer’s “first title of fiscal 2015.”
Tokyo Xanadu is set “Morimiya City,” which is located on the outskirts of Tokyo. It revolves around the fates of two high schoolers, Kou and Asuka, as they traverse through Xanadu, an otherworldly labyrinth, in a grand scale story.
Platforms were not announced.
It might be worth noting that Falcom released a game in 1985 called Xanadu, which was the second entry in the Dragon Slayer series. Although that game has a fantasy setting, while this one has a modern day setting.

*Blasts into thread* Did someone say Falcom!? :D
Anyways, nice to see they're returning to a past franchise aside from Ys/LOH (I think the last Xanadu game was Next, which came out..... about 10 years ago, I think?). The fact that it's apparently in a real world setting is interesting as well, since most Falcom titles usually take place in a fantasy setting. Well, I'll be keeping my eyes peeled on this one! :)

Did someone say Action RPG?!
You mean like Tales? Or like Souls?

Okay I got my answer from Neogaf.
More Souls like than Tales like.
I'm in.
Anyways, considering Falcom's track record in recent years, this will most likely be a PS4/Vita title. At least, I hope it's not mobile-exclusive.... :(
I also wonder if they plan to resurrect any other franchises after this? I'd love to see a new Gurumin, Popful Mail, or Sorcerian. Zwei 3 would be great, too! :D
*parachutes down from the sky* Did someone say Falcom!?, Action RPG!?

For mobile, I think someone mentioned they're focusing on developing titles with China at the moment.
EDIT: http://www.esterior.net/2014/12/falcom-entering-the-chinese-mobile-app-market-in-2015/
Mobile action RPGs are pretty rare, aren't they?
Anyway, modern setting + Y's?
I am there.

Hmm... I've heard of this series, but never really seen it action. So I don't know what to expect, but I do like the Key Visual. The little blurb on the plot makes this sound a bit like another Persona though. :heh:

I like the girl on the left back.
Well, the artwork certainly looks consistent with the style Falcom used for all their recent titles, so I'd say it's legit. Heh, I wonder if their recent Sen no Kiseki titles inspired them to make another title with high school kids? :heh:
And speaking of their LOH titles, it looks like a new "Evolution" port is in the works. (http://www.ao-full.com/new-project) Zero and Ao were already released, so maybe they're gonna do the Sora/Trails in the Sky trilogy next? Or are we looking at potential remakes of the Gagharv trilogy or earlier....?

Based of the silhouette (https://twitter.com/nihonfalcom/status/545881068046282752), I believe it's safe to say it's going to be Sora evolution. However the silhouette doesn't match 100%, so maybe an art change?

That will 100% be Sora no Kiseki Evo, which I'm excited as heck for.
Also, that reminds me of Sen no Kiseki, so I guess so.

A Sora Evo is a nobrainer decision, but what interest me is that twitter tease of Estelle's silhoutte... (wearing her costume )
The portions look a little bit different than the original art, if I recall correctly... Possible sprite art update?
Wishful thinking : I still wish they could remake Sora/Zero/Ao with their Sen no Kiseki engine. >_<

lol, but I get his sentiment. Though that thought doesn't just extend to SC, but the 3rd and pretty ever Kiseki released.

Call me odd, but I'm of the complete opposite opinion here: I want to see the Sen titles done in the LOH VI/VII style. There were some little nuances with the sprites that I always enjoyed (like the fact that they weren't mirrored.... VERY rare for 2D games in general). Unfortunately, a "demake" of a newer title is way less likely than a full remake of an older one (short of it being fan-made, at least.... and even then, that would still take time to make, lol :p).

Yeah, it would take a heck of a long time before we see the rest of the Kiseki titles in English, sadly. But at least if Xseed ever manages to complete the 3rd, they could just skip the PSP versions of Zero and Ao and just do the Evolution ports instead, heh. :heh:

I get your sentiment, because in many ways, I feel that a game with the design of Sora/Zero/Ao will probably be more 'timeless' than Sen. ( some styles age more gracefully than others ) And there's something about those type of games that's great too.
But to me, part and parcel of the fun in being a Falcom fan is seeing how their games escalate in ambition. From Ys I&II, to the Felghana/Naphitism/Origins, to Ys 7, to Celceta, and now Ys 8... even if they're not the most graphically impressive studio, they're a studio that has pushed the ambition of their titles further with each installment.
I'd never thought I'd see Kiseki make a full 3D transition, and they did with Sen, without compromising the insane amount of content they chock into said games.

^Doubt it. It's probably going to be a full voice remaster/remake by Chara Ani like Zero and Ao. I also want a Sen-like Sora remake but I doubt it will happen anytime soon. We will see.
Well, it comes with additional content, you know. Not just voice work! I wasn't necessarily saying it would be re-made on the Sen no Kiseki engine. Just that there would be more than the usual fair, possibly.

Falcom teasing more news next week
This week has been pretty busy for Falcom. But next week will bring more Falcom news, the developer teased.
“This week saw all sorts of news, including Tokyo Xanadu, our new Evolution project, B-Stream collaboration, and the release of our Trails in the Sky Second Chapter comic,” the developer said on Twitter.
“For next week, we’re preparing a lot more news, so please look forward to it.”
Both Famitsu and Dengeki PlayStation release next week. Whatever more news Falcom has to share, we’ll likely hear of it through the magazines.

I've been reading the comments and looking at the pictures of this game. As a JRPG enthusiast... all I can say is.
Count me in! I'll definitely follow.:)
As far as Falcom's latest tease goes, rather than more new titles (though that would certainly be welcome), I'm actually hoping that they'll be announcing PS3/Vita ports for Ys Origin and/or Zwei 2. Those are pretty much the only Falcom releases in recent years that remained PC-exclusive, after all. Maybe they can even be given treatment similar to the Evolution ports (fully voiced, fully animated openings, arranged soundtracks, etc.).

^Just going to post the entire article here for convenience:
Falcom president shares more details on Tokyo Xanadu
An interview with Nihon Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo in this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine reveal new details about the recently announced Tokyo Xanadu.
For starters, the roles of Kou and Asuka, the two characters that were shown to be front and center of this recent magazine scan, have been clarified as main protagonist and heroine, respectively. Though their roles might be defined in such archetypal terms up front, Kondo contends that in practice, their dynamics will be much more different and unique compared to what’s come before them. The smartphone-esque devices that they carry on them in the picture are said to be of utmost importance as well. Other characters will naturally be properly showcased in later announcements.
In terms of gameplay, Kondo reiterates in the interview that Tokyo Xanadu is an action RPG and that it’ll feature a free moving camera and jumping as part of its gameplay. Tonally, the developer wants to make a game that has a different feel to it than what’s previously been on display in its Kiseki and Ys games, the two franchises it’s predominantly focused on the last several years. This means that the team behind it is heading into uncharted territory for them. The fact that it has the word “Xanadu” in the title, however, is a very deliberate choice and there are scenes that should resonate with those who get why that is, Kondo said.
Progress on the development of both Tokyo Xanadu and the latest Ys game for PlayStation 4 and PS Vita are said to be roughly equal, but the former’s release is being prioritized for the time being. The game is currently in a playable state and the team at this stage is focusing on raw content generation. As for the staff behind the game, Kondo confirms that people who have worked on the both Kiseki and Ys series are on board for Tokyo Xanadu, as the team makeup doesn’t inherently stay static between games in those franchises. Philosophically, though, Falcom is striving to make a game that surpasses what they’ve accomplished in those other two series.
The target hardware remains unconfirmed at this time, but as the game is apparently known to be appearing in this week’s Dengeki PlayStation, too, that probably narrows the field at least somewhat.

Well, I gotta say that I'm really looking forward to more details about the battle system. Though honestly, I'd be completely cool if they just recycled Nayuta's battle engine (that's pretty much the perfected form of the Ys Seven-style battle system right there). Though with this apparently taking place in a real-world setting, I kinda doubt that there will be any fairies to support the cast with magic, heh. :heh:

XSEED never, their translator nearly had a nervous breakdown and damn near went mad from translating First Chapter. (Or so the story goes.)
Now, Carpe Fulgar, on the other hand... the reason they've been so quiet for the last 4 years is because after they did Recettear and Chantelise, XSEED subcontracted them to do Second Chapter. :D

I was unaware of the suicide attempt, having been going off this post (http://www.carpefulgur.com/drakblog/?p=48), which was in 2013 and the only information I'd had for quite a while. As I recalled, Andrew Dice mentioned that XSEED's translator who'd worked on FC very nearly had a nervous breakdown with that game, given the immense scope of the project.
There's a certain sad irony there, and I'm sorry to hear of what happened.:(

Adding on to that- (http://gematsu.com/2015/02/tokyo-xanadu-confirmed-ps-vita)
Dengeki PlayStation details the first two characters:
Kou Tokisaka (Protagonist) – A 17 year-old second year high school student. Though brusque in his mannerisms, he’s not unfriendly towards others and is an archetypal modern day student all around. He uses a sword whip and specializes in mid-range attacks.
Asuka Hiragi – Kou’s classmate. She has an attractive face and figure, quick reflexes, gets excellent grades, and is class president. Though on the outside, she looks like a typical heroine… She wields a one-handed sword and specializes in close combat.
During the game’s modern parts, players will explore areas like the school and shopping district to trigger events before heading to the spirit world to progress the story. During spirit world parts, players will explore labyrinth-like areas and fight against enemies using weapons known as “Soul Devices.”
Next, tidbits from an interview with Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo:
We’ve acquired a lot of know-how in developing the Ys and Trails games, but we wanted to try out a different field.
So far there’s been Zwei!! and Nayuta no Kiseki, but we wanted to tackle a different title.
The younger staff are taking the initiative of project planning and development.
While the entire staff hasn’t changed, the young members are putting work into the costumes and setting.
The game is a modern era/other world RPG where players will go on an adventure to solve mysteries and incidents.
Action parts have a free-control camera.
We also have jump actions.
We’re considering things like targeting systems to make the game easier to play.
The foundation of the game is made up of modern day adventure parts and other world action parts.
They’re proactively designing the game such that players are better able to enjoy the story.
Falcom’s attention to detail on town NPCs (e.g.: their backstory, movement patterns, etc.) remains present.
We have a number of main characters, more so than the Ys series’ six characters.
We have a large number of modern day characters. People that enjoy the teenage character style will take kindly to them.
Tachikawa is the main setting in Morimiya City. It’s a town made up of a variety of spots in the Tama district on the outskirts of Tokyo.
The city of Tachikawa is coordinating with the development team on events and merchandise.
Launch is scheduled for after summer 2015. The main scenario is almost done and we’re currently toning up the action parts. I have no doubt we’ll release it by the end of the year.
The voice cast will be announced before long.
Production is progressing smoothly.

H-hopefully there won't be hard fps drop now
^Speaking of Sen, the main characters even do resemble Rean and Alisa, don't they? That, coupled with the school setting might even make one think that this is basically Sen 3, heh. Wonder if some of the voice actors will carry over to this game, even? :heh:
Anyways, no surprise that it's a Vita title. And as I said previously, I'd be A-okay with them just recycling Nayuta's engine for the combat (probably without the little gear fairy partner, though). Also, I assume that it's still too early for Falcom to reveal more details on the new Ys title....?

Reading from the interview with Kondou, it seems they intend to make this a series like Kiseki and put more focus on the story. I guess they have clearer vision this time with the title, unlike with Nayuta which was a poor blend between Ys and Kiseki.
And before people have a wrong impression with "Xanadu" on the title, it supposed to represent the company instead of having anything to do with the Xanadu series. The "Tokyo" here supposed to represent the alternate world, hence it uses a slightly different Kanji for the Tokyo on the title.

True, but I think it's a good place to invite new people to play their games. It's not something gigantic like Ys or Kiseki so people won't get bewildered when trying it, even if they're advertised as side-story. Also the generic plot at glance is probably really just their way to advertise this game for that audience, but it's falcom we're talking about :heh: I think it'll come out alright, at least for the story part.

Well, when you're courting the audience for a fantasy/high school RPG, no one would blame you for taking influence from one of the best ;).
I think Sen no Kiseki, from what I've read of it, also implemented a high school aspect alongside it's story and RPG element well-enough, so this might be a result of that somewhat :).

The first game does have the whole school setting, yeah. Not so much the sequel though (due to.... plot reasons). Both games do have a social link-type system, though. Wouldn't be surprised to see THAT show up in Tokyo Xanadu either, truth be told. ;)

I know it's not very likely at this point since the promo images seem to show all the main playable characters already, but..... with some of the high schooler archetypes already shown in the cast, I sorta hope that we get the burly hot-blooded jock (or better yet, a banchou) as a playable character. No wonder you are not familiar, it's a new studio actually. The founder was Matsuka Yuichiro, a producer for Bandai Visual from Production I.G. He worked for animation studio Kinema Citrus as a director and then left to found Studio 3Hz in 2013. Sora no Method, which was their first debut itself aired on 2014 just recently (and it was actually quite good! so I expected a lot from them).
As of FC Evo :heh: I'm personally not gonna bother with it at least until the SC Evo comes out. Unlike Zero, FC can't really be played as standalone without SC. So yes, I sometimes forget it too :heh:

No wonder you are not familiar, it's a new studio actually. The founder was Matsuka Yuichiro, a producer for Bandai Visual from Production I.G. He worked for animation studio Kinema Citrus as a director and then left to found Studio 3Hz in 2013. Sora no Method, which was their first debut itself aired on 2014 just recently (and it was actually quite good! so I expected a lot from them).
So in a way PI.G is doing the OP after all! :p
If he brought a lot veteran staff over to Studio 3Hz with him, it wouldn't be a huge surprise if turned out well.
As of FC Evo :heh: I'm personally not gonna bother with it at least until the SC Evo comes out. Unlike Zero, FC can't really be played as standalone without SC. So yes, I sometimes forget it too :heh:
To clarify I was referring to Gonzo not SnK FC. :heh:
I definitely agree that FC on it's own doesn't hold up very well. The pacing is mainly to blame for that.

The Soul Device is totally not Orbment, right?
Is Falcom running out of creativity or something?
^Maybe it's a bit similar, but since it looks like the party is restricted to one element per character (compared to multiple elements per character in the Kiseki titles), I'd hesitate to call it a straight-up ripoff. Not that I see any issue with a developer borrowing ideas from their earlier titles in the first place, though....
Edit: New character revealed. (http://www.siliconera.com/2015/05/28/tokyo-xanadu-introduces-its-delinquent-party-member-shio-takahata/) From his description, he comes pretty close to the banchou archetype I was talking about earlier (he isn't quite as burly as I envisioned, though....). And if we're gonna jump back to the subject on Falcom's lack of originality..... doesn't this guy basically look like a cross between Jusis and Tovar from the Sen series? :heh:

Tokyo Xanadu adds new character Marion (http://gematsu.com/2015/06/tokyo-xanadu-adds-new-character-marion)
http://i.imgur.com/4sreBn4l.jpg
Marion, voiced by Manami Numakura, uses a pair of wings as her weapon and has the wind attribute. She is 17 years old, a member of the popular idol group “SPiKA,” and is a bit of a devil in both looks and attitude. Armed with the skillful ability to sing, she is always getting into quarrels with her close friend and rival over who takes the center of SPiKA. Contrary to her easy-going appearance, she’s actually a hard worker. She puts her heart and soul into her idol work, and does not hide the fact that she’s an idol at school. She shows her true colors when she’s on her own, but if someone else sees this side of her, she gets defiant with them.

Okay, so I got the game a couple days ago, and I've been enjoying it quite a bit! Here's my impressions:
Well, many of us pretty much guessed as such already, but finally having played through it, I'll say it straight-out: This game is essentially an action-oriented version of the Sen titles, lol. The school setting, the menu interface, the optional quests, and even an orbment-type customization system.... it's all there. The only real difference I spotted is its take on the AP system: Kou has his own special stats that get filled whenever he fulfills certain conditions (clearing dungeons/quests, reading books, etc.). In a way, it's a bit more like those special stats the Persona 3/4 protagonists build up through misc. tasks. I haven't gotten far enough in the game to see what Kou obtains through maxing out those stats (I'm only in the third chapter so far.... yeah, I've been taking it slow), but at least leveling up said stats gets him special items from his grandfather.
Now, as far as dungeons go, they're definitely a fast, action-packed affair. Each dungeon grades you on your party's performance (specifically, stuff like how quickly you clear the dungeon, how much damage you deal to enemies, how many of them you destroy with their elemental weaknesses, clearing the dungeon without taking damage, etc.). It's definitely pretty neat, but it's also in the dungeons where the game shows its most glaring flaw..... the camera. Unfortunately, the camera fails to keep track of enemies in the midst of battle, which can be a HUGE disadvantage (especially against bosses). I find it especially odd that Falcom made such an oversight when they even give you a lock-on option during battle. I mean, I know most of their past titles kept the camera at fixed angles throughout the game and all, but still.
As far as plot goes.... eh, I'll wait until I actually beat the game before discussing that in more detail. It still pretty much reminds me of Persona, though (high school kids venturing through mysterious labyrinths to battle monsters that seem to spawn from people's negative emotions.... sound familiar? ;)). Though considering how much this is like an AU version of Sen and all, I'm just wondering when the giant robot battles will show up, heh. Can't comment on my favorite characters just yet, though I do like Kou well enough. The rest of the cast hasn't had enough time to grow on me just yet.
So yeah, camera issues aside, I find it to be quite an enjoyable game! And despite not having completed it yet, I can easily see this getting a sequel already. I just hope Falcom irons out the camera problems by then....
TX topped the Media Create game charts this week, with almost 89,000 physical copies sold in Japan (http://gematsu.com/2015/10/media-create-sales-92815-10415).

Wish Wing!
I'll be also looking forward to the Drama CD.
Uh, just wanted to further address that one complaint I had earlier:
So.... it turns out that the lock-on DOES keep track of the enemy after all! It's because I made the silly mistake of keeping the lock-on button held down when I was supposed to merely tap it! So yeah, I can follow enemy movements just fine after all. The camera may still be a little jerky sometimes mid-battle, but it's hardly an issue for me at all. So yeah, that's pretty much my biggest issue eliminated right there! Keep up the good work, Falcom! ;)

Wish Wing!
I'll be also looking forward to the Drama CD.
When is it coming out? Or more like, has it came out already? :heh: What's the story about? I-is it about my long-awaited Shio and Mitsuki story?
Just finished the game. Game was fun but a bit too easy..still having fun spamming square button though :heh: Also I was expecting the fps would drop considerably throughout the game but in the end I don't actually mind it that much. Bosses attacks are way too telegraphed might helped me enjoyed the game because I'll be in safe position when the fps starts dropping, though it kinda kills the game difficulty a little.
Also I actually managed to predict all the twists except for Gorou-sensei :heh: I expected him to be part of church(?) order but I was way off. Managed to guess Jun's identity though, but that's mostly because I'm highly suspicious with someone with green hair :heh: Not to mention when they start mentioning church it starts ringing bell :heh:
Story is pretty good. It's simple but personally I feel like it's well-written. I also like how the development between characters from kizuna episode and main story makes Kou actually trying to make them grow instead of trying to make the others falling for him :heh: Some of my friends complain in Sen/ao/zero about the 'dating sim' aspect of the game so I'm glad they make it this way :heh:
Also holy shit I came for idol hips but end up crying bitch tears because of my angel osananajimi instead ;_;
I also wrote a walkthrough that tries to be Import friendly. In case if anyone in this board decides to pick this game up.
http://www.gamefaqs.com/vita/130085-tokyo-xanadu/faqs/72530
I think my only gripes with the Tokyo Xanadu was that its too easy. Especially when compare with playing older action games from Falcom.
^Hey, thanks for the walkthrough! I already beat the game myself, but it's nice to have in handy in case I missed anything. :)
And yeah, I do agree that the game is rather on the easy side.... case in point: I didn't get a single game over during my first run through the game (even if it was on normal mode). I guess the lower difficulty is to help make it more accessible to newcomers, but still..... a little extra challenge wouldn't hurt. Well, I still enjoyed it, at least.
Also, as far as twists go:
Like Von Himmel, the twist with Gorou also caught me off-guard. I'm so used to seeing friendly dudes with glasses turning out to be villains in Falcom games that Gorou actually being an ally (a PLAYABLE one, at that) was a pretty pleasant surprise (like seriously, anyone who's familiar enough with the Trails/Kiseki games will definitely know Falcom's track record with a majority of their bespectacled characters). On the other hand, I'm actually pretty surprised that Jun wasn't playable, or even a boss, for that matter.... but I guess that could always change in the sequel.
Oh, and to add to my earlier comments about this game being like an alternate version of Sen/Cold Steel..... even most of the enemy monsters are literally recycled from those games, lol. :p Even giant robots appear at one point (at least for a late-game cutscene.... but one of them was technically a boss, I guess). I was even fully expecting Kou to get his own "Valimar" to pilot, but.... he doesn't. Too bad. :( But again, I suppose there's hope for something like that in the sequel.....
BTW.... I think this is the first Falcom title I played that gives the girls visible panty shots, lol. :heh:

Tokyo Xanadu eX+ announced for PS4 (http://gematsu.com/2016/06/tokyo-xanadu-ex-announced-ps4)
Falcom is bringing its PS Vita action RPG Tokyo Xanadu to PlayStation 4 in the form of Tokyo Xanadu eX+, the latest issue of Dengeki PlayStation reveals.
The PlayStation 4 version of the game will run in full HD at 60 frames per second. It will include an after-story set several months after the events of the main game and side stories for each character (with the exception of Kou). The additional story volume is said to be equal to about two chapters of the main story.
Other additions include a “Calamity” difficulty mode (for a total of five difficulties: Beginner, Normal, Advanced, Elite, and Calamity), and Boss Time Attack and Boss Rush modes. Cross-save with the PS Vita version is not supported.

Anyways, about the new playable character:
It makes a LOT of sense that they would make Jun playable. In fact, I was surprised that he wasn't playable (or even a boss fight) in the original version. He stood out way too much for his actions to be restricted to cutscenes only....
BTW, I wonder if this is also the reason why we've yet to hear of a localization announcement from Xseed for the original version? It would make a lot more sense to wait until the bigger, more "complete" edition is out and just make an announcement for THAT, I think.

Part of a reason why I think the original game is incomplete in some ways and that why I don't mind that they're putting a + version for this. The story itself feels self-contained but the last chapter did give a feeling that they want to put more things in it but was cut :heh:

Stable 60 fps except for the last ex+ boss (though it might not happen in PS4 Pro or PC), but other than that.. well, a more balanced difficulty where it's actually frustrating when you're trying the hardest difficulty on 1st playthrough, more stories, better gameplay system since some enemies need to be hit with strong melee attack to break their shield instead of the vanilla one where you can just spam long-range attack and wait for X-Drive... also what else? Oh right, new playable characters and more character info to put down on your character notes.
Also it kinda explains on one mystery that wasn't really answered in the vanilla game, mostly about what happened during the Tokyo Calamity. Although it's more like a teaser instead of explanations though :uhoh:

So is the vanilla hardest difficulty harder than Ex+? You say EX+ is more 'balanced' but then mention it is also more frustrating? I'm confused which version is more difficult.
Yeah, I'm a sucker for hard games (even frustrating ones like hard difficulty Type Zero where you get one-shotted by literally anything, and the only way you can kill even trash mobs is through killsights XD), and ever since I got my interest picqued by this, I might as well play it with a challenge. This game got me interested because while the main heroine isn't childhood friends with the MC, I believe one party member and one really important story character is one was well. :D

This game got me interested because while the main heroine isn't childhood friends with the MC, I believe one party member and one really important story character is one was well. :D
It's more balanced in a sense that because the vanilla Xanadu was piss easy even in the hardest difficulty (not sure about the limit run where enemies get boosted level at 2nd playthrough because I never play it in both versions though) and that Xanadu+ fixed that by increasing the difficulty which makes the hardest difficulty matches it's name...hence why I said they 'balance' it. For example, you can get a couple of scratches from enemies in hardest difficulty and you won't feel a thing except if you just stand around doing nothing while in +, a single hit might prove fatal. Normal mobs won't one hit kill you but it'll take huge chunk of your hp. The mini boss or strong enemies in dungeons might be able to one hit you though :heh:
Anyway to make it simple, hardest difficulty in vanilla version doesn't feel like one while in + version it actually feels like one. Also what I mean about frustrating is that until some point of the game, you'll have a hard time to stagger the mobs or bosses so you'll probably end up getting scratches here and there while killing bunch of mobs. Since they took large chunk of hp...it makes it kinda frustrating to beat for me :heh: It's still possible though but I'm just not good enough for that so I lowered the difficulty :heh:
Well, no doubt I'm stoked about this news about TX, but I still find it odd that it's Aksys taking care of localization this time around, especially when Xseed's been handling Falcom duties for close to a decade now, heh. Maybe the Xseed guys' hands were too tied with the Trails games to focus on TX? I suppose that would make sense. Makes me wonder what will become of Ys 8.... will it be Aksys handling duties for that game, as well? I mean, that's ALSO getting an updated PS4 version with exclusive content like TX did, so.... maybe?

Game is out on Vita today.
That said I'm still on the fence whether to get it now on Vita or wait for Ex+ in November.

I'm waiting for Ex+ in Novemember, I'd rather have the complete game.

I'm thinking of getting both if ever. It's the summer drought right now and the only thing going for me right now is FFXIV.

So I bought the game on Vita and will do so again in November to tide me over until SenIII comes out. That said, 4 hours in, I can tell that for this version Sora is the true Waifu.
Given that, I really think Falcom has a thing for making their main characters literal Chick Magnets. Joshua has 2 or 3 more going after him despite being with Estelle, Lloyd is surrounded by such women at work and throughout Crossbell, and Rean has head patted at least half of all Erebonian women of childbearing age. In this game Kou despite being characterized as a friendly loner still has women attracted to his gravitational field.
On that note I have a question:
I heard that the game has a true ending? It seems it's an epilogue when you get maxed stats on your 3 social stats. Is there a specific way to achieve this?

Yeah but he's a cool guy to friend and talk to so I'm not really surprised. Also unlike in Sen and Crossbell series, girls attraction towards him doesn't really develop to love interest other than couple of characters :heh:
And yeah there's true ending. I think the requirement is that you need to have a total of eight star combined from all three stat. You can get it easily by getting rank S from dungeons, do all quests and answering the right answer from questions and choice in story or sometimes in quests.
You'll get normal end at first but then you can pick the true end after you load the game IIRC in vita version

I have to say I REALLY wish they gave the translating job to XSEED. Not to knock on Aksys's work, they did a fantastic job on the Danganronpa series, but the game's English script needed a good lot of proofreading and editing. Lot's of formatting errors, typos, and a few lines that feel like it was machine translated. Not to mention a few obvious quirks with some colloquial terms and inconsistencies.
