Synopsis, taken from Japtem:
Thanks to various magic, the human race have been saved from calamity many, many times. Retaining his memories from his previous life, a boy, Shin, was picked up by an old man known to the world as a “Magi.”
Shin was brought up by the Magi, who had retired to a secular place, as his own grandson. With the memories of his past life, he absorbed the Magi’s craft and grew to be able to develop his own magic.
Then, the grandfather told him he has to become independent when he reaches the age of 15.
“Ah, I forgot to teach him common sense.”
The grandson who has grown beyond the level of normal people, lacked common sense; the common sense of the world. So to learn how to socialize, he goes to Earlshide Kingdom City to be admitted to Earlshide Advance Magic Academy.
So far there are only three chapters TL'd and what I can tell from that is:
The MC is a Japanese man ressurected into a world with magic.
And that magic is potentially omnipotent since it is based on imagination.
Won't be reading the raws yet, I'm in the middle of reading raws of several series, too many MTs will get confusing~

Eh.... Starting reading this, and after about 15 or so chapters, I can see why this series got ranked first in whichever ranking it was. I just can't help laughing at the utter lack of the MC's common sense even though he's reincarnated. The first male friend he makes of the same age as him is also such a troll, to the MC's expense, so more laughs to be had. That said, hopefully the lack of common sense gags don't get repetitive for me or else it'll be difficult for me to read through everything in one sitting.

The character is pretty interesting.
I'm waiting to see how humble the MC gets and to what extent he hides/reveals his power level, been searching for one just at the right balance that I like, came across many close to bit too far in either direction always.

This, I don't know who recommended this one to me, but the sense of humor is pretty good and is kept varied, jokes and themes aren't repeated over and over. There is some seasoning of drama and action mixed in here and there, but that's there just to show the cool side of the characters.
So far my favorite part has been....
Whet he granma + granpa combo start to agressively ship him with one of his classmates; and they even go out of the way to sort of making her the 'almost official fiancee' by speaking with her parents without the MC knowing the discussion topic ("why are they shaking hands?", he should have asked that :heh: :heh: ).
Wait... so although the MC is a reincarnated japanese he doesn't have a shred of common sense?

He was raised in the mountains by his grandfather, the grandfather was pretty happy with him because no matter what he teaches him, he can absorb it.
Eventually it's revealed that all of the instructors that the MC had, are basically living legends with great achievements; the lack of common sense is more in the lines that "he was never taught what's the norm", so the things that he feels that are "a little bit weak" or "a little bit simple" are actually way beyond what most people can dream to accomplish.
He usually uses basic chemistry and common world knowledge to aid with his spell formations; which to him is normal, but since no one else understands the concept of science, he can't get through the explanations to other people; which results in him using more advanced techniques that his instructors.

Yea, just when I was worrying about the common sense gags getting old, things changed gears and kept me going for more. The switching between serious and comedy really helps keep things fresh without making hings feel old and repetitive.
One thing that bugs me a lot about this webnovel though is that the reincarnation thing is essentially only there to explain why he's so OP with magic (ie. implementing science logic). Other than that, he doesn't seem like he was reincarnated even the slightest bit, which is a bit of a pet peeve of mine.

The third one was a bit disappointing, I know the story is about the grandson, but still, since there are cases of badass grandpa & grandma in a lot of manga and novel, so .. :heh:

- The class has to do mandatory study groups to take their knowledge further; the MC becomes the leader of his group naturally since he is the school representative / best student. The group gets an embarrassing name in the lines of "super ultra amazing ultimate magic study" or something, and the topic is the MCs skills, meaning that everyone in his study group start using his custom magics.
- After being royaly teased and accused of homosexuality by his best friend fiance & the prince's imouto "Awawa! an adult relationship!" :heh: He realizes of all the "cowardly things" that he is doing in his "approaches" to Ceclily (like, he takes no risks and is afraid of doing anything until he is sure of success); he then confesses to her in an onsen around chapter 40. Pretty much almost every character so far was spying on them when it happened :heh: Cecily spilled tears of joy, since she thought that it was just a one sided infatuation from her with no future prospects from her perspective; we also learn that MC had actually "fell for her" at first sight (he used his monologue from that time to confess). When he confessed, he was teased that he set up a death flag by confessing before war :heh: :heh:
- Dunno about the gramps fighting, to the point I have read, the war hasn't broken out yet; but I'm betting they'll serve as advisors and will let MC's squad be the aces. The enemy is the magic race which recently destroyed an empire and is building up forces, basically a danger to the whole human race. The oldies are also acting as instructors for MC's squad.
- In most people eyes, The MC is surrounded by beauties that shower him with attention, but I'm not sure it's building up as an harem per se (most girls joke around that they can't stand the intense lovey-dovey aura that usually forms between Cecily and Shin). Time will tell? (I would like the blacksmith shota & chef girl childhood friend combo pairing up btw).

First of all, who the heck is Will? The MC's name is Shin.
- The MC's study group is "Ultimate Magic Study Group." And he rather than teaching them his custom magics (since nobody can understand the scientific concepts even when he explains as simply as possible), he only teaches them the proper way to practice magic (no need for chant, controlling magic/mana is the most important thing) and that the mental image is what makes magic happen. Though of course he'll teach em how to use Gate at some point or another since one of the members really wants to learn it.
- Prince's imouto was being all flustered at how Shin and Sicily were being all flirty despite not even dating yet. Not at how Shin and the prince were getting along so well. As for the onsen, Sicily's family's territory is an onsen resort kind of area and they were staying at her family's mansion there during summer vacation for training camp. You got the death flag thing a bit wrong too. The prince said he urged Shin to get it over with now instead of later cause it seemed like Shin would be the type to say "let's get married after this war is over" which is a typical death flag. In other words, it was to avoid a death flag. :heh:
- The society in this world is monogamy, so harem is not a thing, even within nobility. Also, blacksmith kid's childhood friend girl is a the postergirl of the inn her family runs. Not a chief or whatever else it was you were saying she was.
On another note, I love the prince as a character. The sadisity is right in tune with me. :heh::heh::heh:

His lack of common sense usually leads to funny stuff though his reincarnation background is rarely used or addressed (well, his past knowledge justifies his effective & efficient magic methods). He must have been a lacking-common-sense-innocent guy even in his past life.
Currently in the chapters where Shin & his group fight off the majin guys as well as him trying to crush the stories to be told of his exploits (only to find out that publication has already started of his earlier ones). Just like Grandma & Grandpa...

Not a particularly original or deep story, but an interesting light read nonetheless. The whole reincarnation angle could've been dropped in this story though. Honestly that's the most jarring thing because he actually acts age-appropriate most of the time. The only time it's even brought up is as an excuse to integrate some simple scientific concepts into his magic or use kanji in enchanting.
It would honestly flow better and be more believable if he was just a smart kid raised in a sheltered environment.
Finally caught up. Sicily & her "A~u A~u" moments were quite adorable as always.

Can't even walk the streets anymore in the latest chapter, the shame was too much to bare. Even Sicily's title is stuck now.
Shin being Shin, his solution is to teach everyone gate magic cus' why not. Alice's motivation was considered "impure" though. It really is tempting & easy to abuse huh...
Seems it's bad for him to not do anything since he started brainstorming about wireless communication & how to make it possible. Gus ain't happy about that & it's implications & consequences.

Author will also write bangaihen as added content. Kyureki might dance now as World Teacher is set to be released on the same month.

Now he has access to easily made batteries for his toys, although for now he's only planning to make a few for his wireless communication network.

Currently there is only 12 translated chapters but i find it to be pretty funny. Since i only read the translated chapters i cant say much about the relationships but the interactions between Shin and the prince are great :heh:

Not sure if I should give this a try... reading the thread so far it reminds me of a certain "Oni-sama" at the Magic highschool, only this time there's no danger of incest around... just pure "hax OP" MC, and his goof troop that jump on the XP-Bus the MC symbolises (meaning they become OP simply by associating with OP MC).
Maybe the comedy aspect I've heard about get's lost with all the spoilers...?The MC is not disliked or regarded as a failure and doesn't have any siblings, so I really don't understand how this could remind you of Mahouka.
There is no game-like sitting so no XP(experience points), I hear the MC does teach his friends how to magic like he does(chantless), I don't know if they become OP or anything.
Well, Mahouka isn't about a protagonist that everyone looks down at... it's about a protagonist that is OP despite everyone looking down on him!
And both take their friends and give them a work out that makes them at least bettr than average compared to their peers...
That, or it's just that every "OP Maincharacter is so OP he is able to make his friends Mini-OP" setting reminds me of Mahouka. And it still reminds me of Mahouka... ^^;

I think your worries might be unfounded. The story is to the end more focused on the slice-of-life comedy surrounding the main character. Any and all action scenes only exist because the plot requires them. The author even explicitely stated that in his author's note after one of the chapters.

I don't see why you would say Mahouka's Tatsuya has a harem when he isn't even interested in the girls in that way and I like Mahouka cause of the political intrigue and the plot is pretty good, but the way you say its like you think that Mahouka has no story at all
but anyway, if I were to compare, Magi's Grandson is closer to Mushoku Tensei rather than Mahouka

Neither did I want to allude that Mahouka's protagonist had anything like a "harem". If I am honest, it has been quite some time since I last checked the translation but all I remember of the plot can be summarized as "Stuff happened, but then Oni-sama came and saved the day!".
The various political plots were somehow interesting (and compared to the stuff some other LNs try to sell as plot is was rather good) but in the end everything was more or less solved by "Oni-sama" and his judicious application of oni-sama-power... unless the plot involved one of his friends, in which case the friend was able to win the battle because oni-sama kindly supported him/her beforehand.
But in the end it all comes back to Tatsuya. Always.
The supporting characters might be able work hard on their own and become strong without having Tastuya give them new toys/ideas... but what if Tatsuya never existed? There would have never been a reason for them to train so hard.
That was a just a grievance I have with published LNs in general. Unless the author caters to (at least) one target audience's fetishes tastes it never reaches the printing machines, or at least it never reaches this corner of the world as an english version...
I read stories for the plot... if I want to read about "teens" fondling each other and/or do a "Yin-Yang-Union" I go and ask Google for Ero-Fanfics.

The various political plots were somehow interesting (and compared to the stuff some other LNs try to sell as plot is was rather good) but in the end everything was more or less solved by "Oni-sama" and his judicious application of oni-sama-power... unless the plot involved one of his friends, in which case the friend was able to win the battle because oni-sama kindly supported him/her beforehand.
But in the end it all comes back to Tatsuya. Always.
The supporting characters might be able work hard on their own and become strong without having Tastuya give them new toys/ideas... but what if Tatsuya never existed? There would have never been a reason for them to train so hard.
That was a just a grievance I have with published LNs in general. Unless the author caters to (at least) one target audience's fetishes tastes it never reaches the printing machines, or at least it never reaches this corner of the world as an english version...
I read stories for the plot... if I want to read about "teens" fondling each other and/or do a "Yin-Yang-Union" I go and ask Google for Ero-Fanfics.

If Shin is going for self-propelled vehicles next, he should just skip to a futuristic flying car/ship design unless there is some kind of energy concern. That way all the related infrastructure like better roads and bridges won't be needed. Also, he should totally make fixed teleport gates between cities.
Just imagining the mess Shin is going to create in the next few years...

It's not that. It's more that, his narrative sounds a bit immature and simple to me. He's obviously pretty smart, since he uses science for his magic as well as he does. Still, his image doesn't fit what I pictured.

The granpa looks like someone cool rather that "the face of the guy that gets the short end of the stick 100% of the time" (and thus, it fits perfectly :heh: ). Since Grandma was described as looking quite a few years younger and prettier than what she really is, that kinda subsided look doesn't fit my image of her.....
For Aug, I figured him as a little bit more bishouneninsh & noble / strict looking dude consideing what was his circumsntanctes before befriending Shin....
Thinking about it, probably Maria is the only one who fits 100% my idea of the chars (that's totally the face of someone who is always getting late to class :heh: ). Well, the designs probably will grown on us with time, since the drawing style doesn't seem bad.

I don't think that she had any ill intentions of using Shin, though (or at least didn't plan on hurting him). Glad she confessed, though; and wonder how she'll develop in the future.

If you were expecting some kind of semi-serious reincarnation series, then this is definitely not the novel for you. It's mostly just runs on gags that can get kind of repetitive. I like the series but I think it would've worked much better if Shin was not a reincarnation and was merely smart and inventive. Outside using his modern knowledge in magic, the reincarnation is almost completely unused in Shin's character or as a plot point.

to be fair, even the gag-storys became useful for later since the "near one-shot"-storys actually showed how tsuna came closer to his future subordinates :heh:
it is more similar to the 1HP-story (which i find funny since i only have read the 9 tranlated chapters (but the thing with the succubus/vampire-girl already began to irk me a bit :heh: ))

Okay I read all the translated chapters. Okay so far, but the tone is rather inconsistent. Also reincarnation was really unnecessary and doesn't add anything to the plot at all. The MC doesn't really act like an adult anyway.
MC was a teen when he died, I think?
Anyways, Reincarnation is often used in web novels to explain why the MC's knowledge allows him to use magic that people in that world can't comprehend.
Normal people "just imagine fire" and that's it.
The MC "gathers oxygen and fuel properly, and ignites it", for stronger flames.
These are worlds where a basic understanding of chemistry and physics = super powerful magic, and are just designed to insert reincarnated characters for maximum OPness.
Unfortunately, the fact the main character is reincarnated isn't really used much in the story. It's sort of just brushed aside, and only mentioned a few times; "He has common sense, but it doesn't match with this world's" sort of thing pops up a bit. But like you said, his maturity basically reset.
Not really many authors who make a proper "reincarnation story", and most just do it for the wish-fulfillment factor, without actually utilizing it beyond that.

I've yet to read a Japanese web novel that does reincarnation right. Every single one of them is just the author projecting their chuunibyou onto their story. I say just screw tensei altogether and focus on writing some entertaining characters and believable drama. But then again, web novel authors are mostly amateurs.

I'm a little conflicted on how they are drawing the jii-sans (the main draw for me :heh: ). Oh, the mamono bear has like, no freaking difference with an actual bear (I guess that's consistent with the light novel? I mean Karl didn't look in-human at all when he went bonkers).

I think the closest thing he did to that was toilets. Though rather than creating jokes, it caused him to become rich as heck since everyone wanted to buy one when he opened up a shop to sell the things he invents with them being constantly sold out for a long time until supply could catch up to demand.

This is because of a pun that doesn't work in English. 魔 can mean demon or magic. Maou can mean [Demon King] or [Magic King]. It started from a misunderstanding where Shin said something like "What do you think I am, a demon king?" Gus misunderstood and rolled with it. Besides, this setting has no maou so there's nothing negative associated with the name.

Ah, that's probably when.......
Cecily was acting as a combat med in a castle with tons of injured; and there it was this one guy who she couldn't help regardless of what she did. Shin arrived later and he could heal that guy since unlike Cecily he knows how to do magical radiographies and thus can deal better with internal wounds which she doesn't understand.
The thing is that Cecily felt really powerless at that time, and even the wife of the injured guy was next to her as she tried to heal him which added pressure, I guess? In the end it was the wife the one that managed to cheer her up, I think she cries here?

Yea loved the scene where he learned who his "family" really was, very funny sword master used to be a famous general, his grandpa is a world class hero magician, so is his grandma and his "uncle" is the king I was chuckling the entire time.

I've read a bit ahead I think around chapter 46 or so and I got one question. Does the circle jerking ever end? Like the MC can't do absolutely anything without someone somewhere commenting about how great he is like, even in the bath we can't get a decent convo going without someone commenting how great the MC is, we get it he's OP we don't need to be reminded once every paragraph. Also is it just me or is Sicily literally only there to be a romantic interest? She's like air almost no personality other than being that cute girl. Those are my only real criticisms everything else is cool the prince, his grandparents even the big bad is cool the magic is also interesting. Gonna finish volume 2 and probably come back to it later when the story picks up more.

What he needs is an editor that tones down his power fantasy for the sake of the story he could literally focus less on the ego wanking and use his time and energy to actually develop his characters. Hopefully the manga tones it down if not I'll probably drop it too and if it's picked up as a LN some rewrites fixes it.

It started off good so I can understand you posting your initial thought, it only starts getting bad a little after he joins the school, even then some parts of the story are good. The grandparents, Gus, the big bad, how the magic works and the MC's power are well written and interesting it's just that the flaws it does have are really holding the story down. Hopefully the manga fixes some of the issues.

But the thing about Sakamoto is it's a parody and the series in itself is a joke on how the typical MC would look to people around him. With Magi's Grandson it's not treated as such and it's shameless ego pandering to the max probably one of the worst cases I've ever read. The story aside from the pandering isn't bad, but after a while is just mucks up the immersion and investment into the story because the MC can't do anything without the people around him telling the reader how great he is, the main heroine is also flat as a character with barely role in the story other than being a main girl. The author really needs an editor to reign it in.
By the way, what was the age of MC when he died?
