I didn't even care about the changes. Seeing Rias flipping out made it so worth I'm still trembling.
I'm going to wait for subs before saying exactly what I think of the episode.
Arthur shows up with Kuroka, and Ise says something regarding Dress Break, probably about that.

Its funny again i cant disagree with you but i also cant completely agree with you. They had a few really hilarious shipping moments. The fights were entertaining but it felt far too forced for my liking. The last few with rias freaking out along with everyone else was fun and in truth that jumped it from below average to average. The changes annoy me but it was entertaining. Next week should be good. I've gotta say though i really hate how Arthur looks. Plus Ross looks a good 3 or 4 years older then i expected.
First time in a DxD episode where there's no breasts and nipples. :D The actions were nice, kinda feel like they downgrade Fenrir a bit here, the LN version of him sounds way deadlier and did much better. And the animators do did some nice touch on the relationship wise like the Kiba and Tsubaki moment. They even made a minor scene where Sona thanks Saji for supporting her dreams.

they downgraded Fenrir A LOT.
Yeah, that's one of the two things i didn't really like here. The other one being the way they handle Saji here. He didn't face any hardship in controlling his SG at all and there's no sign of Vritra.

IIRC the reason Vritra started to awaken was because Saji absorbed the Boosted Gear's power with his Absorbtion Line, which didn't happen yet.

Nor should the combining occur since it was only made possible when Vritra awakened.

If u hadnt read the LN and are experiencing DxD for the first time thats one thing but as somebody whose read the LN faithfully if this is how they handle the Loki battles i'm EXTREMELY OFFENDED because of all thats happened before the stuff leading up to the Loki battle is part of what makes vol 7 so beautiful and the fact they've ignored that might be the biggest crime of all.
Volume 7 wasn't even that good IMO. It was by far the worst of that arc. Like honestly I'm not so stuck up to the point where I'm gonna say this is bad because it doesn't follow the source material. Just because it's the source material doesn't mean that it's perfect.

I cant disagree with the fact that overall vol 7 was weak.
But the fact remains that the key of the original vol 7 wasnt Loki. The key to vol 7 was Akeno and her relationship with her father that has been completely ignored and from the look of the preview it wont be addressed. THAT is my problem its not that they've followed the material its that they've messd up the original intent of vol 7.

From what i`ve read across the interenet , this was just a smirkoff so the final battle won`t be skipped , there we will see akeno and her father relationship ( i stop here , the ln readers know what happens so i will not spoil it here)

So, you're thinking the content of Volume 7 is already over? Do you know how many times they fought Loki? Why don't you try and re-read v7.

I don't know how the original light novel story goes, but as for as the anime and this episode...
It feels like someone took the material, threw it in the blender, and dumped it out. Every character/monster was getting weaker/stronger by the cut, the development was... jagged? Pieces by pieces. One of the more noticeable  moments was when Silvia suddenly was very up-and-running in the NEXT shot before she was even given the phoenix tears. You know, at least show her reviving or something? Or... maybe it getting used? Or... putting some kind of material in the middle? Instead of her practically teleporting to a different scene in a different condition?
I'm not sure. "A lot happened", but not a lot happened.

I knew this season was going to be a little rocky. In the first two seasons they have only done two volumes per season which equaled out to six episodes per volume. This season they are putting three volumes into twelve episodes so either they were going to have to change things around or compress/cut out some parts in order to make the twelve episode cut. Obviously they have chosen the latter and had their reasons for doing so one of them being that Rossweisse did not really enter the main stage till volume seven in the first place so the change up can allow her to make more appearances this season. Also most of the main points of volume four have already come to light. Introducing Tannin, training, reaching balance breaker, Koneko and Akeno accepting their true abilities and no longer restraining themselves as well as a few minor facts like learning about Tsubaki's [Mirror Alice] and her liking Kiba and Sona being a water user. The only two fact left out are Issei's new move Bilingual and Reverse which never got used at all after volume five.
As to how this episode was I think it was fine. All things considered. Fenrir being weaker then he should be is easy enough to explain away.Fenrir has not been "strengthened" to resist Gleipnir which could be used as an excuse to give him a power up later and how they drive him away next episode. As for the fact that Saji already has the all four of the Vritra Sacred Gears I think can be allowed since they never said that the other fallen angel leaders where helping the Sitri team and instead said that Azazel was helping them as well so that Sacred Gear maniac giving all of the Vritra gears to one person as an experiment, and something fun, is something he would do. As to Vritra awaking later on I think can be explained away later by the fact that he has drained power from Evil God Loki and possesses all of the Vritra SG could be substituted as the trigger for awaking of the Evil Dragon king Vritra
I personally think that the next episode they will force Loki to retreat for a short period of time that will last till the end of the season so they can somehow get to the events of volume five. The only thing I cannot figure out is how they are going to introduce the Oppai dragon show as the idea for the show came from the devil kids getting excited after watching Issei in his Balance breaker state after the Gremory vs Sitri rating game which now looks to have been excluded from the season.

Enjoyed the episode. Animation got a little rocky and it did feel like everyone was just getting their power-ups quickly shown (especially the important ones like Akeno), but all around I liked it. One thing I noticed is they really need to lock down the size of Issei in BB. He looked almost manga-level small in one of the frames.
As to Fenrir being powered-down, I actually didn't like the feel he had in the LN. Such a big deal is made of Fenrir being massively powerful, but then it feels like he's just sitting there most of the fights. I always thought the way Fenrir was described he should be casually walking around biting everyone once and insta-killing them while Loki sat back and had a drink.
Here, he seems to be way strong, but he's not getting the insane lipservice he gets in the LNs. Issei getting snagged out of the air like a Frisbee was great.
Edit: Chichi, I think "Silvia" is Xenovia. He's referring to her being back in the fight immediately after Loki knocked her out with the death rain, even though it was only implied she was rezzed via Pheonix Tears instead of it being animated out. Which doesn't bother me at all, seeing as how once you've seen one "Senzu bean" scene you've seen them all.

Yeah, that shocked me, like, one moment there was some epic music, Ise ready to kick ass, and then he gets rekt instead and is treated like a chew toy.
Just watched it subbed now, and I like it even more. That speech by Rias at the end was glorious. And now I get why Asia didn't go, they wanted to take as much firepower as they could and it was limited. Makes sense.
I don't think they nerfed Fenrir, Kiba and Xenovia were just dodging and stalling for time, not actually fighting him.
I really liked this close up of akeno, there's just something about suffering and anger together that is touching and interesting.

anyways, I enjoyed the episode although there was some dialogue that was quite cringey. Action could have been better but this studio isn't that big so can't really fault them for it

That's a FANTASTIC pic. One thing I've always liked is that DxD does "you hurt my friends" anger very well.
Honestly, just liked the final minutes, I was laughing so hard when he got bitten and then everyone went mad, thats good at least.
Again, so weird how its handled all the problem of Akeno, having that in the most out of the place volume sure affected a lot.
Plus, thats not how I pictured Midgadsorm in my head, but oh well.

Rias said she wouldn't let him die, so he's not even dead yet.
And it's not like anyone expects him to die for real. He didn't take Rias's virginity yet. :p The problem is if they are going to bring him back in a cool and creative way (There are a lot of "bringing the dead back" aspects in almost every mythos, and since all of them exists here, options are something that they have too much of) or a stupid and cringe-worthy way.

For some reason, Sona should have like 6 bottles of Phoenix Tears if they want to stall Loki longer...
But still, that was the cruelest way for Issei-kun to die when he supposed to weild the Mjolnir hammer!
Anyone else feel like multiple total shouts out to (Marvel's) Thor (movie) were made? Whenever they said Mjolnir it sounded like meowmeow, and Issei kept going "Hammer... HAMMER!"

This episode was good for character development. However, Loki as a boss doesn't fit with me. Sure, he is an important boss character but, it really forces me to do a comparison of bosses I watched and read throughout anime, manga, and light novels as well as creating what if questions.

Screw continuity.
This chapter was made from Awesome Sauce. The sheer expresions and the actions was great.
Me likey. Rias's berserker scream at the end was perfect.
What I'm assuming will happen is that Vali's team will drive Loki back, and we'll get on with the rest of volume five, followed by six and seven with the Loki rematch at the end.
Or not, and we'll go screwy with the story and love every second because this actually makes more sense than the way the novel did it.

Well here's the fun part. From the preview u know that they're gonna prep for the RG in the next episode. and assuming 6 is the actual RG we have 6 episodes left to finish off Loki and the events of vol 6 which is fine but this is awkward so far.

Let's face it, if Fenrir was as strong as they said, in the LN everyone would be dead. The reason he's in the Top 10 is probably more due to his God-Slayer fangs than nothing else.

As much as I like DxD, it doesn't really shine when it takes itself too seriously. I'm not just talking about our weekly dose of oppai here but there needs to be at least some comedy, some witty(and usually pervy) remarks from Issei.
Though of course, I understand the need of such eps every once in a while but the skipping around was easily noticeable for a non-LN reader like myself too and not in a good way. Everyone became stronger and is showing it...a bit abrupt but okay, can deal with that. What's totally not okay is Akeno's quick self-acceptance - like wth? One of the most popular characters can't be treated like that. Address her issues properly DxD!

Her problems weren't solved yet, She just accepted she needs all the power she can use to fight, otherwise the rest of her team could die. Next episode's preview already shows her getting a bit doubtful about her own strenght.

Akeno has a whole volume to deal with her issue which has been totally butchered here. Same with everything else. It was a fun chapter because it was set and edited to be exciting, but there is little substance to justify most of the events anymore.
I ll stick to the LNs, IŽll wait for the BD, wont follow this anymore.

Didn't she first joing lightning and thunder together in the rating game with Sitri after Ise went down?
That was 2 volumes before she accepted and got her issues resolved.

Oh man, the episode delivered on such an emotional level. Seriously broke my heart when I saw all the heroines in tears over Issei's injury.

Damn, why'd you post that!? :frustrated: Now I fell into temptation and did this:

Although since we're talking about DxD, they'd actually be happy. :heh:
Joking aside, why do I feel out of place as the only person who actually liked the episode. Of course, maybe I should have put 9/10 on the poll due to QUALITY, but that'll get fixed later. I'm especially looking at the other LN fans since we knew that it was going to be like this for around a month before the air date. Just learn to like things as they are without the tinted glasses.
Well other than before mentioned QUALITY, I didn't have any problems with the episode so for the LN guys that are complaining, please stop. Unless it's actual criticism of the episode and not biased They Changed It Now It Sucks (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheyChangedItNowItSucks).
I can't wait for this Saturday! :)

He'd be delighted. He's Ise's first male haremette after all.
Thanks btw, that's what I needed to read before going to sleep. :D

I don't get it. Is Rias mad at Isssei or something? If so,then he could be in trouble.

Not yet. I could watch the episode right now. But I've decided to wait until all of the episodes of the third season came out.

You're not doing yourself any favors by visiting the episode threads then, but to answer your question, no, they're not getting pissed off at Issei in those images.

Really? Oh thank you. Now I will proceed to watch the third season of High School DxD. Even if all the episodes didn't come out yet.

Not read the side stories have you?
Oh no. Don't tell them about that... thing. :heh:
Before I go with the downside aspects I perceived in this episode, let me tell you the positive points.
The action was top notch, and characters delivered some tense, drama points. It is way better than what S2 offered and delivered.
Koneko faces forward, and Akeno has to inspire herself in order to carry on regardless of her family past with Baraqiel.
Sona wants to make sure that peace reigns all over Makai and allowing low-level demons to participate at future rating games.
Irina, though an angel now, retains and keeps her friendship and goodwill towards Xenovia.
Now, discussing the downside of this episode, I believe that Isseis's supposedly death was overacted. Honestly, I cannot fathom or think he'll be going down that easily by a mere monster or an underling. The possibility manifests that the writers needed to pull out a dramatic punch in order to force Rias letting out all of her wrath and placed on the spotlight, and Issei getting hurt in such a life-threatening context pushed the require buttons for her going apocalyptic mode.
