New Anime project for 'Tiger Mask' announced. The series previously got TV anime in the past before.
Description:
In the manga and anime, Tiger Mask (whose real name was Naoto Date) was a feared heel wrestler in America who was extremely vicious in the ring. However, he became a face after returning to Japan when a young boy said that he wanted to be a villain like Tiger Mask when he grew up. The boy resided in an orphanage, the same one that Tiger Mask grew up in during his childhood. Feeling that he did not want the boy to idolize a villain, Tiger was inspired to be a heroic wrestler.
The main antagonists in the manga and anime was Tiger's Cave, a mysterious organization that trained young people to be villainous heel wrestlers on the condition that they gave half of their earnings to the organization. Tiger Mask was once a member of Tiger's Cave but no longer wanted anything to do with them, instead donating his money to the orphanage. This infuriated the leader of the organization and he sent numerous assassins, including other professional wrestlers, to punish him.
Most of the environment and characters were fictitious, but real-life pro wrestlers Antonio Inoki and Giant Baba were included in the manga and anime as well.

As a wrestling fan, I'm pretty satisfied with the show so far.
It didn't waste much time getting straight to the action especially in the ring. Plus, we got a good amount of moves shown. Characters seems interesting so far and this actually felt like watching a classic action movie.

That was dumb, but pretty fun nevertheless.
It was ok, feels like an old school anime, which is good.

If nothing else, the OP is very catchy.

This is so fucking cheesy. I need moar.
All those suplexes, was it inspired by Brock Lesnar's suplex city? :heh:

Suplex the episode.:heh:
Damn it the OP is still catchy. The OST too, its campy but that just makes it better.

Yes, because, as we all know, Brock Lesnar invented the suplex.
Yes, because, as we all know, Brock Lesnar invented the suplex.
Does not matter who came up with the move, the one who made it relevant in the recent years does.

Why that ending song so powerful?:D
As someone who hasn't been into wrestling since he was a kid this is pretty awesome, I mean, wrestling and anime go way too well together.:heh:

Having watched the original (and the first "sequel") ages ago - keep in mind I found them amusing but I can't say I really liked them - I feel it's "playing safe" for now for the matches (but again, it could be changing in the perception in this kind of "sport").
The original was pretty brutal (even if not necessarily bloody all the time) and the sequel was even worse in certain matches. Aside the very first few minutes, W is a bit "dull", though I think it may also be due to how Toei is scared of controversies now (see Urobuchi's comments on Kamen Raider Gaim's development as an example).

Interesting, so W is a sequel to the original.
Sad though, it seems everyone thinks the original Tiger Mask quietly disappeared after being unmasked in his match with Tiger the Great.
In the manga thoughNaoto Date was ran over by a truck.

The second series actually said something about Naoto, more or less, in the first episode. Doesn't look like W is actually considering it canon, though.
I don't know what to to... I watched the original (At least I think it was the first series) around... 20 years ago could be? and even if I have very little memory of it, I have good ones and I don't know if I should watch this (I know it is not like the new McGyver show or the Knight Rider one but...)

You could give it a try at least and see if you like it. W looks to be a sequel of the original series.

Episode 4:
Wow, that was literally the bloodiest match so far in the series. The Red Death Mask guy looked like he was trying to kill his opponents in the ring. Such a powerhouse.
I'm glad that Tiger Mask put him to his place although it did surprise me somewhat at the same time that he beat him.

Holy shit, that was intense :twitch:
And Red Death Claw is a nightmare fuel, just by the sound it makes.

Red Death was a threat, jeez what kind of grip strength would it take to crush a mans skull? Still Tiger Driver.
Watching this makes me feel like like an 8-year old and I love every second of it. Shame it doesn't get as much hype.
wwww episode 6 was hilarious. Especially that performance from that idol duo was brilliant.

This is must be the most realistic episode in all Tiger Mask franchise, including the 1969 series....
