Skipped through Ch.12 (manga) entirely knowing it wouldn't conclude, only to find out there's another cliffhanger at Ch.13. And no Priestess in sight I'm starting to have some second thoughts about it- at least the manga (the visual novel didn't exactly make awful hentai-like depictions of the rape scenes). Might sound a little late to "regret" it, but it's just how I feel. Again, the story seems to be doing pretty well in the light novel on those kind of terms (even if there are implications here and there). I feel like this series could still give you a really good impression through it's premise without having to rely on poor shock factor like that.

So Ch.14 ends in yet another cliffhanger.
They'll probably cliffhang him taking off his helmet too.

Goblin Slayer 6
“only wants to exterminate goblins, nothing else, and so he said.”
“How about joining a party?”
“Doesn’t sound like it.”
“What a fool.”
in the spring when new adventurers hopeful gather, a boy magician who only wants to kill goblins was annoying the Guild Girl.
Meanwhile, an adventurer training ground is under construction at a place slightly away from the border town. Goblin Slayer knew that place once was a village.
“Kills all the goblins!”
with the boy magician joining, Goblin Slayers and his party take off for a tomb infested with goblins…

when well the author give any names for any characters

I think that's less title and more of their class + race since this is based on D&D and all.

sorry, not volume 3, it was in volume 2 when there is a flashback.
Negi-copy is probably going to die, If he doesn't well he will probably not be an issue after this volume, I'm guessing he is one of those people who killed a Goblin or two and thought he was an adventurer or in the Negi-copy's case better at goblin slaying than the Slayer himself
The gaiden shows just how much of a threat goblins can really be if they get big enough numbers, I think this is the first time we are actually shown a village that is being destroyed by goblins and to me it looks like this would not be out of place in something like Berserk

Anyone can confirm this about the archbishop?
Her soul, once that of a maiden, had been wounded in every possible place.Even now, that awful scene, her last sight in the world, was burned into her eyes. At
night, it would come to torment her. The horde of goblins defiling her, raping her, violating her, taking everything from her.
And no one could save her from it. It would go on and on, forever…No one would help her.
Ever. Not ever.
“But.”
She looked up in surprise at the single echoing word.
“If goblins appear again, summon me.”
The dark shadow, his back, was already far away. But his impassive, mechanical
voice carried readily.
“I will kill them for you.”
“Oh…”
She slid to her knees as if she were collapsing. Her exquisite features scrunched up
and a sob escaped her mouth; she couldn’t restrain the tears that poured from her eyes.
When was the last time she had cried harder than she did after one of her dreams?
“Even… Even in my…my dreams?”
“Yes.”
“You…will… You will come…?”
“Yes.”
“Why?” Her voice was shaking so badly she couldn’t say the word; it rolled half
formed out of her mouth.
But he answered her clearly:
“Because I am Goblin Slayer.”
The one who kills the little devils.

About that volume six picture-
I just read through volume 3, though I'm pretty sure I missed some things due to rushing and due to how much was going on. So based on the interludes in vol. 3, after Goblin Slayer left Sword Maiden kind of moped around because he left? Which I guess shouldn't be a surprise as she's happily joined the harem. Huh, based on that vol. 6 picture, didn't realize she would continue making future appearances.
The prequel spin-off should be interesting, to say the least. I think in one of the early volumes, it was mentioned that Cow Girl thought Goblin Slayer had died with the rest of their village, then he reappeared years later, right? I've only read the English releases (at volume 3 now), so I'm never quite sure what's foreshadowing or not.

Thanks for answering my question and also for making summaries in LN Volumes. As for the year one, I thought it's released both in LN and manga version, thats what I read in Yen Press and Ga bunko website. So I post it here in LN. Well sorry 'bout that.

posting what I had done so far, part 1 is the test read portion.
GS going over the ground which will become the training site for newbie adventurers, and stand over some burn out body remains which is without marking… only three people, GS, cow girl, and her uncle know that there used to be a village on that site.
Spring, new adventurers fill the guild looking for jobs, and there are the typical sneak remarks by the ignorant new comers on high elf archer (and later GS). Priestess showing high elf archer a letter from ojusama sword girl, she had becomes friends with GS’s party and send priestess letters regularly, after reconciles with her family she had decided to become a receptionist to help newbie adventurer, GS shown up late, buys 18 potions (6 each of healing, antidote, and stamina) and separates them by tying knots, (a newbie female rhea (halfling) warrior wonder what it is for, Lizard priest explains for easy sorting/accessing(insert)). then took on all 10 available goblin jobs, on their way out, Priestess deep in thoughts, bumps into a rushing red haired with glasses newbie adventurer boy mage, Dwarf Shaman telling him to be careful, but the boy mage yells back shut up, not my fault, you wanna take a fireball?
Dwarf Shaman: really, young people these days…
High Elf Archer: these words sounds really like someone is getting on ages.
Dwarf Shaman: don’t want to hear that especially from you, rather says your body should have something more appropriate with your age, anvil girl.
High Elf Archer: what… you you wine barrel!
(this concludes the test read parts)
Found this at reddit. Is it supposed to be true?
Goddess of Illusion love to create a self-inserted version of herself as the main heroine of the campaign. Her character is all Mary Sue with a beauty, good fortune, good companion, and OP cheat ability from the isekai. God of Truth hates it so much he created goblin race, a rapist and murderer to rape and kill God of Illusion's main heroine and party, the adventurers and fuel Dark Energy to summon dark gods which it means, the more people were raped and killed by Goblin, the stronger the dark lord that God of Chaos can summon.
And Priestess was a creation of the Goddess of Illusion. She was supposed to be joining adventurers, completing Goblin quest and in the middle of her questing, her party almost got wiped out and she overcome it and gain a great power but all went to drain when GS appears and save her, so the goddess of Illusion gave up on her and create a new heroine.
Illusion like GS because he is slaying goblin so her creation will be safe.
Truth like GS because he is somewhat prevent Illusion's characters to become OP because GS rendered those events from happening.
Law like GS because he has no ambition to do big things, so he will not upset the balance.
Chaos like GS because he can do whatever he likes without a care in the world.
Honestly I don't think that is true Sixth
If anyone is a Mary sue in goblin slayer it would be the Hero girl whose only really flaw that we have seen is A cup angst
Though a candidate for a Mary sue character would be the Village Girl who died in volume 3 in the gods interlude
Aren't Illusion and Truth the only 2 gods we have seen? though there are probably more than that

Priestess was supposed to be a Mary Sue, but then Illusion got a couple of bad rolls then GS showed up and completely derailed the entire situation. Had GS not showed up, Priestess would have either died or become the Mary Sue in question.
And I can see why the Gods love him, especially Truth and Chaos. He"s like a DM who had to deal with an irritating players, so when somebody derail said player's plan he loves that guy. And Chaos, well, GS entire mindset is basically "I kill goblins. Fuck everything else"
Iirc the gods also love him because he basically never let's them make rolls on him because he more or less removes the element of chance through his absurd prep.
So they have no idea what he's gonna do or any way to control him.
There's an image in the manga of his piece on the board literally kicking the dice away. It was hilarious.

"Screw the rules, I have prep" :heh:
Also, if this world uses the same value as in DND then GS is filthy rich. A potion in DND 5e cost like 50g. Buying 6 at once is around 300g.

in the GS world:
1 guild potion (less powerful) = 1 gold
1 gold = newbie exterminate sewer rat for 1 day
GS is still rich enough to buy 6 full set of potion (18 gold) for every single one in his party just for goblin duty, earning envy and jealousy from all the newbies.
Well, yeah. It's also listed that there are so many Goblin extermination missions that he takes on with only one or two people usually that he can afford it. These youngsters better get to work.

Sign up just to comment on this light novel. lol. This was my first light novel, and it was alot better than the manga. I got hook reading all three vol this week.
Also finally saw what a rhea looks like. I saw the goblin slayer year one manga. It's not translated though. But it was good to see Bruce wayne eer goblin slayer as a kid.
Reading the novel, it reminds me of the lord of the rings movie. Especially that sewer story in vol 2. Reminds me of LoR 1.
He really is similar to Batman. No power no anything. Just some human guy who kicks ass. lol. Reading the novel, it's hard to go back to the manga.
After reading the novel, it left me wanting more. That's why I'm here. Love all the info I read here. Thanks.

he is piss that GS was the one who kill her (euthanasia)
and the place where the guild built the newbie training center is where GS's old village used to be.
Spoilers for vol5 on Noble Girl
For anyone still wonder, Noble Girl was Gang Rape by the gobs. GS and party found her on altar setup for the evil gobs

Thanks.
Some parts that manga did better, example: the battle at Cow Girl's town is very brief in LN.

Is there also gonna be a light novel base on Year one? or is it manga only?
I wonder if we gonna see his teacher again. And also I wonder if what rank he is as an adventurer. I think he is the first one with a name right? iirc his teacher's name is thief? lol. (I could be wrong.)
Yeah, there should be one out now, isn't there?

Some parts that manga did better, example: the battle at Cow Girl's town is very brief in LN.
It was brief in a good way. It didn't need four fucking cliffhangers for basically a single chapter's worth. A cliffhanger towards the part the Goblin King knocks Goblin Slayer down would've made a worthy cliffhanger, and that's about it.
Can someone explain what's going on in the coloured image they're gang is sitting and Elf Girl is consoling Priestess?
On a side note, I think the mage kid looks kind of cool albeit somewhat of a smuck.
I had not read book 6, so beyond the test read portion from this point on this synopsis is not mine, meaning it is only as accurate as the original post, with that in mind…
taking on 10 jobs even if it is just goblin is still tiring, so GS in the end had the dwarf shaman use the tunneling spell from book 5 to open a temporary side passage above the hole, then uses scroll to summon water to flood the cave to wash everybody out, goblins with his entire team and kill the remaining alive goblins, this process even with breathable rings from book 4 still making a mess for the two girls in the party.
the boy mage insists to take on only goblin jobs by himself, with all 10 jobs taken by GS the guild girl can only stay with him to wait for the return of GS(insert), GS finally returns by midnight,
a sleepy guild girl: he only wants to exterminate goblins, nothing else, and so he said.
GS: How about joining a party?
guild girl: Doesn’t sound like it.
GS: What a fool.
guild girl: …
boy mage tries to copy down GS’s report but was stopped by GS, GS also refuses boy mage’s request to teach him how to kill goblins, knowing he won’t follow instructions anyway, but GS realizes the boy mage has no places to stay, so he takes him to cow girl’s farm for the night,
boy mage: are you his wife?
cow girl: yes?
GS: not true.(color)
the uncle is against it but yields once GS explains, the boy mage is still suspicious and was thinking making a scene if the food is bad, but the second day breakfast is meat stew and he ends up overstuffing himself with three serving.
2 or 3 more parts to follow.

I hope boy mage becomes his (robin) sidekick. They both have hatred for Goblins. But on the other hand, boy mage is to similar to Priestess to become a sidekick/companion to GS. There's no point in having similar roles. I just hope he won't die. lol.
Maybe he could be a rival. But his a mage though. He is only good for support vs fighting in the frontline like GS. So I don't know what the author has in mind for him.
I hope they sell some action figure/statue about Goblin Slayer. I want to buy one.
Also, it would be hard for this manga/light novel to be adapted to anime. There's just to much rape. But it would be awesome if it gets animated.

The four chapters for that battle is good for me, if the battle just in one chapter, it will be boring, not to worth for GS beg the help from the guild. The scens with Hobgoblin and Champion in manga is good to show how dangerous of goblin horde if they can't have a good war party of adventurers.

Honestly, GS's party is pretty unbalance with 1 tanker/combatant (GS himself), 3 magic users and 1 archers, despite the dwarf, lizardman, high elf archer can do melee combat but limited, they lack of more melee combat specialist, or at least can protect the party from a surprise close attack from behind.
GS and boy mage return to the guild and meet up with the rest of his party, and they were discussing priestess’s failed attempt to qualify for steel rank(color), apparently for that ranks and above the adventurer needs experiences, and that is hard to come by for priestess in a party of all silver rank, so they think priestess should go on some adventures with other party to accumulate her experiences, but then the boy mage starts making snide remarks on priestess(insert).
boy mage: Priest is the kind of people when difficulty arise can only cry for god to help while shaking and do nothing.
the rest of the adventurers of course do not agree, the apprentice cleric girl even wants to jump in to give him a piece of her minds, which only makes the boy mage more enrage and start swearing he will kill goblins by himself, in the end, the female paladin candidate interrupted the fracas, and forced those two to go on a goblin hunt, but with the requirement that priestess be in command.
so GS’s party + boy mage is going to the same tomb ruins(color) where a party of 3 male and 2 female, properly equipped were still annihilated by goblins and troll, (god of truth purposely rolls a bad number) but under the command of priestess instead. the boy mage tries to use his only one time magic fireball right off the bat but was stopped by team member, then after GS and high elf archer found a trap on the door still rushes to open the door to trigger the alarm, (dropping of limbs to elicit scream) once hearing a girl screaming (goblins was in the process of sawing off a female acolyte’s hand) rushing headlong by himself and shoots off his only fireball, then was surrounded by goblins and troll with no means of fighting back(insert). Priestess had no idea how to get out of this situation so she returns the command to GS, GS starts withdrawing while fighting, first by using the gas bomb from book 1 to burn the troll, then using the ice cream making technique from book 2 to freeze the outer surface of troll before they gang up and take the troll down, after they rescue the female acolyte the boy mage still does not admit how badly he messed up, even saying that if his sister was not cut by a poison dagger she would never lose to goblins, so he is the brother of the red hair with glasses girl wizard GS mercy killed from book 1.
back to the ojusama sword girl visiting the sword maiden, the sword maiden tries but even she is unable to totally erase the branding mark on ojusama sword girl, then they were talking about GS, sword maiden asking ojusama what she thinks of GS, ojusama answers GS and his party all are her friends and she is thankful to them for saving her life. and sword maiden showing a sign of relief…(insert)
one more arc to go.

I just hope next volume author Kagyu Kumo wont touch or give screen time for this useless boy mage, I dont like the idea of character stealing another role in the story, it leaves a bad remark for the story, I hope author puts away that character in the next volume as a side character only, for me he is not significant in GS quests and adventure.
wow... the boy mage is literally the reason everything went wrong in that adventure and the only reason they got out was because Priestess knew when shit went bad and handed command back to GS, He may be a decent mage but is a Shitty Adventurer
But logically speaking I think Priestess COULD have lead that adventure to victory if it was just GS and the party

he is not a bad person per se, when he triggered the trap door he did yell at the rest of the party don’t come near him, but his arrogance together with his dislike of GS means he is a terrible teammate in GS’s party, won’t follow GS’s instructions and think himself above others even if everyone in the party had more experiences than he did, his looking down upon religious spell caster is the typical D&D stereotype of magic user. (powerful attack spell user vs secondary support spell caster.)
He may be a decent mage but is a Shitty Adventurer
he is just okay, while the fireball is indeed powerful he can only use magic one time like all the other typical white porcelain beginner, his sister can use magic twice, and priestess, the one he looks down at, can performs 3 miracles even as a white porcelian, he has all his sister’s arrogance and inexperience, without GS he probably will die his first time out against goblins just like his sister.
the guild training ground for newbies opens for business, the female paladin candidate pounds the female rhea warrior(insert), lancer is chasing down greenhorn warrior boy and young scout for gossiping guild girl eschewing lancer. GS is instructing apprentice cleric girl and rhea druid girl the technique of stone throwing(color), afterward lancer wants to invite GS and heavy warrior for a drink,
GS: …
GS looking toward cow girl, cow girl looking back toward GS, cow girl waving her hand with a smile,
GS: …ah, seems to be all right.
and boy mage can only complains about GS beside a tired out female rhea warrior, only to have apprentice cleric girl comments this is from someone who had done nothing against someone already have many achievements, obviously are just useless bellyaching.
at night the three silver ranks having a drink and talk about their childhood dream(insert), GS’s dream is to become an adventurer, and they understand what he means, what you want to do, what you have to do, and what you can do are 3 totally different things.
afterward the GS party split up, GS and high elf archer on their way to kill more goblins, lizard priest and priestess stay at the training ground, and GS asking dwarf shaman to personally instruct boy mage, dwarf shaman’s main point of emphasis is:
“a spell caster’s job is not just to recite spell, but using spell, a wizard who can only throw fireball is only an amateur.”
then during a night instruction GS hears a scream near by, arriving and found a newbie girl adventurer with her face cut off by goblins, after taking cares the goblins and returns to the training ground, they realize half of the newbie adventurers returned to town earlier by dusk is in danger, the goblins show up by digging tunnel right beside the training site, there are also half of the newbies still at the training ground.
so they split up, GS ’s party with lancer/sorcerer to the tunnel, heavy warrior stay behind to guard the training ground, (female paladin candidate is in her period), priestess takes some of the better newbies to support those whom had left early.
at the tunnel they use another tunneling spell to connect a pond to flood the hole, then to have sorcerer deep freeze the hole to make it unusable, afterward they only have to find the nest to destroy the rest of the goblins, at the training ground heavy warrior has no problem taking out the incoming hobgoblin, and when priestess’s party catch up 10 of the 15 earlier departing newbies are already dead from goblin ambush, however due to priestess’s appropriate commands and boy mage changing his way of using magic, they are able to protect the rest of the newbies and withdraw safely, this achievement finally let priestess raises her rank to steel(insert).
in the end the boy mage sill does not want to accredit GS, but he is no longer obsessive with goblin and instead wants to become a dragon slayer, female rhea warrior suddenly appears like a ninja insisting to travel with him while bickering back and forth(insert), GS listen to them and very rarely start laughing out loud, telling them if they ever meet up with a rhea ninja they can reference his name.
the braver return from another dimension after taking care another demon lord, and the return point just happens to be close to the training site.
book 7 will be about high elf archer’s native home forest being raided by goblins.
so book 6’s main theme is really “growth”, the growth of the boy mage and priestess, and the first step for priestess to become independent and step out on her own.

Thank you for the summary/spoilers, it all sounds really fun, not sure when the English translation will reach those volumes (probably sometime next year) but definitely going to buy them. Its always interesting seeing all the characters develop.
Thanks for the info guys. It warms the heart that GS has really become more chill & has regained more of his humanity as well as the Priestess' continued growth & maturity.
The newbie casualties are still pretty high even w/ some proper instructions & leadership...understandable but its still a damn shame. Then again, it further reinforces those evil little monsters true dangers.

Does anyone here know where I can read Goblin Slayer outside of the manga(I'm at the part where GS kills the Goblin Slayer and the Guild kills the Goblin Army)?
Also, just gotta ask, is there any chance this series' got a Big Bad? Because IO have the feeling it'll end with entire nations doing something from Warcraft where they invade the Goblins' homeworld or their largest settlement or changes policy to kill them more often
Buy the light novel on Amazon. We can't give links to translations.

You can buy light novel on Book Walker or other site (digital version), or print version on various page: amazon, bane & noble, etc. Yen Press website has name of those stores for both digital and print version.
As for the year one, I thought it's released both in LN and manga version, thats what I read in Yen Press and Ga bunko website.
yes but you can't say anything about it unless it is out...
and it is out, at least the first chapter?
prologue: describing the battle to save the world, when the united force of order ties down the force of chaos so a 6 person team can challenge the dungeon of death to face down enemy boss. (team member including female priest before she became sword maiden? at least they both used scale sword.)
new specie: bug man
chapter 1: follow exactly like manga's chapter 1, only started when the boy climbed out of the hide out 3 days later, skipping all the gory parts of the beginning.
To be fair, the manga is known for going into.... ahhh... more grisly details about the things better left unsaid.

I was thinking he accrued enough experience for Silver rank over the years just constantly slaying Goblins.
Who? GS? That's why.
You gain ranks based on how much you contribute to society and in the frontier Goblins are a plague. If it had been somewhere else, he probably wouldn't have earned that rank, but he's well-liked enough to receive songs and a reputation throughout the land for slaying Goblins.

Yes.
Basically, Archbishop/Swordmaiden is what Priestess could have become had Goblin Slayer not arrived there.

the novel is not explicit on that, hopefully Year One will go back to that part of story, but most likely? yes.
the debating point is if it happened before or after she became sword maiden/defeat demon lord, (if before then blind she is less likely to defeat demon lord, if after then you are talking a platinum rank fall into the hand of a goblin??) and if she is unpure how she can assume the position of archbishop and perform the virgin ritual to save GS?

Year One is about GS early days and probably won't involve Sword Maiden at all.
As for timeline:
- before demon lord: most probably. Remember. The plan for Priestess devised by Illusion was that she would develop an awesome power to overcome the gobs. Since GS appeared said plan is derailed. Maybe SM discovered that power during her captivity and used it to escape.
- after demon lord: harder. While she can theoretically be beaten if she become way too overconfident and it was a cultist group actually manipulating things from behind, I find it doubtful.
The resurrection spells: Perhaps she supplied the power and incantations while Priestess - the pure one - is the conduit fulfilling the pure maiden part.
Wait, what? She was supposed to develop an awesome power? Where was this listed?

I found this at reddit so I am not sure how legit it was.
The closest thing I can find in volume 1 in the Light Novel is listed in the interlude that she gambled on the party despite the risks and still came out negative when they got a really bad roll of the dice. The moment it was clear they were screwed she just prepared to get some new adventurers when GS came onto the board and kicked those dice off the table. No amount of praying would have given her the power to overcome things by luck, so Priestess would have been killed/violated until GS showed up to clean house.
if she is unpure how she can assume the position of archbishop and perform the virgin ritual to save GS?
prisetess is virgin , she filled that role in the ritual

I gotta ask, why is it that more often than not the manga has significantly better art than the light novel. Differences are really clear at times, the light novel goes for a clean look whereas the manga tries to etch every detail. It's a bit jarring to be honest.

Different artist, I think. That and the focus of the Light Novel is the writing, while the manga lives on the art primarily.

It was dripping w/ meta.

Exactly, people get killed not because Goblins are that dangerous, but because they underestimate them and weren't prepared enough. GB party know better and is made of very capable silver ranked adventurers. Deaths would make goblin Batman look like incompetent idiot.
Also last thing GB need is hate Goblins even more. What he need is learn life is more then killing and adventures are fun. Killing main cast would make recovery of heavily PTSD driven protagonist impossible. In this case not killing anyone is needed for character development not opposite.

Plus, even if we knew they probbaly wins, the fight with the Ogre, the fight with a goddamn Beholder and many more engagements legitimately gave us the feeling that the other side might score a Nat 20 and turn the table around.
Also, death by goblin is probably an escape, because being a female and got caught by them is a a fate infinitely worse.

Yeah, spectacularly bad idea.
There are cases when killing off character is appropriate. Goblin Slayer is not one of them. That YouTube link of yours pretty much confirmed it as well.

I'm with Tenzen here. Killing characters just for the sake of "spetacularity" is bad.
Also, most of the time they're hunting goblins. For them to die by sommething not goblin related, it's an off screen death - which is bad since unless it's a sequel, having one of the main char dies off screen is bad.
Killing Elf girl and Priestess is just practically ASKING for the series to be dropped en masses, especially the latter since she's practically one of GS's strongest anchor - CG the home, GG the workplace and PG the travelling companion

The whole point was, the entire reason why GS goes goblin slaying was to prevent people from getting hurt, and he has been doing this for years. Having his companion died to goblin only destroyed everything the novel build up until now, for GS to have a life beyond goblin slaying. Of anything, the incident only reinforced that GS way of life before meeting the priestess. Which kill every single development over previous volumes. The only thing I see it accomplished is shock factor, which unfortunately not something this novel need

If you read the first four volumes, it seems the story is more about Goblin Slayer slowly but gradually getting Goblin Slayer out of his shell and him learning how to become a more well-rounded person.
If you look where he is now, he's starting to do a lot of new things that he doesn't typically do or hasn't done before. Now that he's actually making new friendships and relationships, he's learning how to do new things. He's starting to get out of his usual comfort zone of "it's all goblins or nothing."
I really wish we could get an anime announcement already. I hope there is some interest, but I only want to see an anime adaptation if it gets the right company and staff and they fully commit to this material. If they half-ass it then no thanks.
I've finally gotten around to reading the 4th volume. In some ways its a lot darker than the regular stories since we get a larger look at things, and the talks of Serfs and Prostitutes being the only option the really poor can take.

He's also slowly, slowly recovering from the trauma that caused him to become such a machine. He's starting to take better care of himself, try to reach out to others , started making joke and generally relax a bit more instead of just singlemindedly hunt goblins days by days. And it was thanks to the people that relentlesly battered at the walls around his heart that thiis happened.
Which make the suggestion of killing an important character - especially the girls - utterly moronic.
And I agree. I fear that if some studios were to adapt this they would just turn it into cheap power wanking harem bullshit.

As many have said, none of the MC or friends of the MC should die to a goblin, it will ruin the story. It disgust me that there people who want that. I think it would be better for the series near the end to have the goblins near extinction so the MC can finally move forward with his life and stop thinking everything is all about goblins.

Yup. We learn more about the two adventurers from the first volume who tried to get Priestess to join them specifically. And yeah, their plight seemed rather dark. They are actually doing the beginner's adventurer work in the sewers with the rats and bugs, and they are just barely scraping by. The boy has to sleep in the stables and loses, and they have almost no money to buy equipment after he loses his sword in the sewers.
We also get another peak into the depravity of the goblins as one chapter is from a goblin's point of view, and yeah that was dark.
I did enjoy Goblin Slayer teaming up with Heavy Warrior and Spearman the most though.

Well now he's actually taking non-goblin adventure jobs, which is pretty huge. He did it for a specific reason, but he still did it.
I mean look, there's definitely some power wanking harem stuff at play with Goblin Slayer. We can't deny the material has definitely taken on the harem aspect, but more than having a dense main character we have a main character who is basically traumatized broken individual. He's basically socially autistic. However, his approach toward combat and his goals also make him very unique and appealing, even though he is too dense to really be aware of the hot ladies around him and the fact that they fancy him like mad.
What I like about the way Goblin Slayer fights is that he always thinks about the fastest most efficient way to kill his foes or win a battle. He doesn't want to give them any chance or opportunity to strike back because that one chance could mean your doom. He doesn't let the enemy's monologue. He doesn't give a shit. He doesn't wait for them to talk or deliver a dramatic soliloquy. He just kills them and moves on.
It's like that spire tower in volume 4. Why the hell should we go inside the stupid spire and play by the Sorcerer's rules? Let's just climb the damn thing straight to the top and off him there. Basically the real-life fantasy realm version of using a warp tool or Game Genie for Super Mario Bros. 3.
Not just them. The talk of having to resort to prostitution and serfs is rather disheartening since it outlines how everyone who isn't an Adventurer or can find steady work is barely scraping by in the frontier while being one means taking huge risks.

It doesn't seem all that bad for everyone. Cow Girl's uncle seems self-sufficient and pointed out that he's not a serf, and they can pretty much run the farm on their own terms. It also seems like their farm does very good business supplying their goods to the nearby town.
I recall the little boy who was playing in the forest and saved by Goblin Slayer, a story which highly resembled Goblin Slayer's own youth, that kid's older sister seems to have a nice job teaching the children at the church in town.
Plus, in the town there doesn't seem to be a lot discrimination or racism toward other races. It seems that the other races, at least on the surface, live together and get along fairly well. You have the Beast-girl waitress at the inn, and the rhea chef. The beast-girl waitress also appears to have a crush on the Blacksmith Apprentice at the guild. They all came off like fairly positive, average joe working types in this adventurer's world.
It seems the ones who are hit the hardest in the Goblin Slayer world are the people living in rural villages as they are the easiest prey for goblins.
Also, got to love how how the author introduced the term "NPC - Non-Prayer Characters" as a world-building term for Goblin Slayer :) Love stuff like that.

I'm abit confused, in the manga year one, cow girl found Goblin Slayer. But in vol. 4 it looks like it's the other way around. Am I correct?
Also is there a reason why the author didn't use real names?
I really like vol 4. It was a nice change. All the short stories where interesting. Ilike the part where Heavy warrior formed a party of 3 to investigate that tower. It was an interesting combination.
Rookie warrior's story was also nice. The hardship of being an adventure in this manga is really similar to Grimgar novel/manga.

I don't recall anything like that in Volume 4. Can you jog my memory and describe what scene you are referring to. It might've been a matter of perspective. Also, I don't think there were any flashbacks to five years ago in Volume 4.
To SamVision, Year One is canon as far as I know. I haven't seen any major contradictions.
As for the reunion, I liked how it was done. She thought she had seen him when he went by the farm beforehand on the way to the Guild. Is it a little melodramatic? Yes. Convenient? Yes. However, I also sort of believed it that there was something about Goblin Slayer that she inherently recognized from her childhood friend, even wearing a mask and armor.
I also liked seeing Goblin Slayer wait there the whole time, looking at the moon, wishing he'd could go up to the moon to kill all the goblins :D

Around the middle of volume 4 there's a short story where Heavy warrior found a tower inhabited by a demon or something. He decides that it's best handled by a party of silver ranks; at minimum a tank, scout and spell caster. The witch was tired and on break so it was Heavy Warrior, Lancer and GS(who had no Goblin slaying quest to do but needed money). Since they don't have a thief or pure spellcaster they're not going to conquer the 60+ floor tower the normal way so they climb up the wall. @anbu yeah they were an amusing trio for sure.

Shadowarc, yeah I know that scene. I was more referring to anbu corps asking about Goblin Slayer being found by Cow Girl instead of the other way around.
I figured Goblin Slayer wanted the extra money to buy Cow Girl a gift. Instead, he just gave her an extra sack of money so she could buy a gift for herself. As amusing as it was, I wish he would've bought her a gift, a weird gift or something, but an actual gift to give her. I figured he wanted the extra money because he had a gift in mind for her. Oh well.
Also is there a reason why the author didn't use real names?
because this novel started as a BBS fan fiction with a heavy dig of D&D and TRPG gaming, by being named after the profession/description instead of proper name this way readers can substitute them with names they like just as if themselves are playing a TRPG.
yes, GS himself is really modeled after Dark Soul and Batman.

I like the naming convention. It gives the story a nice unique quality. My only issue with it is that it's sometimes hard to keep track of peripheral characters in the books. In the manga it's easier since most of the characters all look distinct and different.
Also, why does this thread have a yandere tag? No one in Goblin Slayer is really yandere. Cowgirl is basically a "deredere." High Elf Archer acts like a tsundere at times.

Auto-correct. There is totally appearance, part of Yandere is also showing the gentle loving appearance as well, which Goblin Slayer doesn't really have. Where is the "dere" of the "Yandere" for Goblin Slayer?
Also I just looked up Yandere:
Japanese term for a person who is initially very loving and gentle to someone (or at least innocent) before their devotion becomes destructive in nature, often through violence and/or brutality. The term is derived from the words yanderu (病んでる) meaning a mental or emotional illness, and deredere (でれでれ) meaning to show affection.
So there you go. Goblin Slayer doesn't really fit that description at all. His violence and destructive nature is all directed at Goblins. He doesn't act gentle and loving with them before he brutally kills them. He's kind to his friends and allies, but he's not necessarily really gentle with them either. In fact, he's downright rude to the Sword Maiden when he and his party go to meet her, with Priest Girl and High Elf Archer both chastising him for his behavior. That's not the MO of a yandere. If the tag does not fit you must acquit!

novel #7, as expected from the forecast of novel #6, deals with
High Elf Archer and her native forest being invaded by goblins, but with a twist, with High Elf Archer being recalled to home for marriage, also there are hints of something ancient…

It's irrelevant who the cover girl is.
Volume 4 had Guild Girl in the cover, and she didn't get any particular focus.
Volume 2 had High Elf Archer, but it revolved mostly around Priestess and Sword Maiden.
Anyhow, are volumes 5 and 6 similar to volumes 1 and 2 that are considerably adventure/goblin slaying centric, as opposed to volumes 3 and 4 that were more SoLish?

In D&D there are goblin females. The use other races females is nonsense or at least without a clear reason.
In RE:moster there is a "reason" because humans are the best for breeding, then for the fact that it is equally stupid is another story:rolleyes:....
Thinking about chaos god is possible that goblins are "artificial" creatures or deep in their territory there are female goblins or a sort of surrogate (breeding "machine"):heh:

Not really. A lot of female goblins in DND left their original land because they were expected to be breeding machines and it was too much for them.

Uh, goblins - from what is implied - is possibly an alien species created by Truth.
The world building is fine, because the story follows GS, and GS isn't some sort of world travelling hero so his knowledge - and by extension, ours - is limited.

I can just imagine it: The story starts out like your typical shonen. Then it starts showing the members flashback as they slowly drops in number, and ends with GS dramatically slaying the goblin and saving Priestess.
The reactions to the anime only viewers will be priceless. Also, I'm betting the anime will probably come out in Late 2018.

I just don't know how you abbreviate three volumes into only 12 episodes and it will still be good.
If we get 24 episodes then yeah.
I just feel the end of volume 1 is the perfect ending for the first season. Especially if we don't get more. Let's face it, it's not the norm for these shows based light novels to get follow-ups. An ending with the first volume and then going into the gods playing a board game and seeing the little Goblin Slayer kicking the dice out of the gods hand. And this:
"He would not save the world. He might not even change anything. After all, he was just another pawn, such as you might find anywhere. But he would not let the gods roll the dice. Thus, even the gods did not know what this adventurer's fate would be. His fight continues somewhere. Even now."

That looks like an elf, not a goblin. No one would believe her if she claimed to be a gob. Especially since females aren't born to the little bastards.
test read of GS #7 and gaiden #1 are out, including all the color and the first b&w insert pictures. so far they confirmed what we already know of the stories, and a few things not:
- it was high elf archer’s elder sister marrying her cousin.
- cow girl and receptionist girl tag along for the party. (but not for the end fight...)
- priestess got a new miracle “purify”
- swim suit galore, so they invented bikini already?
- there will be a dragon. (dino variety)
- GS: so that is an elephant. HEA: Wrong!
- chaos speak their spell in English :)
- confirmed, sword maiden was already blind when taken down the demon lord ten years ago.
the real things will be out in a couple of weeks.

That's what the Hero (the Haruhi lookalike) is for.
She's an OP character who brings down Demons and the like with relative ease.
She and GS met once in volume 3 (when he was digging those holes), but that's all the interaction they had.
That being said, it's unlikely they'll be rivals since GS only works on Goblins, whereas the Hero mostly focuses on big threats.

Except he's not only working on goblins anymore. In Volume 1, he beat an ogre. In volume 2 he beat a Beholder demon. In Volume 3, he beat a dark elf sorcerer. And in volume 4, he teamed up with Heavy Swordsman and Spearman to beat an evil sorcerer and conquer his spire. His main interest is goblins, but in volume 4, he voluntarily went on another quest in order to earn some extra money to get Cowgirl a gift. And he's inexplicably drawn into other quests where he ends up facing other types of monsters.
So while he'd probably prefer it, he's not only all about goblins anymore.
But other than that. Yeah the female chosen hero is basically the Superman counterpart to Goblin Slayer's Batman.

Actually, going by cosmetic, Isekai Superman fits more.
Batman is an Earth native, while Superman is from Krypton aka alien. So if Goblin Slayer - born and lived in this world - were to be Batman, then the Superman counterpart would also be someone from another world thus Isekai Superman.

Also this. Plus, GS doesn't give a flying damn about other threats, just goblins. Unless someone ask him to, GS doesn't work on others.
Plus, if the Platinum Hero ever wipe out the goblins then GS would actually thank him for it, because to him, it would be best if there are no goblins at all.

Also, how do we know the female chosen hero from the light novels looks like Haruhi? Has there been an image of her yet?
Is this girl from volume 5 who loses her team and gets attacked by Goblins the one everyone is referring to?

If it is her. She doesn't appear to be a Haruhi expy at all other than some slight similarities with the hair after she cuts it off. But only slightly.
Keep in mind I've only read up to the official Volume 4 release and nothing else. So can anyone confirm that this girl from volume 5 is the same one from the interludes in the earlier volumes?
I wasn't under the impression the adventurers Goblin Slayer met in Vol. 4 included the female hero who found the chosen hero's sword in the earlier interludes. It didn't come off that way reading it, but I could've misinterpreted something.
I do remember that particular adventurer (the chosen female hero) coming up again in volume 4. She came off as incredibly ditzy and airheaded to me. Not like Goku dumb, but just airheaded.

That actually wasn't chapter 7. It was an Interlude told from the female hero's POV in between chapters 6 and 7 of Volume 3. I also remember why I forgot about it. It was an interlude that broke from the main story, and it was told in another narrative perspective.
I went back and reread it. It looks like she and her party went to River Town and met the Sword Maiden. And yeah it wasn't all that memorable of an appearance. It's a very short appearance, and she doesn't really describe or name any of her fellow party members. They are fighting some sort of agent of chaos or centipede monster, and it abruptly ends right when the hero is delivering her attack. We barely spend any time with her or her party at all in that chapter.
Also, her party did appear earlier in chapter 2 - Festival's Eve, we just don't have any names. Specifically when GS was setting up traps like usual and ran into another group, with a woman from said group pointing his sword at GS because she thought he was an undead.
I remember that scene. However, as I recall reading it, there was no identifying in that sequence that she was the chosen female hero. I recall there was one swordswoman and two other party members who were also women. It probably was the the female hero, and I didn't put two and two together at the time. Because as I was reading it, there were no specific descriptions or identifiers in the text that made me think, "ah these are the same people." Based on other reactions, I thought this was going to be the party with the lone female noble swordswoman from volume 5. So I was confused and didn't put two and two together.
I do remember the chosen female hero showing up in Volume 4 that properly establishes her whole party. Again, as I recall, she comes off like a bit of a ditz and airhead. She came off that way in her introductory interlude in the first volume as well.
In Chapter 7 of Volume 3, Hero's part is made up of Hero, Sword Master (a man), and Sage (a woman). As I recall, the party that appeared in Volume 3 when Goblin Slayer was setting traps were all women.

No. Hero and party didn't go to River Town to met Sword Maiden. They goes to the village our heroes are in, communicated with SM in the spiritual plane thanks to a ritual during the harvest festival.
And the one they fought is involved with GS side of the story as the patron for this volume antagonist.
It didn't really broke from the main story, but rather, it shows what is going on behind the scene. A reversal of the usual case.

-> GS encounter a strange party that suddenly shows up at the village and try to hide themselves.
-> In an Interlude after that, the Mother Superior said "O brave Hero" right after the other party mentions a strange adventurer who made said other party thinks that "an undead has possessed a suit of living armor", which is one of the many descriptions for GS.
-> Hero directly mentions meeting up with Sword Maiden via ritual at the harvest festival.
Yeah, I don't see how you couldn't make the connections. As Chekhov's put it:
"If you say in the first chapter that there is a rifle hanging on the wall, in the second or third chapter it absolutely must go off. If it's not going to be fired, it shouldn't be hanging there."
I do remember the chosen female hero showing up in Volume 4 that properly establishes her whole party. Again, as I recall, she comes off like a bit of a ditz and airhead. She came off that way in her introductory interlude in the first volume as well.
Part of why the Haruhi comparison came about: She do things at her own pace and always have strange ideas compared to her peers.
In Chapter 7 of Volume 3, Hero's part is made up of Hero, Sword Master (a man), and Sage (a woman). As I recall, the party that appeared in Volume 3 when Goblin Slayer was setting traps were all women.

Yeah, those details didn't really come off all that clearly.

Yes it did. It's an interlude chapter. The main story involves Goblin Slayer and his party members. It went away from those scenes and went to a different location entirely for a brief interlude to show what Hero and her party were doing.

To me that's not example of Chekhov's Gun. An example of that is the scroll setup. For example, Witch telling priestess about the scroll. High Elf Archer asking Goblin Slayer about the scroll. Goblin Slayer telling her not to touch it, and then Goblin Slayer using it to one-shot the Ogre in the first volume.
I think what you are talking about is more like Occam's Razor.

Re-reading it, not super clear. Sounds like it's from the perspective of a male adventurer and his companion on some sort of delivery quest. And it seems they just happen to coincidentally be riding in the same carriage as a party of three female adventurers. This could be the chosen female hero's party.
It sounds like he's a rude with his manner of speaking and makes a rather inappropriate comment, so one of the adventurers casts a spider web spell on him as a result and another female member of that party apologizes.
It sounds like he was basically trying to warn the girl party to be careful. So I get the sense that it was two veteran adventurers who happened to run into the hero's party who were also on their way to River Town.
I think what the author is trying to get across that while Goblin Slayer is off doing his Goblin Slaying quests, there's a new chosen hero in town who is having the real big world changing adventures. But that subplot is in the background, while Goblin Slayer's main adventure is in the forefront.

*sigh*
Won't comment about the all female party, but the other side? It's Lancer and Witch.
When the POV char complained about being hit with Spider Web, we have this line:
“I, apologize for my, indelicate, companion…”
There's only one person with that particular kind of speech, and since they're always together, it makes sense that the other guy is Lancer. Plus, Witch casting Spider Web on Lancer is easy to see.
Then later on we have GS meeting with Lancer and thanking the latter for coming all the way here.
-> The interlude is from Lancer's POV as he's riding with Witch to the town as a favor to GS.

I guess it makes sense if it was them. However, I don't recall any other instance on Witch chastising Spearman like that before. Also, he's not called Lancer. He's Spearman. Lancer is a Fate/Zero character.
Once again though, it wasn't easy to tell based on the way the chapter was written and the writer didn't really properly identify the characters. We can only allude on who the characters are supposed to be, like the party of three all women adventurers the are traveling with who show up in another chapter and are likely the chosen Hero's party.
Actually you could use the name Lancer for him. That's what the actual Japanese version uses in the character description page with English spellings for the names/job of the characters.
He even has access to magic like Lancer does with Runes.

I'm sorry, but...
-> Lancer
-> A Fate/Zero character
Let me laugh for a bit.
Okay, in regards to Fate, when people just use Lancer, without any other prefix they're usually referring to the ORIGINAL Lancer from Fate Stay Night. That or the class itself.
And the two are very very similar. Hell, there's a panel in the GS manga that is practically a shout out: during the farm defense, one scene show the arrows not bring repelled around Lancer. While it's later revealed to be Witch's work, it's a reference to one of Lancer skill: Protection from Arrows.
As for your second point, the author did hint at who they were, as I pointed out: Witch very distinct speaking style.
First time I've seen someone use Lanced to refer to Diarmuid. Normally he gets Zero Lancer or some joke on his name.

I guess it makes sense if it was them. However, I don't recall any other instance on Witch chastising Spearman like that before. Also, he's not called Lancer. He's Spearman. Lancer is a Fate/Zero character.
.
Calling Spearman Lancer is perfectly fine, they are same person after all.In other hand calling Deermut the Lancer is as wrong as you get.
First time I've seen someone use Lanced to refer to Diarmuid. Normally he gets Zero Lancer or some joke on his name.

I've always called him NTRLancer actually.
Oh, and for comparison:

Simply put, Spearman is a dead ringer for Lancer, just with different hair color and armor.

I hope he won't share Fate's Lancer karma. One thing being a butt-monkey and one being tragicllly killed off.

All lancers die a dog's death, though I do have to admit, getting killed by random runaway battery might take a cake in being most pathetic one even if he is loosing in tragedy department.
As for Spearman, I am pretty sure Witch can take break any incoming death flag trying take away her man. I am not worried (it's completely unrelated to GS being too nice and fluffy to kill actual character off).

I'm sorry, but...
-> Lancer
-> A Fate/Zero character
Wasn't a very strong hint. Just one line with an ellipses at the end.
