Anime project for Ange Vierge announced at the Fantasia Bunko Festival.
Premise/Synopsis:
The story of the card game follows what happens when "Hairō" portals suddenly open, fusing three different worlds together. As a result, various mysterious "Exceed" powers are awakened in teenaged girls. An academy for these so-called "Progress" girls is built on the isolated Seiran Island in the Pacific.

Not a bad first episode. Though I might need sunglasses with the amount of light beams everywhere. A rare time I might just ask that they put the girls in clothes so we don't need that much censoring everywhere :heh:.
You start to get an idea of the various personalities and a starting point for the situation in this series. Of course there is obviously plenty going on for all these girls to explain what they are thinking and why they have certain goals or motivations. But it's enough to get the general picture right now.
Saya kind of starting out as a frustrating lead. I'm sure there is something going on there, but frankly she just sounds really selfish. Someone who was overlooked and didn't have a lot of friends before she gained her power, then got really excited and felt special. After that realizing that she's hardly the only person in the universe with special abilities and now can't stand not standing out.
Not that just being happy with the status quo would be good, they do need to protect all life here. But, it seems like her desire isn't about doing good or helping anyone. She just wants to stand out more. I mean really, having the ability to control light isn't special? Yeah, I'm pretty sure it actually is special. Seems like someone who could easily get bored with any level of power or type of ability.

The first episode itself was okay, but I felt like the staff did not do a good job at introducing the series to the viewers very well besides the first few minutes and the ending scene. It may not have a lot of sexy fanservice later on, but the premiere just show a bunch of female characters in one big bathtime trying to talk about self-determination things about saving the whole while the director emphasizes their naked bodies in various camera angles before finishing these with very annoyingly heavy censoring, they could have saved all of it later and not in this episode. Just keep the same dialogue lines (which were in fact quite interesting and understandable to me in contrast) while not having any bathing scenes in the same episodes and it would do much better than what we got. Here's hoping this episode looks misleading so we don't have to suffer non-stop bathing service for the rest of the series (even though I'm a bathing service sucker myself).

Episode 1:
The only part I'm impressed so far is the world building details and parts of the action.
Almost half the first episode was bath fan service (censored as well) which was rather distracting. I didn't mind it but felt it was way too dragged even with their dialogues. Character designs looks kinda generic as well. Well, I'll give it more episodes but it wasn't impressive to me yet. Everything felt like it happened too fast in the final few minutes.

To much censorship. They should have either to tone it down like in Strike Witches or avoid so much ecchi. Also it has to many mobage references. As a player I just don't want to see this things in anime, I saw them to many times in games.

Well that was a long bath time just so steamy and so much light kind of seems like strike witches
What was that. More than 10 mins of bath time? Wtf
The battle was kind of dull too :(

I believe they needed more times spent on doing other things. Besides sitting in the bath for over half the eppy. The battle was okay and could have been better.

Episode 1:
All I can say is that Ange Vierge is similar to Strike Witches but on a grander scale with fears of losing their five worlds and such.
Meanwhile, it's funny that the Progress girls level up their rarity in the anime where it's not possible unless Sega and Kadokawa make a new expansion pack, where they'll make stronger versions of those existing characters! :heh:

I know they want to advertise the card game, but no one is gonna be motivated enough to buy it if the anime doesn't make.... something, anything attractive. Even Luck & Logic had a more attractive (and understandable) 1st episode.
Look at this episode.
First part, the setting. Juts a huge narrative of the setting. Which probably won't be registered by the viewers.
Second part, a lot and lot of people doing everything naked... Which is fine, except you have censors. Oh yeah, the protagonist can control light. Must be the reason, har-har...
Third part, some kind of battle. Some kind... I think it's more important that the characters finally dressed up. I thought this was a girls-only + no-clothing world...

I didn't get far before I realized that there's a very specific reason Saya isn't able to advance: she's never able to go all-out because she uses her light-manipulation powers for other things. She's got her work cut out for her in what appears to be the multiversal naturism headquarters. Someone please tell me that, like HXH, this has an aired version that doesn't work her out so hard.

OMG!!! ray is that you?????, what the main girl of star wars is doing in a "moe" ecchi fanservice:heh::heh::heh::heh:, lol that light saber and girl flying totally star wars like, then we get a "formule 1 car girl( all the soundes of a formule 1 car running) lol, to be serious i could not really bear with the stupid level of this serie and dropped the episode in his half, i will gonna give a try again later but really for a first episode this was really a very bad one.
I'm not sure if I'm supposed to take the Ouroboros threat seriously. For now I guess I'll focus on what it feels like, and it feels like idols fighitng for a center except they aren't idols but whatever. The girls are cute at least and I'm hoping for some proper fanservice (not talking about the censorship), because girls running around naked is fine and all, but there's just not enough eros to it.

For someone who can control light, there was a distinct lack of focused beam weaponry. I would think that would be the first thing to come to mind. Restricting herself to a laser sword and insisting on fighting at close range is why she's not doing better, not any flaw in her power or her handler.

I'll have to agree with everyone's opinions on ep1. :heh:
It felt like they "sacrificed" half the episode to get the "fanservice episode" over with, and then the next episodes they can just focus on the plot with some minor fanservice here and there...sure hope so :heh:
Tried out the mobage...and as far as I've gone, it's different from the anime as it has no Neuroi Ouroboros
Character's rarity go from N, HN, R, HR, SR and UR...so I'm inclined to think the anime is based on the trading card game :uhoh:

Yes, but my point is that the Mobage and TCG use slightly different rarity systems, and the one mentioned in the anime is different.
I just checked out the official website, and the TCG uses C, U, R, SR, ST, PR, VR, EXR...that's a lot of 'em :heh:
Basically, whatever rarity system they're using in the anime, it's the equivalent to a ranks in power level.
Anyway, let's hope the next episode will have more plot than the first :heh:

Episode 1
Dat nudity. They were basically roaming around the place like nudists. If only it wasn't censored. It didn't have much focus on boobs and butts or groping and stuff, they kinda showed the nudity casually (if that makes sense). The artwork was good, the girls were cute (which was a given because Silver Link.), the story though, isn't anything interesting at all. The enemy is a giant dildo lol. That's something I guess. Anyway, this so doesn't have my interest. It didn't even have much comedy or attempts at comedy which most shows tend to have if everything else about them sucks. I'll maybe give it another episode mainly because I have time to spare on crap but I probably won't be seeing this to the end. The cute naked can't save it no matter how much it tries.

I have a feeling we'll be getting a lot of cliffhangers in this show.
I'm not liking Saya much after this week's episode in regards to her personality. Action felt it was like all over the place. I'll give it more episodes but not impressed yet.

After last week episode (which actually used the prolonged fanservice scene just to dump a lot of information) I wasn't really expecting this turn of events, so I'm a bit curious on how it'll develop from now.
I know Saya is supposed to be annoying but whats really bothering me is that no one is stopping her from talking reckless. SHE IS TO BLAME for getting hurt in battle that goes to the alpha driver. The fact that no one is bringing that up is annoying me. However i understand that its part of the stories narrative so im not going to fault it too much. Hopefully she gets told off soon. Or atleast understands how wrong she is.

Saya knows she fucked up, and she would like Amane to call her out on that. Saya gets frustrated because Amane doesn't do that. That's what made her think Amane wasn't serious about getting stronger.

Her using a sword is probably out of admiration for her senpai, who uses a sword as well. She's annoyingly sheepish towards her. Other than that, control/manipulation of light is rather OP, so it's not that big of a deal if it gets downplayed this much in the beginning.
Saya knows she fucked up, and she would like Amane to call her out on that. Saya gets frustrated because Amane doesn't do that. That's what made her think Amane wasn't serious about getting stronger.
She doesn't get that not everyone has the same values, goals, interests and desires as her. I haven't seen episode two yet, but I hope she'll get her comeuppance. If anything, she should try to have her power reach maturity (if she wasn't the main character, she would've already reached the most of her potential given that she had to work hard to get out of C rank).

Sure, but that's a different issue. She certainly has a lot of growing up to do, but she's not unwilling to admit her failures in battle like moodie implied.

Episode 2:
Damn, SILVER LINK just made a wham episode of Amane Ayashiro being frozen together with her fellow α drivers at Seiran Island! Does it mean that there's only one α driver left to fight off against Ouroboros?
Still, SILVER LINK wants us to sink into despair after each episode!

Sure, but that's a different issue. She certainly has a lot of growing up to do, but she's not unwilling to admit her failures in battle like moodie implied.Unfortunately she's only willing to do so in the most selfish of ways. I mean she does whatever she wants in a fight and then demands people chew her out for it in a way that satisfies her? How about she does some personal review? In the end she doesn't learn anything from her failures. She just deflects her frustrations onto others and is ready to screw up all over again.
Right now I'm waiting for a good attribute outside of being able to recognize mistakes, since it is done in the most aggressive way a person can do that. Still just seems like a very selfish person. Went from unknown to feeling special, to not feeling quite so special when she saw so many others with amazing abilities. She's too busy feeling down about controlling the power of light to see how good her situation is.

Episode 2
When the episode started I thought they would go back and then show whatever happened to reach the point of the first episode or something. Even though the first episode wasn't really exciting in any way, it still would have been quite good. But then I found out that there was literally no point in showing Amane and Saya looking for the dorms on their first day of school. They might as well have shown some naked girls in that time because obviously that's what they like doing here.
They should really tell what the relationship between the low ranked main characters and their higher ranked respective senpais is. Why is Almaria only talking with Sofia and not with others? Why is Stella only with Carene and not anyone else? And why are those higher ranked senpais acting like they're good friends? They should really show how each pair met up and how they got in this relationship of friendship or something because all this really feels off to me.
The whole episode was so so until the last moment when it was discovered that the dildos were a distraction and the tentacles were the real enemy and attacked while the main force was out. And then the tentacles attacked the alpha drivers which shows that these things have some intelligence and are working with a plan and not just mindlessly killing the girls in their way. It sure added some tension but the rest of the episode was so meh that this final part couldn't make up for it. One more episode to see whether it can make it through. The crystallized Amane is making me give this another episode.

Well, this is kind of looking like Highschool Fleet, I thought we were getting a show of super powered girls fighting these alien invaders, overcoming their personal issues, deepening their friendship and awakening to their true potential...but instead, we get a twist like this. :heh::heh:
So now, one of two things may happen:
- The Progress girls now have to fight without the boost provided by their Alpha Drivers and will continue fighting until they find a way to free them.
or
- Amane is freed from the crystal prison by the power of friendship, and for the time being, becomes the only Alpha Driver capable to aiding in battle.
Place your bets

No they don't need to tell you that. It's obvious just by looking. The low ranked girls talk with their senpai from the same planets they come from. You can tell they come from the same planets because they have similar powers. For example, the angel-looking main character talks with an angel-looking senpai.
If you were in a school that gathers people from different planets, you would naturally gravitate to and talk more with the people coming from your own planet. They don't have to explain that.

If you ask me, Saya needs to learn that she has one of the most amazing powers in the freaking world and start using it properly. Also to stop being a charge-ahead self-absorbed Leroy-Jenkins girl. I recently decided to check this series out.
Character designs look good, basic series premise sounds promising.
The very first scene of Episode 1 made me think of Strike Witches, but with the Witches replaced by various flashily-attired superpowered girls that are all like mid-to-high level comic book superheroes. That first action scene in Episode 1 was extremely cool, and appealed a lot to me, with one exception - the enemies seemed rather underwhelming.
And after that opening scene, Episode 1 quickly descended into "Angst and Casual Nudity: The Anime!" I initially didn't connect to Saya that much - To me, she's like a successful pro baseball player that's heavily angsting that he's not an all-star baseball player. It's generally good to aim for the top, but Saya, you're already special compared to your average human being.
So I ended up kinda disappointed with Episode 1, but then I decided to give it another chance with Episode 2... and Episode 2 was excellent. Mainly because the enemies jumped drastically in quality here, and came off as serious threats that wouldn't be easily overpowered/outsmarted. Also because Episode 2's final scenes showed some truly bold developments.
So after the first two episodes, I like this show! It's a fun show with a lot of good elements to it. I like how there's five distinct types of superpowered girls, each with their own distinct specializations and fighting styles (ex: science-world tends to put a lot of emphasis on speed, we Earthlings seem to really love swords and sword-fighting, etc...)
What's probably a good nutshell description for this show:
Symphogear meets Magic: The Gathering ;)

What's up with the recent rise of "Ranking Wars"...
Between this and Qualidea Code... the main characters in both are all stuck up about "I will be the strongest, I am the only one, I am the chosen, Ranking means Everything"...
Feels too dramatic and self conscious..., not sure if I want to keep on watching or not...
(plus the "peer pressure" pretty much screwed the other girl over...)
IE: when the main characters talks about Ranking, I have this huge urge to punch them in the face.
(which when I think about it... these 2 stuck up main characters in different anime are a match made for each other, LOL, too bad the merged worlds doesn't include Qualidea Code's world)

Pretty much :heh:
For those not familiar with the several words in Ange Vierge, I'll summarize what comes from each world.
Blue World (Earth): Humans...pretty obvious.
Black World (Darkness Embrace): Demons, Witches, Vampires, Elves, Demi-Humans...basically anything dark/evil. Also has Orcs, but they are a jolly bunch that only care about comparing strength :heh:
Red World (Terra Rubiri Aurora): God(desses), Angels, Fairies, Saints and anything cosidered holy/sacred/pure.
White World (System White Eguma): Androids, Scientists, Programs and Viruses.
Green World (Grunewald Silt): Military and Espers...or maybe the ESP part is their Exceeds? :heh:
Out of the five worlds, green is the strangest imo...possibly because it was later added in the TGC.
The mobage's story is also different from the anime. Maybe they wanted to keep everyone in the dark and at the edge of their seats :heh:

Human world (Blue), a fantasy world based on medieval europe (Black), a world based on the age of myths (Red), a sci-fi world (White) and a world mostly covered in forests (Green).

As a plus, some info on Dr. Michael. She's a genius scientist who built all the android Progress with "Code Omega" in their name. The higher their number, the younger they are, so that makes Stella the youngest.

I have to say, is this going to be one of the most naturist anime series around? The first episode had everyone butt naked half the episode and episode 2 wasn't that much better. I couldn't help but wonder if anime can get more nudist than this. Not that I'm complaining; I just feel sorry for our heroine who must be working herself to the bone using her light powers to make all those censor glares. Someone give the poor girl a chance to rest. That said, it would be kind of funny to have them actually keep the glare in the BDs until some point near or at the end when suddenly everyone's exposed as Saya sighs and mutters "I'm taking a break". I don't know about anyone else but I think that'd be awesome.

Just watched the first episode.
Seems like a cluster of the past year or two of mediocre battle LNs.
Seems its a card game thing, so I guess I shouldn't set my expectations that high.
From the few battle scenes, are they gonna be fighting phallic symbols the whole way?

I have to say, is this going to be one of the most naturist anime series around? The first episode had everyone butt naked half the episode and episode 2 wasn't that much better. Funny thing is the official anime website has an online manga there. It jokes about events each episode, and the first one makes a reference to that :heh:

LOL. Only thing that would make that better is if at some point one or two of the girls notice a very strange tan pattern. I'd bet those blobs of light emit some UV rays, and having tiny suns hovering directly above your crotch, butt and boobs would almost certainly make some odd patterns.

Episode 3
So the alpha drivers are just asleep while being frozen in time. And since they can't do anything just by standing around, Saya and friends go to Ryuujin islands to try and get the senpais back since they haven't been contacted yet. And the senpais have turned over to the dark side. Dark evil Hinata tells Saya that she's a loser, weakling, etc and isn't working as hard as Amane etc and whatever happens and Saya gets a power up and she defeats Hinata. Hinata gets defeated easily because she partially unlinked herself unlike Mikage and the others.I like how Hinata still remembered to cover her breasts while fainting after being defeated.
Pretty boring stuff. They continue with that story in the beginning before the OP which is pretty useless by now. The episode started with Saya and Amane time during their first day at school again. Probably to show the relationship between the two and what Saya is fighting for or whatever. This episode didn't end on an interesting note like the previous one. I'm really not willing to go ahead here. This was pretty boring. Although it had almost no nudity if you compare this episode to the previous two showings which is commendable. But they'll probably make up for it in the next episode.

Dr. Michael holding that Game Gear is the only thing that I like on this episode. So while the α drivers are suspended in a living crystal, I can't believe that the Progress fighting at Ryuujin Islands has turned to the Dark Side!
I don't know if this show is making us feel depressed nor what Ouroboros is (unless it's a representation of us fans corrupting girls by buying lewd doujins), I feel that Ange Vierge will have a long and rocky road ahead.

Now see, Saya using her power as a telescope is the sort of creativity she's been needing to apply to her combat. Obvious she can do more than just lightsaber things: folks are just being lazy.
When in doubt, blowing someone up cures everything. Brainwashing, possession, world-ending apocalypses, arguments, wavering friendships: anything can be resolved by applying sufficient firepower to the problem.

Also, I hope they'll be fighting other Progress than the SR/EXR girls serving as stage bosses for each world. This assumption is based on the number of "frozen" α drivers, and that each α driver has a team of 5 girls to link with. :uhoh:

Which is kind of ironic...I mean, if the Ouroboros' objective is to destroy the 5 worlds...they chose a risk tactic.
Sure, sealing the α drivers was very smart, but converting them to the dark side, and by extension corrupting the Progress they were linked with may not be so smart a move.
They're given a reason to fight each other, which generates Extra and delays the collision of the worlds. :heh:

So, I guess we'll be getting each character's "backstory" when they have to go to another world :heh:
We get some backstory on Almaria, for obvious reasons...I knew of her complex towards drinking blood, but I thought it was the act of vampirism, rather than drinking it :heh: As for her Exceed, it's the ability to manipulate blood she touches.
For Elel's Exceed, as you might've guessed from this episode, it's the ability to borrow a friend's Exceed, which is considered a unique ability.
Though there is no official romanization for her Exceed's name, I think it's written "El Friend", just because her name is Elel :heh:
And now we know what happened to the other Progress...they got turned into soldiers, it shows what the Ouroboros' plan was before Saya screwed it :heh:
...Kinda sad to see Mayuka as a side character, but then again, she's one of the main characters in Ange Vierge Linkage manga :D

Also, a little bit of knowledge: Mayuka, Euphiria, Miumi, Sofina and Ruby are some of the most popular characters in Ange Vierge.

I really like the way this show is handling its antagonists. It's basically getting to have the best of both worlds.
The antagonists now have some genuine personality on their side, and they can come across as theatrically villainous without having to hold back. In the process of doing so, they also get to drive character development for the protagonists by making colorful and somewhat-accurate insults of the protagonists. The Dark Side proceeds know the protagonists, so they're knowledgeable enough to make biting insults and criticisms that truly motivate the protagonists, making for effectively fun/intense character drama and action scenes.
But at the same time, the Dark Side is clearly warping people against their will, so any of the currently antagonistic proceeds will likely be rehabilitated easily if they're defeated and given back mental freedom. So the talking antagonists in this show kinda get to have the best of both worlds - the best of colorful over-the-top villains, and the best of sympathetic antagonists that will be reformed (they voice some legitimate criticisms, they're completely forgivable).

Episode 4:
I don't really want to delve much into the series itself; particularly because I'm quite a bit biased into this show. I was already glued by their PV around a year or two ago, and truth be told, a little bit of flashback doesn't really hurt the story much at all, in fact, imho, I think that it takes a little bit of genius to paste enough backstory so that each present event doesn't feel so fast. (Man, I wish I could say the same for Rewrite, lel). Yeah, BITCH SAVED THE WORLD, GDI.
That being said, I feel that the ultimate irony here is that they were only saved BECAUSE of how weak their link was. It's kind of like avoiding the trap because you're too stupid to go INTO the trap.

That seems to be the case :heh:
It doesn't help that they threw away most of the setting (or maybe they expect the viewer to know it?)
It's kinda sad though, the mobage shows that the series has a lot of background, and it's way more developed than one expects :/
Like for example, Seiran Island is way more developed than shown in the anime: aside from the school, it also has a city, suburbs, shopping district, theme park, camping site, etc...
Seiran Academy in the anime looks more like it came from the White World :heh:
In the mobage, it's portrayed like a modern japanese school, with some high tech here and there.

Afaik, the manga is a lot more serious. It's called Anve Vierge Linkage.
I think it was released along with the introduction of the Green World characters, who in the mobage (and probably in the card game too) have Linkage ability: a party buff/enemy debuff/defense ignoring attack that can be used by that character to support the others you send to battle.
Yeah, in the previous episode they said they're the Ouroboro's "elite troops". :heh:

Leaving the Blue World the only one left fighting... cause apparently everyone else from the other world goes to the Blue World, who seems to be the Headquarter of all the Worlds. There's no need to capture them. The α driver they were linked to were trapped in those crystals and that corrupted their links, turning them to the dark side.
Doesn't matter how strong someone is, getting mind controlled will turn them into the enemy's puppet...but in this case it might be due to the main antagonists being EXRs that they still have their egos, albeit devoit of restraints.
Wow this show is really overhated. I mean seeing a 5/10 aggregate rating on a certain listing site is just repulsive considering the fact they're much worse anime out there. For me its a time passing show with fun moments. Idk if its the bath scenes that are bothering people (which strike witches does) or if they are upset with the story.
Idk but all I know is that these episodes have been cute and at times funny. I never took the problem seriously and I pretty much expected this type of anime. I guess its the people who lack the knowledge behind this anime (its "source") are the ones who are left disappointed.

Idk if its the bath scenes that are bothering people (which strike witches does) or if they are upset with the story.
Just for comparison, Strike Witches does its bath scenes only a few times per season. The Witches do lots of other things with their time. Ange Vierge gives us the impression that every moment these girls don't spend fighting, they spend bathing. They go from fights to baths, and leave the baths only to fight. It's a matter of proportion. Ange Vierge appears to be trying to win people over with fanservice by having the girls naked every moment when they aren't fighting, but it fails even there, because the censoring obscures anything even remotely fanservicey.
I'm watching this show because it's entertaining: nothing it does has offended me. That doesn't mean I'm blind to its faults (of which the above is only one). They just aren't interfering with my experience because a show with those things done well is not what I was expecting out of Ange Vierge in the first place.

That's the point. It's supposed to be a joke. Just like the two sisters doing silly stuff in the woods and so on. You're not supposed to overthink this stuff. You're supposed to smile at how silly it is.
That doesn't mean I'm blind to its faults.
It's not the shows' fault that you're taking the comedy too seriously.

It might help to think of the baka-siblings as little comedy vignettes that break up the main story.
The main story itself is serious enough, and I don't find it particularly hard to get into. That being said, the main story seems really predictable to me at this point, so maybe the comedy relief scenes are useful just to ensure the show doesn't feel stale.
I get your point on all the bathing, but meh, why shouldn't they bath a lot? I mean, these girls are basically full-time soldiers and don't appear to have any other responsibilities. So if they love the hot baths, then why not use them a lot when they're not in combat? It probably helps the animators cut corners some, and if that means better action scenes, so be it.

Almaria's become entranced with Saya. Silly mosquito, she offered you her blood so you all wouldn't die, not because she wanted to become your wife.
So... one at a time everyone's going to reveal that they were actually really close to Amane, but for whatever reason they don't think to speak up about how important she is to them until it's time to head to their world. Wouldn't want to have any backstory being revealed too early, after all. Any media executive knows that viewers don't have the attention span to remember anything you told them for longer than 30 seconds.
I'm not cynical, hush. :p
Ramiel is totally nucking futz. More so than the others we've focused on so far. Possession has definitely broken something in her brain. Self-loathing may be the biggest part of what drives her right now, but it's also amplified her distrust to the point of paranoia.
Was Saya able to detect Elel because she sensed the light from those wings? That's a much more effective way of using her light powers than she's had before. That curly whip-thing of hers is inefficient, though. Light is light: it travels at the speed of... well... light. When you've already got something that is effectively a hit-scan ranged attack why would you slow it down into something that people can dodge?
Also, does anyone take notice of the military/training segment? I know it's for comic relief but those girls are also corrupted.
Practically every post before yours made some comment about them, so it's pretty obvious that we're taking notice of them. But what are they trying to accomplish? If they were actually trying to acheive the ouroboros' plan, and just failing comically, that would be funny. But just standing around doing random fake military training that should have nothing to do with either their past or their present situations... sorry kids, but it just doesn't work for me.

I read in the series' website that Saya hasn't mastered her powers yet. It's clear she's slowly figuring things out though. I think she'll become crazy strong when she gets the hang of it.

Funny thing tho, in the mobage there are several cards depicting the character's many facets, as well as them "growing up".
Like Miumi, who starts with "low twintails" and changed to the hairstyle used in the anime (long hair+twintails).
Among those, the one with the most notable of changes is Ramiel:
She goes from this look

Ramiel's profile in the anime webpage does mention her having a complex about her wing of light and then this happens...well, it does give more depth to the character :heh:

Judging by the order, the White World should be next. Problem is, there doesn't seem to be much of a relationship between Stella and Carene.
I say this because in Carene's profile, it pretty much states that she cares deeply about her little sister, Xenia (and from what I've seen, Xenia doesn't appear to have been corrupted, just unconscious).

Learned a few things through this situation. Sometimes being honest to a fault is a good method. It's alright to argue with friends just make sure things are ok at the end of the day.

The dialogue maybe could use some more humor, but I find that the major one-to-one confrontations are exceptionally well-written.
Sometimes in anime I find these heavy-duty one-to-one discussions to be a little psychobabble-y or even pretentious, but here in Ange Vierge, I find that these discussions tend to hit all the right notes. So they emotionally resonate for me. In other words, I get where all the characters are coming from, and nothing feels excessive or forced or underwhelming to me.
Also, I really like how "the Dark Side" functions in this show. It actually is very similar to Star Wars' Dark Side. :heh: People fallen to the Dark Side throw inhibitions completely to the side, and totally embrace their greatest wants and desires no matter the costs or downsides.
You're right, though, that the show is very predictable. That's the main thing that holds it back some, but still, a very fun watch.

I wouldn't be so sure yet. Saya helped Stella understand Amane's feelings. It wouldn't surprise me if she starts regarding Saya as her second mommy (or daddy :heh:) next episode.
Or maybe even older sister :heh:

Episode 10...
Lol for a comic relief duo, those two corrupted girls actually did somewhat well against their enemies. Although...it was a surprise attack by them so I wouldn't really call it a fair fight. And plus, they got beat anyway in the end after Nya got "serious".
Nya is MVP this episode.
So one more girl to liberate from the darkness?

Episode 10 was lots of fun! Stella's "Auntie" joke was pretty funny and well-executed. They're hitting just the right tone of "awkward warmth" in how Saya is handling her new harem queen status.
It was great to see the comedy relief sisters finally have some plot relevance, and actually be highly amusing secondary villains. :heh: I'm glad they built up these sisters in those weekly comedy sections since it made their big moment in Episode 10 all the sweeter.
Episode 10 was easily the most surprising Ange Vierge episode since Episode 3. Things truly went down differently here than they did in either of the 3 previous arcs. It did result in Nya seeming kinda overpowered to me, but ah well, in a show this silly it was probably worth it for the surprise. :heh:
I like Benigmatica's speculation of Amane being secret last boss. I think that would be a good way to clue things up. Mikage is pretty cool, but it's hard to see her alone being enough to truly challenge our 5 main heroes, especially after the impression Nya gave me in this episode.

This series went from "That's so bad, I guess I'll drop it after ep2", over "It's really bad, but in a way that you can laugh about it" and "Scratch that, it's not bad, it's just straight up comedy" to "Damm that episode was pretty amazing".

Yeah, this episode definitely shows that Aoi is the most dangerous of the corrupted girls but not the "final threat" of the series. Plus, she and Hinata has that rivalry thing going on...

So the final showdown is Saya vs Hinata.
That's unexpected. Although, it makes a lot of sense because Saya's pretty close to Hinata so it makes for a more emotional fight than having Aoi as final boss.
On a side note, the harem scenes are pretty cute. Saya deserves it. She's more special than she thinks.

Well, looks like Aoi Mikage is freed from the Dark Side thanks to Miumi Hinata... but I'm disappointed now that she's the final boss! I'm expecting Amane Ayashiro to be the surprise boss character.
On the other hand, it's so strange that Ouroboros didn't act quickly on destroying all 5 worlds and instead letting Saya and the UC girls save them one by one, just to power up their secret weapon to destroy it all in one go. I mean, their existence is a mystery and there's no indication why it exists.

Excellent final episode. It had everything I was expecting and more.
I agree. Excellent finale.
The way they had to defeat the final boss was actually pretty clever and very fitting. I loved the way they portrayed the heart-to-heart between Saya and Amane in this episode. The dialogue for it was also great. The dialogue in general was very strong in this finale.
On the whole, a very neat and tidy and heartwarming finale. It even managed to make me a little misty-eyed a couple times. The one additional thing I might have liked to have seen is one last comedy bit between the two sisters, right after the ED. :heh: But no biggie, a highly satisfying finale to an almost criminally underrated anime show.
I would probably enjoy a 2nd season, but even if we don't get one, this was a very good complete story with multiple strong character arcs.

I admit, I didn't expect much at first, but it turned out to be one of the better anime this season.
It never was less than what it aimed to be, which wasn't much. But that's not a bad thing. It wasn't anything special, but it did a good job with what it wanted to do. Animation quality was stable, the story was stable (even if the formula was predictable), and it had a beginning and end. Generally fun to watch.
Oh, and the obsession of adding a bath scene every episode was pretty fun too. :heh:
Even in the last episode, where they didn't have time to add in a bath scene, the end card was... a BATH SCENE! :heh:
Oh, and I kinda liked the end. Had to rewatch it once to figure out, but she originally had no likes to her image, but now she has one?
I don't do social media, but I think that's the case.
But yeah, pretty good. 9/10

The other worlds are connected to the Blue World, but not with eachother.

Yeah, I forgot about that part but why Ouroboros wants to destroy all five worlds in the first place? Their invasion of Seiran Island and the abduction of characters doesn't make sense!
From the bits and pieces that I know of the main story, each world has a crystal, which is basically that world's source of power and lifeline.
It's implied that the crystals are sentient, and when a threat (to them and by extension, the world and its inhabitants) was detected, the crystals granted abilities to the characters in the series.
So, I assume that the Ouroboros are your typical "destroy all other lifeforms" type of enemy :heh:
As for the invasion of Seiran island, it's because that's where all the α drivers are. If you watch the first few episodes again, the characters realize that the Ouroboros' plan was to turn the tables by capturing the α drivers, corrupting their link to the Progress, having them fall to the dark side and destroy the world crystals...which would ultimately cause all five worlds to collide.

True, but it would be better if Ouroboros just overwhelm the Progress and α drivers instead of corrupting them.
Why they need to do the complicated thing is beyond me. Honestly, Ouroboros are supposed to act based on instinct. Unless they gained intelligence far greater than humans, someone controlling them from afar, or maybe the enemy represents something like either Kadokawa or Sega, it doesn't make freaking sense!
After all, it's an anime about promoting a trading card game.

From what I can understand, they don't seem to act on instinct. That plan they used is proof of it.
And I think the reason they used such a plan was because they couldn't beat the linked Progress in a head-on battle.
It might be possible if the Ouroboros outright overwhelm them with sheer numbers though...but it'd have to be a lot of them :uhoh:

Watched the last episode:
No complaints on the final episode. Saya has really matured. And the action is intense, I can feel the tension while Dr. Michael and the others are outside setting up the link to the progress - good thing she can fight too.
The one problem I had at the start of this series is too many characters got introduced in one episode. Well, but after going through 12 episodes.. I could pretty much remember the names of most of them. The ones I have a hard time remembering are the two small girls in the control room, because their names are mentioned only a few times. ><
Well, after being without an alpha driver for so long.. they finally got the link back, and they kicked butt. Too bad we did not get to see the super ouroboros hatch, Saya took it out in one hit. xD
And a few comment on previous episodes. I like that after her story arc was finished.. Stella smile lot more, showing more emotion instead of being just a mere android with a flat voice. :) Oh, and Remiel wins in my list for having the most disturbing character change when in dark side form, her voice sounds really like some obsessed psychopath - maybe having only one wing for an angel is similar to have only one leg for human? O.o
Giving this show an 8.5/10. Glad that I did not drop it after episode 1.

Still, Remiel is doing better in the anime than in the mobage (the game's story takes place roughly a year before the anime), where she has some self-confidence issues, often apologizing even though she didn't do anything wrong.

_____________
and lastly, can you explain about the mobile game? Curious about it. :)
Sure, no problem ;)
Going in the posted order:
Red-haired girl: Toujou Haruka
Cheerful and energetic, she's the main heroine of Chapter 1 of the mobile game and remains relevant throughout the story even after being demoted to side character. She briefly appears in the anime. Her ability is pretty straightforward: she's like a nerfed version of ToAru Index's Touma. She punches things and cancels the effects of abilities.
Brown-haired girl: Nitta Yumi
An underclassman who is infatuated and occasionally flirts with the protagonist (aka us). Refers to herself as "Nitta" and has the ability to summon small panda-like creatures to do her bidding.
Dark-haired girl: Shiina Azusa
Self-proclaimed True Student Council President, but actually president of the Revolution club. She's always thinking of ways to make school life at Seiran academy more enjoyable, and sometimes plots in taking over the student council... but that usually backfires :heh:
Additionally, she's voiced by Yuuki Aoi, which fits her impulsive personality.
White-haired girl: Schatii (don't know the romanization of her name, so I wrote it as I saw fit) :heh:
Treasurer of the "True Student Council", aka member of the Revolution club.
Has a rather deadpan personality and doesn't beat around the bush when she has something to say.
Schatii became this way because she was betrayed by her αDriver. Now, Azusa is one of the few residents of Blue World (aka Earth) that she truly trusts.
She's voiced by Chihara Minori, who also voiced Code Omega33 Carene in the anime.
Regarding Linkage... yes, it's kind of like a harem manga, but not entirely.
The only males (that I know of) featured in the manga are αDrivers, which are the protagonist and his friend. They're in the same classroom as Miumi and Sofina.
The protagonist is hotheaded and doesn't think things through (like a typical male protag :heh:) and his friend is calm, collected and plans ahead (like a typical rival :heh:)...but the protagonist often does something unexpected that throws a wrench into his plans.
Though that makes the manga sound pretty cliche, I'd say the main focus is the story. This manga was released when the Green World was added, so it's designed to flesh out the backstory of that world. Chronologically, it happens about a year prior to the anime, before Miumi became student council president.
As for the mobile game, known as Ange Vierge - Second Disciplinary Comittee Girls Battle- is where all the majority of the story is, using what the card game/manga/drama cds built for the setting and expands on it.
Although the franchise started as a trading card game, it didn't become popular like other well known card games. Also, here's a bit of trivia: the ranking system used in the anime is actually based on the rarity system used in the trading card game ;)
To be honest, the mobile game is like most digital card games you can find online. There's some degree of strategy to it as you can mix and match colors, and customize cards with certain abilities... but it's no Shadowverse :heh:
I was about to go into detail about the mobage, but the post might get long... So I'll do it in another post, and add some screeshots ;)

on the Linkage.. oh, I see. Given the info you said, even more glad now did not buy. Honestly... funds are spread very thin (there's a few more things I want from Love Live Superstar, and currently saving money for those). The baka sisters are good for comic relief, but they are not the kind of characters whose backstory I'd spend money on, what made it even more unappealing is they chose to have a harem style manga. I do understand that they are trying to reach out to a wider audience with this, some readers want to have a self insert guy, and that's fine too.

Yeah. The Revolution club are a fun bunch.
Here's the other members of the Revolution club:

Yuno Fortissimo
An elf, resident of the Black World. Yuno isn't really sure why she was appointed Vice-president of the Revolution club, but she tries her best to keep the club from getting in trouble...like when they plot to take over the student council :heh:
If you were to compare her to an animal, she's like a rabbit: shy and fidgety.
She likes peaceful days and is afraid of heights.
Also, she's the club's equivalent to Asahina Mikuru from Haruhi :heh:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
https://i.imgur.com/4I7gX5V.jpg

Azusa tricked Melt into joining the Revolution club and is in charge of General Affairs, thinking it's the most important role in it :heh:
She often rides on a robot panda that she can use as an powered armor, like Iron Man.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
https://i.imgur.com/hw28m9z.jpg
Ric Hercule
(romanized the name as I saw fit)
A cait sith fairy from the Green World that doesn't like the Grunewald United Army.
Ric is (probably) plotting to start a revolution in the Green World, but for now she's
with the Revolution club to learn more about revolutions :heh:

Tsuruya Yui
A resident of the Blue World (Earth) that has the ability to go invisible...except her clothes don't. :heh:
Yui is Azusa's childhood friend and gets dragged into whatever she does, which is how she ended up in the Revolution Club.

I think the anime could have went with a slice of life version involving Azusa, Rina, Melt, Ric, and Yui, and it would still be fun... similar to how Azur Lane had a slice of life version of their show.
ah, so she's a goddess, is that a higher rank than an angel? Well, she comes from another planet, so there's plenty of things to be curious about on Earth. :)
looking forward to see the screenshots.

Is the mobage still active? Sadly the card game was discontinued. I was interested in this franchise, but sadly no localization other than the anime.

Actually, they do. I forgot to mention but Schatii is from the Red World :heh:

Still active and last year has celebrated its 7th anniversary.
It gets new events and cards added often, and story updates every other month.

a little busy right now, but in a day or two, will also share some pics from the Symphonia Book 2014. The arts inside are different from the other art book. :)

Aurora and Remiel are the only two characters I know here.

I recognize most of the characters shown, but some don't show up often :heh:
However, some are pretty popular and there are several cards of them.
Remiel for example is often voted among the most popular characters, and storywise has gotten alot of character development.
Characters that I don't know of are the two on the side of the 2nd page, the girl with the violin on the 4th page and the girl with red ribbons on the 5th page.
Btw, the girl with the sword on the 3rd page is Miumi before she became student council president.
The blonde girl with the umbrella is Rosary, a cheerful witch from the black world that has the ability to create illusions, but she only likes to show pretty illusions.
hmm, looks like this is what a town in Red World looks like.
https://i.postimg.cc/MKvrwr3q/DSC04471.jpg (https://postimages.org/)
Yeah, the Red World is like a mix of rome and greece in ancient times, with gods, angels, giants, fairies, and other mystical creatures in it.
It's a shame the anime didn't do much with the other worlds other than what was shown. Each world has it's own characteristics and interesting stories to tell. :heh:
Even Seiran island where most of the story takes place, is much bigger than it appears. It's big enough to have its own city, suburbs, a shopping district, an amusement park, beach resort, camping villa and forests, and even a casino ship :heh:

Remiel has a disability, so that's a good starting point to build up a story. She's also a Yuuki Aoi. Pretty much, ouroboros infected Remiel is my favorite antagonist in the tv anime, followed closely by ouroboros infected Miumi.
Rosary.. so that's her name, she's cute with that umbrella. Would have liked to see her in the anime, but sadly they lacked the time / budget to put more characters in.
agreed, the Red World does look like ancient Greece / or Rome.
I think it's budget / pacing issue.. so we were treated to bath scenes every episode, instead of exploring the worlds or exploring more of Seiran island - anime could have been so much better if they included more world building instead of endless baths every episode. I know that it's important for girls to be clean, but we can always assume they take baths offscreen. :eyespin:
there's a few more pages from Symphonia book that I want to share. But there's plenty if irl issues right now that I have to deal with. Gonna share the pages after I sort out some irl stuff. :)

here's some more pics from the Symphonia 2014 book. It has a cards section.
would like to know who are these?

and here's a pic of the black world, it's also included in the book.

now, this makes me wish they explored the black world more, instead of having too many baths.

Hmm...the first three I don't know of, they're not in the mobile game. But I can at least read their names :heh:
In posted order, their names are:
Red World - Unicorn Maiden, Unicortia.
Blue World - Timid, Ikushima Toriko ...I think that's how you read her name :heh:
Black World - Mysterious Dollmaker, Julia
The other two however, I do know. They're both from the Blue world.
The first one is Kishibe Saori, she's Miumi's classmate and best friend. She doesn't like fighting, and her ability is to create a barrier to protect herself and others.
Saori appears next to Miumi for a few seconds in a promotion video from 8 years ago.
EgQ0NIE21-Q
She's fairly popular in the game too, and there several cards of her.
Second is Amai Ichigo (a pun meaning Sweet Strawberry), she's an upperclassman (aka senpai) who is a member of the Cooking Club, and doesn't like being treated like a child :heh:
As for the background image, yes, that's from the Black World...probably Cauldron Town, where most witches live.

the power to create a barrier. Saori's power is interesting, too bad she was not showed in the anime.
surprised that Amai is a senpai. She looks like a loli. :D
she's the kind of character that indeed tend to get treated like a kid.
I appreciate your description on the others.
oh, and thanks for that PV, have not seen it yet. Downloaded it. :)

I really like Konomi Suzuki's way of singing. :>

She's quite popular, and often sings opening themes of popular anime and games.
Speaking of Konomi Suzuki, she also has a few cards of herself ;)

and on another thing.. I thought everyone who had a card was in the game. Hmm, then I wonder where are those extra cards used? Or perhaps there is more than one game?

From what I found, no, there is no other game of Ange Vierge...So, I assume that the characters present in the mobile game are the most popular/quirky, and original characters.
At the moment, the game has a total of 308 character entries in the encyclopedia, or 210 if I exclude repeated entries and collab characters.
If I divide them by worlds, it becomes something like this:
Blue World: 69 total, 45 (no repeats and collab)
Black World: 65 total, 47 (no repeats and collab)
Red World: 67 total, 45 (no repeats and collab)
White World: 62 total, 44 (no repeats and collab)
Green World: 45 total, 29 (no repeats and collab)
Out of those characters, only a few of them have more than 5 different cards of themselves, and the most popular have around 10~20.
Again, dividing them by worlds, we have...
Blue World
Miumi 22 cards
Haruka 18 cards
Saori 15 cards
Saya 11 cards
Amane 10 cards
Black World
Sofina 22 cards
Rosary 19 cards (pretty impressive for a side character!)
Lieselitta 16 cards (she appeared briefly in the anime)
Almaria 14 cards
Yuno 13 cards
Red World
Remiel 18 cards
Ruby 18 cards
Aurora 16 cards
Mysis 15 cards (also impressive for a side character)
Elel 11 card
White World
CODEΩ00 Yufiria 19 cards
CODEΩ46 Xenia 15 cards
CODEΩ47 Toto 15 cards (also impressive for a side character)
CODEΩ33 Carene 13 cards
CODEΩ77 Stella 10 cards
Green World
Mayuka 21 cards
Eins 18 cards
Silt 18 cards
Lulunna 15 cards (also impressive for a side character)
Nya 12 cards
As you can see, the characters with the most cards have either existed since the TCG, or had featured often in stories, manga or the anime.
There are other characters that also have around 15 cards, and they too are either popular side characters, or had side stories/events dedicated to developing their personality, which creates a lot of cards.
Although there are a lot of characters in the game, most of them get little spotlight in stories, only appearing briefly if at all :heh:
EDIT: I have some unfortunate news...
The Ange Vierge mobile game will end service in December 20th. (https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2021-10-21/ange-vierge-girls-battle-game-ends-service-after-8-years/.178699)
I've been playing it since the anime aired, so some 5 years... it's sad to see it go.

To everyone's surprise, during the 8th anniversary stage, they announced a sequel game named "Ange Relink (https://gamebiz.jp/news/338718)", this one will be played with horizontal screen instead of the current game's vertical style, and the characters will be Live2D animated, and even revealed some illustrations and new character.
Looks promising :)
