OK, since no one mentioned it, here the cast list from the PV above:

Commenting about the cast, I could imagining Kana Hanazawa as Raphiel already ;). But I really didn't have any idea about the other. The one that I know is Vignette's VA has been voicing Eriri from Saekano before. But dunno, there's no way she will voicing the cute, gentle, and kind Vignette like how she voicing Eriri.

I could be wrong, but I think this is the first time we've ever seen the full name of the girl whose name gets translated as "Weine." Vignette? That seems notably different... Well, I suppose it does show up as Weinette in one or two places in the translation... German pronunciation?

It seems like French according to webster dictionary (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/vignette).

Episode 1

This was cute. We got Gabriel debuting and her fascination with games in this slice of life/fantasy series.

I've read the manga before and I think the series captures the comedy so far. Studio is by Doga Kobo so the animation style feels familiar. Satanichia's personality is amusing as well, how can anyone ignore her contagious laugh?! That lack of common sense though.

Regardless, I think the episode was funny. Hope they adapt as much as possible even if it's 1-cour. The theme song was also pretty catchy.

Good start. Aside from some anime-original setup in the beginning it was pretty much a direct adaptation. Everybody's cute.

Definitely another excellent example of how Doga Kobo really "gets" how to adapt this genre - they are remarkably consistent in their success in doing so!

So much so that it strongly reminded me of how the source material for this particular story is kinda "meh" and the humor is extremely average at best - at least for me.

Why? Not sure. But I do think that those who like the source manga will thoroughly enjoy the adaptation. ^^

Might give one more ep a try, though....

Episode 01

So we have a bad angel, a good demon, a try hard demon and a sadistic angel. Wtf is up with these angels first of all? And why was there a game opened in her laptop for no reason? She wasn't even playing that game before that. Was that even her laptop? Lol Gabriel teleported her panties by accident and then thought of blowing the trumpet to end the world. That was too much lol. Lol Satania threw in the bottle with the cap on. So evil. And pulling someone's chair out from behind them is so evil it can get you kicked out of hell itself. And Gabriel's room was dirty as hell to the point that she was sending the roach to heaven by killing it lol. The comedy was pretty spot on consistently here.

Doga Kobo have always been inconsistent when it comes to comedy in my view. Gekkan Shojo, New Game, Love Lab were hilarious but then there was Gj Bu, Mikakunin, Sansha Sanyo, Yuru Yuri (height of inconsistent comedy). This episode was pretty hilarious which is a good start. And then there's the cuteness Doga Kobo rocks at. I think I might end staying here.

for me this ep was totally hilarious i didn't expect the angel to become a neet like that :heh: i laughed a lot, bad anglels, good girls devils, teleporting panties.. i liked it all :)

and of course doga kobo super colorful art that i like so much.

As a Christian who spends much of his God-given time on anime and fanfiction, I can somewhat identify with Gabe. The initial part was both cringey and sympathetic, both for Gabe's disturbing original neatness and her fall from grace. The characters are rather fresh and amusing, but perhaps don't have the charm of classic SOL such as Kinimoza. Definitely giving this a watch anyway.

Calvinist 'Once saved, always saved' churches often view Christians who recant or fall into serious sin in Gabe's terms; they were never truly saved, but 'failen' hypocrites from the start. This can easily happen when someone serves God without joy, until they find something that seems more attractive; but a pillar of the Christian faith is that neither games, good works or anything else is so utterly satisfying as knowing and loving God. Whatever state we're in, God can save us from it.

I thought something felt similar in this anime, but then I realized, it was Sansha Sanyou. Such a similar atmosphere, even if there is a fantasy element added to it.
And I'm actually kinda surprised it was a bit more boring than I expected, but it was still okay, I guess. Weird girls acting like idiots, etc, etc.
In the first place, there is so little anime to watch on the broadcast day, there just isn't competition.

(I'm surprised people still use Yaraon. I thought he'd [assuming its not run by DMM as well] be arrested by now, but... *shrug*)

I remember reading the manga some time ago. I thought it was good but not great. I enjoyed the anime more than I expected to - I think it's been handled well so far. While it doesn't have much real depth, this looks like it should be some nice relaxing fun.

OK, so I'm going to guess this author's sending a message that the world is so messed up it'll turn angels bad and demons good... or he just thought failures like this are funny. They sure are though. Satania reminds me a bit of an extra on Asia from DxD: Asia was trying to become more demonic and she kept thinking of "evil" acts she could commit, like not picking up another person's eraser when they drop it (the idea of doing this makes her feel so horrible and cruel that she screams). Truly, what evil! Leaving the cap on the bottle when you carefully make sure to recycle it.

Yeah, all these characters have been done a million times over. But then again many characters have been done over and over and still bring the laughs. Just look at Dilbert or any number of other comic strips. The characters are the same and their personalities don't really change, but they still remain funny generations after their birth.

The panties help too. Both on and off. I've seen people teleport without their clothes, but I've never seen someone's clothes teleport without them. And all the boys offering their worship... good thing she at least keeps THOSE clean, bizarre as it is to see pristine, unblemished white panties in a room like that and on the butt of a girl like that. Just what sort of magic did she use to pull that off?

Lastly, even just this one episode makes me want to see a heavenly version of Shomin Sample: heaven realizes their angelic ladies are all being corrupted when they go to earth school, so they decide they need to teach the girls about and prepare them for the dangers of the human world... and they bring a human to their school to help teach them. That guy would face worse than castration if he screwed around.

I actually wondered the exact same thing. It really did seem like she'd been set up by somebody. She didn't know what that was on her laptop, so she probably didn't get on it herself, and I'm not sure an MMO will show you a random field where you can see and hear avatars talking when you haven't even logged on. And I'm pretty sure some people would complain if they had to start up at a random location surrounded by monsters. This most certainly feels like someone set her up to crash. Interestingly, a look at the namesake shows that Vine is supposed to be the craftiest demon of all, able to snatch you soul away before anyone has a chance to permit or forbid it... Could she have been the one to set her up? If so just desserts.

Lol Gabriel is complaining that there are too many humans here. It's the human world. What did you expect? Poora Satania eats her lunch alone. I tend to feel sorry for loner characters like her, but this all her fault. I mean, who would want to be with a girl who thinks everyone is a lesser being and acts like the most evil thing out there? Lol Gabriel was tricking Satania by having her put in a whole lot of spice in her udon. The plan backfired big time because Satania has got broken taste buds. Lol the cooking class. Satania brought a fish straight out of hell. "Prepare to meet your maker, fish" lol. You fighting the fish or something? Satania is the best character here lol. Lol when Vignette and Gabriel were talking about the survey form. Preferences of single males lol. Important stuff. And Gabriel wanted to blow the trumpet to end the world lol. Raphiel is one hell of a sadist lol. She became Satania's apprentice but didn't want to do anything lol. Some apprentice she is. Loving the comedy here.

The episode is overall glorious, but my favorite skit is definitely the casual convo between Vigne and Gabby while the class rep is listening in on them. Spot on tsukkomi humor right there and very relatable as well, though in an ironic way. (Please don't kill off us single males!) lol

that segment was pure gold i laughed my ass off of it :heh: gab-chan, pleason go easy on us :upset:

for now raphiel is my least favorite character, she was pretty weak trolling this week, i didn't feel she gave it her all.

Most amusing. Tho why is heaven concerned about single male eating habits? Maybe they need to record everything about the universe...through angelic surveys?

Interesting that Gab caught those plates, maybe foreshadowing that she can do some good yet.

Vignette's efforts to stop Gabriel 'failing' too far' so that she isn't summoned back to heaven, remind me of the Screwtape Letters. If demons tempt people into shocking sins, they'll despair of themselves, turn to God and repent, and get saved. Alternatively, if demons tempt people only so far as respectable evil, while keeping their thoughts away from God, that person is on the road to hell.

The animation is nice, the voice acting is nice... but something about the direction isn't quite working for me. It's not really bringing the comedy to life enough.

Probably best example would be the skit with Raphiel sneaking into Satanya's bed. It just jumped straight to it rather than setting up some suspense/tension first.

Yeah, I can see why this "instant comedy" doesn't work for some people who prefer a more well thought out setup. It works pretty well for me, personally, because the way the scenes are directed have a lot of tsukkomi value and I find that genuinely enjoyable. Basically they present situations that kinda catch you off guard and make you immediately question them.

This entire series seems to be about showing the dark side of Angels and the light side of Demons, LOL.

Lost it at the Holy Light. God damn light coming out of nowhere to ruin things. Lol Gabriel when Vignette put that lotion on her back. Lol when Raphiel's plan failed big time when Satania ate the ultra spicy cream puff and said it was good. Satania's taste buds don't function like the rest of the world's. If Gabriel sets her hair slightly from the front then her cuteness would increase exponentially in ponytail form. Too bad she's got no time for that.

You could tell the coffee guy would be a comic butt right away, he was too earnest. Patience of a saint. I liked that scene, nice change of pace. Vignette is too cute, must remember she's a demon...seriously if a demon set out to tempt otaku, they'd probably look like Elsie from Kaminomi, or Vignette.

Coffee shop guy took a strangely long time to work out that Gab wasn't Japanese. Does she look like a blond Japanese girl, or are anime characters a race unto themselves?

Well it didn't take them long to get to the beach episode. I loved the little rivalry between Gabriel and Satania on the beach, haha. Not to mention, it was nice to hear a little bit storytelling of how Vignette met Gabriel. (and Satania's aftermath reaction!)

satania reaction at past gabriel would totally have been ours if we didnt get those first 5 min of episode 1 and get to know gabriel already in her sloppy form.

too bad they didnt show theirs reactions when they fond they are devil and angel... no like that seem to matter in their world anyway :heh:

Watched 1-4:

1: Had to burst out laughing at Satania not doing her homework on purpose. And telling it to the teacher. :heh:

2: still had laughs but not much.

3: had me laughing almost non-stop. I pity the caffee shop owner. Good thing Vignette was there to save his self confidence. On a slightly serious thought... Vignette did say in an episode (not this one) that she does not make people disappear anymore.. so it means she did those thing before.. what could have made her stop doing evil? :confused:

4: Beach episode and Gabriel getting tortured by mosquitoes. Raph having some "connections" with heaven saved the day. XD

Seeing what happened after Satanya got shot, laughed in the class more than five minutes and the Class President still wants to bear Satanya's hospitality during art class.

The scene obviously familiar from what I already saw in Yugioh Arc-V.

Raphi might want to consider investing in sports bras. Leaving aside the fact that this poor one was overstressed due to recent growth, ordinary bras are probably going to be in danger of taking damage during athletic stuff anyway, and she is apparently a fairly athletic person.

Well, some extras are getting scenes. Looking back through the episodes now. Tanaka has been in the background a bunch in various classroom shots, but I haven't spotted Ueno yet (EDIT: Ah, spotted her in the art class in episode 6, paired up with Tanaka). I think I know where she sits, though, looking at that blurred-out view Gab has of the rest of the class. In fact, if you draw a diagonal line from Gab to Satania and then just keep extending it that direction it will pass through Tanaka and (I believe) hit Ueno. They're all pretty much lined up diagonally. Those two are really fun: that whole cooking club segment was enjoyable.

Ah, the frog scene! I was really hoping this one would show up, because it's Satania's chance to get a little of her own back at Raphi. Although the way they played out Satania's paranoia leading up to it was pretty funny too. Raphi's final shriek was great.

This was one of my favorite episodes so far, especially after the previous one that wasn't very good. I like how the side characters get some screen time and i though they were great in wanting to persuade Gab in joining their cooking club. I think they knew she was just there for the food, but still didn't care about that and just wanted her to be welcomed.

The Raphi segments was also really good because i love the sadistic girl and we get to learn about her weakness in the end. Raphi's screech in the end was the highlite.

The argument about celebrating or not celebrating not only amused me, it reminded me of something I read a few years ago. It was an adult manga about a guy and a demon, and when Christmas came around he was worried that she'd be in a bad mood or not want to celebrate. Then she comes in looking incredibly happy and starts to go on about how awesome it is to see a day designated to celebrate Christ's birth transformed into a day of partying and getting it on with one's boyfriend/girlfriend (I recall another series said that around 9 PM on Christmas Eve is the most sexually active time in the whole year for Japan). Yeah, I'd think a demon would actually celebrate a lot to see a day of worship and charity turned into what it is now for many people, especially in nations like Japan where Christianity is an exceptional minority.

Also interesting to see Satania's family side with her parents. Same with Vignette. Looks like Vignette's pet grew up to be quite big LOL.

I thought this episode felt different than some of the others being that it explored the family relationships of the main characters. Still entertaining though :D

of my god, that was such a good episode. I wasn't expecting to get a peek at all of the girls' families and homes. Vigne and Satania's families really reflect who the girls are respectively; it doesn't seem like both families do anything that's fitting of the title. Raphi's relationship with Martial is hilarious as well.

Still had some fun in this episode.. Gab funny faces are... well, funny. And the horseback ride must have been torture. :D:... at least it still shows that Gab is still a kind older sister despite being corrupted into a game addict.

The voice of Vigenette's pet monster sounds to me like fat Majin Buu. :heh:
Satania's pet uses "Play Dead" ... it's super effective.

OH.MY.GOD! Satania is such a good girl. Somebody is really messing up the angel/devil selection process. I did not expect the first half of the episode to be so damn sweet. Also no Satania bullying. For once, nobody made fun of her and everyone tried to help. Well done, Gab.

This is also the first time I can remember seeing Gabi do something angelic. But yea Satania keeps steeling the show for me lately.

Short runs are alright for comedy SoL series, or the jokes get stale. They could make a decent drama out of the consequences when heaven and hell discover how off track the girls have got.

Was also a bit worried by Tapris getting involved with internet, and possibly ruined as an angel by netgaming...But it seems only Gab can fall that hard.

I definitely understand what you mean about it being "fluff", especially since this series is quite episodic. Though, in my opinion, the show gives off the impression that it is satirical when it is being dumb. Seems like that's why I must be enjoying it so much; I think it's being clever. Eh, not sure; it could just be the characters and the relaxing feeling of the anime is causing me to "turn my brain off.", as they say. :confused:

That's more than likely true. I seem to not be bothered by it that much; probably because I think the personalities interplaying is funny. I also love Satania and Vignette as characters.

I suppose Yes Minister and The Thick of It are straight satires of UK politics. The Asterix comics (esp. Obelix and co.) or Guliver's Travels put modern rules or ways of thinking in a historical setting, though it often all ends absurdly. I think satire relying on exaggeration for humour is parody.

For anime, Kino's Journey rather exaggerates the ideas it satirises, but it logically works out the implications of its premises; it's a really amazing show. Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei is listed as satire, but I haven't seen it.

Gab's sister being afraid of dogs was rather a cop out. They seemed to be setting things up so sis would stay with Gab and either discover the joys of computer games herself, or accept that she SHOULDN'T force Gab to do the right thing. But with only one ep left, they had to give her an improbable weakness, and sacrifice any developed ending. Still, ep 12 had a lot of humour, with Gab's 'friends' pose (with Satania under her foot), the constant reactions of her friends to her lines, and her friends suddenly popping up all over Gab's room. I suppose even if the comedy wasn't always the best, the show focused on comedy to the end.

For how much fun this series was, it seems a bit under-viewed. Only ~70,000 people have it added on MAL (whether it be completed/dropped/on hold).
Not sure if that's a bad sign or not. All I know is I would love an OVA/S2 as well. :)

A second season is not known, but there are two OVAS. The first is already available, dealing with the classic onsen visit in the ways that only angels and demons can experience one, while the second is coming May 24. Hope that helps.

Well I think the finale was funny overall.

Gab's sister gave a scary aura at first but the way that she got so scared of that dog was hilarious. Satania got made fun of again even in the finale. I think the show really subverted her role as a "devil" as she is usually the one that gets pranked or lands in misfortunes.

Overall, funny show.

Satania saying "I will humiliate you in front of your sister"to Gab. We know what that would lead to. :heh: - and Raphi was expecting it because she had the Christmas rope. :D

I somehow like it when da tenshi Gab uses her "good" angel appearance in meido uniform to try to fool her sister. Also did not expect her to use a surprise attack spit.. too bad it didn't work and she received the pain. :heh:

I would say more that they are both extreme hedonists. Raphi with her sadism and Gab with her net games. The main difference between them is that Raphi has to interact with people for her pleasure so she comes across as more functional.

The different mental illnesses/personalities is another reason why I find this show to be satirical/of a parody. As I've been told before, I may be wrong, but I still feel this way. How do you feel?

I think that they were going for a satirical good/evil switch to hang the comedy on. However going against expectation with "bad" angels and "good" demons has been done before by different anime as had most of the rest of their gags.

I enjoyed the show but it was very slight, unfortunately. If they had gone bigger with the angels' personalities they might have done better with disc sales.

Er, that's not good. Just how poor were the disc sales? I'm not familiar.
I did enjoy it as well, and that was my qualm too, funnily enough. Had they expanded more on the satire and the personalities, it would have been wonderful.

As for this being done before in other anime, I had no idea. This must be why I thought the show was brilliant. LOL The gags were new to me as well.. welp, I guess it's not my fault though. I was never straight-up told to go watch the other ones instead, so GabDrop was my first time.

Just finished watching the last episode. The Vigne parts were easily the funniest to me, well basically just the part when she was lying for Gabriel to her sister. After 11 episodes of getting to know the characters, you knew how much pain she was in doing it, and even then, it was her going through the flashbacks that cracked me up. I also got a kick of Gab sniping the demon host of the paid programming network from outside the TV and Satania's reaction. Overall, the series was what it was meant to be. My only criticism is the characters are defined by their quirks, leading to the gags becoming stale over time from overuse. Still, it was a nice show to watch weekly.
