This season already started in the perfect way with that Saiki reference at the beggining of the episode..lol. Two of my favorite comedy anime of all time. Thank you for that :)
I missed this show so much. The jokes, the crazyness and of course the continuation of that amazing last arc by giving already some insight about Utsuro and his past.

I think we should rename this to Gintama Dot..:p
The OP is effectively confirming that this season/run of Gintama will take it all the way to the very end.

The Rakoyu arc. Brilliant start. I always melts when hearing Hirano Aya. :D
Any confirmation to the length of the current series yet? Even one cour may not be enough for this arc. It's very long.
What's that Gilgamesh reference at the beginning?

I think it's Sugita's ad-libbing as usual.
Loved the Saiki reference in the beginning.
I really wish to see arcs that are skipped.Maybe they'll adapt it in an OAD format but I can't see it happening on TV for the time being as they're stuck in the final arcs.
I guess this isn't going to be a very long season if it's only about this arc. Such a shame for all the hilarious chapters that were skipped.

Any confirmation to the length of the current series yet? Even one cour may not be enough for this arc. It's very long. The last season also had arc subtitles, so they might just change the Rakuyo subtitle after this arc finishes. Otherwise, if they want to wait until the manga ends before adapting the rest, this arc has just enough material for one cour (around 44 chapters).

Wow, didn't even know the new season was going to premier today, last time we had tons of advertisements but either no one bothered posting them or for some reason this time lack of advertisements which would be weird considering how well the ratings were the last arc.
Loved the episode, I read this part in the manga and forgot about the plot twist, still not sure how I feel about it, but got used to the idea. Loved the beginning the best, poor Gintoki last arc left a scar on him :(
Weird seeing Katsura in this type of arc, normally he's absent LOL.
Ouch, this arc is going to be a pain for Gintoki.
Fun episode, felt a little fast for me for some reason.

I'm also sad cuz I just found out this new season will only have 13 episodes again, I don't get it either, each season has good ratings as far as I know and good reviews, why such a small amount of episode orders? Oh well.
I enjoyed the episode, good amount of emotion mixed with humor and action and Animation good quality.

Should I watch the previous season before watching this? Given what type of anime Gintama used to be I'd say no but seemingly they've gone into this trend now of just long arcs after another with serious plots and what have you. Hence why the only season I ever watched was the original and all of it too ..

The live-action stuff looks really well-prepared. Almost like seeing 2D jumping to 3D.
And in the anime, Zura's line was so epic, it had to be said twice. I presume one was before CM and the other after CM. :heh:
P.S: Saw the manga and oh yeah, they covered that line twice in two consecutive chapters. Nice to see that replicated in the anime.
Zura's fight lived up to the hype. Brutal and manly stuff. We got some backstory on him too, and it was great. Who would have thought his nickname carried such weight?

Ugh..I guess I have to say it...Been feeling it for quite sometime, but I didn't want to admit it to myself...
I miss the previous format of Gintama T_T...I thought I was gonna love when they got to this hardcore part and we got to see Gintoki fight his eyepatch homie then his "master"...I can't put my finger on it because its still pretty cool, but I don't know...
Something is missing...Maybe the comedy is less organic or the shifts between when its supposed to be serious and not-serious...but for a while I've felt like something has been off, unlike the earlier seasons when tragedy and comedy flowed so effortlessly (Could it just be the setting?)...
EDIT:
LMAO, I wrote this before watching the latest episode...Man did that ending speak to my post...Gintoki literally said "You're messing with peoples' heads because (the series) is getting too serious..." And that's what it feels like, how they tacked on that hilarious ending xD...

Umibozu's past sure was interesting. I love how Sorachi can mix serious and silly moments so naturally. All these jokes about boners, then Umibozu goes and says something like "calm down. I've already sprayed my seeds, my best ones in fact *cut to Kagura and Kamui*."

I loved Pride Kakumei, so this is great news. On the other hand, this pretty much confirms that this is the last season of Gintama. Mixed feelings, since this means the manga will most likely be ending before June. Will the Gorilla be able to wrap everything up nicely in time? I hope he isn't forced to rush the manga's ending to match the anime's schedule...

I dun still get how will they animate the next arc, especially since they are still in the middle of it, and probably can last for another 50-100 chapters at the current pace.
My best guess is they will probably find a stopping point in the next arc, and give Gorilla more time to finish.
P.S: Manga is currently on a break after latest manga chapter, and that adds up too.
In Kekkai Sensen, Kugimiya Rie voiced 2 characters who were siblings, one male and one female.
Here, Kugimiya is the voice for both Kagura and her mother, so all conversation between the two are done by just one person.
I don't know how payment for seiyuu works, so does this mean it's more work for Kugimiya? Or does she get paid separately for both characters?
Either way, it would seem that she's the only seiyuu that has done this in recent series, not including minor characters or cameos that appear only briefly in a particular series.

Damn, so next season will be the last one? I'm not ready for Gintama to end.
Can anyone please tell me which episode Utsuro lost his arm?
That was a great season, and a perfect adaptation of that arc. Instead of reruns, I wish they had adapted all the chapters they skipped. It's a shame they decided to focus on the story driven arc last season, but I suppose the anime wasn't popular enough for them to continue to go through the whole material. At least we'll get the main story in full, and I'm grateful for that. That's more than you can say for most manga.
I'm glad they adapted this arc. I was actually afraid that they wouldn't.
But this is proof that they'll no doubt adapt the Silver Soul arc and that's all I can ask.
Also, hello fellow Gintama fans! [We're so rare where I come from. It makes me weep tears of joy to see people who love this anime/manga as much as I do.]
Hello and welcome! There is a thread in the manga section too if you're reading it.

I have the exact same opinion. Too many episodes with serious business feels weird in this series. Granted, it's an amazing battle-shonen story with fantastic characters but i noticed i prefer the small arc format to explore the main plot with everything else being just the usual gintama troll mode..lol. But i understand it would be complicated doing such transitions at this point.

Haven't watched the finale yet but I thought the last 3 episodes did a better job...But to me, even with my gripe, the storytelling of Kagura's dad, bro, and mom was so damn good I can forgive the overall lack of comedy...
I am a shonen fighter head through and through...I've honestly watched probably 95% of the genre and very rarely have I seen an anime handle a storyline like that (with so much exposition on the mom, etc.) and do so effortlessly...The skips between the present fight and the flashbacks were done so well...Creating and building the tension while you watched the fight in REAL TIME...
Other than certain eps of HxH...It's been a while since I've seen that much good exposition in a 20 minute chunk that STILL had great action....
Imagine...Imagine IF THE FINAL FIGHTS IN NARUTO COULD HAVE DONE THIS...iNSTEAD OF BEING A BORING MISHMASH CLUTTERED WITH HORRIBLE FLASHBACKS (sorry my caps button stuck, not retyping that lol)...Gintama, a show that mocks the shonen fighter genre--amazing it could be so much better in the execution of its final fight than what's supposed to be the gold standard of the genre...
Maybe the finale can beat it, but my favorite scene so far is Gintama calling out Kagura's bro...Breaking him down verbally...Telling him "strongest" isn't a title he should worry about (when that's the key to his soul)...before hitting him with the baka-aniki...I rewind like 100 times that whole scene...
Good stuff...

Now that you mention the real Katsura was already married with Ikumatsu during the Bakumatsu. I didn't expect it to be this soon. The manga will probably end around the time the new season starts. I'm going to miss it so much.

So the next and last arc is in january, it going to be over soon... so sad, but I hope gorilla will give us a new serie we can enjoy like this one in the future.
I read this 'Gintama will end in X time' from Sorachi before. So I would bet it will take twice as long (at least) as what he claims to finish the manga.

Gintoki being the Producer is the best thing in this episode.
Put in Gintoki in the Idolmaster series and see what happens.
Even Shinpachi as the Tsu's number one fan cannot put up with this situation anymore.
Gintoki is such a shady producer. And Kagura such a scary idol.
The part where Gintoki explained handshaking events eventually come down to dicks touching other dicks was hilarious. And probably true.

I loved this show very much and will miss it. However, I'm really looking forward to see it too :D
I thought the arc would end in this ep. That means the Guardian spirits arc will only last one episode? I can't remember how long it was in the manga. Just that it was incredibly funny.

When I think about the characters connected to Tsu, I wonder why Bansai has not made any appearance in the Otsu arcs since he was beaten by Gintoki in Shinsengumi Rebellion arc?
And Shinpachi still does not know the fact with Bansai's acquaintance to Tsu and her Idol Agencies.
This most current Otsu arc kind of involved Amanto Idols from outer space that are targeting earth's Idols, and Bansai should be aware of the situation and might have done something for Otsu at least.
Also I did not overlook the fact that some of Katsura's Joi groups are also the members of Otsu's Fanclub led by Shinpachi, or at least one of them just quit Otsu's Fanclub and joined a different Fanclub.
Shinpachi at least should have realized this ridiculous fact.
No, I mean why Shinsengumi still does not know this?
See episode 64, they were actually discussing these topics about Tsu's scandal while being recorded by a Cameraman.
Actually, what is most insane is that Katsura himself just joined into that topic.

This episode really feels like it wasn't in the manga. I mean Gintoki's first lines were recycles of the Tamaquest arc when talking about video games. Also, Shinpachi almost yelled all of his lines which was too much (even for him).

This episode really feels like it wasn't in the manga.
The mere fact that they were talking about the game that was announced a few months ago and that will be released next month kinda gives it away, don't you think? :heh:

I know but my point was just that it wasn't as funny as previous episodes based on the humor they tried. Sorachi can even add comedy to serious arcs.
It was in the manga, actually. They just replaced the game (I think the manga chapter was about the 3DS game or something) with the newest one. This was actually the episode of the season that made me laugh the most. Gintama has done so many Dragon Quest parodies, but they never stop being funny to me.
And the guardian spirits arc is as hilarious as I remember it to be.

And so Porori-hen ended and with it all the comedic mini arcs, and now we finally enter the final stage of the story; the Silver Soul arc where all will end, this genuinely such a bittersweet feeling but all good things must come to an end, all I can hope for is for Sunrise to put their A game and make the anime go out with a bang.

Wasn't Bandai Namco Pictures making the series now?
Odd that they changed Alchu's color after last week, but yellow is definitely more appropriate. The new guardian spirits shown in this ep were all hilarious, with backstories that tied into the characters' quirks.
Hard to believe we're entering the final arc in just two weeks after all these years. I'm sure the staff never dreamed Gintama would survive this long. All these times they joked about the series ending, and now it will happen for real next year.

When you say episode 2, do you mean this week's episode or episode 2 of the first season? In case you don't know, the arc airing right now is the final arc of Gintama, which features tons of references to previous arcs (and is a direct sequel to the previous serious arcs) and returning characters. So it's a very bad idea to start there.

The name of Shinpachi's father hasn't been mentioned in like 340 episodes so it's no wonder you don't remember.
The live action movie talk got a good laugh out of me. Serious business is starting now, however, as both Utsuro and Ensho are making their move. The reveal that the Tendoshu have already been found by the liberation army and this whole war is based on a lie was a good one.

I don't understand why this thread isn't being talked in a lot this season, War arcs are always popular in Anime yet only a few people on here keep talking about it? Awe well.
I love love this series, I can't tell if I'm laughing or sad the next, Gintoki is going through such a hard time right now, he almost thought it'd be ok to die the last episode, everyone was so surprised hearing that, too bad Tae wasn't there to hear it would have opened her eyes a lot about him but she's been in so many emotional arcs with him I supposed.
Poor Hijikata, he really has been spoiled since working with Shinsengumi hasn't he? If it's not him crying about loosing a ship in a fight it's about not getting paid the next for this LOL Welcome to Gintoki's world, he does this kind of work all the time and pretty much doesn't ask for money in return, well when it comes to somethings.
All I'm waiting for now is a certain blond to join the feild and Katsura to ditch the ship and join earth's battle along with the others. We can't have a final fighting to save the world without him.
I hate waiting weeks for new episodes, this is going to be killer. It will be worse, unlike One Piece it's the final arc of Gintama unless Gorillia is trolling which for once I'd love : (

Don't worry about the pacing. The anime studio is grabbing multiple chapters at the same time and in the manga the war already ended so I'm pretty sure the pacing will be good.
Gintoki got his resolve back thanks to all those idiots. Tama's resolve to sacrifice herself to protect the humans was moving. Kintoki has slightly different reasons to do the same, and they were pretty cool.

And Umibozu joins the fray, we pretty much have all of the main players here
NobuNobu couldn't keep his promise to Soyo, but his death wasn't in vain. He's come a really long way since the first time he appeared in the series. The man who used to see his people as mere tools meant to serve him died protecting them.
The second half had some good comedy. "Why did he have to remember a premise the viewers had forgotten ages ago?"

Well, without spoiling, after this arc, there is another one. However, it appears to be shorter since Shueisha said the manga is ending in about 5 weeks. The length of this anime's season was confirmed though?

??? I asked about the number of manga chapters left to be adapted.

30 something plus chapters, no more than 40 for sure

Is that including the last 5 chapters? And what chapter do you think this cour is gonna stop at?

I don't remember now but I think these two next episodes might be the end of the arc. Maybe they'll pull an alternative comedy episode before ending the season.
Be sure to watch until the very end this week. I didn't think the anime would reach this point so soon, but the fight against Utsuro just seemed much faster than in the manga where it felt like it lasted ages. They can't possibly finish this arc with the remaining number of episodes, but I have a good idea what the end of the season will be. Unless that comes sooner than I think as well.

Guess its safe to assume the anime will have another cour, and the anime may as well conclude this year in December
Specially with the manga only having 4 chapters leftThey might as well just adapt everything in one go. My question is if we would get another OP & ED songs for the final cour, or stick with same songs but different visuals.
Well now onto Gintama: Final Fantasy!!

I can see them adapting the epilogue as a movie than another cour. They're not that long and they can make "this time, it's really the final movie, guys!" joke. :heh:
So either the next few episodes will cover the entire timeskip arc, including the ending, or it will end at some point and we'll get the continuation through some special or OAVs.
Covering the next arc with the few episodes remaining is impossible. And I certainly wouldn't want to see them try, considering all the comedy gold moments they would have to cut.
I think a movie is pretty likely as well. Assuming the manga does end this time :heh:

Man, I forgot about that Genkidama the cast put but the fact that Utsuro/Shoyo gave up rather than keep slashing felt like a good way to end the battle since it felt more significant to his character.
The manga will end during mid September. Wonder if the anime will finish nearly at the same time ala Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.

Why not? IIRC, the Be Forever Yorozuya movie did very well. It's not like they have to choose between one and the other. They can still make live action movies and an animated one.

This certainly a milking I wouldn’t mind, even if quite unlikely it would be awesome if they get to adapt up to the Shogun Assassination and Farewell Shinsengumi arcs in live action. Again I know that is quite unlikely but everything is possible if they keep making money

I don't know if it's just me, but the ending to Utsuro feels unsatisfied to me. The climax kinda seems off. I though that Gintoki gonna finish his duel with Takasugi first, before fighting with Utsuro. But it maybe just me. And it still doesn't explain about what Shoyou/Utsuro said that a monster cannot defeat monster, so you have to be a human to defeat a monster. Anyone care to clarify it to me?

This is just my point of view but Shoyo's hummanity surpassed Utsuro upon seeing his student to risk his life to defeat him. The fact that in the end Utsuro gave up might imply the human, Shoyo, won.
Shouyo, unlike Utsuro, loved humans and held them in high regards. He believed they had the potential to surpass him. That's why he told Gintoki the blade of a monster couldn't defeat him, only that of a human.
There's also what was said in the Shinigami/Asaemon arc, about humans being the only ones able to save the souls of people who turned into demons.

But didn't Utsuro sacrifice himself so that no one is able to save Shoyou. In a way, Utsuro kinda won.

I understand what you are saying, but it is still not good enough of a reason for me. Maybe I was expecting more. Speaking of Asaemon, where is she and Sachi? Aren't two of them supposed to be back too?
The least we can say is that this episode was full of surprises :heh:

The way the handled the opening was pretty considering the final transition. Shinpachi took the comic relief upgrade rather than the movie badass version. They are already catching up with the chapters from February from this year. Guess the anime will adapt the manga finale at this pace.
They should have gotten another voice actor for Mobcop, at least until his identity was revealed. They modified the voice a bit but it was easy to tell who it was, so that ruined the twist. In the manga it was a complete surprise.
I don't know how many chapters they covered in this ep but it feels really fast paced since the timeskip.

So Kagura barfed out a clone because she ate too much?... Well, this is Gintama so of course that happened.:heh:
Now Shinpachi has two lolis, at this point he is like a pokemon trainer that has a team of legendaries.:heh:
I don't know how many chapters they covered in this ep but it feels really fast paced since the timeskip. This episode covered 3 chapters (672-674) and AT-X confirmed that the anime will end at episode 367.
(https://twitter.com/LiveChart_me/status/1039112050016833536) So either the anime will be adapting 6 chapters per episodes from this point on, or have an anime original ending, or there's going to be a special or movie to end the anime at a later date.
No way they're planning an anime original ending. Not after 367 episodes and the end of the manga being so close. I can't imagine them rushing this much either. Movie is still the most likely option IMO.
They trying to end the anime the same week as the manga or something? damn

Next week's Jump (well, actually this week) is the last issue of Gintama in Jump. The anime probably going to ends it with this week's chapter.
But it looks like we're going to get that movie or another season for epilogue, after all. :heh:

Wait what chapter are we currently on now? I know that this season is going to be 14 episodes. How many chapters are they putting in an episode?

The anime won't end with this chapter. They'd have to skip too much content to reach that point.

Man Shinpachi being used as a weapon. Poor guy.
Then again, didn't Gin once go to the beach in an early episode?

There was indeed one episode where they went to the beach, but I don't think we saw him swimming. Gintoki being unable to swim was already shown in the Shinigami/Asaemon arc.
Shinpachi just can't catch a break. He's been treated like trash non-stop since the timeskip.

2018-09-16, 22:08
Didn't Gintoki use a swimming float in the beach episode?
Shinpachi has been really working hard. Being able to take on a non serious Okita and being able to disarm both Okita and Kagura's weapon.
That was a heavy episode. The mood was totally killed by Katsura near the end though :heh:
Gintoki is back to Edo. He has no idea what awaits him.

This episode is full of plot. I can't wait for Gintoki to meet his old friends. And fuck tendoshu for starting the cycle once again. Can't wait for Gintoki and Takasugi to join forces. Maybe Katsura will join them too.
This episode was pure madness :heh:
The preview teased there will be an announcement next week. Hoping for good news.

That's probably the most dangerous situation he's ever been in. The caption at the end of that chapter (ended exactly at the same spot) was "next week, Gintoki dies?!"
And I agree with that girl ranking.

The first half of the episode was fun as heck. The second half... When your characters are explaining the multiple flaws of the story and episodes, it feels that Gintama really has a lot flaws and they are trying to make of themselves just to avoid negative responses. It's fun but also annoying like whenever Bleach's cast broke the fourth wall just to indicate they were catching up with the manga and make fillers. Still, no sign about the manga's final chapters?
I kind of figured they would end it with Gintoki meeting Shinpachi. There was no better spot, really. I didn't see the trial coming even though it was classic Gintama :heh:
Long story short: it's all the Gorilla's fault. He already admitted to screwing up in Jump, but if everything they said is true, it's even worse than we thought. I'm surprised there was no announcement, but then again, how could they make one when they have no idea when Sorachi will really end the manga?
Chosen_Hero
2018-10-08, 00:55
So basically we have to wait for the gorilla to write more chapters and for the studio to get more money to have another season? Or is it truly over? Either way, this is the most Gintama thing this show has ever done.:heh:

Kinda disappointed on this week episode. The first half was good but the second half bugs me. Gintoki talking to the others on the second half kills the mood. I want him to meet them fast. Looks like I gotta read the manga to kill my urge.
