One of the light novel series I want to see fan translated online in English. But, this series, from what I can heard about, is a romantic comedy version of "Oregairu" (minus the drama).

Life is a shit "game", there are no simple rules that one can follow to "beat" it. High customizability is a high spec character's privilege. For weak characters, there are only unfairness and overwhelming disadvantages.

Therefore, the game of life is shit.
Coming from an avid and top class gamer like me, this conclusion is irrefutable.

Volume 4 comes out June. Was expecting it to be May to be honest, but at least this doesn't seem like it will be delayed unlike another popular GaGaGa title. A Taiwan publisher picked up this title, maybe we can hope for a translation from Chinese if not from the source?

How far have you read? He stopped being a dunkass pretty quickly. Hinami's a great teacher and Tomozaki is actually a fairly positive dude. I would say after 100 pages in volume 1 he starts trying already (which is start of chapter 2).

So yeah, was good, far better than I thought it would be. Main reason being Tomozaki's character growth, which is really satisfying to read.

Also, love Kikuchi-san, and that's why I love-hate volume 3. Love her character design too, and I'm so mad I didn't bring my graphic tablet with me to colour all her illustrations which are just beautiful.

Welp, now the wait for volume 6 begins.

Quite difficult to say, really, even though they have pretty much each received their own volume now. (Still a mystery as to who will be on the cover of Vol 6, however)

All I can say with 100% certainty is that
One of the girls is ruled out, as you'll kind of come to know by Chapter 5(?) of Volume 1

EDIT: As for best girl, unfortunately I have to stay impartial for now *shrugs*. Kikuchi illustrations are always amazing, though. Fly is pretty darn good.

The author (屋久・イケメン) also made a guest appearance on Monthly Gagaga Channel #83 last week (About 3 more weeks until free viewing, though). CM also made its first appearance on that. A large part of the video was people sending in letters asking for advice on how to become a 強キャラ.

If it does get an anime adaptation, though, would make sense for it to cover up to Volume 3.

So, in a few words: I hate every person who will be able to read everything in one go once the series will be finished.

The cliff isn't really a cliff, but damn it makes you want to read the next volume.
Anyway, really good, as usual.
Kikuchi-san is still a dangerous weapon who melts my heart each time she speaks (and Tomozaki's description of her every movements in a holy and fantasy way doesn't help)
Mizusawa is still so cool, like Tomozaki said, if I was a girl I would fall so easily.
Mimimi becomes even more endearing, but my (melted) heart is still with Kikuchi-san.

Now I need to jump from a roof, hope I'll fall into coma and wake up in a few years.

As for me, taking it slowwwly and savoring that goodness. Just finished Chapter 2, which I think is a good high note to stop at for now.

As a side-effect of having had to explore Volume 1 in much detail, it's quite interesting to note the references to a few things in Volume 1 that are popping up in Volume 6 - though I suppose they're also references to the manga by this point.

It's awesome to see how much he changed even from the first volume until this one where he finally realises the root of his problems with real life. And this may be another work where every character is the best character, especially Mizusawa. Waiting for the next volume will be tough now that the stage is set for theatre, manzai and the start of his love problems :)

The translations have gotten to the end of the LN1. I actually read the raw a few weeks back because at the time the translations were so slow but now it ended fast, which was nice. Anyway, given that I enjoyed LN1 and the positive reactions here, I'm curious about how the rest of the series plays out.

Eh what can I say, it gets even better after Volume 1 (in my humble completely unbiased opinion).

Anyway, as everyone will know by now, Volume 6.5 due for release on 18th October and will be a collection of stories (relating to past incidents) written from the POV of different characters. Looks like it's going to be a relatively short one at only 312 pages.

If I had more spare time I'd probably try to read the rest of the series. Fortunately, the translator is carrying on so I'm reading those instead. So far so good.

To put it in gaming terms, for the MC to keep growing he has to continue grinding the good exp areas that he's familiar with (keep on working the basics) and also as he levels up and gains more skills he should challenge appropriate new areas and new monsters that he couldn't before (needs to spend a decent proportion of his time out of his comfort zone).

So far (in the translations) the author is delivering nicely. I'm also glad to see that he's not just interacting with pretty girls too - one worry I'd had in LN1 is that all the other guys felt like "antagonists" and all the girls felt like "capture targets" which gave it a "harem" feel, so LN2 feels better already.

You know, that's when I'm reading stories with such endearing heroines like this one that I remember why I turned towards harem stories even though I prefer OTP. It's just so sad.

On the other hand, Tomozaki still chooses Kikuchi-san based on emotion and not the world.

Will the novel ends with the ideal, or will Tomozaki go though with his feelings and manage to keep being with Kikuchi-san while resolving Hinami's problem.

Based on your impressions of the volume and what I managed to piece together using the illustrations, I'm assuming that Tomozaki and Kikuchi became a couple at the end of the volume? Additionally, Mimimi gave her full support and even gave him the final push he needed despite having a crush on him herself? So long as this isn't a short serialization (approx. 10 volumes) then yea, I don't think this is gonna be the conclusion to this triangle. If this series is planned to be a long-running serialization (12+ volumes), then anything can happen tbh. As for whether Tomozaki x Kikuchi last or not, idk what's in store for them, but that's the fun part. As you've said, it really might only be the beginning.

However, if I'm being completely honest, I'm low key hoping my girl Mimimi gets the win by the end of this series, but I'll also be fine with a Kikuchi win tbh. Basically, I won't be too mad about it if Tomozaki x Mimimi doesn't happen so long as Tomozaki x Kikuchi is handled well.

Like most main characters in series like these, she's the least popular girl among fans. Fans hate main girls. ;)

Nah, it's not because she's the main girl, actually lot of people like her. It's just that so far we only see her as the "one above", the "mentor" of Tomozaki, so to be honest she only has her looks and perfection for her.
On the other hand, Mimimi (and Fuuka) are more endearing with their flaws and how they try their best to accomplish things so you want to encourage them.
They also have overall better dialogues with Tomozaki.
Discussions with Hinami are always her making fun of Tomozaki and the rare times Tomozaki tries to get back at her... I'm not saying that's bad, in fact their dialogues are interesting, but the ones with Fuuka and Mimimi are far more endearing.

Man, my heart still hurts about Mimimi and the author continues to write great scenes with her... Also Kikuchi-san being jealous about her (which is natural, Mimimi being so often with Tomozaki, and her helping for his career path as well as being the first one to hear about it).

Checked the manga version a bit, and I have two questions:
- Getting a girlfriend for Tomozaki, or dating is supposed to be the middle goal. Is the final or big goal revealed after that?
- Please, tell me that there are no signs for this story to go to the direction of Hinami becoming the final target, or either of them developing feelings for the other one?

I don't hate Hinami, but I'm fed up with this kind of beneficial support bullshit.

^Final goal was said from the start: Becoming a riajuu as great as Hinami. And that's kinda was caused the problem in vol 8.
After achieving the middle goal of getting Fuuka as his girlfriend, he's now turned more towards the final goal, which means he has to be be social with people and has less time for Fuuka.

I don't want a Hinami end either, but the story is going toward Tomozaki helping her becoming more "human" and less "machine based on logic". The question is, will this lead to them going out together, or just stay good friends? (hope for the latter)

The scale of the world is basically around Tomozaki. So the more Tomozaki grows, the more the scale grows. At first it's just his class, then there are people he meets at his part time work, then in the latest volume him finally going to Atafami off meetings and meeting new people (as well as creating a Twitter account and getting tons of followers, being the best online player in Japan).

Only Mizuno's the one that has never had any roles in tv anime before, but I think his voice is good and somehow soothing. Hasegawa Ikumi's voice range is amazing, I'm really looking forward to her as Mimimi. The rest of the girls are great too. So with the newest volume, although considered a side volume, we get more info about the characters and I think this volume was meant as setup to the next volume where I think everything may change for Tomozaki.

I have a really bad feeling Tomozaki will lose something important to him in the future. He’s been successful for so long, but this time, some word choices and those damn flags in v8.5 makes me think we soon will see a really huge change in the relationships between Tomozaki and his friends.


Some of the details of v8.5 and my own thoughts about the characters in general.

Hinami’s little sisters are named Nagisa and Haruka. Although something happened and Nagisa isn’t here anymore. The tension and nostalgia in this chapter served for a rather melancholic read.

Hinami’s story of how she met nanashi and how she made reaching him her goal, to reach the top and find someone who also felt empty as she was. This was great and the scene where is is about to give her speech to her team mates in her basket club was really well done. Her chapter was just great to make her easier to understand. Tomozaki, you better be prepared to take responsibility for creating this monster.

Rena is the kind of person we all suspected. A whole chapter is dedicated to her and how she invites chaos into mens’ lives. Tomozaki-kun, run away!

Fuuka is just an angel, but damn she is pretty observant. The way she kinda dissected Hinami’s character and how strangely Hinami was acting towards Tomozaki and Fuuka’s relationship in v8 seems to point to some divide between them. I feel so happy to read her and Tomozaki getting closer, but then I remember v8 and it leaves quite a bitter aftertaste in my mouth. Oh Tomozaki, you really don’t treasure her enough. To get Hinami into that state, Fuuka is powerful. But she should stay away from Hinami, I don’t think they get very well along. Hinami seems to have some omnious agenda for Fuuka and Tomozaki or at least, not helping their relationship in v8.

Mimimi is just Mimimi. She notices how Fumiya hadn’t told Fuuka that she had confessed to him and tells it to Fuuka. And since Fuuka is an angel, she accepts Mimimi’s feelings. In general, Mimimi is perhaps the most relatable character and is she just plain awesome. Tomozaki is still kinda anxious about her, and their relationship is still the one I find the most natural. Her two sides of energetic genki girl and that Black Mimimi, makes for a really complex character.

Tama is cute, oh damn she is cute. She was awesome in previous volumes too. If I could choose one friend, I’d choose her without doubt.

Takei is Takei. And Takei is awesome.

Vol 9 start with the last scene from v8 where Fuuka sees one of Rena's messages to Tomozaki which could be taken as him cheating on her. She storms out of the library I think and he realises his mistake and calls her, but she isn't answering. He goes to the school gate and waits for her there. Suddenly, Izumi calls him and berates him for cheating. He doesn't know quite what to say and in the end she tells him to go to a family resturant nearby. There, Izumi and Nakamura roasts him and makes him understand a bit what Fuuka is feeling about him going to the offline meetings for atafami with Aoi, going home with Mimimi, going to Tama's house with everyone to play. He realises she must have felt jealous when Izumi uses and example of Fuuka walking together with Tachibana. Then Fuuka arrives and Tomozaki realises Izumi and Nakamura set them up together. They leave and Tomozaki and Fuuka doesnt know how to start and Fuuka starts apologising for looking at his phone. Tomozaki says he is also at fault and they go back and forth for a while. Fumiya then takes the initiative and starts saying that he has forgiven her and now it's his turn. He says he is sorry for spending so much time with others. Then he asks her about her opinion and he is surprised when she says she will be cheering him on. She says his world is so much bigger than hers and that she knew they lived in different worlds and she wants to be a girlfriend that could support him. And she doesn't want to be in the way of his life, she doesn't want to be selfish.

"I and Tomozaki-kun are... well, going out, but we live in completely different worlds, and I thought I knew that. And I told myself, I had to respect that."
Her voice, though mixed with frustration, loneliness and other things, clearly reached my ears.

Then Kikuchi-san closed her eyes and moistened her lips as if she was about to make sure of something.

Vol 9 start with the last scene from v8 where Fuuka sees one of Rena's messages to Tomozaki which could be taken as him cheating on her. She storms out of the library I think and he realises his mistake and calls her, but she isn't answering. He goes to the school gate and waits for her there. Suddenly, Izumi calls him and berates him for cheating. He doesn't know quite what to say and in the end she tells him to go to a family resturant nearby. There, Izumi and Nakamura roasts him and makes him understand a bit what Fuuka is feeling about him going to the offline meetings for atafami with Aoi, going home with Mimimi, going to Tama's house with everyone to play. He realises she must have felt jealous when Izumi uses and example of Fuuka walking together with Tachibana. Then Fuuka arrives and Tomozaki realises Izumi and Nakamura set them up together. They leave and Tomozaki and Fuuka doesnt know how to start and Fuuka starts apologising for looking at his phone. Tomozaki says he is also at fault and they go back and forth for a while. Fumiya then takes the initiative and starts saying that he has forgiven her and now it's his turn. He says he is sorry for spending so much time with others. Then he asks her about her opinion and he is surprised when she says she will be cheering him on. She says his world is so much bigger than hers and that she knew they lived in different worlds and she wants to be a girlfriend that could support him. And she doesn't want to be in the way of his life, she doesn't want to be selfish.

"I and Tomozaki-kun are... well, going out, but we live in completely different worlds, and I thought I knew that. And I told myself, I had to respect that."
Her voice, though mixed with frustration, loneliness and other things, clearly reached my ears.
"But..."
Then Kikuchi-san closed her eyes and moistened her lips as if she was about to make sure of something.

this series really making me decide to start reading the novel but its hard to find fan translations. on the contrary if the anime was 24 i wont mind waiting for the anime to finish sadly it seems its only 12 ep so far.

anyone knows a completed series of wholesome sibling interactions like ohayou toka oyasumi or gakuen babysitter or even realistic bullying series such as holyland and suicide island?

just purchased and read official tl for vol 6 damn why is official tl so slow im already grieving for vol 6.5 to read thoughts of mimimi on her confession to tomozaki as well as gumi chan if ever they had it along with some of tama’s thoughts. i really hope some fan tl do and translate it faster. official tl are just way too slow even though they getting paid by customers to read their work.

I guess we don't have to expect for season 2 even though the anime adaptation really did well from animation and pacing story.

I was really shock that there will be a new anime project. I mean the sales of B-Ray/DVD are very low, less than a thousand I think. Eventhough we still don't know is it OVA or season 2?

Honestly the anime adaptation for me much better than I expect. The studio really did well to adapt the novel. They don't skip so many part and the character design is looking good like from novel by fly. I don't get it why have low score in MAL 7.1 and low sales in Japan.

This just goes to show that BD sales aren't the be all and end all. For all we know, this series did very good streaming numbers.
