Agreed, the AGE-FX arc has the second best soundtrack of the series, the first being AGE-2 of course. AGE-1's was shitty (sans the "3 destinies will form history" tune) and the AGE-3 was meh.

I actually thought the first volume was the strongest overall. Volume 2 had some of the strongest single tracks of the show with tracks like Unmei no Saki he, Hajimari no Yokan, and Shukumei, but I feel that the first one captured perfectly the vibe of a space opera that Gundam typically goes for with it's themes and music. As a whole I found the first volume to be a great listen.

I actually felt all but the second were pretty good and more I less up to the standard I've come to expect from Lantis. The issue I had with the second one is a lot of it just sounded like low effort synthesized music while the rest were either rock or orchestral.

I think it's a highly abridged version of Power, or Intervention. One of the main themes for Celestial Being on the first OST at any rate, there are a fair few renditions of it on the first volume.

Tempting though that is to hit play I still hold bitter memories of absolutely ruining my first impressions of Banshee and Gundam from Unicorn's third OST due to really low quality audio uploads, so I'll pass. It's kind of like the musical way of spoiling something. I'll wait for my copy of the soundtrack or one of the guys who normally do the uploads to Youtube

I will say though, since I've listened to all the previews on CDJapan, and I honestly don't recall a good chunk of them ever being used. Tracks ten (a remix of the AGE-FX theme) and eleven (which sounds a bit like a remix of the Zeydra/Legilis theme) for example.

Honestly from hearing them I can't help but wonder if the final arc was going to be something far grander. It could just be only fractions of the tracks were used though (like track four), but still, makes me wonder what else hit the cutting floor besides those tracks.

That was one of the videos that ruined Banshee for me actually. Poor audio quality, a fair amount of crackling with higher notes, and relatively low range to the sounds. Unicorn's music has a lot of amazing tweaks to the sounds and lovely quirks and all up is sublime to listen to, and that video really kills the mood to me, and doesn't properly represent the music.

It's also partly not the Unicorn soundtrack, though those first few tracks are fantastic. :heh:


Well, I've listened to AGE Volume 4 enough now to post some general impressions on it. It was a solid soundtrack all up, with more tracks than I was expecting to like. It had all the sorts of tracks one would expect from a final arc of a series, lots of final battle music, death music, and general ominous and mournful music, along with a few ultra cheerful tracks that personally felt out of place to me.

All up it was an entertaining listen, and some of the tracks will be in my favourites playlist for some time to come. As for personal tracks I believe were of note, the obvious Gundam AGE-FX aside there was Innen no Taiketsu, Zeheart no Legilis, Countdown, and Tatakai no Hibuta. and finally Nageki Tabi no Owari.

The highlight for me however, was track 28. As is commonplace with anime soundtracks, they often include the TV size openings, closings, and insert songs, and this was no exception. Track 28 featured the insert song for episode 49, the ballad version of the first ending theme. Not the TV size however, the full six minute song. That made my day when I saw the track time.

A solid conclusion to Gundam AGE's soundtrack and in my opinion it left a far better taste in the mouth than the shows finale did. Could have been better though, and it is missing a few tracks from the series which now seem to have met the curse of being unreleased tracks, so I'll give it a solid 7.5 out of 10.

The albums should be praised not only for its quality, but also the variety it has. Some of the songs could easily pass as the song for war drama show, like "1/48", "Aila", "Gundam Legend", "Mortal Combat", and then the strong upbeat of passion from Flamenco. It's also hit me that "outlander" is basically "foreign prince: acoustic version", and I thought it belongs to a JRPG for a moment :heh:.

This soundtrack really is something special. Just so many really good tracks in there. Most OST's I just find a couple songs I really like, but this one has a ton. From cute little pieces, to touching, to outright awesome.

Allied Force: The awesome buildup feeling certainly was nice. Just putting together all those great songs into one epic piece :).

Aila: Aila's song really was a touching piece. Certainly reflects the painful position she was put into and how much she'd gone through.

Gundam Build Fighters: Just a very solid and classic feeling action track. Definitely a good song to carry the name of the series.

Crimson Comet ~ Three Times the Passion: Honestly I liked this even more than the Meijin one. Just sounded even more awesome to me. Moegare Gunpla!

To finally hear everything from the show in full, literally constantly eargasming here... Speed-star is probably my favorite due to biased love of violins. :heh:

The albums should be praised not only for its quality, but also the variety it has. Some of the songs could easily pass as the song for war drama show, like "1/48", "Aila", "Gundam Legend", "Mortal Combat", and then the strong upbeat of passion from Flamenco. It's also hit me that "outlander" is basically "foreign prince: acoustic version", and I thought it belongs to a JRPG for a moment :heh:.
Couldn't agree more, nice to see Hayashi putting out such high quality work with tons of variety. Definitely looking forward to him getting more work!

Songs are made in a certain structure, so no full songs are not extending stuff with crap.

99% of anime tv size songs just copy and paste the intro (usually shortened though) first verse and a chorus (usually the one used @ the end). The only difference between a tv size and full song is you don't hear the chorus 3 times, you miss out on a second (and sometimes 3rd verse) as well as the bridge part.

Unless you hate the bridge it's like listening to the tv size song two times in a row most of the time, I fail to see how that is such a big deal, especially when the bridge section can add a lot to the song :rolleyes:

In fairness the TV version of wimp mixes lines from the second refrain into the first refrain, it doesn't have the same impact.

Though I would have to say I still like the full version more.

It's going to be blu spec 2 too which I'm excited to see, and two discs, one for the new tracks and one which is apparently going to be a selection soundtrack. I can't wait to hear what's coming for the final episode's music. :)

I've listened to it. Apart from the removal of the rap track, I can't really feel/hear much of a difference. The beat, rhythm, melody, arrangement - all sound the same.

It's like how the Allied Force we hear in Ep 15 is slightly different because the one woman wail is muted out, compared to the full version in Episode 19 and 25.

I just got the fourth unicorn soundtrack today and it's been an absolute joy, so much so I just have to say something. I haven't seen the final two episodes yet as a friend of mine told me episode six was just a ton of talking and set up so I'm saving it for when I get episode seven, but the final soundtrack was a sublime musical conclusion to the series. Sawano-san demonstrated his knack for weaving melodies in and out in different styles brilliantly, and I'm completely satisfied with the conclusion musically.

My favourite themes would be MSGUCEP7, RE:I AM MARIE, and 20140517. The first really gets my blood pumping and I get chills up the spine when the banshee theme kicks in around the two and a half minute mark, and the other two just strike a cord with me.

Now as for the second disc, when I first heard about it a while back I wasn't too fussed as I've already got the three other soundtracks, but then I heard they were going back to blu-spec for the final soundtrack, something only the first ost was published on. As I was hoping they've cleared up the sound quality for the themes from soundtracks 2 and 3 and they sound fantastic. :D I didn't care for mad-nug and gundam much before, but now. :love:

I'd definitely second that if someone was to buy one of the soundtracks this one would be it, not only that but I'd highly recommend it. It's a truly sublime listening experience and one I think even people who don't normally buy soundtracks would enjoy, doubly so if they like the music in unicorn.

While not being too big of a fan for his AoT work, I am pretty big on his KLK gig. It actually captured the essence better than his work for Unicorn.

Note that Unicorn's OST was friggin excellent, and I loved it to death. But it did, occasionally, sound too much like John Williams/Hollywood fare. Not that its a bad thing, but you know, it lacked a little... erm... unique oomph.

Blumenkranz kicked everyone's ass, though I personally prever the quieter piano remix (and more to the point, Paperblossom's cover of it. Cyua is good, but the song gains a lot from being sung by a native German speaker).

It lacked uniqueness? Sure I can see that but what's unique about Guilty Crown mark 3 aka KLK? Sawano has been derivative as shit since Guilty Crown. Guilty Crown, Shingeki, KLK and that one track from dat aldnoahzero pv/cm come from the same blender.

Comparing them 3 to Unicorn, Basara and AoNoExorcist and it's night and day.

Gundam AGE's story telling is a bit shoddy, but I REALLY liked some of it's OP and ED.

Two I'll mention are the following: the last OP (AURORA) and the last ED (forget-me-not).

Amusingly enough, I heard AURORA before I managed to watch AGE. I heard it first as it was used in a Kancolle AMV.

As for forget-me-not, I got LSS after I heard it for the first time. It's not that bad, but then I was also reading the Visual Novel, planetarian, at that time. (I won't go through the details, but since planetarian is a Key VN, it's a definite tearjerker). Remembering the last scene in the VN while having LSS with forget-me-not made me like the song even more, as it somehow fits the setting.
