Gin-iro no Olynsis
Broadcast: October 2006
Based on a seinen light novel thats serialized in the seinen(young men's) magazine Dengeki Maoh.
For now there's one volume released:
http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/9610/vol16gk.jpg
Genre: Shounen/Seinen, Fantasy
According to some site; Gin-iro no Olynsis is a Boy-Meet-Girl outer space sci-fi story.
Well, I love sci-fi stories, and if it has romance too, then I'm definitely watching this :)
Finally was able to find some image :)
Well, its a light novel so expect the novel to contain illustrations.

Sexy babe
The image seems like a promo for the anime, anyway she's sexy >.< now I'm definitely watching this LOL
Animation Production: Toei Animation
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toei_Animation
Toei Animation also worked on Kamisama Kazoku and Binbou Shimai Monogatari.
Hisashi Hirai (the guy behind character designs for Infintite Ryvius, scryed, SOukyuu no Fafner and of course Gundam Seed) is doing the character designs for this... well I guess he illustrated the original novel or something, it looks a bit like his style. He's always been a Sunrise person so I guess he was pissed with them about the Destiny debacle and decided to work with Toei (or it's a one-off thing like with Fafner?).
Toei has opened a site for Gin-iro no Olynssis:

Huh? What is there to be pissed off?
If he did the original illustrations for the novels, and he is a animation character designer as well, then surely getting him to do the design isn't such a weird deal, right?
Small update on official site

Ps.Could someone translate the info of the two main characters and mecha?
It's on my must see list.

Well, it's not weird, it's just that I didn't expect him to go and work outside of Sunrise again, but considering Fafner I guess it's not too ahrd to imagine. It also makes a lot of sense if he was the original illustrator... As for pissed off, well maybe he wasn't but there were some staff who were most certainly pissed off at GSD.

Are the characters on second image also from it?
Don't understand this language. Damn must learn japanese.
There is small uptade on official site (new characeters) if someone is interested.
Wow, there's so little information and hype about this one. I'm really surprised there hasn't been a trailer released yet. I'm not put off by Hisashi Hirai's designs, but I think the 'look' of his characters is rather dated.
Incidently this and Code Geass share two seiyuus - Kaori Nazuka (Eureka!) and Fumiko Orikasa - and, unfortunately for Toei, it's going up against Code Geass in the same time slot too.

Same character designer yes. Hisashi Hirai. He also did the ones for Fafner. Different studio though.
Rather annoyed there's still no trailer. The thing airs in a couple of hours and there's next to no indication of what to expect. Actually that's probably a good thing...

i thought the girl looked more like Neya. lol, Kouji finally getting his love story with Neya? i support the canon Kouji x Aoi though. but he has Kouji's/Kira's wistful look and Kazuma's hair.
Sadly, it becomes evident pretty quickly why Toei didn't reveal much about this show beforehand.
Everything is just so...well...dull. Animation, music, backgrounds, direction its all bland and uninspired. The plot reads like mish-mash of cliches with everything from the hapless hero to girl with pendant. It's really trying hard to be like Eureka 7. The OP even has some scenes that could have been nabbed straight out of E7's first OP. Even Eureka herself, the very talented Kaori Nazuka as Tea, is onboard but she sounds like she's going through the motions. I was waiting for her to say "Lenton" all the episode lol.
Anyway this was a real let down.:(

...Everything is just so...well...dull. Animation, music, backgrounds, direction its all bland and uninspired....Unfortunately, I agree. I was hoping for a nice role for Nazuka Kaori as the grey-haired Tea. She may yet rescue her part of things, but I'm afraid I won't be around to find out. A waste of other good VAs like Hisakawa Aya and Akemi Kanda, too. Artland at its least effective, in my book.
cliche, or not cliche, hopefully this won't get ignored by the fansub community >.<

do anyone know the release date of this anime? Supposely, it says somewhere on ANN that it release its 1st episode on Otcober 6th.
Yup first episode was aired on October the 6th 01:30am, three episodes have been released so far but no subs.
Quite a entertaining series if i may say so myself, a bit of a low budget but nothing to bad.

This is one of those series that is definitely not up my alley and that I will call poor (the animation bothers even me, and the writing is fairly lame) but I am discovering that it is also one that I will keep dropping in to look at.
The basic concept of the girl who is the mecha (or an android integrated with it a la Eureka7?) and with whom the protagonist bonds to make the mecha go is pretty cool. I like the character design of the girl. And I love Nazuka Kaori's voice. I'm not a connoisseur of mecha battles, so other people will have to tell me if those are any good.
Well it's actually not really my type of series either, but somehow i kind of liked it. I thought the mecha battles was a bit shabby done, but i ain't exactly the right person to judge fighting/action moments and it's a low budget production so we can't really expect any wonders in that area.
The thing that got me interested was that it was based of a Seinen novel, so i hope that the story doesn't get effected to much by it's flaws.

The plot is okay so far, but the animation is horrible. The lack of details is too much to bear. All the character's faces have so little detail that they look like passers-by in other anime. The fighting scenes are laughable.
Well, I will keep on watching it for now, because I kinda like the idea that the girl is the mecha.

The magazine Gin-iro no Olynsis light novel is serialized in (Dengeki Maoh) is aimed at young men, so you could say seinen light novel >.< but light novels from MediaWorks are published under a label for boys, a shounen label thats called Dengeki Bunko.
So its more like a shounen/seinen light novel. well, MediaWorks try to aim at male otakus with their manga and light novels.
Edit:
And its pretty weird that no volumes are out yet of this light novel, nor can I find any info about the release date of the first volume o.O

Maybe they saw Tea and said, "Lacus, we missed you!". Too overcome with emotions to do anything, subs are delayed. ;) :joke:

I won't mind starting a subgroup. I'll be the QCer ... I *think* I have a decent command of the English language. We'll call it ... Gin-iro no Olynsis fansubs! :D
/stops dreaming
But I want to watch this show. I really do. It's very feasible, as it's only 12 episodes. :)
Are being or serious or just joking??? Cos I might be interested...
UPDATE: I have got the RAWs, and they are of fairly decent quality...so I might start something.
lol
I'm probably taking my previous post back... After watching like the first two RAWs of this series...my opinion...is ahem...quite low.
The animation is bad, plain bad. No need to elaborate. Plot doesn't seem to be any good either, and the characters seem kinda boring to me.
If anyone needs the RAWs I'll be keeping them for some time (30 days perhaps).

I've reached half-way point...Hey it's not as bad as it is said. The plot isn't anything epic or stellar nor are the characters Reinhard von Lohengramm, but it's pace, character development and plot-points are pretty much decent.
However, the entire anime reeks of laziness. It's like whoever is directing or animating this was forced to with a gun to their heads. It's semi-apparent why people would drop this, considering the overall presentation just feels so...stale.

So we (Shinsen) released this thing. It's like Gundam Seed's retarded stepchild, but we did it anyway. Gotta love completeness.
Anybody know anything about it, like whose horrible idea it was to make it? I think I heard it was a series of light novels, does anybody know if that's true?

From what I heard (rumors maybe) that anime was an overall failure to attract mainstream mecha otakus in Japan.
I repeat maybe were RUMORS that I heard and read.

And an American cult favorite is born: It's so bad you HAVE to like it, or else you're not cool.
OK, if it's that bad, can I assume that these 6 episodes are all that will be subbed? If I'm going to hurt myself, I'd like to at least hurt myself completely... :D
Yes, we're subbing the whole thing.

Well i was watching it and while i was watching the intro. I was like hmm this intro seems familiar. So i kept on thinking and then it hit me! its like Gundam Seed! the chick looks like Lacus same outfit hair. the guy might as well be kira yamato. IDk is it just me but some of the intro sequences seem the same too! Is it just me? Sorry about making a new thread. I'm glad i'm not only who is thinking about gundam seed when i see the intro. Dude there is guy who looks like athruan (sp) as well its kinda funny and ridiculous all in the same time.
I saw the first few episodes of this when it first came out, and promptly dumped it. I'm really not surprised if it did poorly.
I don't know how much expertise Toei Animation has in the giant mecha area, but to make what seems to amount to some wierd crossover of Gundam Seed Destiny and Fafner almost immediatly after destiny ended using virtually identical character look alikes screams to me as a bad plan of action.
I swear to God I heard it was based off a series of light novels, and they just snagged "Hirai-sensei" (Whoever that is. I guess it's the GS char designer?)
to do the character design.. Mecha light novels? Does that work as a genre?

Check on the first page of the thread, it says it's based on a series of light novels. The illustration on the first page is also by Hirai. So maybe he was involved with the novels before the anime.
And yeah, I watched the first episode of this when it aired and jsut couldn't go on. Just horribly average in every way possible....

I won't say it's a guaranteed classic like Death Note, because it definitely isn't, but if you're not too much into animation and can tolerate a decent story, my answer for that is 'why not?' Let me tell you, however, that the animation is subpar and the story is only decent. I'm still watching this series, however.
Why don't you try just the first episode and see for yourself?

It's not the character designer's fault ... if it was as well-animated as Code Geass we wouldn't have any problem at all. Personally, I think it's the animators' fault.

Based on a male oriented light novel thats serialized in the seinen manga magazine Dengeki Maoh (http://comipedia.com/magazine/dengeki_maoh).
The first volume of this light novel got released last month (12/2006), and the light novel is still ongoing in the seinen manga magazine Dengeki Maoh (http://comipedia.com/magazine/dengeki_maoh).

Uhm this is a difficult reply because I'm grateful to Shinsen for having "released this thing" but, at the same time, I don't like the tone you're referring to it at all.
I mean: the characters' design is pretty similiar to the ones of Gundam Seed, that's a fact. Ok, the characters' design could be a little more original, that's for sure. But, aside from that, is the plot, the sound, the animation so bad? I don't think so: it's not a master piece, like others have already wrote, but it's not that bad. It's an average anime: not too good not too bad, good enough for mecha fans and for people who have already seen all of the master pieces out there.
I wrote to make forum readers know that there are people who actually like this anime and it isn't only hated.

I think that this anime is one of the few "you think its kinda okey or you think its the one of the worst out there".
For me it was gundam seed characters and lazy story with "bird" mechas. I mean once i saw that canary mecha i just said "wtf". Even thou I gave it a chance and watched all the 5 eps as I was dead bored that day but I dont think I even need to say that my impressions of the show was " this sucks"

I can't even laugh at episode 2, it was pretty bad.
Also watched 1 episode and wasn't too impressed...
I've heard Kira/Lacus compared to Suzaku/Euphemia in Code Geass, two gentle yet serious/righteous young people, and now these two characters who seem like a goofy couple of kids, so now my idea of who Kira and Lacus are is pretty confused... I watched 2 episodes of GSD once and couldn't muster interest unfortunately, though once I watched the second half of an episode of an old Gundam Wing series and was really into it. :o

I have watched till ep 7 and I think this series look too much in terms of design to GS but since its the same guy doing the drawings... oh well!
About the story I find it interesting till ep 7. Seems something like blue gender + robotech last arc(fighting the aliens) mixed together.
I watch the fire few episodes of this show. And i must say, the mecha fight didn't live up to my expectation. There isn't any practical action involved in the mecha fight. Is like shoot and die, No action involved. i think i'm gonna stop watching it ..

This series strangely reminds me of Iriya, so I guess I'll wait this one out and see it to completion. Although the animation just screams "what the hell" and "gundam seed."

Well watched the ending.. And it was too open. What happened to them? It left you wondering if they were thrown into time.. Killed.. trapped in limbo.. no explanation at all.
As for what happened to them well, on the animes website the outline for the last episode says that:
Tokito and Tea are thrown to the far side of space and time... and that yousuke and the gang will continue to wait for their return forever.
And since that happened, why they showed the necklace doesnt make any sense.
I heard that the anime was pretty bad in general so go figure. Multiple time traveling is a bit confusing, lol. All i can say is that it was tolerable only because i had nothing else to watch. Ah thank god a new episode of Gintama, something good, compared to giniro at least, ha.
LOL, I know the anime is kind of cheesy, but it's ok sometimes. I just really want to know the ending..... and it turned out it was a confusing ending and I didn't like it ~_~
Does episode 10 and 11 seem to be not working for some people? All the others are working just fine but 10 and 11 is all messed up, no visual just really bad audio....
The end seemed kind of rushed, it was ok, but it could be better.

my guess, when future Tea came to the past, she changed the history, so they could be dead now (Tokito and present Tea), or is it just the future Tea's necklace?
Tiberium Wolf
2007-04-11, 16:13
My guess is:
The current Tia is sent to the future with silber and thus becoming Selena
Tokito is sent to the past and so losing his memories some how and the only thing he remembers is Koichi Aizawa name and so he becomes Koichi Aizawa and thus leads to our current history. Tokito = Koichi. Loop here.
Tia didn't lose the necklace. That necklace belonged to Selena.
I think this is the only explanation.
silenteagle1
2007-04-11, 20:21
Wolf that makes a lot of sense about the necklace. Ah the never ending time loop of a cheesy anime.
I just re-watched the last ep and now:
I'm sure that the necklace in the end belongs to the current Tea.
The necklace in the end is broken, that's why they did a close-up on current Tea's necklace, when future Tea tell them to leave.
Huh....so its an open ending, but from what I am seeing, T and T were killed. Which means they will be waiting untill they die. Weird show.
Wolf that makes since but that ending is tragic. Do you mean Tokita becomes the Al Koichi? So its a never ending loop that results in the very end with them getting together but in death. But my theory they die too so not a happy ending either way.
Anyways it was an okay series.
Even this is outdated abit i have to argue that Selena (Future Tia) necklace is broken too so it possible it can be hers.
The part of it floating may be just to add be touching maybe?
But I'm sure this gonna repeat it self so therefore Tia current gonna live for another hundred years before coming back.
And to how it really ends someone mention before form a poster they gone into an space time travel that maybe it explain how Selena says she form the future?
Overall the plot is very confusing as you still need to research to know the end, the making of it just totally suck in terms of graphic and character design. But i say if you have time or time to waste is an anime that you could go do that tho there still many anime so if you into mech, time travel or some romantic this is a bad anime (ignore the character design too.....)

Sorry to bump this up, but I just finished watching this series, so...
Well, for one thing:
1. Animation sucked.
2. Characters are a blatant rip-off of Gundam SEED. (But since it's the same character designer, well...)
3. Initial story was a bit bland, but it did get better a bit.
4. The romance in the story sucked. It's too damn cheesy.
However, the ending was kind of interesting, but since the site does state that they (Tia/Tea and Tokito) were thrown into the endless space of time (or whatever), most likely they're just repeating history all over again.
I, for one, will NOT repeat history all over again, thank you very much. :p If EVER they re-make this Anime (e.g. animation similar or better than Code Geass), then maybe I'll watch it again... but in my book, 6 out of 10. It's just so-so.

use the CCCP set of codec (after uninstalling all others and rebooting, and dont use WMP, use either Zoom or MPC.
The last episodes all worked fine for me, chances ar (if it still isnt working) you have corruped copies. Go to the shinsen irc channel and redownload from scratch.

everything reminds you of GS, even the song LOL
lol i knew that song sounded familiar :D
and i have to agree with alot of ppl its the kind of anime that you only watch cause your bored
but on the other hand i found that the closer to the ending the more i wanted to see the ending (meant both ways lol) but i also watched it all in one sitting so i probably got more into it then i would have if i watched it normally
and the whole floating necklace thing pissed me off i wanted to know what happened to them not the necklace :P
but then again iv always thought that every anime (well, most anyways) needs at least one ep after the story line to explain there future after the story properly
i almost didnt watch past ep 3 (my deadline to whether im interested or not) but i was bored had alot of time to kill and was to lazy to look for something else
i would rate this as a 3 outta 10 it would have gotten at least a 5 for not being bad enough for me to switch it if it wasnt for that damn necklace

REVIEW TIME
Presentation is half the fun of everything. If your teacher is an interesting guy to keep watching, even math can be a nice time at school. And this is the main problem with this show; it lacks presentation. The core story is actually quite good but it was shown in such an amateurish way you end up not caring about it. It is a mix of various post-apocalyptic stories we have seen over the years, all of which are interesting topics to make a story from. Unfortunately, nothing was done in a way for you to chose any other show implementing the same idea to this. Everything is plain BORING! And since I love making lists of reasons, here is another one.
1) Hey, the characters remind me of Gundam SEED! It is a famous show and it is still liked by many people and the same character designer made the Olynssis cast as well. That would in theory mean you can find equally interesting characters here as well, but no, they are not. They are dried up caricatures made on the run, with far less quality both in personality and even artwork and animation.
2) Hey, the heroes’ team is so much like Gundam X! True, the team is strolling the countryside of a devastated planet, scavenging the remains of a former advanced human civilization and helping the local populations deal with roaming machines. Unfortunately, none of the cast has the same depth as in that other show.
3) Hey, the enemy robots have a similar role to those bugs in Blue Gender! Yes, the mechanic Gardeners are, just like the Blue, aiming to eradicate humanity for ecological reasons. They are otherwise far less interesting as adversaries because when they are defeated, they just go boom and disappear. The Blue on the other hand would scream, blow in little pieces and fill the surrounding area with their guts and blood. Also, while they both kill people on sight, we almost never see corpses with the Gardeners. But the Blue, man, they would create lumps of grotesque meat out of their victims.
But even if you don’t try to compare it with other shows, the anime is still bad in terms of interesting storytelling.
1) The amnesia routine. A key character will have forgotten her past and thus a mystery that would have been revealed in 10 minutes, now took 10 episodes, which is most of the show. Plain and simple, the amnesia routine was used just to maintain a mystery. And it would be fine if the girl had complete amnesia but no, she only forgets what the plot requires her to forget. She still has the hots for the same guy and she even remembers his name. How convenient is that?
2) Parents are not there. Everybody feels like they sprout from the ground. Not only we don’t see parents, but they are also never mentioned. I mean, even if they are dead they should still be mentioned at least once as means to show how they affected their kids or how they came to be living together or WHATEVER! Yet for all we see, the series begins with these teenagers having their own mobile base and super vehicles and no real mention who took care of them or how they got to acquire all that fancy stuff. That makes everything feel without a base to start from.
3) Everybody is short-sighted. You won’t believe how many times heroes and enemies won’t be able to see something huge right next to them. Famous examples include last-moment saves by an incoming huge mecha blocking an attack that would kill someone. Said mecha, was not in the battlefield up until seconds ago and no matter how fast it is, it sure doesn’t move faster than the light. Another example, is the heroes mentioning to a woman how they intend to go to a city near by. So she point in the area next to them where a huge amount of smoke is coming from the now destroyed city. Were they blind to be unable to see a valley-long city that filled half the sky with black smoke that can be seen from hundreds of miles away? How about everybody looking surprised to learn some of them are not humans but artificially created beings? Wow, wasn’t the cross-shaped iris in their eyes a give-away hint that something is off with them from the first second they met them?
4) Retarded dialogues and romance. The lead male is the archetypical spineless harem lead and guess what, all the chicks love him and not the muscular, more active, more open and sure of themselves fighters right next to him. Harem premise anyone? Even half the things they are saying are dried up one-liners you usually find in date-sims. “This is my Koichi, Koichi is so good to Tia, Koichi better go on date with me to find courage”. I was almost expecting for a text box with options to appear, where I could choose my Kama Sutra position with every girl I meet.
5) Huge plot holes and story inconsistency. The writers of the show hardly bothered to make the story feel logical or even consistent. For example, when the lead character glances at the lead mecha for the first time in the pilot episode, he will comment surprised “I know this robot from somewhere.” So here you think it is another mystery to be explained later but NO IT ISN’T! He never saw it before in his life, it had nothing to do with the story, or him having amnesia either. It was plain bad storytelling. At another point we are told how Earth is being attacked by Gardeners for over a thousand years and how the entire planet is isolated from the rest of the space with an energy field that prevents humans from other planets to enter it. So here I am asking you, how is it humanely possible for this war to last for so many years when the robots destroy cities at a daily base? Even if humans would breed like rabbits, they would still be eradicated in a few years. But that is not possible because there are no parents in this show, remember? And what the hell, every mysterious girl appears after a thousand years at the same moment mankind begins its last attack on the machines? And what the hell, was Tia in a coma all this time? Or was the space fleet waiting outside of the planet stationary for all this time? Thousand years my but; all that make sense only if they lasted a few years at best.
6) Time travel panacea. A character comes from the future in order to change the bad ending of the original timeline. Well thank you so much for the forced good ending you idiots! As if the story wasn’t bad as it is, you now had to shoehorn a character who knows everything that will happen and can easily change it. And what a surprise, not even that character bothered to explain the plan before the finale just to throw in more stupid mystery. Not only that but she hardly explained HOW she traveled in time or HOW she found Swartch in the first place. More plot holes.
7) Ridiculous attempts at making the story feel sophisticated. There are many scenes which try to make you think the characters are smart which end up making you facepalm. There is a scene where robots constantly attack a city and nobody knows the reason but suddenly one will scream out of nowhere “I got it, it all started when that girl came to town. You know, the ONLY person who EVEN came to our town all these months?” Well done Sherlock! There is another scene where a girl informs that one of their team is missing from her room. Everybody goes there to see and true, she is not there. Well, the other girl just said she wasn’t so why did 6 people go to double check the obvious? Not only that, but one of them touches the bed and says “It is still warm so she didn’t leave too long ago.” ARE YOU FRAKKING KIDDING ME??? It took several minutes between the moment the girl found out she was missing and informed the others, up to the moment the guy touched the bed. Any bed that follows the laws of thermodynamics would have long lost its stored heat by then.
I can also throw in how TERRIBLE the production values are. Artwork and animation are way too crude, with big character outlines, awfully simplistic explosions and jerky motions. And what is this, why are all the girls running around with extra short skirts? I doubt it has something to do with the fashion of that time; it’s plain fan service that undermines women and turns them to fap material. And the lead mechas look bad as well. Mechas are supposed to look cool and these are not.
The only thing I really liked in the show is the opening and ending themes, which are indeed good and which I feel they were wasted on this show.

Bottom line? Not recommended unless you want to drop your IQ.
