I loved Mugen no Frontier but I warn those with interest not to watch the previews on Youtube, cause what you see is what you get.....That is there is not much more too the game that what is displayed on the PV so just surprise yourself get the game and have a blast. =)

Ok, I'm quite a new when it comes to these series. A half a year ago I played Super Robot Taisen Original Generations and Generations 2 for GBA and I absolutely loved it. I have tons of both males and females characters as favorites, but my favorite one has to be Excellen with her naughty personality =)

Now I looked at the ps2 remake and I have a need to play it. I know it's on Japanese, and I'll not understand the half of it but still...
Is it good or would you recommend me some other game?

Since you already know the story, why not watch them in full over-the-top animated glory.

PS2's Original Generations come with both OG1 and 2, but there's a sequel which is OG Gaiden, with more over-the-topness.

The OG series is said to be a 4 part story with Gaiden as a side dish which also adds to the story. We are now waiting for OG 3 and 4.

The OVA is after OG1 & OG2.
Yes there is an anime which is more or less a retelling of the games.
It's 25 episodes long but I heard it's not very good.

Well in the hardcore fan point of view, they did fail to live up to most of the aspects of SRW.

Mostly its because SRW is too awesome as a game and in a short 26 episodes, its hard to produce as much as the storyline OG1 had.

I started watching Divine Wars a few days ago. I like it pretty much and I'm satisfied even though you can see from the quality point of view that it's a lower budget anime. I expected for it to fallow story from each side a bit, not to fully concentrate at Ryusei's storyline. In any case, I enjoy it as a fan of SRW.

Now if you would excuse me, I'm gonna go play some SRWOG on my ps2 =)

I may already mentioned this but Super Robot Wars OGs(PS2) and Gaiden should make its way outside Japan. Atlus can bring another Banpresto game, Poison Pink or Eternal Poison but that game was made after SRW OGs. I knew it was dubbed but come on. Yakuza 2 wasn't dub but why not SRW OGs? I believe the so-called "professional gamers" in the West may appreciate it better than its GBA versions.

Hmm....Terada makes mention about this year being a year of change for the series that will make people make remarks that goes "Ooh, this is indeed new" and "Wow, I didn't expect the game to play this way".

I will never understand why some people can be so anal about OG Saga, its a fun little game and if anything most of the silliness is a throwback to the days of when Banpresto did more than just SRW games but other RPG's and various games.

I'm still waiting on a full blown Great Battle sequel and when OG Saga finally moves onto more Hero Senki style crossovers because its already pretty much succeeding its spirit.

Anyone already tried that Super Robot Taisen Endless Frontier on Japanese? Guess I should read some of the posts from before but I'm just lazy. From what I saw on the trailers it contains 50% fanservice and 50% neat gameplay. I'm looking forward to it. =)

Being fans of the games myself, Endless Frontier was quite a nice ride. It feels most similar to NamcoXCapcom for battle system, but gets much more complicated towards the end when you have a good number of attacks and skills. The character interaction is a cross between SRW and NXC, and has lots of sexual puns. The interaction is hilarious most of the time, but I'm not sure if they can carry it completely over in english. Overall the game is more fanservice than anything else.

Actually, it's less tedious than NxC. At least I enjoyed watching the boss fight in Endless Frontier. Can't tell how many time I have to yawn when it's enemy turn in NxC.

I don't know why people think fanservice instantly means bad. I just thought this game will prove otherwise.

NXC actually had great interaction, but the battles dragged on for too long. Reinforcements 5 times in a single stage is plus slow movements makes it much more boring than SRW. SRW had years of building up to create a good pace for its strategic battles, NXC is just a start and did just decent.

Oh and I forgot to mention, the dungeon movement is similar to Xenosaga, the world map is old school rpg style.

She's a W series android who pilotted the Flickeri Geist which was a patchwork of Weiss Ritter's body but Alt Eisen's weapons. She's like an earlier alternate reality version of Lamia in shes an android who learns to have emotions.

Fun fact: Flickerei means 'Patchwork' quite similar to Ouka's Rapiecage from OG. Which was coincidentally a bash of Wild Wuergar/Falken the successors to Alt and Weiss. I get the feeling Lamia and the whole school story in OG was created to write Ariel out of OGverse.

PS: Persona 4 have dub actually, at least for me since I was able to see what the original Japanese version looks like. It much like sometimes the Japanese one wins but sometimes English do. It depends on on your taste unless you are a Japanophile or fansub Nazi.

If there is anything that I'm confident about, it'll be "SRW will never have dub". I don't believe there will anyone that's brave enough to try dubbing SRW franchise with all that ridiculous and over-the-top dialogues. Not to mention just the idea can get yourself burned to ash by all the fans.

Can you imagine it? The epic battle between Zengar and Wordan can be turned to soap opera just by replacing the original voice with dub.

But after 21 years living in this world, I have learned that there is nothing absolute. So yeah, if there is dub, there will be riot.

There is a mission in Alpha 3 which we see a badly damaged SRX then it was swallowed by a black hole. There is only Ryusei, Rai and Aya in that robot. Mai wasn't in there. Aya was missing and presumed dead. Mai replaced her until Aya was rescued.

SRW has many series, OGS and Alpha series are separate. The Original Generation series, OG, is a series with only SRW original characters, most of them main characters of the other SRW series.

Alpha series: Alpha 1, Alpha Gaiden, Alpha 2, Alpha 3

OG series: OG1, OG2, OG Gaiden.

And you don't need spoilers here, most of us who hang on this thread are really hardcore SRW players lol

The SRW series introduced the 'Cross Gate' into the franchise, its a trans dimensional, time traveling gate, meaning anyone can go in and exit in a totally difference universe and time. This sets up a super multiverse for SRW, basically all SRW can be connected through the Cross Gate. As long as an SRW mentions Cross Gate, or is possible to have a Cross Gate, it is canon to SRW. Though if nobody crosses the gate or has a need to, their story will just be independant and doesn't affect other SRWs.

I know they won't get rid of Kyosuke's pair any soon, so I'm happy. They have been my favorite OG character since Impact, not to mention my lovely Alfimy.

After playing SRW Z, I went back playing OGs and still like it more than Z. Something about Z that's lacking, but I can't quite point out. I don't feel pumped up, and don't watch as much animation as I did in OGs.

Hopefully OG3 will be on PS2. I have been spoiled by Banpresto, and don't tell me to go back to handheld after OGs :p.

Yes,it does have a connection with SRW OGs.
It is evident in the Drma Cd and without going into spoilers I read that the connection is in the game too with Haken and Aschen.

Rand is actually pretty good, he wasn't over the top hotblooded, he was a tortured man who kept painful memories in him and suffered over his own guilt.

I almost had manly tears when he first used Pain Shouter with Mail acknowledging him and he finally lets everything off his chest. Gunleon is powered by the pain and suffering he felt for Rand and Mail, Rand definitely sounds tormented and angry when he shouts out his heart in Pain Shouter and ZAAA HIIIITTOOO KUUUURAAAAASHAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!

He is only hotblooded because he is manly enough to live with his suffering and overcome it, his great waifu is understanding enough to accept him as well.

Kai and the manly gang would easily be his drinking buddies.

Well, in OGG Dark Brain is searching for the 12 Keys, Asakim in Z is searching for the Spheres, which are 'Keys' to 'Taiji'.

All these 'keys' have one thing in common, which is power that transcends space-time and parallel universes. Anything that can allow you to travel between parallel universes can get into the OGverse very easily lol

Not sure when they're going to bring the Akashic record into OG, which Taiji in SRWZ sounds quite similar to.

What I mean is that SRWZ can easily fit into OG.

Alot of those players who start out with Setsuko really hate Asakim, but for some of us who started out with Rand, we like Asakim. I also find myself liking Rand and Mail's story more than Setsuko's, both are good stories though. I like more positiveness than sadness. Hopefully all of them will get into OG.

I also want to see more of Ji Edel, he's godly awesome lol, the most awesome villian ever. He has the most character, personality, motive, lines, replies and cut-in.

The battle system still involves playing through the fan service scenes, but how battles happen, its still not explained yet. From the tiny bit in the magazine I read and understood, it seems like its very different from normal SRW.

The story of this game is about a military academy, the Super Robo School, in order to prepare themselves against future threats and threats from parallel universes, has decided to train their top pilots with a Super Robo simulator.

These pilots will undergo simulation training which involves these SRW mechs. It seems all mecha are just simulations and are not real in their world, it is to prepare them for future threats. Somehow their world is expecting parallel universe invaders and they may come in any type of form, so this mix of SRW mechs could be good training material.

I don't know, sounds interesting to me. A very different perspective in SRW.

Anyway the list has like every series in J, W and K except Tekkaman series.

When Banpresto is making these handhelds, its for building budget for a PS2 release. Hey, we're getting one release every quarter now, we shouldn't be complaining lol. And its like one PS2 release every 6 to 9 months, the production rate has been quite insane after combining into Namco Bandai.

You'd be surprised at how many Japanese terms they keep in translating process. At the very least there are still Kaguya's "cow demon running gag", and most (if not all, since I can't remember all of them) Haken's english phrases :heh:.

Banpresto sure hold their OG3 for too long. I'd be damned for saying this, but after what I had in OGs, I always hope they won't release OG3 on any handheld.

The ending kinda hint that they kissed/hug/having s*x by making Kaguya said things like 'would you please turn off the light, it's embarassing' or sort of. Well, I only played the english one here.
If they're going to make OG Saga 2, I hope they'll at least give us some character from OG universe, other than the alien monsters like Einst. Heck, they could give us some 'Guests' at least ;_;

Ibis story will come in the next OG, I have a strong feeling about that. MX is a given, considering how they appeared in OGG, and Touma also. However, their story are quite short so I think they won't take many stages in OG3. The one that I want to see but won't have much chance to appear is Cobray :(.

Note: Apotheosize Ialdabaolth is one broken unit. Certainly one man army there.

Back on OG Saga, the last time I have so much fun reading text dialogues are when playing Monkey Island, and now it's OG Saga :D.

Well Aqua is already in OGG, I can't wait for Aqua cut-ins lol, she's in the top 3 for bounciest SRW character, probably fighting with Kusuha for the no.1 spot.

There's also Cry Wolves and the scientists providing a start for OG3 to include MX.

Touma was already saved by Zengar as described by him in Alpha 3, he'll certainly be making an appearance. But at the same time people are still waiting for DGG-4, whether it will be fists or a bike.

Hyperion would be possible in OG3 as well, its one of my favourite Original reals.

Not sure what mecha would that scientist(forgot the name) be creating that was supposed to counter Granzon.

Cobray actually can appear anytime Banpresto wants him to, he's free to dive into any Banpresto game lol. If they bring the Balmar main force into the story line, probably OG4, we can have Kusuha getting Shin Ryukooh, along with Dis Astranagant and even Selena, to play through the GanEden plot and then to Keisar Ephes.

Armour Breaker = アーマーブレイカー, it is a weapon part you can equip on mechs. It lowers the target's armour, allowing you to do alot more damage.

To use it effectively, most people give it to a mech piloted by someone with 直撃(fury seishin). With this seishin, it ignores the bosses' immunity to bad status and stat reductions. One good candidate is Leona and her Siegerlion, she has 直撃 seishin.

You can also equip it on R-2 and separate for an armour breaker shot before combining back into SRX, Rai has the 直撃 seishin.

Another very effective strategy is to have a pilot with 直撃 seishin pilot Wurger L, which has スタンショック(Stun Shock), Stun Shock completely disables the target and it will only sit there for you to attack for one turn, it won't counter attack as well.

When you attack, put your strongest attackers, Daizengar and Ausseinseiter for example, each into a Twin with someone who has 魂(Soul seishin), someone like Kai, Ryoto and Katina. This will maximise the damage. But that's not all, at the same time make sure you are always supported by another Twin unit with powerful attacks for support attacks.

Its all about positioning and putting units into Twins correctly and multiply the damage. If you're playing a game with weapon upgrades, you can kill Dark Brain 2nd form in one turn with extra damage to spare.

Another person whose lines would probably sound weird would be Excellen, in her Rein Weissritter. I guess seeing her go "waowao~n" every time I kick off Rampage Ghost kinda made me thinking...

Also, Combination attacks like Tenjou Tenga Ichigeki Hissatsu Hou and Rampage Ghost bypass barriers like AB Fields or Warp Fields, so they're definitely used as boss killers. And the good thing with OGs was that you can Twin two units that can perform Combination Attacks, then place another Twin unit beside that with Support Attack, and are also capable of Combination Attacks.

Example, SRX (HTB Cannon) + Alteisen Riese (Rampage Ghost), with the Fairlion S (Royal Heartbreaker) + Wildfalken (Twin Bird Strike). Not to mention that you can also stack Friendship Bonuses while in Twin formation... like above (Ryusei and Latooni, then Latooni and Seolla).

Cast Lockon (for all units), Flash/Iron Wall and Hotblood (for both Ryusei and Kyosuke), Ryusei's Critical seishin... and shoot a Rage-powered Armor Breaker on the boss prior to that = recipe for OHKO. :D

Of course, in OGGaiden, you already have the luxury of bringing the G-Compatikaiser and the Apotheosized Ialdabaoth, who are BOTH capable of the Soul seishin...

The first arc in OGG had been explained in the OVA, so I too have the same opinion as you. And it's not really intresting to see Jurgen at all >_> The ODE System give me some trouble at first though. Well, but there's Folka and Compatible Kaiser to see. . and Tiz too :x

The main problem for the first 15 chapters is that we already played it during OG 2.5, but immediately after that, we got Shura awesomeness so its not too bad. I like Despines more, she's cuter I think.

Alt Aisen's main nerfing was decrease in Rampage Ghost damage and increased energy consumption. This made Twin Bird Strike more powerful than Rampage Ghost, which is fine for me because I've always liked Seolla and Arad's baka combo lol. Seolla's Rifle Mode W is also incredibly awesome, one of my favourite moves in all SRW, I had an adrenaline rush watching it for the first time and its still exciting watching it now.

Apothesized Ialdabaoth is top tier, but among all the brokenness of most of the cast, he doesn't seem too broken lol

At least Folka is the only pilot for the unit, Roa and Shouko has Soul and Awaken, Ryukooh has awaken and 2 pilots, plus its Ryukooh is almost indestructible. SRX has Awaken and 3 pilots, plus the most broken exploitable bug of all units, everytime you separate and tweak with their positions, you can move them into new spots. I have to admit I exploit it so much that sometimes I can get all units right to the enemies' doorstep on the second turn when everyone has 110 morale for Twin Battle System.

People should try that bug, split SRX, use R-2 or R-3 to Twin R-1. Recombine, SRX will appear on the spot of R-2 or R-3, split and repeat. This works the most efficiently with Huckebein MKIII and AM Gunner, who can exploit the same bug. This coupled with more surrounding units, you can pull R-1 into them and recombine. People should just try this for fun lol if they don't know about it, I've been using it since OG1. With this bug, there's no such thing as distance and range, you can get everything anywhere you want.

The most broken unit of SRW in all aspects is still Valzacard of SRWW, he is well and truly broken.

Currently, no one can surpass Alfimy and Latouni in my list, though. Alfimy, the first girl gave me the chill down my spine when playing a turn base strategy game. I'd go as far as saying she's the one lead me to loli world :heh:. Can't forget the nightmare in Impact, where she single handed one third of my team when we first met, yet I felt so excited seeing her stabbing each and each unit :heh:. Latouni follows Alfimy and hold the 2nd place, but I must say that's mainly thank to princess Shine and her gothic lolita dress. And to this day, Setsuko is added in third place, along with Ibis.
There is no end if I keep talking about the OG girl, really :p.

OG3 should include Natch, Abend (sp? I remember the name is different before, though) and Phantom. I've always been dying to see them in SRW title since OG Saga.

Oh btw, what happened with Gunleon's past ?

I thought for sure that Excellen wasn't going to be a favourite character the first time I've seen her. But after looking at her development and her personality deeper, I found her really. . cute :xGanleon is a mech found by Mail's father, Cielo Beater. He repaired the mech into a repair mech and started Beater Services.

After Rand joins Mail and her father Cielo Beater, they travelled around the world as Beater Services to repair stuff. Cielo always fought with Rand and eventually cured his hot temper that earned him his nickname 'The Crusher'. Everytime they fought, Mail would get upset and cry, but Cielo would do his trademark 'Heat Smile', a funny face that makes people feel a flush of heat from the outrageous expression. Everytime he does the Heat Smile, Mail would stop crying and start laughing instead.

Over time, Cielo has passed all his skills to Rand, including the Heat Smile, he now calls Rand 'The Heat', no longer The Crusher. The Heat Smile is not just a funny face for Mail, but also a warm sincere smile for customers and leaves a great impression on people. Mail also betroths herself to Rand, she calls him Darling, her father doesn't mind lol

One day while traveling, they were attacked by bandits, Rand went to fight with the bandits, but the caravan where Mail was in was destroyed by the bandits and Mail died on the spot. Rand brought Mail's body into the Gunleon, he was extremely anger and sad over her death, but then there was a flash of light. After the flash of light, he found that Cielo has disappeared, but more unbelievable was that Mail has came back to life.

After this incident, Mail had no memory of what happened, but Rand told her that they will find her father one day. Rand believes that it was his fault that the flash of light happened and caused Cielo to disappear, he also thinks that because he only cared about fighting the bandits that Mail died. He has hidden this from mail for 3 years and has been suffering over his own guilt. All these 3 years they've traveled as Beater Services while looking for Cielo. And during these 3 years, Mail didn't grow at all, even her hair showed no increase in length, she looks like a loli, everyone thought she was a child, but she's 16. Mail's greatest wish is to have larger boobs and wider hips lol and she also tells Rand that if she ever grew her hair below the shoulders, Rand must marry her.

But one day, Asakim finally reveals the truth to Mail, in order to trigger the guilt and suffering of Rand. Mail learns of the incident and finds out that she was already dead. The flash of light was actually the 'Sphere', from Ganleon, which reacted to Rand's anger and sadness and caused a space-time bending effect and brought them to some where else. But at the same time, actually felt Rand's sadness and gave his Sphere to Mail, giving Mail a new life.

Mail learns that because she's already a dead body, she cannot grow, which explains why she still looks loli after 3 years, and her hair never grew longer. Asakim expects Rand and Mail's relationship would be broken apart and Rand would succumb to his guilt and suffering.

But no, Rand accepts the truth and Mail forgives Rand, because it wasn't really Rand's fault that she died, and the fact that she's still alive, she is happy. She is instead grateful to Rand and Ganleon for giving her a new life and they should continue searching for her father instead. Ganleon instead of feeling the grief that Rand expressed over Mail's death, now it borrows power from the strength Rand had to overcome his own suffering. Mail forgave Rand and Rand overcame his over guilt, and Ganleon is no longer sad for them. Mail says, Rand is not just The Heat or The Crusher, he is ZA HIITO KURUSHA, he will overcome all suffering and crush all who brings suffering.

Anyway in the end, Mail's Sphere disappeared or somehow completely became Mail's life force. Mail started growing again, actually instantaneously giving her a growth she should have for the 3 years. Which Rand sees that even if she didn't die, she would still be looking like a loli, she would look the same as she was dead lol, just that she has long hair.

But Mail says it doesn't matter whether she has boobs, what's important is that her waist-length hair means that Rand definitely must marry her. Rand is a man of his word and he had always been Mail's Darling. They continue to travel the word to search for Cielo.Excellen is the hottest otaku to ever exist, she's like Konata except that she has an incredible figure.

I'll try to translate stuff, there's lots of great SRW quotes. But I won't guarantee I'll do them all lol, I haven't been translating stuff at the Sora Kake subforum, which I think caused some problems. Mainly is because I haven't been watching anime at all recently, I only got to episode 18 last week.

For the strongest SRW mech, I think its Valzacard from SRWW, that mech is literally god itself. It was created by the man who was god, powered by some magic circle from the bible, (Tetragrammaton Anaphaxeton, Primeumaton), and piloted by the family of god. And its the most broken unit in SRW ever.

In Alpha3, Dis Astranagant was feared by Keisar Ephes, for having the equal source of power. But Keisar Ephes is as strong as Irui GanEden and Ideon, the 3 of them forming a balance of powers over the galaxy. But even with their powers combined, they still lose to the power of Valzacard, which was part of the Universe's creation. Valzacard was created to bring order to the Universe, bring the Database under control, which governs the Universe.

I've always thought that the Database is extremely similar to the Data Overmind in Haruhi. The SRX team would be the Espers, Ryusei = Itsuki, Rai = Arakawa and Aya = Mori. Then the Time Travellers would be the Gureden twins Fiona and Raul. We have plenty of Sliders, Gilliam(Helios Olympus), Cobray etc.

And now we even have someone in place of Haruhi, Ji Edel Bernel, he can create anything or bring anything into reality, he's even as crazy or crazier than Haruhi.

And Valzacard didn't stop until after bursting the opponent into subspace, the sword continues to extend until the opponent bursts out of subspace lol. Baldios's Baldiroiser is something similar, stage 1 warps into the enemy itself, stage 2 Baldios warps the space around him along with the enemy and bring it out of the galaxy while the enemy implodes, one of the most beautiful attacks in SRWZ I think.

If Daizenger or Elzam are to solo stages, they will run out of EN or ammo, Daizengar has good armour but would probably get battered even before running out of EN, Elzam probably can stick around for some time by evading after running out of EN and ammo. Apotheosized Ialdabaoth has both speed and armour along with small hp and large EN regen, he probably won't get hit and even he gets hit, he'll just recover and has all the EN to kill everything.

Actually its evade wasn't all that good and there were stronger units in terms of damage either way Valzacard wasn't the only apocalyptic mech in W. Despite what people say about W being easy game the final boss was actually incredibly strong. Also Valarm storywise is meant to be an equal to Valzacard, a safety precaution basically in case something ever went wrong with Valzacard.

The most broken of the entire Valzacard is the exploitation of the seishin bug makes him truly omnipotent. Even if no bug is exploited, being able to choose seishin for Kazuma and Mihiro in a new game+ is a mega bonus.

Back in SRW Alpha 1, Ryukooh is about as broken as Valzacard, its almost invincible and does insane damage. Plus choosing birthdays can get both your main characters with the awesome SP Regen and also the most powerful seishin in SRW history 'Sacrifice', which does 4.5x damage. Sacrifice with Ryukooh basically means 1 hit KO for everything in the game.

The game is not the usual simulation RPG genre of SRW, instead you form 2 unit 'Groups' to fight against other Groups. You can play it 1 player or against your friends on wifi.

The story says you play as the 2 main characters who train in the Super Robo School through simulations of SRW mechs, to help them prepare against enemies in the future. With your BASE, BAttle Safety Electronics, you travel around to challenge other people with BASEs. Your BASE is what conducts the simulation battles, you need to improve and customise your BASE for battle. Winning and losing battles can improve or damage your BASEs.

Besides the entry titles, the rest are under construction lol

The model itself looks very nice, but needs painting in a few places. And because she's extremely tiny and delicate, you need to be careful posing her. Her arms are designed to have a small angle of movement, but she can still do cute and girly poses lol

When I've finally met him for the first time, I just got really tired after taking out his minions that I just place Ideon in his path and meticulously calculate the Id Meter until it was safe to fire the Ideon Sword that I release it coupled with Tamashii. Took him out with just that one single hit.

(BTW, this is not to say the Balmarians are pushover.) Well never played F or F Final but 4 was my first SRW and wow the game was so freaking hard! I don't remember much but damn the game frustrated me so much. It really wasn't hard because of the language as it was translated in Korean but because how the grunts were so strong compare to now. Also I kept on using Mazinger hoping that I would get Mazinkaiser later on but how wrong was I :heh:. And probably because of 4 I came to hate Dancougar, Combattler V, Votles V, Daimos, and Daitarn 3 as all one of them died so easily (though with the recent game I came to love Dancougar and Daitarn 3, but still hate the Robot Romance Trilogy units). To this day still haven't finished, I probably got to stage 40 or so.

Justine's mech is awesome, simply because it was the only other mech to have an attack that alters its base sprite. The claws open for the most powerful attack, which usually instant kills anything lol

The other mech with an attack that alters the sprite is Grungast, when you use Keitou Ragou Ken, the hand grabs the sword and rotates 90 degrees.

Seiyuu god Akira Kamiya voiced 5 characters in Alpha 3, he is in every SRW because of Getter Robo or any other of his many mecha roles.

Anyway in SRW, we love Midorikawa as Masaki Ando(Cybuster, Banpresto Original) more than Heero Yuy, they've appeared together in 2 games. And he offers to voice in SRW for free.
