epi-23:
There was a lot of interesting stuff about the named rocks and so forth.
Someone said earlier that was nice to give some of the other characters some screen time to develop. I agree. I like these characters, and it is nice to see at least a little more development of the "self-styled miko".
@Honey: Those pics are hilarious. Seems like Lin is drifting farther and farther away from masculine Lin, hmm :heh: . By the way, add me to your list of people emoing at the end of GH. We'll all pick a corner and share an extra large beach towel :D .
@LKK: I think your essay has just become GH's unofficial "OVA" :D . I can just see everyone from this thread rushing toward your LJ right when the ending credits begin to roll - at least, I certainly will. Looking forward to a good discussion at the end.
I am in a major Naru withdrawal. I can't believe they would do this to us Naru fans...have him sleep through practically all of the final arc. I hope they won't have him open his eyes right before the ending credits begin :twitch: . I will seriously need to hurt someone if that happened :frustrated: .
dream!Naru *sigh* ... at least you're there to ease my suffering.
As for gender...I think you all can guess mine :D - if not, there must be something wrong :uhoh: .
I don't think the anime will continue with a second season as long as the manga remains incomplete and behind the anime, because if the anime continues with the story by adapting from the novel it will give away the plot of the manga - then who will bother to buy the manga when you already know the ending. So I don't think the anime will continue after this - which just makes me cry :upset: . I'm guessing they probably have some kind of an open-ending that leads into the manga which will continue the story. I've seen some series doing that - and I can't stand it  .
*looks at my sig* Why does that image all of a sudden makes me so sad...?
I wonder what they're going to do about her rewriting the series. Do you think they'll rewrite the comics too? That would be pretty neat. If not, hey, more incentive for me to learn Japenese. Er. Learn MORE Japanese.

@honeysempai, uhm lin was not depressed, he was kinda like disturbed by the commotion...
bwahahaha!! poor lin... but hey, he looks good as a bunny!! :heh:
i need inspiration to make new images... hehehe :D
btw, about your poll, i think my siggy gives my gender away... :p
@jenx, you're very welcome! it was my pleasure... of course! i love all my fellow fangirls and fanboys! :D im using photoshop cs2 right now... you're gonna send me some? that would be great!! thanx!
lol, your gender really is complicated, but does it matter?
nyahaha! your NaruxYaru idea is intriguing... maybe i should make an icon of that pairing for you... lol! but i have to contemplate about that, i dont want my naru in yaoi... i want NaruxMai... and the other naru fans might kill me! :heh: but really, the idea of yaru kissing naru is pretty hilarious! im guessing everyone's reaction would be --> and :twitch: <--- :heh:
@bun, im also going into withdrawal!!! i cant stand it that naru is just lying there the whole time... i want my naru!!!! yes, thank kami that dream!naru is there...
a YasuxMai pairing? yah... that would be my second pick too... they're so cute, i duno why, i just can't quite put my finger to it...
@LKK, Sage is right, your essay has kinda like became GH's unofficial "OVA" haha! good luck on the essay, no pressure you say? boy... you are tough! :heh: anyway, im sure by the time ep 25 ends, everyone will hold their breath waiting for your essay to be posted...
@PreSage, yes, im also in a naru withdrawal state... *sigh*
now that you mention it, your sig is pretty depressing, its like hinting us of whats to come, NOOO!!!! NARU!!!!!! COME BACKKK!!!! its like im reaching out to him but cant seem to reach him (oh my, im getting emo) *sigh*
*sigh*
im so depressed right now, i wont be able to see my naru and tsukimori anymore when the time comes *cries*! amazing, bcoz of my deppressed state, i wasnt able to make my plates (plates in fine arts is what others will call activity or seatwork.. ie plate #1 = seatwork/activity #1) can you imagine that i didnt pass my finals plate, the plate before that, my window display project, soap sculpture of a human body, calendar project, and 4 other painting plates of jars!!! omg! the deadline is tomorrow! im dead!
hmm... this is another long post...
*crawls to a dark corner and sulks*
Gender: female :) I am not telling the age hehehehe
As I heared one novel is finished so I was hoping for an ova if there is not enough material for a nother season. They could explain some things - I allready know some things 'cause I was asking people, but I would like to see that, not only hear about it :)
I am really sad... I am used to open endings when is about love and romance...but this kind of things could be answered: They are living us with too much questions and no answers. I don't think I will get answers from the last episode.

now im kinda worried that Sage might be right that they are ending it with an open ending then continued by the mangas... *sigh* but hope they do end it with all the blanks filled in...
btw, i just read a fanfic on ghost hunt! i gotta admit it was good... i was laughing my head off after the 3rd chapter! :heh: the title is "Shades of Lust" and it was posted by akinarei at LJ... i wasted a few hrs infront of my pc and still havent done my schoolwork! argh!
oh yeah, for those curious about that fanfic here are the links
Chapter one: Unusual circumstances (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3425147/1/)
Chapter two: File one: a new case. (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3425147/2/)
Chapter three: a question of ethics (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3425147/3/)
i think the story took place after the Blood-Stained Labyrinth arc... its quite nice, it took me out of my naru withdrawal for a while... :p
*glances at schoolwork(s)*
i better get started then... *sigh*
I skimmed the fic and I gotta say, that's good writing. =D
...I have got to find time today to watch the sub of 23. Really, I do.
Also, Sapphire- awesome, I have CS2 too, so the brushes will definitely be compatible. Can I get your email adress or something?
So, knowing is your sin. :) Now I understand why you are already yearning for a follow on. Hey, may be J.C. Stuff will adapt the novel for a 2nd season instead of waiting on the manga version to catch up where the novel is at the moment!? This production company is very well capable considering its credential.
Knowing is a sin?
I've known from the very beginning that there was more GH beyond the manga. The whole reason I decided to watch the anime in the first place was because I hoped it would take the story to the parts not covered by the manga. In that regard, I'm disappointed in the series.
I've been yearning for a follow on for a very long time.

Well, everyone needs to wait until the credits roll on the subbed version not the raw. I'm holding off until the sub is released so that I can make last minute changes based on what the sub dialogue reveals. In other words, don't expect the essay next week!

The Ghost Hunt novel series consists of 10 books. When the current arc ends, novels 1 through 6 will have been covered. Books 7 and 8 consist of a single case that takes 2 books to tell. Books 9 and 10 are the same way, one case that spans 2 books. There is enough material in the novels for at least a 13 episode season, I would guess. A full 26 episode season would require using anime-only fillers.

Now that is news to me.
It seems like alot of the best shows have novels behind them rather than manga.
Hrm, I'm tempted to start the ghost hunt novels, but I still have over ten volumes of shana to plow through....

@ jenx, it's nice isn't it? there are also other fanfics i read, i posted the links in LJ, but i preferred that one, tho the others were also good and aiming for those NaruxMai supporters(including myself)... i was even close to squealing in one of those fanfics, naru and mai had a son, yes thats right! a son... haha! *imagination runs wild* :D title:"Like his dad"... too bad its not done yet... :p
yey! compatible... ok, ok! i'll just pm you my email ad
Knowing is a sin?
You know, how ignorance can be a bliss. Then perhaps, knowing is a sin too?? :uhoh: It's derived from my own weird sense of logical interpretation that I'm usually struck by late at night. I know, I got nothing. :o

If I understand you correctly, the series has covered 6 books which roughly translates to a about 4 episodes per book. If there was to be a second season, then the show could have about 16 episodes, as in, a little bit more than a single season worth of material. That's going to hurt the chances of seeing another follow-on any time soon though it is very well possible to squeeze things into 13-14 episodes. On the other hand if the story hasn't reached any resolution, then a single season follow up shouldn't be expected. And if the books are selling well, then the author may not give away the conclusion to the overall mystery any time soon. (At least, that's my pessimistic view on why popular manga/novels take so long to reach a conclusion.) Yeap, the chances of seeing a follow-on anime adaptation any time soon is indeed bleak. Then again, you've already reached a similar conclusion several pages back in regards to the possible 2nd season.
I've been yearning for a follow on for a very long time.
Here is to hoping you will come to know the final mystery soon enough and will keep us informed.
Omg, 10 novels!? I didn't realize there were so many! Dammi~t, the possobilities! What could happen in those last few books that I'll never get to read!
DX I have GOT to learn more Japanese.
...Anyways, eeeeh, I hate Naru and Mai too much to read alot of GHG fanfiction. Which makes me sad. But I read stuff that has the whole cast in it, just... not so much on the ones only about Naru and Mai. MAYBE if they include Lin too.

This has been mentioned before but books 9 and 10 arent written from Mai's pov like the first 8 books are so if that was ever made into an anime it be a bit different from the style we've seen so far but at this point I just want 7 & 8 to be animated and then 9 & 10 later on :D

@jenx, oh yeah... i forgot about your i-dont-like-mai thing... hehehe :p but you gotta admit tho, the fanfic "shades of lust" was cute... it didnt focus on the pair, but its too early to tell... i totally agree, i nd to learn more jap, i need to find that reviewer of my aunt's... she studied japanese before coz she married one... hmm... maybe i should try and contact her to send me goodies? nah... my mom would just kill me... XD ey, whatever happened to the brushes you promised me? hehehehe
@manju, if thats the case, then is there a possibility that it wouldn't be as thrilling? or maybe would still be the same but just someone else's POV?

@Xellos - ah the Masako fanboys can dream cant they XD
@sapphire- ummmmm I dont know, I know very little about what goes on in the last 2 novels, I have a basic knowledge of the story line. As far as I know and Sensei can back me up on this, I believe 9 & 10 are just written in straight up 3rd person so its no ones POV...as for thrilling, dunno but I dont think Ono-sensei would let us down there :D
Epi 23
Interesting Masako has been to America....
Btw have we yet to find out why John could exorcise the spirits from the little girl and the guy in the hospital but not Naru...did I miss that part?
Masako was called by the American SPR (doesn't stand for the same SPR Naru made).
As for the reason why no one attempted to exorcise Naru...
They don't want to take risks of failure. A person who has a strong sense of self like Shibuya-san (:p) should be very difficult to possess in the first place (part of the reason why people thought the ghost escaped through Naru rather then possessing him). Once a person like Naru is possessed it will be very difficult to remove the said ghost. And Lin has hinted how dangerous Naru is... so John hasn't attempted for this reason.
Don't remember if that was in the anime. Stuff here and there was cut from this case.
That just reminded me of the side 4Koma in the manga.
Poor Lin-kun.
Scene: Guy waving the knife at the inn's dinning room
Naru- Lin take care of him
Lin - *looks at Naru* (...but he's armed with a knife)
Naru - *glare*
Lin - ...
Another one:
Scene: The Maze House
Naru - *ordering everyone to do what* Lin, you stay here
Lin - ...
(hours later)
Lin - ...

Yeah, you did mention that. And I haven't stepped over to the dark side yet; so for me, it will be after the subbed ending credit rolls. However, having said that, I don't think I'll be able to wait that long. Thinking...yup...I guess I will cross over next week...have to see 25...can't wait that long for the sub version - I guess I'll join everyone and watch 25 raw (my first and last GH raw :D ).

It was. Lin indicated that he didn't want anyone to try exorcising Naru until they knew the name of the spirit. Incidentally, the reaction of the spirits to Ayako's papers strong indicates her power is genuine even if it isn't quite equal to the ability of the other exorcists. Oh, and now that I've watched 23, I agree with Bou-san. Yes, Mai did have to exorcise the boy to save his life, but she nearly killed him in the process, and the only reason why she was in that situation was because she forced the confrontation with the possessed kids.

This episode was great. The fansubbers are taking way too long. I can't wait for the next episode. I want to see more of Naru chan. It is really funny watching everyone trying to figure out what to do without Naru. Does anyone know what Mai is? What kind of psychi is she?

Actually compared to when the series first started, the fansubbers are alot faster XD

She has latent sensitivity ESP so her intution is usually good but since Naru's explanation of that back in epi 10 she's grown to more of a......well....she's had out of body experiences, spirits possess her and past life dreams...so really I dont know Naru would classify her as now...but she's still has ESP its just grown since it first manifested in her which is common I hear with cases like this.
Edit: I see Impz lurking in this thread!! Tell me you have a blog!!!
I have been wondering....... can somebody jumped into the water, drowned and surfaced within seconds?
Or should I forgive cos it's the-series-has-to-end-fast thingy?
Eh thinking back, remembering earlier the episode there was Naru and Mai fallen into a 'man-hole'. And that time, Naru was assuring the frightened Mai with his magic coin (pet). Didn't he had the same gentle expression as dream!Naru? :eyebrow:
*embarrassed, I am writing my entry like right now since ermm, my priorities have shifted a bit and some of my precious time (much) is now ermm taken by someone important. However, I am writing the entry now and it will be out soon :)

Yeah, I think they handled this fairly well.
There was some real question about Ayako's ability, but she proved herself in this last arc, even if she isn't the strongest of the group, she did dislodge the "fox-spirit", and the charms obviously are having a reaction.
Oh, and now that I've watched 23, I agree with Bou-san. Yes, Mai did have to exorcise the boy to save his life, but she nearly killed him in the process, and the only reason why she was in that situation was because she forced the confrontation with the possessed kids.
I know what you and Bou-san mean, but really,
would it have been better to let those kids kill someone else? It was only by confronting them that they discovered the brakes had been tampered with. Also, provoking the spirit possessing the other woman -- at least I assume that is what is happening at the end -- adds to the danger in a sense, but would you rather have her possession go unknown? IMO Mai is totally justified. Better to take action with horrible results than sit on your ass and let horrible results happen. Now if she will just grab the other bull by the horns. :innocent:
hahaha, i guess so, honeysempai ^^

Me too, I want to join the irc spolier chat. Hello everyone. I don't think I've ever posted here, but I've been reading what everyone is saying, been keeping up with the anime, and the manga thats been released here. I'm so sad that this show is going to end so soon. What I don't get is why japan wants to make anime out of a manga that hasn't been completed yet, like loveless if anyone has seen that and read the manga. Cause then there are all these unansered questions, and you never know if they'll ever answer them or not. (Now to figure out how to work the irc getting past the logging in and !list part hopefully I wont break it with my breaking skillz).

Well, I can't say you are totally wrong, but you are not totally right either. The anime is based on manga, but the manga is based on novel. At last arc of series one of the novel(there are two GH novel series to date) has most questions answered. But given only one more ep to go and the last arc is the longest one, it cannot be told in anime. It is a werid thing, isnt it? They have the answers but dont want to share with us. Fortunately, we have heard about some rumor the novel author is going to pick up GH and write some more, we can hope to see a second season GH anime.

Thanks for the blog Impz!!
@Jenx: the first 8 novels which make up the current manga/anime are from Mai's pov, the last 2 are written in 3rd person. I cant say why at the moment but there is a break btwn the two novel sets. Why Ono-sensei decided to write then 2nd set is 3rd person, I dont know.
Just for the record, Shinsen has finally released their subs for both episodes 22 & 23 respectively.

@honeysempai, if you read the off topic post of Impz at page 72, then you would know who Impz's special someone is... ;)
@Impz, thanx for the summary... :D
@lsjulee, i was wondering about that too... i mean, i think it wasn't that high, unless of course it was shallow and you hit the rocks below...
@herbert, this one of mai reminded me of that awful scene, while i was watching i really thought "ouch! thats got to hurt!", and in that scene it seemed like mai was hit more than the others, but then again maybe she appeared on screen more than the others did giving me that impression...

ey bun, about those cookies at the dark side... :D
finally i am able to breath, the worst part of my schoolwork is done! now all i have to do is make 6 paintings and 5 anatomy charcoal sketches! i didnt get any sleep yesterday bcoz of that stup!d calendar project and window display project which was so hard to make! those 6 paintings and 5 sketches sounds like heaven to me... i'm sorry, i'm ranting off topic here... i was just frustrated from all those projects...
@ Bun: Aawww! I want to join your IRC chat too but I can't get IRC. Well...I'll just wait for the discussion in LJ. Hopefully, many of you will be there at the end of 25 sub.
But I'm really going to miss this GH thread of ours. It's been so fun chatting with everyone. Hopefully there'll be another series that would gather many of those here together again later. I joined this forum just to chat on GH and Corda; so I know I'll be back into lurker mode for a while, until I find another worthwhile series that would force me into post-mode again.

i agree :)
the fact that the boy would have died anyway if mai didnt save his possessed ass id say that mai did a right thing for trying anyway ~ if she did kill him then so be it...but doing nothing would not be right given that there could be a chance for her to save him ~
wow thx for the summary impz :D (will read when ive watched the raw hehe)
I still agree with Bou-san. The situation wouldn't even have come up if Mai had just let the kids go, got someone to check out the car, and then dealt with the kids when they WEREN'T on the edge of the ocean.
Oh, also- have some fanfiction. =D Here you go. (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3455022/1/) Just a little drabble. I'll be writing something chaptered soon though.

I unfortunately haven't had the chance to watch the first two eps of this arc yet. I'd like to say "Appy urpay!" to honeysempai, though.

hahaha, i guess so, honeysempai ^^
Anyway, Episode 24 summary + thoughts (http://that.animeblogger.net/2007/03/22/ghost-hunt-ep-24-monks-dissidents-and-possession/) is up in my blog :P
Cheers to all ^_^
just watched the ep and this summery absolutly saved my butt :heh:
so a group of mismatched spirits are causing all the trouble ~ dam them! they made Lin bleed! :frustrated:
Nanao is unable to rest in peace...so it seems to be that this is part of the curse of whoever dies in that area...their spirit is trapped for all eternity and therefore they soon become corrupt...and holy crap did the "attack of the zombies" part scared me :heh:
lets hope that naru can do something about this...seeing mai and the others get slashed is painful >.<

Thanks waffo!
I think ill join you Manjubun! Everyone should wear black for the rest of these days!
I'd wear black if it weren't 90 degrees out. Southern weather, what? But I'll mourn in my own special way. Which probably will involve alot of fics and abusing our new TV to watch old episodes.
...One of my rats is black? Does that count for mourning colurs? I could just walk around with Buddha on my shoulder all day! =D
Wow, I liked the show but...wow. I mean ...come on.
I'm joking. =_= I'm not REALLY going to walk around with a rat on my shoulder for a week in honor of a TV show ending. That would be illogical.
Joojoobees
2007-03-24, 21:24
Plus it would be cruel to the rat. He might want to sleep!
My verdict for this episode is that was HELL in every context of the world.
I also have always been wondering what would the Ghost Hunters team be faring without Naru? An the episode straightforwardly displays, that the case is collapsing out of the SPR team's control and unable to prevent the deaths.
Honestly, I am astonished with the top-notch level of animation quality employed, particularly at the horror scenes.
For a split of a second a faint jitter with cold shook off my stomach the moment that the first zombie creature zoomed out its head onto the panel of the window.
That shot and former one of the doll's head spinning in the second case really messed me up with a good fright.
In addition, Mai shots captivated me the most since I felt she looked very adult which got my interest. She and Masako tie as the cutest and most charming female characters for Ghost Hunt in my list.
In regards to the episode itself, I admit that I became lost and was dumbfounded. I could not even formulate a clear hypothesis, since the way that things messed up from different angles it became hard to me pick on solid suspicion.
Therefore, I am relying with the conclusions and speculations that Impz kindly posted for the episode at his/her blog, and seriously, I wouldn't never ever have imagined whose fault it was since the case presents different kinds of vengeful spirits that have their individual reasons as to torment the inhabitants.
The three mystics who paid their pilgrimages are the chosen culprits, unless the last episode develops a surprise twists that turns upside down the whole theory.
The mystics possessed while alive powerful skills, magic, and knowledge on sorcery and exorcism. It is not farfetch'd to conclude that they were the ones who disrupted the harmony that stood between the rest of the spirits.
Was it for revenge? ... Probably. The village head was a greedy bastard who disposed all of them to steal their Buddha statue.
But then, there is quite an epiphany which struck my head on the records that Yasuhara relayed to the group.
The mystic men general helped the village what came in terms of exorcisms and ghost hunting. But then, why the mystics pressed on to the village head to change the village's former guardian statue to that of a golden buddha?
Usually, if a job is done out of good will where neither greed nor a material crave is involved is because the person who delivers the job possesses a strong sense of commitment to help those who are in need or for the general welfare.
But the mystics who urged to replace the statue at the village, I felt that they attempted to impose their conditions. If they helped the village to rid of mischievous spirits, it was not for a sense of altruism or for the general welfare of the people but to make the whole village be indebted to them. In that manner they could have manipulated the people to rely soley on them and place their belief systems and traditions against the public's will.
However, they were slained by the village's head. But he could not ever fathome that the spirits of those men lived on to wreak chaos, cursing the manor were the other chains of calamities happened afterwards.
The question in case the theory about the three-sixth is proven correct is who freed the spirits of those three? or maybe is it possible that the three-sixth were so powerful that they were never sealed and just remain sleeping by at time intervals?
And why is it that all the spirits want Naru?; what is it that Naru has which the spirits covet?
I think that as Naru explained to Mai in the psychic dream is that the spirits want to be guided into the light so as to reincarnate, that is their wish. The three-sixth have trapped them all inside a vicious cycle of despair, hatred, and murder so as they will never leave the earthly bound which chains them all and will continue to possess the inhabitants to either reenact the circumstances of their deaths or to vent their wrath into the living, adding more unfortunate souls into their ranks.
This case reached the climax, and the conclusion will come at the last episode next week.
I do really liked how they set up the cliffanger which made me nervous and fearful about the fate of the Ghost Hunters, since the episode ended with all of them trapped and cornered in a tight spot.
I was very angry that the opening was skipped or did not appear at the start of the episode, but I quickly made my mind towards the end.
It was absolutely brilliant and purely fantastic that the music from the opening played when the zombies started to crawl inside while Mai and the others fended them off with all what they got but were quickly overwhelmed by the invincible force which was slashing and battering the Ghost Hunters.
The manner on how they are leaving the clues and puzzle hints so as for us to picke them up and build our own speculations has been so entertainful, that I was reminded of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni.
@ PsychicOtaku
Girls are bold. Depression or not, I dont have the gut going into a haunted house if not necessary. I mean I know it is sad GH anime near to its end, especially there are lots of novel materials yet to be shown. But it is not the end of world, we still can hope a 2nd season, cannt we? And you may read some Charles de Lint's books, which are somewhere similiar to GH, at least I feel that way.
@ Bun & honey
Go ahead and do it. Just do it. I like girls in black, I think I have said that, havent I?
BTW honey, you are girl, right? I know Bun is a lady but I am not 100% sure about you.

Perhaps you can keep several rats, and ask who is awake and want a ride when you need a rat on your shoulder.

You are right, definitely. Mai getting more harm then others is simply a by-product of too much screen-time, now she is paying. She deserves it. (From an evil Masako fanboy)

Hello. I've been a lurker in this forum, especially this thread for a looooooooooong a time.
I love Ghost Hunt sooo much! Anyway, I love reading spoilers because they usually make me more interested in this series. Aside from that, in my country (haleine_sapphire, we're kababayans), GH isn't very popular --- both the anime and the manga because fansubbed / unlicensed series aren't the "in" thing (save for naruto and bleach) for the general Pinoys. As a result GH resources are very limited that's why I'm very grateful for this thread.
It's just a shame that I registered here when the anime itself has only one episode left. Sigh.
P.S.
I'm a supporter of NaruxMai tandem.

I'll post some of my stuff up too...soon. Right now, I'm up to my neck with three major projects due by the middle of April...gah!...school :dead:
Personally, I don't want to look for ghosts. It isn't that I'm afraid of them (really  ) but it's more of my principle to avoid things you don't understand because you don't know what uncontrollable troubles you might stir up. Unless, of course, you're our all-knowing, buffed-up confident Naru...then I would think the ghosts would fear you because they don't know what uncontrollable troubles you might stir for them :heh: .
So...are we expecting that Naru wakes up and save the day on this last episode? It might hurt his ego if he doesn't :heh: .

I won't do it again, at least not in front of those Mai-fans like you who can send shiki. Horror moives do not scare me, but real ghosts and something like do. I just didn't(or I rather to say "don't") pay too much attention to ppl's genders, so when I talked about "girl in black", I just wondered if I really knew about honey's gender and what if I got wrong...

I think Masako is a really great rival for Mai. So often the rival is just appealing due to having more curves, but Masako is truly beautiful, and classy. She is also powerful in her own way.
I love the interactions between the two, and both Mai and Masako's reactions when one of them scores points. :D
I vote for 24 more episodes of Mai and Masako fighting it out!

I actually don't like Bou-san's clothes often. XD I like his skull shirts but that's pretty much it. But I'll give him credit for creativity. Ayako, however, gets the award for best dressed. Except when she wears turtlenecks.
...and Herbert... that's pretty awesome. <3
Know what would be a real shocker? If the show's writers decided to end the series with their own version and have them all get killed in 25 by Lucifer himself! That would be interesting. Seeing John's Catholic exorcism against Lucifer....

Thanks to Shadow Dreams I've just watched episode 24 with plenty of lights on. The most notable thing about this arc and the last one is that both of these arcs have people dying in the present. Prior to those arcs, the deaths occured in the past. It has made things much more exciting. Will be eagerly waiting for episode 25 raw as I don't think I'll be able to stand the suspense till the subs are cooked or baked.

you'll miss it until season two. or ghost hunt live action. whichever the producers aim for first.
I lifted this from my blog to answer monir's question :)
Since then, it seemed that the head of the family was often cursed and they rumored it was the malicious spirit of the band of mystic man. Bou-san said that it was a group of three mystic men of the “sixth group”. The “sixth group” was a pilgrimage of sixty six spiritual sites that these men travel around to and those people were known to be part of the “sixth group”.
I wish my 24 sub would download faster. Then I'd have some vague clue what you all are talking about. D=

Where did you read that the series is ending at episode 24? From animedb it results there are 26 episodes...
No. DX There are 25. Originally there were 26, but one got cancelled. There are NO plans for an OVA, live action, movie, or second season, and there probably will not be, since the anime is based very closely off the manga, which it will be caught up to after episode 25 later today.

hmm... i couldn't quite picture her in any instrument... thats why i didn't do any photo manip of her with one, i was planning on a violin, but well... it would be like la corda already, so i resisted the urge to continue... :D
i still can't get over this manip...
id say he looks devilishly handsome in this suit and the atmosphere is so fitting for naru... when i first saw tsuki in that pic, everything just screams NARU! (with a little help of photoshop that is)

Wow! I just watched episode 24 and the series really seems to be going out on a high note. I really like the way the intensity has built over the course of the series. Many people complained about the first case because it didn't have any actual ghosts, but I had a feeling the series was just pacing itself.
I thought I would check out this series despite some folks talking smack about it, and I am really glad that I did. Anyone who doesn't watch it is just missing out.

I love that manip of Naru playing the violin. I think Tsukimori will be jealous at how good Naru looks in that get up - everything just suits him. Dang! He's hot!!! Whoot!
Downloading 25 right now...and crying at the same time. I can't believe this is the last episode. Someone said the show still has so much potential...I totally agree. Even with this last arc, you can feel there's still so much more than can write/animate about. Even if it doesn't follow the manga, there's still so many ideas and loose ends to fill that they could have dragged this series to another twenty or more episodes, I feel. Why...why oh why did they have to end it on 25? :upset: *wails like a baby*
I'm going back and downloading all the episodes. Although it's scary sometimes, Naru is for keeps! Does anyone suggest whether ShadowDreams or ShinsenSubs is the better sub to save?

OK here's my thoughts on 25
Pros: They followed the manga
Cons: They followed the manga
Let me explain....JC did an excellent job sticking to the manga in the last few arcs problem is that nothing about Naru is explained in the manga so far. So......hopefully this means 2nd season!!!
And Naru uses his pk.....that was a fangirl buffet...herbert Im pming you with my gif req now!!!
So does the manga follow the novels are are the completely different?
So does the manga follow the novels are are the completely different?
The manga follows the novels fairly closely. There are occasional scene changes, but no major rewrites or anything.

Just finished watching 25...*still dazed from watching AWESOME KICKASS Naru using his AWESOME KICKASS ESP powers* WHOOOTTTT!!!!!
That was what I was so anxiously waiting to see...that one scene where Naru goes all bright and beautiful and hardline to use his ESP powers. I love how they showed him powering up and all the electric static surrounding him. My mind's all excited and in a jumble so I'm probably typing run-on sentences and grammerless text...don't mind me :heh: .
I love Lin's soft expression in the last scene with Mai in front of the ICU room.
And Naru was totall our beloved ALL CONFIDENT Naru in this episode!
So whenever Naru uses his ESP power he goes to the ICU :twitch: ...so does that mean he also used his ESP powers when he and Mai fell down the manhole? That would explain it!
Edit: Thought Mai with her temper could go wild relieving her frustration on Naru on the drums :D

Talking about black + Naru. I extract this from the manga.
This was when Hoshi took over after Naru was down. Read from right to left.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v251/lsjulee/naru2.jpg

Mai : You should have replied the same way as Naru would.

If the question is asked, who have been pretty useless at exorcising ghosts and spirits in Naru’s gang through out the series, I guess we point our finger at Ayako. We can also point our finger at Mai, but since she can make tea, her uselessness can be overlooked. Plus, she has been punished more than anybody by her own guilt for being so quick to judge in these couple of arcs. Then again,
The highlight of the episode is none other than Ayako herself. I’m not kidding. Yes, Naru did some flashy thingy once he woke up from his deep slumber, but the credit entirely belongs to Ayako for waking him up to initiate the DBZ moment. Let me go back a bit to paint a picture as to why Ayako was the star..
Monk-san puts up a barrier of some sort to drive off the attacking zombies. The gang then retreats back to their base of operation after facing more obstacle. In the next morning Monk-san quickly surmises that they will have to tackle the root of this zombie problem by exorcising those three graves for those three monks who were killed. ( see ep 24 for details) Monk-san and the sexy priest choose themselves for the job even though they aren’t sure they can pull it off, especially considering they are physically beat up for taking so much physical punishment while fending of those unruly zombies. Ayako is quick to make the similar observation in her usual curt attitude. She offers to do the exorcising herself to everyone’s incredulity. Mai voices everyone’s concern and she assures Mai by stating, she is a Miko-san after all even if she doesn’t act like it. Boy does she proves it… and not to mention she looks mighty fine in the Miko get up.
http://content.imagesocket.com/thumbs/snapshot200703272243472a3.jpg (http://imagesocket.com/view/snapshot200703272243472a3.jpg) http://content.imagesocket.com/thumbs/snapshot20070327224630414.jpg (http://imagesocket.com/view/snapshot20070327224630414.jpg) http://content.imagesocket.com/thumbs/snapshot20070327224659570.jpg (http://imagesocket.com/view/snapshot20070327224659570.jpg)
After an elaborate ritual of exorcising, Ayako drags all the misguided spirits near to those three grave stones and manages to cleanse all the spirit, including the three monks who have been causing so much havoc by manipulating the ghosts of all those people that were killed by them. Along with me, everyone in the screen is mighty impressed. And everyone also wants to know that if she has been so strong to begin with, why hasn’t she become more useful in the past cases. Mai provides a few references and instances from the past. Ayako, of course, explains out of her way. Then the real question is asked by Mai that if all the ghosts/bad-spirits have been exorcised?
“Not yet,” says Ayako.
There is one left that is not exactly a ghost, and it is by far the strongest. Monk-san concludes it’s Masashiku Ebisu who is residing in Okubou-sama (the branch in the shrine that is supposedly similar to the Buddha’s statue). They go back to their base. Look who is up!!? It’s Naru. When Ayako successfully cleansed those spirits after gathering them near those stones, her spells also pulled out the ghost that took over Naru. Ayako wants Naru to show some gratitude toward her who unselfishly helped rid of his ghost-problem by forgetting many of her grudges she has been holding for various mistreatment by Naru. Naru is completely indifferent and ignores the waiting crowd. Mai and Ayako are disturbed. Monk-san slowly tells Naru that the culprit behind all these ghost problem in this case might be something other than a ghost. To everyone’s surprise, Naru observes that its Okubou-sama. Mai wants to know how Naru knows. Naru succinctly answers that his intellectual prowess is far above that those gathered in front of him. :heh: He explains how he has reached the similar conclusion without doing any of the manual labor.
http://content.imagesocket.com/thumbs/snapshot200703272250091e3.jpg (http://imagesocket.com/view/snapshot200703272250091e3.jpg) http://content.imagesocket.com/thumbs/snapshot20070327225252bbd.jpg (http://imagesocket.com/view/snapshot20070327225252bbd.jpg)
They go to the shrine in that cave to exorcise the final boss-spirit-thingy. Everyone fails one by one. Naru disdainfully asks Monk-san if that is his limit. That pisses of Mai big time who let Naru have a earful. Naru’s gang slowly goes on the retreat. They don’t notice that Naru isn’t following them. Naru powers up. Mai notices and goes back to get Naru. When she tries to grab his arm, she gets an electric discharge to dispel her attempt to grab him. Naru continues to power up. Fire starts glowing at his arm. He says ka-me-ha-me-ha, and releases the fireball at Okubou-sama. End result is the Okubou-sama is completely destroyed along with the strong residing spirit thingy inside. The cave is completely cleansed and it is confirmed by Masako who can’t sense any more spirit particles in the surrounding area. Job well done. They make the heroes exit with their main hero in black coat following behind. Naru falls.
Naru is taken to the hospital. Lin soothes the overly agitated Mai by explaining that Naru has an extraordinary gift since he was little. The problem is his power puts a huge strain on his body when he uses it. That's why Naru is in the hospital. Mai breaks down and regrets for saying all the bad things to Naru in the cave. Mr. Lin continues to soothe her.
http://content.imagesocket.com/thumbs/snapshot200703272301292e6.jpg (http://imagesocket.com/view/snapshot200703272301292e6.jpg) http://content.imagesocket.com/thumbs/snapshot20070327230149010.jpg (http://imagesocket.com/view/snapshot20070327230149010.jpg)
I think Lin should adopt Mai as his daughter. :D Mai can use a good guardian who can teach her how not to be so quick to judge.
I’ve got the gist of things from the episode but I’ll still need to watch a sub to fill the void in my understanding which I’ve carefully omitted in my overview above. :p Will make further comment on how this episode has wrapped things up later when more fans have finished watching the episode.

Actually it probably has nothing to do with anyone being slow, what Naru does isnt referenced well in the anime and even hard to find in the manga but here's the explanation and Ill tag it just incase ppl dont want to know yet...
Ok we all remember Mai and Naru falling down the sewer...in the manga after they fall Mai looks over a big pile of rock and debris and says "Im glad we didnt fall onto that." Actually they would have, Naru used his pk power to blast the rock out of the way. Since pk puts stress on Naru's body he later collapsed.

I asked because I thought: "Ok the manga is ended, but they can make more anime episodes basing the story directly on the novels". So people saying "there won't be anymore because the manga is ended" could be wrong.
Ah anyway: what are Naru's power? Telekinesis and telepathy?
Ah anyway: what are Naru's power? Telekinesis and telepathy?
I'm going to spoiler button this even though by now most everyone knows the biggies.
Naru has two major powers.
1) PK-ST. Psychokinesis on stationary objects.
We see him use PK-ST to bend and break the spoon, clear the debris in the sewer (not very obvious in the anime, more so in the manga), and of course later on.
2) Psychometry. The ability to read the past by touching objects.
This power is harder to see in the anime. In the Forbidden Game arc (ep 14) when Yasuhara takes Naru, Mai, & Bou-san to the smelly classroom, watch Naru's hands very closely. You'll see that as he walks through the classroom, he touches several students' desks along the way. (It's more obvious in the manga panels.) He's taking psychometric readings as he passes through the room. Then Naru suddenly asks if the students have done anything unusual in the classroom. A summoning perhaps? He's seen a vision of the students playing the summoning game kokkuri-san through his visions.
Remember in the Urado arc when Naru had Masako's comb with him? The most likely reason why Naru fetched Masako's comb is that he wanted to try a psychometric reading on the comb in the hopes that he could learn something about her disappearance.
3) Naru also has some other lesser limited telepathic powers that aren't demonstrated.
They're talked about in the novels and are very limited in how Naru can use them. PK-ST and psychometry are his two important and extremely powerful paranormal powers.
Oh, and he really is very, very smart. :D
I asked because I thought: "Ok the manga is ended, but they can make more anime episodes basing the story directly on the novels". So people saying "there won't be anymore because the manga is ended" could be wrong.
Ah anyway: what are Naru's power? Telekinesis and telepathy?
I would think both. TK since he is able to move objects and destroy them. TP since he can pick up images of objects he touches as well as communicate with his some-of-you-know-who before others-may-know-what happened :D.
The one thing I was a bit surprised is the lack of surprise from the others when they saw Naru power-up :heh: - when before, the mere "fact" that he was able to bend spoons gave them all such a shock. And now...he goes all bright and static and blasts the shrine with a "fireball" and all I sense from them is ... oh the spirits are gone, okay all done :twitch: .Maybe the shock from the spoon bending was too much to relive again? :heh: But then I could have missed it since I understood zilch of what they were saying  .
I can't believe the anime left out two very large questions about Naru unanswered. His real identity could be forgiven in light of the fact that the anime didn't address it very obviously but the one regarding dream!Naru was a definite frustration! Although I know the answers now, thanks for a good discussion with LKK, Bun and Honey but anime-wise they should have at least answered that (but then I guess they couldn't answer that without having to answer Naru's identity). However, since dream!Naru played a rather "large" and obvious role in the entire series, leaving that mystery unanswered left a rather large hole in the end.

Does anyone have an idea how I can send her a thank you note? I only know her work through anime adaptations, but have really enjoyed both 12 Kingdoms and now Ghost Hunt. I would love to be able to send a short letter stating my appreciation, even if I can't express it in Japanese.

Okobou-sama is the portion of the tree branch placed inside the shrine because it supposedly similar to the form of a Buddhist statue. Episode 24 explains it in detail by exploring the background history behind how it came to be. The explanation is given around 16:50 to 19:00 in Shadow-Dreams' version of the episode.

*Delurks* Hee... I'm only a level 2 Japanese student, but if you want to PM me your fan letter once you write it, I could take a crack at translating? I always need practice! :D
And since anything I say at this point would be pretty redundant, I'll just join the crowd of "SECOND SEASON PLZ" people. Or at least an OVA, since there's not a huge amount of material beyond "Noroi no Ie."
Also, since we were deprived of Ghost Hunt: Swimsuit Edition, I have the urge to write a fic. Oh dear.

I see. I see. In that case, let us both hold hands and weep for we are both in the same boat. :heh: Perhaps, LKK will be kind enough to tell us about that explanation Naru gave to the standing/sitting crowd right after he informed them how huge his cranium capacity really is compared to them.

[QUOTE=White Manju Bun;879255]
[spoiler=sewer scene explained....]Ok we all remember Mai and Naru falling down the sewer...in the manga after they fall Mai looks over a big pile of rock and debris and says "Im glad we didnt fall onto that." Actually they would have, Naru used his pk power to blast the rock out of the way. Since pk puts stress on Naru's body he later collapsed.
ohhh yeah that wasn't at all explained, thank you! :)
!!! *realization*
Is that why when, at the end of the arc, Mai mentioned Naru's spoon-bending abilities, Lin got so upset? Or does it not drain Naru when he uses
PK-ST for spoonbending?
@Sage - U silly! lol Naru the charmer =)
NeptuneBlue
2007-03-28, 21:56
I think it was because Lin doesn't want Naru to use any kind of powers, and he must have good reasons. Spoon bending couldn't be exhausting for his body. The rock thing must be so.
!!! *realization*
Is that why when, at the end of the arc, Mai mentioned Naru's spoon-bending abilities, Lin got so upset? Or does it not drain Naru when he uses

Spoon-bending doesn't put too much of a strain on Naru compared to other PK-ST uses like moving the rubble in the sewer. I think Lin was upset over the idea that Naru was taking a risk though. I don't think anyone knows exactly how much PK-ST power Naru can use safely. Lin probably doesn't want Naru to take any chances whatsoever. But yeah, hearing that Naru used his PK to bend the spoon is what made Lin mad at the end of episode 10.

Why Naru's powers are referred to as poltergeist? Wikipedia describes this term like "Poltergeist (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/13/De-poltergeist.ogg) (help (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Media_help)ˇinfo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:De-poltergeist.ogg)) (German (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_language) for noisy ghost (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost)) is a term used to describe a supposed spirit or ghost that manifests itself by moving and influencing inanimate objects". So it's quite clear that the phenomenon is caused by a ghost, not by a human: if the cause is a human then it's telekinesis.

Why Naru's powers are referred to as poltergeist?
You're misinterpreting the script; he caused "poltergeist phenomena", which are events such as rattling cupboards. Remember that earlier, Naru said most poltergeist phenomena are caused by "low teens" :)

Yes but why aren't they called telekinesis? That's the proper name as "poltergeist phenomena" are caused by spirits/ghosts.
I'm 90% posotive that there will not be, but call me a pessimist.
Anyways, the A-Z drabble series has begun! A is for Angel. John and Masako centric. Not as a pairing. Boila. (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3465867/1/)
EDIT: Also, as I'm watching the sub of 25...

Call me crazy but I love it when it's like 1 am and it's completely silent and then you watch this. I think it would lose most of it's effect if you watched this series it at like 3 PM, or atleast with daylight.

Yes but why aren't they called telekinesis? That's the proper name as "poltergeist phenomena" are caused by spirits/ghosts.
Since I dont have epi 3 handy this is quote from manga vol 1...hope this helps...
N: "Half of all poltergeist cases are attributable to humans."
M: "Pranks?"
N: "No, a type of psychic energy most of the time it happens unconsciously"
Now Naru is referring to Kurado since she had the desperate need to be noticed but Lin is saying that Naru's powers were so strong he couldnt control it at all.
Im not sure exactly why the term "poltergiest" was used but I think its more to refer to objects moving by themselves then supernatural beings doing it but thats just me.
@guiltygearxt: Id love to believe there will be a 2nd season but with the manga on hold, it would have to be entirely novel based at this point...but we can dream...
Also note to those ppl who are waiting for LKK's summary spoiler post...read it slowly and carefully she covers ALOT (and can I stress alot) of information, Ive read it and its wonderful :D
As for 25 subbed...man pisssed off Naru is hot!! I love how he let his pride get the better of him and even was a slight hypocritic when Bou-san called him out on the "there's no way to hunt monsters"
btw Yasuhara's line "His mood's terrible" made me laugh out loud XD
One thing I will say is I wish the anime had showed Lin's attempt to stop Naru a bit more...in the manga he tries to get him but Bou-san needs Lin a bit more and you can tell that Lin is yelling for Naru to stop...but on that note, Im also glad the anime didnt show a specific scene from the manga...
After Naru collapses, Lin is shown performing chest compressions on him....makes you see the severity of Naru's pk use...but still sent shivers up my spine when I saw it
Also since GH is offically over now that the sub is out, Im again wearing my all black Naru-esque work outfit :D

OMG!!! Masako in normal clothes is sooooo cuteeeeeee!
Im not sure exactly why the term "poltergiest" was used but I think its more to refer to objects moving by themselves then supernatural beings doing it but thats just me.
Like you said earlier, the phrase was "poltergiest phenonmenon". Although it was definitely Naru's PK that was making the objects float around him in his childhood, it seemed to others as though a poltergeist was responsible at the time. That's my best guess, anyway.
Also note to those ppl who are waiting for LKK's summary spoiler post...read it slowly and carefully she covers ALOT (and can I stress alot) of information, Ive read it and its wonderful :D
I don't know if "wonderful" is the right word because Manju is biased. But I hope you'll find it informative. You'll definitely find it long though. It's running about 8 pages in 12 point font size when I print it off for proofing.
but on that note, Im also glad the anime didnt show a specific scene from the manga...
After Naru collapses, Lin is shown performing chest compressions on him....makes you see the severity of Naru's pk use...but still sent shivers up my spine when I saw it
Manju and I disagree slightly on this point. She didn't want to see the scene. I thought the anime should have had the scene because everyone knows that when CPR is given, the situation is really, really bad. Even a discussion outside of ICU-CCU doesn't convey the same severity as watching someone perform CPR.
Mmm, same spoiler as the above posts
I kind of am glad they didn't show it too- it shows how serious it is, but if his heart really stopped beatuing somewhere that far out- well, even with CPR, he probably would've died. Cause, yknow, it doesnt really re-start your heart. So it's more believable this way.
Though I did want to see Lin's mad dash and freakout from the manga. It was pretty cute. ^^

Damn! I Loved that ending. That was one of the best endings I have seen recently.
In fact, Ghost Hunt is one of the best series I have seen. I honestly didn't expect it to turn out this way, but it has established itself easily in the top 10, and I'm even contemplating demoting Cowboy Bebop to make room in the top 5. Bebop had better Art and Music, and really great characterization, but GH had better character development, and a stronger plot. Ultimately Bebop left me feeling that it was one hell of a pass-time, but was extremely episodic, whereas GH just seemed to build and build and build.
Damn! I'm glad all shows aren't this great. I would never do anything but stare at a screen!
You know, considering how many people were injured and killed at the inn in the previous 2 or 3 days, it's a wonder that the police and the paramedics weren't camped outside in the parking lot. :heh:
One thing that has always, always impressed me about GH has been the music. Episode 25 was no exception.
Two new and very different pieces of music were introduced in episode 25.
The music during Ayako's power scene was appropriately calm and hinted at traditional Japanese melodies and accompaniments as fitting for a traditional Shinto ritual.
Whereas the new music played during Naru's power scene was a more Western piece filled with rising expections to go along with his power buildup. (It vaguely reminded me of something from Holtz's The Planets.)
Add to those the meloncholy love theme introduced when Mai and Naru were doubling as the princess and her fisherman in episode 22, there were a total of three new music motifs introduced in this one arc alone. Excepting the first story arc since all the music was new in that one, I think this arc had the most new music of any arc.
I can't decide which piece of music I like best. I love 'em all. I'm definitely buying the OST when it comes out. (I've already preordered it. :D )
Great series !
Only letdown throughout the series was Mai - Stupid in the beginning, almost no evolution in the end :x

At the moment this is where the manga ends. The last 2 novels havent been made into manga yet so if a 2nd season was done itd have to be novel based.
Manga vol 10 was suppose to be out in April but its been pulled from sites :( There is enough in the last 2 novels to probably make another 13 epi season so maybe we can all fanservice JC to do a novel based 2nd season :D
I know some people that could "persuade" them.
Great series, imo, perfect to get someone into anime.
I hate Naru.
I didnt like the final episode... It felt kind of rushed.
And how Naru suddenly pops out with some uber-naru-ray ... lame.
But still 8/10 for the final arc.
and 8/10 for the whole series.
Waiting for more.

I disagree. I thought that we were well prepared for something to happen because of the mystery of "Dream Naru", and Lin's comments when disabling him.

Great series !
Only letdown throughout the series was Mai - Stupid in the beginning, almost no evolution in the end :x
Disagree!
Mai blushed more deeply and frequently as the series progressed, which made her cuter =)

~sigh~ Ok, ok, I won't say that I HATED how Ghost Hunt ended cuz then that would be a complete lie...but like, i'm pretty sure almosy NOBODY liked how it ended 100%. What about the whole Naru & Mai thing? And like what happens to them afterwards??? And i do agree that it seemed kinda rushed (I mean, the whole thing where it always says "A few days later" i can understand, but like it was all action in the episode and then for the last 3-4 minutes they make it into Naru and the other at the hospital)
all in all though, it was an okay way to end, i'm gonna look on the bright side, it couldv'e been a worse ending (^_^'''')
And i'm positive there will be a second season. I'm also positive though that it wont be anytime soon, not for a while at least (maybe someday though....^_^)
Mai blushing more and deeper does not constitute a well-rounded character. DX The only well-rounded characters in the series are Naru and Lin. But the supporting cast is still loveable! <3 Except Masako... *hides from Monir*
Also, I find it worth noting that I mis-read BrokenAngel's sig as "Love is friendship set to arsenic." Which kind of makes me giggle. ^^
Today was 5:18 a.m. when I finished to watch the last episode to Ghost Hunt. Since at that time, I had no access to the internet I fully saw the episode in raw without the help of Impz's blog synopsis. Today, I am likely to read his/her review to check for myself the details that the language barrier prevented me from learning.
So for anti-Ayako fans out there who were complaining about her uselessnes may want to keep silence and reflect that she actually kicked ass in this episode, saving the best for the last.
Since I do not know exactly what went on given my restricted knowledge on Japanese language, was that Ayako called the spirits within the trees to converge spiritual energy into the tree branch with the bell tied on it and served to placate the spirit's anger and to give rest to the souls of those murdered, as well as forcing to leave the spirits inhabiting the tombs of the three-six.
wHAT surprise means to have the boss back.
Naru in his usual demeaning stance to which makes Mai down.
The truth is that what I understood the spirit dwelling on the remnant hands of the Okobu was cause of dissonace, disharmony, and strife with the other spirits.
They perform a ritual to exorcise the wooden hand, but it called upon a swarming of lost souls to fend off the ghost hunters.
After the successive failures by Bou-san, John, and Yasuhara, Naru calls not an end but Mai goes postal on him, berating that his pride is going to cost them all their lives.
Unfortunately, Mai again gets the better or worse from her anger and again understimates Naru, for who he was prepared to challenge the spirit and found himself on the need to manifest his powers a la DBZ to turn to toothpicks the wooden hand.
Lin sheds on Mai a little bit of background info about Narus' powers, and his parents.
Things look to start normal with Naru gone out from intensive care and Mai & Masako quarreling over who gets to serve him tear.
Didn't I mention that Masako looks gorgeous in any other dress that is NOT a kimono?
Given my limited knowledge of Japanese, for the last line that Mai delivers is that she wants to always stay with everyone.
With entire arc out I can finally watch it with me trusted blankie offcourse : D
Gah! Augh! Ack! Splutter!
I can't believe 25 sub is out already. For the first time in my anime-watching life, I had wished that the sub would be a little late :uhoh: . Now GH has truly, truly ended :upset: . WHAAAHHH!
The ending was really good. GH ended on a high note; that's for sure, but to major fans like me and others, it was "disappointing" in that we demand a continuation and more answers :upset: . The ending gives me 2 possible impressions: (1) GH will continue in the manga :upset: ; (2) there's another season coming...:D . I pray that # 2 will be true...please...PLEASE! I want to see those events and that conclusion animated. I want to see Bou-san's expression when he discovers the truth about his "idol" :D - and everyone else's for that matter. Dammit! I just want to see more Naru! :heh: (the truth comes out).
The only one I have to look forward to now is Akidzuki...:upset: (although that series' plot is vortexing downward :eyebrow: ).
By the way, LKK, have you posted a link to your essay yet? Just wondering in case I might have missed it somewhere.
It's going to be sad seeing this thread disappear down the list of threads later...
*sigh* I need to watch Naru's power-up scene again...and again...and again...:heh:

I liked the last episode. We learned more about Ayako's power, I thought the thing about the trees was interesting.
We also learn more about Naru.
I think considering the fact that the manga is not completed, this was a nice ending.
I agree Masako looks cute in normal clothes. It's nice that they put that part in for the last episode instead of having her in a Kimono all the time.
I hope they will have a season two (even if it has to be novel based).
Too bad they didn't have time to talk about Mai and make her stronger...
LKK...I was wondering...in the manga/novel, does Mai's ability eventually become stronger?
Soon Mai will charge up like they did in dragonball and be able to shoot giant energy balls.

Nice essay. When was the first novel released? They must have done some serious modding on this. It sounds like the first novel could have been in the early 80s. Yet the show has advanced recording devices. Did the animators and manga author just add those in?
The first novel was released in 1989. I assume the advanced recording devices are an update. But even in the early novels, SPR was using top notch recording equipment.

This was a great series, and it was especially rewarding for me since I originally started watching it on a whim - Ep#1 torrent appears, "never heard of it", nothing currently downloading, nothing in the watch queue, "what the hell, let's take a look...". Sometimes idle curiousity pays off. :)
The ending for Ghost Hunt was very well done, and that is just about the highest praise I can give to any anime series. I love anime, but one thing that consistantly drives me up the wall is the inability of the vast majority of anime scriptwriters to craft a decent ending for their series. So many shows that I see don't actually reach an end point - they either flail about aimlessly through the last couple of episodes or they simply come to a stop for no discernible reason. And it gets very frustrating sometimes. Ghost Hunt was a welcome exception.
Perhaps it is the way they structured the series - each case file could viewed as a self-contained story, but they also draw upon information about the characters and the way their world works gleaned from previous cases. And then all of the individual case files were grouped to form a single overall arc in which we learned about the personalities, the strengths and weaknesses, and a general idea of the capabilities of the various members of the group. They then neatly wrapped up that overall arc and stopped at a point which, while it left me wanting more, did not make me feel cheated out of a proper resolution. We were shown what we had to know in order to understand how things in each case played out, but enough questions remain unanswered to insure that the viewers will be interested in finding out what happens next. It may never come about, but they have set the stage nicely for a second season without leaving the first thrashing around for closure.
Regarding another topic - Masako did look cute in western clothing. But I still think that she is far more attractive when dressed in her kimono. Not every girl can wear a kimono well, but the garment greatly enhances the grace and beauty of those who can. IMHO, of course! ;)
BTW, since a girl like Masako was in this show, does anyone here know of a term used to describe a female anime character who habitually wears traditional clothing? Like the way that "meganekko" refers to a girl who wears glasses, or "bokukko" for a girl who uses the masculine "boku" to refer to herself (and is usually considered a tomboy).
I am sure they did as Naru seems like a rich little prick. But the equipment shown in the series is state of the art now. But it is only natural they would mod it a little as to fit our era.
Anyways, really liked the article. Kinda sucks the story was never really ended but if the manga goes on up to novel 10 eventually, maybe they will finish it with the original authors help. Maybe she could overview how it ends into what she wanted. Or maybe she will just rewrite the series again and finish. I just wonder how much will change if completely rewrittin from novel 1.
All in all, was a fun little series. But I will move on and go to other shows and novels(Trying to tear through 21 novels now...). But every few months I will check back on Ghost Hunt for news of a manga/novel continuation or maybe a short new series or OVA.

Another Masako victim, err.. fan :heh: :heh:
Umm, I'm not sure, but I think I heard 大和撫子 (http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%A4%A7%E5%92%8C%E6%92%AB%E5%AD%90) (Yamato Nadeshiko) or 和風美人 (wafuu bijin) many times.
Yamato Nadeshiko is a compliment for Japanese woman. Well maybe we can roughly translate it as "perfect woman". Powerful, beautiful (not only appearance but also inner beauty), etc. But IIRC, I also heard in anime a guy calls his friend yamato nadeshiko in a joke nuance. wafuu bijin refers to Japanese style beauty.

LKK, thanks for the summary and reply to my question!
I'm going to read your essay right now :)
yeah, I miss Ghost hunt already. I can't believe it's over.
Yes, I agree Masako looks really nice in a Kimono. Actually, I would like to see Mai in a kimono too. :) And perhaps Naru in an outfit that's not completely black...
I want a second series! They should have made this like one of those never-ending series with hundreds of episodes... :)
Too tired an lazy to do any form of a summary, though i will say this - this one turned out a lot better than i expected, and i ended up liking a lot. Though the last arc was my least favorite by far - imo they ventured too far in to the whole supernatural thing, with the zombie attack, Lin commanding some kind of a monster arm, and the whole "superpowers" of the bunch in general (with Naru throwing a fireball in the and glowing like a flashlight to top it all). I very much preferred when the paranormal powers of our little group were displayed in a subtler form. Pretty much ruined the feeling of "Ghost Hunt". I was very much disappointed by the last case - it went over the top, and that was not a good thing in this case.

LKK you are truely amazing (^_^!!!) that made so many things clear and kinda gives me even more hope that a second season will be made! (n_n)
but now i'm starting to wonder about
what if the dream Naru is really Naru's brother, since they look the same and sound alike....o.o??? ok, lol, only like 5% of me thinks that while the other 95% thinks (or mainly wants) it to be the actual Naru. but still, its just a thought for me

All hale LKK-sensei for the wonderful essay :D . Like I said on LJ...thanks for writing it. I particularly liked the revelation about their past pre-anime/manga.
Just thinking about Naru again...like that's new xp
But I wonder if Naru has always been like this - cold, reclusive, and satirical. I wonder if it is due to that death that has made him the way he is now. Alas, a question never to be answered. :upset:
I'm going to keep tabs on how the novel goes, whether the novelist will finally complete the darn thing - supposedly she's intending to re-write it. I wonder what she meant by "re-writing"?
