I have been cruising the net and have seen this new character her name is karen and she seems to have a grude vs Lina and had affairs with the evil kaito I dont much since my japanese sucks and I only knew from another website also there will be another group who have similar powers to the mermaid princesses and

OK, I started watching this show on Saturday mornings because it comes on after Sailor Moon (though on a different channel). And I went out and bought the manga (vol 3 comes out next month! yay!).

So what I'm wondering is...evil-Kaito, are you sure his name is Kaito? In the manga his name is Gakuto (in katakana, no kanji), and in the anime sometimes it sounds like they're saying Gaito rather than Kaito (they could have changed it in the anime to avoid getting sued by Gackt, maybe). Anyway the manga still has that thing when Lina shows up where she thinks Kaito is actually Gakuto and there's some sort of connection between them, but why did the anime go and give him the same name (if that's what they did, if it's not actually Gaito) and make it all the more confusing?

Er, I see that in episode 11, Lunar/A-Flux started using "Gaito." I hadn't watched that episode yet when I posted above. Good decision. The two names definitely sound different when they say them.

However, that episode also includes Lucia's name on a sign, in English, with the spelling "Lucia." If you didn't know, Lucia is an Italian name, and "ci" in Italian is pronounced like "chi" in romaji. Here's a site with sound clips of the pronunciation of operas' names.

The opera there is Lucia di Lammermoor.

When I started watching this show and then got the manga, I wondered if it was meant to be Lucia. While I'm not sure the spelling has ever appeared in the manga (or any roman spelling at all), it seems to me this was the spelling intended from the start. THOUGH one argument against that is that her name is in hiragana instead of katakana, in which case if you follow the usual rules, only "Ruchia" would be correct. "Luchia" is out.

Anyway, the episode that was on TV this morning was definitely a great episode. Wish I could understand more. For an anime that has to have a lot of filler because the manga is monthly, last week's episode was like filler for filler!

It seems like typical mahou shoujo fare but I am still hooked by it for some reason. The singing isnt too great sometimes but I like the op/ed and there seems to be a bit of a love triangle forming after ep 16 and I want to see how it all turns out. Yeah, the series conclude at episode 26, sadly. I'm not a fan, just sort of a regular for the show, for some odd reasons I really liked the style of the characters, and after watching Mermaid's Forest, I really needed this show to cleanse my memory and rid of those horrifying creatures from Rumiko's world...which were more like half-ghoul/half fish rather than mermaids.

I liked all the shining and over-dramatic moments in Mermaid Melody, and like any good shoujo anime, the tranformation scenes! This show is a great example of every pre-conceived ideas of mermaids that i have.


:topicoff: by the by, i really wish i can turn back time, Mermaid's Forest has totally ruined the mental image i had for mermaids. DONT watch that show if you're a fan of Little Mermaid every since 2nd grade. gah, someone should of warned me.

I'd like to point some things out :P

1) There are other groups subbing Mermaid Melody right now as well, like the group I'm from. Shoujo-Anime. :P We just released episode 11 today and we have scripts continuing for quite awhile. Most of our staff just is busy with IRL stuff, so we don't release as fast as some of the other groups. What can you do~ :heh: Hopefully, you can be expecting more soon.

2) The series does NOT end at 26. More than likely, it will be ending at 52. Episode 39 aired on saturday, and there was a preview for 40, so it didn't end there either =P You may enjoy it now, but I have a feeling you'll only be watching it for the music as it gets higher up. Lots of useless filler eps, need to go into plot more.

Luchia is a cute and charming character and I like her talking voice. Not a big fan of the songs. My favorite character is the green haired Mermaid, Lina. And I think Lina has the best singing voice.

I haven't seen any other mangas by Hanamori Pink (who does the manga) or by Yokote Michiko (who is credited for "scenario"--whether this means Hanamori does the art and Yokote does the story or Yokote just came up with the initial idea and Hanamori does everything else I don't know). But I haven't checked around excessively. They don't seem to have any other Nakayoshi titles at least.

She seems like Kaito-sama's mate or something, but in the second season, around episode 35 or so, we find out she turned evil because Tarou betrayed her, and she now damns all humans. Meaning, this is the orange mermaid Hanon keeps hearing about and worries about. AKA Indian Ocean Mermaid princess. In the end of the S2 episode with her, Tarou's music enchants her again as she sits in the audience, she basically transforms and stops a hugeass tsunami with her wonderful badass best song in the series song and then swims off into the ocean. Not sure if she returned to Kaito or went off on her own)

Yeah, I'm a Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch watcher. Is it my favorite anime in the world? No, but I'm still addicted anyway. :heh: I'm not sure why. I guess I think the romance between Luchia and that surfer guy is cute and I like the opening and ending songs. Some parts can get really cheesey, but I still like it anyway. :) I just came back so I was sic-ed to see three new episodes finally came out! We find out Hippo has a human form before S2 starts, I didn't think it was that important to mention, because the little plot with it is really bad ^^;;... Some more info for all of you guys:

Coco is the other mermaid trapped in Kaito-sama's lair.
Noelle and Karen are special-fated twin mermaids [forgot to mention this]. Karen is mad at Rina for a very long time because she thinks Rina betrayed her sister and left her to be captured by Kaito-sama and his goons while she escaped safely to the FORBIDDEN HUMAN WORLD. All the info for now that I can think of~

There is a depressing Little Mermaid episode that airs in MMPPP. Go figure, sorry I'm spoiling this with no tags but I'll go into as little detail as possible. It's episode 29 and their school does The Little Mermaid (The Mermaid Princess) as their school play. Hippo describes the story in the episode, and in the end, the mermaid decides not to stab the prince and bathe in his blood { i think thats how it went, i forget now } and threw herself back into the ocean where she turned into bubbles.

Well, I don't read Danish, so I can only check the translations. Several different ones corroborate this though.

Andersen's fairy tales are different from pretty much all others in that he created them himself. Grimm's fairy tales were collected from oral traditions, not actually created by the Grimm brothers.

Gahh!!!! In this month's chapter (chapter 18), (major spoiler)
Gakuto (Gaito in the anime) has Kaito's symbol appear on his forehead and he tells Kaito that Kaito is his younger brother. (Actually he says "futago no otouto" which would be "younger twin brother" but I dunno if that might be taken figuratively...I've always thought Gakuto was older, even if they are the exact same height and look identical.)

This seems to be in a dream Kaito is having though so I'm not sure about it...gah, wish I understood Japanese better.

yeah, they just used the same stock animation for the trio and interspersed some Karen bits for specific lines...was she singing those lines by herself? Was she singing any of the times someone else was singing? It was a little hard to tell.

Hello, I'm a Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch fan too. I've already seen all the subtitled episodes (1-17). But, do any of you fans know a website with the lastest episodes' guides? I've found one website that has the summary to all the episodes shown in Japan as of now (Episodes 1-44), http://kaz9n.hp.infoseek.co.jp/works/pitch/. However, the website is in Japanese, and though I've used machine translations to try to translate it, it's still not well readable. So, do any of you fans know a website that has guides for the lastest Mermaid Melody episodes?

The March issue of Nakayoshi announces the second series.

I don't read all that much Japanese but it looks like it says the new anime series begins on April 3 and is called ����ピッ� ピュア or "Pichi Pichi Pitch Pure."

(I had to change manually to UTF-8 character set for that to work. ("pichipichipitchi pyua" in romaji.)

But anyway clearly this means that the first series will end before that (well, duh). Dunno what they plan, but perhaps this is something like Sailor Moon did, with one continuous manga series, but 5 different anime series.

Volume 4 of the manga comes out March 26. Darnit! 9 days after I leave.

In this issue, looks like things are really coming to a head as (big spoilers...well, basically the important stuff I understand)the quartet (and Taki-san) attack Gakuto's palace. He has Kaito captive and unconscious, and Sara has Mitsuki captive and unconscious. Sara explains (some?) of what went on with her and Mitsuki in the past, but I haven't gone through with my electronic dictionary.

Karen and Lina free Noel and Coco, and Coco chews Sara out and sings her the nanatsu no umi no rakuen song from the anime (I dunno if the lyrics have been in the manga before...) and reminds her that she's the orange mermaid princess.

Gakuto tells Lucia that Kaito is his younger brother and (maybe that he's going to join him?). Lucia hears Coco singing the song in the distance, and yells that she believes in Kaito. Kaito wakes up and says that he will protect Lucia.

There's some stuff about Gakuto's and Kaito's power that I don't get.

Coco's song is the only singing in this chapter. There aren't really any attacks except for when Hanon gets frozen by an ice dragon (but she gets freed later). Hippo (in human form, with wings) tells Yuri to join them and Yuri says she belongs to Gakuto.

Man, this is almost as bad as the Naruto summaries people make by just looking at the pictures...Oh well, I thought it was a pretty cool chapter. ;)

This week's episode: Ah, the obligatory valentines' chocolate story.

I thought it was pretty darn funny when Hippo ate Hanon's chocolate after she'd spent so long making it. Also that this week's plot to catch the mermaid princesses was to sell chocolate and get them while they were eating it, but since only guys eat chocolate on v-day, that the plan was doomed from the start.

The scene with Kaito giving Lucia a ring with 2 hearts on it was taken from the Christmas chapter from this past December. Nakayoshi even had duplicates of the ring inside that issue.

On this ep Kaito was having memories of surfing alongside his father...at least, he was talking as if it was his father, but the face was shadowed and the body looked exactly like...

wow chapter 20 (April's chapter) is great.

Basically this could be the last chapter of the series. But it's not; it says "to be continued" at the end; I've no idea how many chapters might be left.

Gakuto pulls out a real sword and gives Kaito a nasty cut! The 7 mermaids all sing together and Aqua Regina comes! Gakuto is defeated! But Sara still goes off with him at the end for some reason, even after saving Mitsuki earlier. And Kaito knows for sure who Lucia is. On the last page she says "My prince.........?"

Noelle and Coco are saved and the 6 of them sing together in a big chorus like fashion. But Since Gaito(Gakuto) is now controlling Kaito's powers, his power has increased tenfold and their songs don't well, destroy him :P Finding out about this, Kaito runs trying to find them so he can help, but then before the 6, Sara appears again. (DUN DUN DUN). So the 6 of them can find out where Gaito is keeping Kaito, they Live Start.

But being a Mermaid Princess herself, Sara is unaffected, and Sara sings her song back in a counter-attack thingy. As she's singing, Sara hears Mitsuki-sensei's pianoplaying. While she's distracted by it, the others raise their mics once again. In that instant, Hanon runs to Mitsuki-sensei's room and blocks the way.

Quickly following Hanon, is Sara with the eyes she had from long ago. Endless tears begin to flow from her face as she listens, and her hateful feelings fade away. And finally, Sara's hair returns to the orange color it originally was. Even though the 7 mermaid princesses and pearls are back together, Gaito has already begun his harsh attack upon the human world. The ceiling begins to fall and rubble is scattered all over from the powerful attack. Luchia eventually finds Kaito and begins to run at him to embrace him, but then...

It's on TV Tokyo, Saturday mornings at 8 AM.

The manga is by Hanamori Pink and um...I forget the other person at the moment. It's been running for a year and a half in Nakayoshi. It's published by Kodansha. The title is Pichi Pichi Pitch. "Mermaid Melody" is a sort of subtitle except it comes before the title...but on the spine of the books all it says is Pichi Pichi Pitch.

The second game is kinda like Mario Party. The title is Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch - Pichi Pichi Party. I don't understand Japanese well, but I can tell that you move around a board, which is the city actually. And you interact with characters, talk, answer questions, etc. You can also equip items, use items, etc. You must reach a certain checkpoint on the board, after reaching there, the place changes. And the first person to reach the second checkpoint will get a certain amount of points, 2nd place person gets less, and the 3rd place person gets the fewest points.

And that, you'll transform and "fight" (sometimes one of the water demon). You will roll the die to determine the amount of damage the enemy takes, and to defend when you're being attacked.

The final score will be calculated after the battle.

Overall, I think it's pretty good, even though I can't understand a word, I still figured out how to play and what some of the items do. And I usually play it to pass time or when I'm bored. I'd give it a 8.5/10.

The price is 4980 yen and the game was released Dec. 18, 2003.

Yes, of course it's still coming out ^_^;; Shoujo recently released episode 21 about 2 weeks ago if I remember correctly. The series is 52 episodes and the next series (Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch PURE) is looking to be 26.

I sincerely hope that this isn't a violation of the rules. I have already posted this topic on the Lunar Anime forums and my forums.

A few days ago, I got the crazy idea of programming a game on the Mermaid Melody anime series. I will be using RPG Maker 2003 to make the game (or maybe RPG Maker 2000 since it's easier). I don't know how this will turn out yet. It is possible that I may not be capable of making a game such as this now. Please tell me your opinion if I should continue with this idea of making a game or drop the idea.

If I do decide to continue on with the project, then I will probably need some help from y'all. I have already decided that the game will follow the anime's storyline. And that the game will end at the end of season one with the fall of Gaito since season two just started and we don't know what will happen yet (although it's most likely that it'll be well into season two before the game's finished). But, I need some help will some of the graphics, sprites, etc. and ideas about the weapons, spells, items, etc.; I've already decided that the main weapon will be microphones. If you are good with making graphics and/or have some ideas about the weapons, spells, and items, please contact me. Oh yeah, and if you can rip some sound special effects, or music off of the game, I'd appreciate that too. Please contact me if you wish to sign up with the helping of the game. With the licensing of Mermaid Melody, many people are wondering what happens next, since there was still a good 26+ episodes left. Since I had already finished translating the entire series months ago, I will give you episode descriptions and synopses from where Shoujo-Anime left off. If your lucky, youll have one a day.

Episode 24 - My Dream to be a Bride!

Coming back from the South Atlantic, Meru mysteriously arrives at everyones Peach Parfait Hotel once again. This time shes out for what she originally send at the end of the first episode with her appearance -- love! Quoting her, "Well, the truth is, I couldn't forget about Kaito-sama, so I've come for him!" While at the beach together with Luchia, she asks Kaito to marry her, and, SHOKKU, Kaito says yes! New rivalry, Luchia vs. Meru! They go to a wedding chapel in town where they hold real weddings, special events that give people the experience of having a wedding, and new wedding dresses and tuxedo showings. Kaito and Meru plan to have a false wedding, but Luchia takes it too seriously and thinks they might actually get married! As Luchia stalks two in the chapel, Rina and Hanon show up to peek in and see how things are handling out. Hanon is split between cheering for a mermaid from her country and Luchia, and Rina gets stuck into wearing a tuxedo suit! At the big new wedding dress and tuxedo showing, Rina comes out in a tuxedo, with Hanon and Hippo watching. And because of Luchias meddling, shes come out with some other guy dressed in a wedding dress. Since Kaito and Meru went to see this show, when Kaito sees her with another guy, he gets jealous! But before he makes his action, Luchias grooms real partner shows up and they have a happy ending. Luchia steps down, but then Izul and Eril come out wearing new wedding dresses, and break into a fight soon after about who will be Gaito-samas bride. Of course this becomes a disaster when they start using their powers, and the three mermaids transform. For a starting duet, Rina and Hanon sing Ever Blue, and then Luchia comes down in a wedding chair from above, starting her chorus. "To have a wedding is the dream of every girl! And for you water demons to wreck it! With our three voices, we'll sing you a Pichi Pichi Wedding Chorus!" They all sing Super Love Songs! and defeat Eril and Izul. Meru realizes she has to give up on Kaito and takes a final picture together with Rina instead. "I hope to be like Luchia and also soon find myself someone wonderful to love!"

Episode 25 - The Moonlit Boy

One night, Hanon and Luchia are walking home on their way home from eating dinner. While going across the highway near the beach, they catch a glance of a bishounen who runs into a shed. He was a blonde haired boy, wearing a sailors uniform with a schoolboys hat and bright green eyes. His hair was compared to that of moonlight in color. The two of them run to there the shed is and pull the door open with all their strength, but who walks out isnt the boy, but Hippo. What could this mean? They dont know where the boy vanished off to so they all just go home. The next day, Hanon plots on someway to get the boy, but Hippo seems strangely startled.

Hanon: Alright! In that case, we'll create a few traps for him and catch him!
Hippo: P-Please don't do anything like that, Hanon-san!
Hippo: If you do something that reckless, what am I supposed to do if I get injured?!
Hanon: Why would you be the one getting injured...?
Luchia: Yeah...?
Hippo: Umm... That is...
Hippo: Oh, darn! Look at the time! I remember I had to meet some friends of mine somewhere! Bye!
Luchia: Weird Hippo.

Hippo runs away and runs into some kids bullying Momo-chan in a small river, trying to get him to jump through a ring they found. Foolishly, Hippo tells them to not pick on sea mammals. But when the kids see Hippo, a talking penguin, they chase after him and think hes more fun! Rina saves him from the kids, and Hippo falls with a big puff of smoke and instead of Hippo there, is the same boy from the previous night! Using her intellect, Rina realizes its Hippo and everyone is shocked, despite how obvious it was. Unfortunately, Hippo hates this human form of his. He thinks hes ugly despite everyone else says different. Nikora explains, "I guess there's no helping it. The sense of beauty here and in the sea are just too different." To prove that Hippo looks good, the three girls Hippo to the beach in his human form. Some skirtchasers come in asking Hanon for a date, but Hanon grabs Hippo and forces him to look up and good giving what would seem to be a cute face. The skirt chasers mumble to themselves that theyve totally lost and leave. Hippo then finally realizes hes good-looking in that form. When Kaito comes in and they try the same thing, Kaito doesnt get jealous, but Hippo understands. But then tons of girls come in and begin to fight over him, but Luchia and Hanon tear them away and Hippo begins walking on the beach. Meanwhile, Yuuri goes to Gaito-sama asking if he likes her new outfit, but Gaito doesnt care and sends her away. So Yuuri sadly goes out to the human world and is found weeping on the beach by Hippo. Hippo says he cant leave a weeping girl alone and they get all lovey-dubby and agree to meet again tonight at the same shed. That night at the Peach Parfait Hotel, Taki wants Hippo to change back into a penguin... with a large mallet to do it. Nikora explains how that if he stays in his human form for too long, he might randomly change back into a penguin at any time, and that if that happened in public, thered be a huge ruckus and the truth about the mermaid princesses might be revealed! Of course this means in turn, that Luchia and Hanon would be able to see Kaito and Tarou-chan anymore! So theyre now all against him staying in that form, so he changes back. While Yuuri was still at the shed, Yuuri finds something Hippo left behind - the pearl radar. Apparently she finds out it reacts to the mermaids and she wants to know why it does! Could Hippo be an ally of the mermaids? The next day, Hippo runs into a beautiful pair of red shoes and decides he wants to buy them for Yuuri. He works at Maki-sans beach house to make money so he can buy them. Yuuri spots him working and sees all the girls flirting with him, so she takes it the wrong way and creates a fuss at the beach house. Hippo chases after her trying to explain its a misunderstanding. The three mermaid girls chase after him and Hippo goes over to them to see if theyre all right. Yuuri attacks but Hippo takes the blow and becomes roast penguin from her lightning attack. He floats to the top of the water and transforms into a penguin from the blow, without Yuuri noticing. The three mermaids sing Super Love Songs! and drive Yuuri away. Though Hippo is very injured that night, he goes to the shed in his penguin form and gives Yuuri the shows through the door without her looking.

Yuuri: Hippo-san... this is the first time I've received a present like this since I was born...
Hippo: I'm glad. As I thought, they really fit you well, Yuuri-san.
Yuuri: But... I can't take these...
Hippo: You mustn't come outside, Yuuri-san!
Yuuri: Hippo-san. Why not?
Hippo: Right now... we've been given star-crossed fates...
Hippo: But one day, I'm sure, there will be a time when we can meet again.
Hippo: I will believe that the time will come.
Yuuri: Yes, I can understand during this brief period of time we're going through...
Yuuri: Until the day we meet again, I will be thinking of you and treasure these sandals you've given me.
Yuuri: I don't want to say goodbye...
Yuuri: Until we meet again, stay well, Hippo-san!

Yuuri leaves back into the sea and then Hippo runs towards the sea yelling for her. Hippo returns to the beach the next day and the three girls find out he had been doing the job because he had fallen in love with a water demon. But strangely, washed up on the shore was the pearl radar. Hippo wonders why its there but then sees a reaction of a pearl on it... In a nearby cove, a long purple-hair girl talks. Its the same girl from that time when they had Tarous welcoming party, and the same girl who won the Mermaid Contest! Its Karen!

Karen: My new partners seem to be having some trouble.
Karen: Those girls...

What could this mean?! Just who is Karen!?

Episode 26 - Karens Song

During a small holiday break the school has, Kaito goes to some southern islands for a national surfing competition. Kaito claims Luchia wont make it because its so far away, but little does he know that shes gonna go there together with Hanon and Rina to cheer him on. While all of this is happening, the four Dark Lovers come to the conclusion that there keeps being a problem whenever they go against the Mermaid Princesses. Theres four of them and three mermaids, why arent they winning? What should they do? They realize they should combine all four of the powers to finally capture them. Back at the southern island, as soon as the three main girls arrive, they run into Kousuke Sakuya again! That other surfer who also battled with Kaito back in episode eight. He says hell treat her to a meal from before, but exchange, he tells her to give him a congratulatory kiss if he wins this competition. Of course, Luchia doesnt agree, but Sakuya does in his own head, so theres a huge misunderstanding. Sakuya heads back to his room and runs into Kaito and explains the congratulatory kiss thing. Kaito shrugs it off saying Luchia isnt here, but then he sees her. Luchia attempts to explain its a misunderstanding to him. Right as she finishes explaining, before Kaito can respond, a suitcase from a higher flight of stairs falls down and hits him in the back of his shin. He claims it didnt hurt. Later in the day, the three girls go out for lunch but there arent any seats. Sakuya offers one but they all decline. But then he goes serious for a moment and pulls Luchia to the side and confesses that he really likes her and asks if shell consider going out with him if he wins. She didnt really reply and goes back to the others. There all about to head to their rooms, but then theres an announcement that Mitsuki Tarou will be performing a recital outside on the veranda. Of course Hanon goes. Luchia wants to go talk to Kaito so she doesnt, and Rina spots Karen outside thinking shes Noelle and follows after her. During this same time, Kaito and Sakuya make a challenge with one another to get a congratulatory kiss from Luchia should either of them win. After following Karen some, she loses sight of her but then spots a mermaid swimming away in the distance. Again, Rina is confusing her for Noelle but she doesnt chase after her. Back in their rooms, that night, the pearl radar reacts to a new pearl. After hearing that, Rina is almost sure its Noelle. After that, the scene changes again and now apparently rumours are going around that Kaitos been injured. Luchia blames it on herself since Kaito stepped in the way to block the suitcase from hitting Luchia earlier. The doctor tells Kaito to rest and not participate, but that afternoon he does. Luchia tries to convince him to rest, but he wont budge and he tells her to believe in him. Rina caught sight of the mermaid from before again and this time is chasing her into the sea. One of Erils tropical scouting fish notice and tells the four Dark Lovers. At this same time, Sakuya and Kaito duel out in their surfing competition, and Kaito wins. But right after Kaito wins and hes about to get his kiss, Hanons and Luchias pendants start glowing. Rinas in a pinch! Hanon and Luchia arrive in time and their about to start singing Super Love Songs! but then thats when the Dark Lovers attack. With the combination of all of their moves, their live stage is shattered! As there about to finally attack them again to capture them, a voice shouts out, "Purple Pearl Voice!" As Karen transforms, Rina realizes its not Noelle. By just singing Legend of Mermaid, Karen destroys all four Dark Lovers and sends them fleeing. Whether its the song or Karens actual voice which drove them away, Im not sure. The mermaids utter, "Thats the fourth... Mermaid Princess..." and the episode ends.

I've found one website that has the summary to all the episodes shown in Japan as of now (Episodes 1-44), http://kaz9n.hp.infoseek.co.jp/works/pitch/. However, the website is in Japanese, and though I've used machine translations to try to translate it, it's still not well readable. I am pretty sure the evil one (Gakuto in the manga) is Gaito in the anime. However, it's spelled using the same kanji as Kaito in the credits. But it sure sounds like Gaito to me.

Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch was licensed by ADV earlier this year for english distribution. As such, english fansubs of it are no longer available for download (or at least shouldn't be). If you wish to watch the first series, your options are mainly limited to either getting the Japanese DVDs (or watching any other raws) or waiting for the english DVD release (which does not yet have an announced release date). By the way, even if you were able to find the fansubs of it, you wouldn't even be able to see half the series (no group got that far).

Finally, I'm done through with the Mermaid Melody titles.

It's been over eighteen months since I began dl and watching the entire show.

The first thing that drew me forward was the promo art for the anime and encouraged me to look for it.

However, after watching the first episode of the Pitch (not Pure) series, I was left with a jumbled, scrambled array of mixed feelings. I was not expecting that this particular magic-girl titles turned out to be a musical magic-girl anime.

Episode by episode, the cliché stage-go-to-concert-to-defeat-the-baddies routine made me uncomfortable, however, somehow I did get used to it by episode 23 of the Pitch series. And from them on, it was a delightful roller coaster ride.

The things that I found original for this magic-girl show were:
1. That the mermaid heroines perform songs to defeat the wicked tsuiyo.
2. The tsuiyo, as also the new bad girls from season 2, are neither destroyed nor killed but either faint or experience heavy migraines after hearing the mermaids songs.

It turns interestings the events about Kaitou's true origins as also his relation with Gaito. (I mean just from the very start they look physically alike as also possessing similar voices)
Sara's relationship with Gaito was also interesting.

Later for season 2:
Mikael's true origins and his/her relation with Mikaru, and Kaitou's convenient memory loss.

This is the first magic-girl anime that made me love all the female cast: good and wicked girls.
The animation staff really made to show off to make all girls look gorgeous.

The Mermaid Princesses, Gaito's Dark Lover's quartet, the Black Beauty Sisters, Lady Bat, RanFan, Arala; I'm not having any complains about them in the animation and character design.

However, from the beginning, I did disliked Luchia's voice. The seiyuu who voiced her seemed like she was having a cold, but somehow I did also got used to her voice.

The downside of the show was that I finally lost interest to it by episode 21 of the second, Pure, season. I just sticked to it because the enigmatic plot and mystery of Mikaru and Mikael and the supposedly villain boss that I thought was controlling Mikael.

Episode 36 of the Pure season was the bomb to me, and I have to endure session after session of music performace. I had to because I've came this far to watch how all will end. As well that the mystery boss dissappointed me terribly.

Unfortunately, the last episode of the entire show seemed like sort of an epilogue play reuniting almost all characters that made long or brief appearances during the first and second seasons.

I'm just glad its over and done with Mermaid Melody. I guess that music, magic-girl anime are not my genre to enjoy.

Just wondering by random if anyone knows which new anime will be taking the spot that Mermaid Melody was previously holding?

I believe only 1-25 are fansubbed at the moment. Due to the fact that this title was licensed and then dropped, fan-subbing stopped for a period of time. Lunar (http://www.lunaranime.org/), the group behind Season #1, has resumed fan-subbing the rest of the episodes (http://www.lunarforums.org/viewtopic.php?t=2849) (Lunar forum link).

One good way to find out about the status of a project (besides asking here) is to check out the group's web-site or IRC channel. You can access that off the series BT page by clicking on the group's name:

OK, just saw ep 27. What happened? I blinked once, and suddenly I was watching the performance of the yuri sisters, kissing etc. throughout their song. Even that would be fine if they effected the "princesses" the way the princesses effect the suiyou. Instead, I found myself having flashbacks to episode 4 of Cosmopolitan Prayers. This doesn't seem fair at all. The bad guys get headaches and dizzy spells when attacked, while the good guys get VIOLATED. Someone tell me that the producers stopped taking whatever made them do this soon! It seems almost as if this is becoming a common feature to mahou shoujo, and I'm not liking it. Put that into some other series, please.

I must admit, though they make the story a little more interesting, those yuri sisters with microphone cords coming out of the behinds never fail to frighten me. I really wish that the little one wouldn't always react to her sister the way Aoi Nagisa of S. Panic reacts to Shizuma.
For some reason, it seems like the last few eps were mainly about trying out different sound effects, like the way they adjusted the voices as the "camera" went around them. Interesting tricks, but nothing special, and the presence of echos, etc., won't really make a bad song good.

It's nice to see some intrest in this anime. Being one of my favorites, I'll gladly suggest that it is good for romance, but, chances are your views aren't the same as mine, so hopefully I can give you a short, non spoiling description for you here.

Basically, this series is good for romance. That is, both MMPPP series. Because you have a series based around singing, you'll probably write it off on the basis that the first series centers around the "bad guys cause trouble, sing em out" routine. But, that isn't why I'm recommending this series. We have a series that has 23 minute episodes, which means that a majority of the first half of a episode is a nice romantic moment between the 3 main girls and their love interests. Which is why I throw in MMPPP Pure, the second series. This series to me, has more romance involved than the first season, based on the fact that all 3 main girls have their love interests in sight and locked on :heh:

So, yeah, if you want to watch it for the romance, go right ahead, but let me also warn you that if romance is all your after, be prepared to endure all the singing and bad guy handling.

To me though, I enjoyed both series very much, for both the romance and the singing. Sure, I would've like just the romance part of it all, but the bad guys didn't really bother me that much. I guess, you could say I'm a sucker for this kind of anime :heh:

1) It probably finished airing in Japan quite a long time ago, so have fun looking for DVDs or perhaps even VHS tapes...
2) It was never translated into English commercially, and fansubs stopped at episode 34.

I'd like to point some things out :P

1) There are other groups subbing Mermaid Melody right now as well, like the group I'm from. Shoujo-Anime. :P We just released episode 11 today and we have scripts continuing for quite awhile. Most of our staff just is busy with IRL stuff, so we don't release as fast as some of the other groups. What can you do~ :heh: Hopefully, you can be expecting more soon.

Luchia = Pink Mermaid Princess (North Pacific I believe it was, I don't have my scripts on this computer)

Noelle = Blue[?] Merrmaid Princess (North Pole, currently trapped in Kaito's lair)
Sarah = Orange Mermaid Princess (BIG SPOILERS HERE. Think back to episode 13. The person who was inside that reflecting pool/oracle type thing. She finally shows herself in an ep. She seems like Kaito-sama's mate or something, but in the second season, around episode 35 or so, we find out she turned evil because Tarou betrayed her, and she now damns all humans. Meaning, this is the orange mermaid Hanon keeps hearing about and worries about. AKA Indian Ocean Mermaid princess. In the end of the S2 episode with her, Tarou's music enchants her again as she sits in the audience, she basically transforms and stops a hugeass tsunami with her wonderful badass best song in the series song and then swims off into the ocean. Not sure if she returned to Kaito or went off on her own)

Sadly also, seems Lunar has ceased on such (they even locked the PPP forums). Best advice is what I might do: get a JP-EN voice activated translator, and write subs. My question: where's the english sub for 34-35? I only have up to 33.

Finally more of this craziness. I must admit I've started to really love those yuri-hentai sisters with the mics connected to their butts... It's not just how creepy their relationship feels(I usually don't find yuri creepy, just weird but these two...). I think part of it is that I still can never tell whether their song is really causing the mermaids PAIN. It's doing something to them, but harm doesn't seem to be it. With the witches it was clear from the screams that the bad singing was making their ears bleed, but this just doesn't look or sound the same. Don't know if it was intentional, but it adds such absurdity I can't help but laugh. It's one thing to be half-killed by a song, but to be violated by one?

Never mind the fact only "auto-popular" series have a chance of getting a TV deal and Mermaid Melody doesn't count. Still what I've seen so far has been a bit curious and strangely addictive. I liked mermaid Melody ever since I started to watch but as I grew older I found out that other than the songs, the enemy fall for the same song in every episode no matter how strong they are, there no alternatives for them. This sadly makes it a little boring knowing that when audience see an enemy they know that their going to me defeated by the same song from the good guys. No Offense

In both the series and manga, Yuri is not dead, but she is in her true form [a fish]. (i.e., Gaito had originally magic-ed her up to the human/demon form you're most familiar with; then Yuri gave up the magic (to Gaito) in her final (Season 1) battle, causing her to revert.)

Yuri (in human/demon form) and Hippo meet once more due to a magic wish (which was only temporary). So, until such time as Hippo can find her again and find some magic to "restore" her to human/demon form, they are separated. [In short, this is left unresolved.]

Now, in the anime, part of the very last episode (of Pure) takes place in a "dreamscape" (i.e., it takes place in the minds of the three mermaids, as they try to imagine/resolve what their future may hold). In this segment, some of the "dead" characters re-appear, and Yuri and Hippo are re-united. But again, it's "just a dream . . . ."

I've watched the whole series (including second series) I like the opening songs and Rina's song star jewel, although I have to say Karen's singing makes my ears bleed. Karen never had any affairs with Gaito though, Idk where you got that information from because it's not accurate. Here's a spoiler for Karen,
Karen is the purple mermaid princess and has the purple pearl voice. She's from the artic ocean and has a twin sister named Noelle who is the blue pearl princess, due to circumstances they were seperated. Karen is the younger twin and has never gotten to see her elder twin Noelle since they live on polar opposites of the oceans. Karen has a grudge against Rina because Rina and Noelle were close friends and when Gaito's reign had began Noelle and Rina were being hunted down, Noelle sacrificed herself and had Rina escape. Karen thinks that Rina become a coward and left Noelle to face Gaito's wraith which is wrong, Rina left reluctantly btw.

I've taken some renewed interest in this show. Since the last post here, early in 2011 A-Flux and Lunar put out a bigger and better torrent of the work they did between 2003 and 2007 from 1-39. This was at the same time that Wasurenai's work on the final episodes 40-52 also came out.

The "Pure" sequel http://animesuki.com/series.php/464.html does not link to a forum thread, and currently no threads specifically about it exist, so hopefully we can discuss both series here. I have episodes 1-7 that Naisho finished in 2005. Haven't actually watched them yet since I realized this was a sequel (hasn't been the first time, made same mistake with Sisters of Wellber Zwei, German numbers...).

It seems that episodes 1-7 were picked up by the combination of WSRN and Licca and done earlier this September. They seem to have stopped there, not sure why. Perhaps these were the only raws that could be located? Pure 8-39 remains absent I guess.

Oh my, I remember how much I liked the show some years ago, when only a few episodes were subbed online. But after watching it fully, I was disappointed a little.

The first season is 52-episodes while it could have completed in 26-30. I couldn't stand some very random episodes, it was feeling so much like Pretty Cure at times. And some characters weren't developed.

However Pure was better. Less episodes, more interesting plot twists. But I was annoyed at the fact that,
Lucia kept talking about Kaito at the beginning of every episode and asking for him.

For me, Sara and Rina had the best personality.

As for the manga, it was so bad and rushed. However, it was nice to see that the author developed the supporting mermaids better, because it didn't happen in the anime.
