I did a search using "titles" and didn't find any. I think it deserves it's own thread 'cuz they are just TOO COOL! :D

The otaku craze of decorating cars with large graphics of anime characters.

Here are a few galleries I found for starters:

Gigazine article (http://en.gigazine.net/index.php?/news/comments/20080819_comike_itasya/).
Mainichi Daily News article (http://mdn.mainichi.jp/photospecials/graph/itasha/).

What I want:
http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s352/mushianime/misc/itasha/Itasha_Fate_01.jpg

What I can afford:
http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s352/mushianime/misc/itasha/comike_itasya41_NanohaBike.jpg
:heh:

Does anyone have, or know of galleries that have, hi-rez images of some of these cars?

Not sure if you've seen the Macross Frontier Itasha that raised quite an uproar: http://fullmoepanic.wordpress.com/2008/10/14/macross-itasha/

Search the Macross Image thread with 'Itasha' and you'll find more pics on it.

The owner of the Itasha is a Macross F project employee who recently became news again when he got pulled over by police who thinks he's selling something illegal with that van lol

I've seen a few of them, but none in real life. Where I live, anime and manga are like flying pigs. Though I doubt I would ever put one on my car, maybe as a plate tag.

Well... Itasha are nothing more than decals, without the panties...

Itasha in real life?

In Singapore, I've only seen Super Mario, Hello Kitty and I think a Pikachu car.

If only they could have used a larger size than 640x480. :(

Hmmm.... I'm thinking I want a Little Busters anime.

Has anyone considered doing an Ita-laptop? Certainly much cheaper than a car, more feasible for most people here. And I've seen a few people around my campus with custom decals on their laptops. Nothing anime related though...it would be pretty damn pimp to sit down at the student lounge, take out my laptop to work on my paper, proudly displaying my awesome Strike Witches pin-up tricked out laptop (Perrine theme? or Erica theme?)

The question is, do you make it so the image is right-side-up when the laptop is closed, or open? (I've seen people do it both ways)

Mushi

Interesting idea. I never even knew you could get skins for laptops.

I did some looking around. Here are some anime ones (click the images to see them on a laptop):

At skinit.com (http://www.skinit.com/skins/) you can make custom ones.

I'm hardly surprised the driver of the Macross van got pulled over by the cops. If nothing else I'd think it was liable to cause accidents by distracting other motorists!

"Import tuner" rice is one thing, but when you start slapping on anime-styled decals on your car? This just shows that Americans can be beat in the field of excess... :p

If it weren't so damn embarrassing, I'd rock that shit too...If my artwork wasn't so sketchy, I'd probably do the same using my artwork, kind of like the BMW Art Cars, but without the "art"...

These are definitely done by professional artists. However, do people actually drive these cars on the street? I doubt it though. It looks nice, but the idea to actually drive them on the streets everyday would be rather odd.

On a side note, these look very nice:

No idea. I'd use one as a daily driver. My only concern would be vandalism from those who think it's perverted, or WTF ever some people might think.

And I just noticed some of the models of Itasha cars (http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%82%B7%E3%83%BC%EF%BD%A5%E3%82%B7%E3%83%BC%EF%B D%A5%E3%83%94%E3%83%BC-%E3%80%8C%E3%81%8D%E3%82%83%E3%82%89%E3%82%B3%E3%8 3%B3%E3%80%8D-%E3%83%9E%E3%82%AF%E3%83%AD%E3%82%B9F-%E3%82%AF%E3%83%A9%E3%83%B3%E3%83%BB%E3%82%AF%E3%8 3%A9%E3%83%B3/dp/B001JQKSYM/ref=pd_sim_t_3). I was actually wondering this just the another day.. That if it was possible to get a car like this. Still.. the question is, how the hell do you get one like this... Order one from Japan, lol ?

I would want a car with anime graphics.. But there's exactly what I was thinking like someone mentioned above... My car could experience some extreme vandalism by some people who think anime is perverted or something x_x.. ( And I'd certainly receive '' WTF '' looks ''... lol

Edit : Oh yes I was wondering something.. If the anime is licensed wouldn't it be like.. illegal or something to have such graphics on your car ?..

They are basically decals that can be applied to any kind of car. Any shop that can print large vinyl sheets could probably make them.

While the other pics are real authentic itasha jobs, the winged van isn't -- some wannabe just grabbed the pic and then went on pasting graphics he could find, with satirical results.

The graphics on the van looked as if they've been stretched unnaturally and out of symmetry; the shading seems a bit off; the bumper sticker below... looks as if it was glowing or slightly washed out; and oh, on the side door, the doofus pasted his face on it.

By the way, I used Adobe Photoshop for 10 years, 6 years of which is at work where I've been doing digital touchup and manipulation on photos, paying much attention to detail. So I can spot a fake after a few seconds.

If it weren't so damn embarrassing, I'd rock that shit too...

Let me revise that; I'd rock these cars in my garage or on a show floor...

Driving one of these as your daily driver is a surefire way to prevent yourself from getting laid...As cool as they are, they're obviously meant for show, and definitely not to pick up chicks...

Besides, with that kind of decal job and what it would cost to get one done, I'd be pissed as hell if someone decided to be an asshole and scratch the crap out of the car...

Quality over quantity, man. Assuming that your art selection attracts the right type of anime fan, any chick you do get has a high chance of being a keeper. I'd recommend keeping some miko and catgirl outfits in the back.

I can see the other practical concerns, though: vandalism, getting more attention than you're comfortable with, people considering you a pervert (or even worse, a lolicon), etc...

Also, I think I might find it hard selecting an image to use... a lot of my favourite anime pictures tend to be portraits, which don't fit most cars that well, especially if you want to do a full body decal job instead of just the hood. And if you use multiple images, I imagine merging colour schemes, backgrounds, etc. would be a headache.

As for the Wired article... that Lamborghini is owned by an erogame developer? I didn't realize you could make that much money doing that.

While I did argue that such a car might actually get the attention of the kind of girl I like, I'm actually not sure I'd want one. I love the look of these and I love anime, but I'm not big on calling attention to those facts.

I am not a regular on this forum which can by made obvious just by my forced title.

Though i am in fact, A very big car enthusiast and it pains me to see when someones hard work is mocked or called fake.

In reference to the van above, the one a majority of you seem to think is photo shopped. It is in fact not. The creator of that car participates in more then one type of style. Some "Itasha" but more then anything he partakes in a style we call "Bosozuko".

Most of the boso's enjoy the idea of stretching and exaggerating their imagination by projecting such extremes onto their cars. Mostly done on Scion's and Mini Vans, any car can be modified to fit "Bosozuko's" extreme retro style.

Remember many different people have different tastes in art.

Art is resistance.

It has been a pleasure.

You know, I used to think this kind of stuff was cool at first, but the more I look at them, the more tacky they look to me...I already think it's kind of dumb when you got some idiot slapping an entire menu of "sponsorship" stickers to their car, so it gets worse when you start delving into the full body wraps and large-scale stickers, with the profile going through the roof when you start throwing characters in the mix...

And then I realize; They're just fucking decals...

Why the hell can't someone just make a tasteful one without going overboard in the character advertisement the people from ISS could see?

My next car is going to be a LanEvo, possibly an VIII or a IX and the last thing I'd do to it would slander it with images of my favourite anime characters...

The most I'd probably do to it with decals would either be some Ralliart decals on the the front windhshield and behind the front wheel wells and probably a "EMPEROR" sticker on the back window for Initial D nostalgia... =D

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/48/166495612_bdb281b0c3.jpg?v=0
http://www.flickr.com/photos/andrecawagas/166495612/ (note: Flickr can't allow image leech)
Most of the art is done through the use of colored plastic stickers, available in 6" wide rolls, costing P35 (72 US cents) per foot, an average jeepney using between 150 to 220 feet, painstakingly and economically cut into design and seamlessly applied to the outside metal work, the labor cost ranging from P2,500 to P3,500 (about US$51 to US$71).

Nice. Do post pics when you get it. I'm not a big Evo fan, but if IX is the one I'm thinking of, it's a nice looking car.

Without a Garage, you're probably asking for trouble, these are basicly 'peacock' cars, just to show off

1 thing remains true, if you have the graphics, but not the performance, you're riding around in a cartoon ^^

Personally, I love these kind of cars

If it's a Silvia, then from the pics you had in the first link it looks like it's one of the older versions. 14 or maybe 13.

The current S-15 is actually my favorite car and has been for a while. I'm going to have to get one when I go back to Japan. And maybe an RX-7 too (the FD version, I think). Most S-15's you see in pictures are mods, but I actually prefer the stock version for the most part. Especially the spoiler.

Not too knock someone but I find it hard to believe that a 19 year old can afford a EVO without someone buying it for them. You'll be saving a long time. I know I'm in the process of buying one and can afford one cash but until I find the color, condition, and price I want I'll wait. Since I hate the X model and the new STI hatch design.

Would I rock anime decals like those on my car maybe. Depending on the car, but I don't know if I would trust my local decal shop to make ones of the same quality as in japan or find a person to put them on.

I'd be more worried about the paint job if you ever took them off. Does it leave any damage?

Now I thought Otaku didn't have enough money to paint their cars! Let alone own one.

Itasha (http://thewondrous.com/2009/08/20-photos-of-unusual-japanese-itasha-trend/)

What's sad is I only recognize less than half of the entries. I can see there is a major Haruhi otaku in there (The one with the 14" DOLL!)

Who's the full sized doll in red I wonder, I don't recognize the uniform.

As sad as it is I've never heard of this or seen it until I saw this thread

While I'd be the first to admit that pasting jailbait looking girls on your car could get you considered a pervert, I seriously doubt that most people are going to be connecting you to kiddy porn for it.

Here's my question though as men driving a car you could be considered a pervert and it being frowned upon however what if in my case your a girl driving a car like this would it be more accepted?

Driving one of these as your daily driver is a surefire way to prevent yourself from getting laid...As cool as they are, they're obviously meant for show, and definitely not to pick up chicks...

Though this is true of most women I know if I saw a guy drive up in a car like this I'd be the first to start hitting on him.

Anyway that Lamborghini is just to awsome and not just cause its a Lamborghini. I might consider this in the future when I have more money I've already thought up a few designs and themes that would be cool. I doubt I'd ever do something to the extent these people do though.

That's a nice car..

For Gunslinger Girl wallpapers, check here (http://hakurizai.blog100.fc2.com/blog-entry-111.html).

And to make posters out of it, just use MS Paint and crop until you are satisfied. Since these are all high-resolution, you may have to reduce the size before doing cropping, otherwise it may be larger than your screen.

As for Haruhi, you got to be a little more specific as that there seems to be hundreds to thousands of wallpapers for that series as opposed to the rare Gunslinger Girl.

Truthfully, even though I like really like the Gunslinger Girl poster, I think Haruhi would better fit the car. Something more fun and less serious matches the toyota better. IMHO the GSG image would work on a car like the previously shown Nitro+ guy's Z06 with the Phantom graphics
http://ascii.jp/elem/000/000/217/217950/

.. But that's just my impression right now. Just go with what you like and more power to you if you can make the GSG image work for your car

http://ascii.jp/elem/000/000/217/217950/

.. But that's just my impression right now. Just go with what you like and more power to you if you can make the GSG image work for your car

I agree, it seems that my car is to stump (?) for a picture like the GSG to fit nicely, but I'll try to paint some, and we'll se. I have to look into the haruhi thing too.

Edit: Alrighty, I've done some painting, and it turned out quite good, after my opinion at least. Remember now.. I'm not very good at... MS paint... :P What do you folks think?

That truck looks really nice!!!

I wonder how much time was spent decorating it. Probably several hours..

Then again, it could possibly take more than a day as that paint takes awhile to dry...

Thanks for the help, will do some MS painting now :) As for the Haruhi, I'm thinking perhaps a black and white picture of her face, but i'm not sure yet. I don't want her whole body, upper body at most, or else it will be too small.

There is a total of 205 high-resolution wallpapers on this page which is a merge of all 8 pages. It might take awhile to load as that the average size of each wallpaper is around a meg or two, not too sure about that. Hope you find what you are looking for though.. :)

I really like the last one, but it feels kinda empty for the rest of the car. Thinking I have to add some to it, any ideas? And should I have the same picture on both sides? I can't have picture on one side only, cuz' it won't flooow :p

How about just add words of some sort related to the Haruhi series like everybody else who do itasha nowadays? Just check my previous posts and you will get the idea..

Now with the mockups, the GSG actually does look pretty good. It flows very well probably because of its directionality and how it crosses from back to front door. I like the integration of the nozzle fire with front door handle :D The last one (Haruhi) looks good too but like you said a bit bare.. probably because it seems relegated to the passenger door. I suppose you could add more of background or other characters if you want busier look.

Yeah, I agree, I think the GSG looks pretty cool, but I'll have to make it a bit bigger I think, we'll see. I'll be working on some more later today. As for the Haruhi I'll try to figure it out, some background, another picture with more "flow", or I'll just use the words as you said Shadow, I've seen it on almost every itasha I've ever seen, so I guess thats what you're supposed to do.. I'll try to post more. Right now it's a 50-50 Haruhi and GSGpic.

Pimp my Ride ? :D ( jk )

No really though, shouldn't any place that specializes in customizing the visuals of cars do ? I mean, what does it matter wether it's an anime character or a tribal symbol, if you provide with them with the material.

( I might be totally wrong about the above though.. But I highly doubt that you will find a place that specializes only in itasha from US )

You should just search for a company that sells decals. Some of them, I know, let you send them your image of whatever, and they'll print it out for you. Also, advertising companies could also probably fix something for you since many put their advertisement on cars and such. I'd go for the decals though, since they probably have more experience in similar stuff.

Surely some of you haven't had your head stuck in a cultural rut; Back when "The Fast and the Furious" and the import tuner scene were all the rage as it was almost a decade ago, many tuner cars had body graphics with manufacturers to create such just as common...Of course, that was back in 2001, and nobody does that shit anymore, but there are still manufacturers that cater to whatever lingering demand there still is...

I mean, hell, if you can get a tacky graphic decals made to run down the profile of your car, then you sure as hell can get a tacky itasha decals to run the entire area of the car...

What specific company would do such a thing? Damned if I know; That's not my market... :p

npcomplete
2009-08-27, 07:08
You'd definitely need to find one of those companies working for ad agencies like PiiCii mentioned to make one for you since they specialize in making large ones that cover the entire car, including ones that can be seen through from the inside out to cover windows.

I'm also wondering if I should have the same picture on both sides of the car.. is that okay, or should I have different pictures, but similar "look"..?

Cars in America rarely do have something similar to itasha but the pictures are usually either flames or skulls. Don't know why anybody would want to add skulls to a very nice-looking car though. For that matter, people who are looking to add itasha onto their cars can just go the places where they add skulls. I think, all you got to do is pay some extra fees and it should be okay.

http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/4474/haruhi2v2.jpg

This one looks good!

Same picture on both sides would look great but I have seen itasha in which they have different pictures and keywords all over the places.

Well, if you really like skulls, then I understand why you would put it on your car. Likewise, if you really like anime/manga, then why not put that on your car as well.

Oh, and I think I'll go with that picture there. Looks good I think, and my girlfriend likes it too. Now all we have to do is find a place to put it on, and the money to buy it. Should be done within a month I think... hope, at least. It needs to be done before the next con at least :)

Negative, more to the point... decals actually preserve your paint job and protect it from harmful weather. (Fullwraps)

Not too sure about putting a person on a car, though I would like to put symbols from an anime on my car. Such as a Mid-Childian circle, a transmutation circle, and/or logos from various anime (Lucky Star star, CLANNAD Dango, SOS-Dan logo, one of Yukari's gaps, that sort of thing).

it's 'painful' in a way that it makes you wonder how much they spent:heh:

The following pics are called Donks, Box & Bubble. I'm not sure where it started but they seem to be prevalent in the Southeast and Southwest US. I hope to see some anime graphics in the future, but right now corporate logos and famous products are dominating this DBB scene (and non sponsored btw)

1) don't hotlink images, it steals bandwidth from other sites. copy the image to an image provider and thumbnail it here. You don't have to use HTML code, image sites and AS provide simple tools for doing this. My 75 year old aunt can do it - so can anyone else :) When you upload an image to Imageshack, for example, it PROVIDES you with the thumbnail code to insert in your post.

2) SOME japanese is fine but its nice when a translation is provided - this is an English forum (by forum rules). 'naruhodo .... shoganai'

^Picture is broken. Comes up with error if you try to go to the website, the blog or the picture has disappeared.

It's called thumbnail and I don't think you can use it unless you upload the image to image hosting website and link the image here with their thumbnail HTML code.

So, you can't see the image in above my post?
I uploaded from Imageshack. How is it?

Thank you! OK. I will search Imageshack at the first.
Just small correction. I mean you, anime fan outside of Japan can see much more picture or what you want if you can search with Japanese. For sure, I understand I should write English here and I can do it except imageshock(I mean I am not sure I can understand the complex explanation or not). Anyway, thank you for the information!!

I've spent a couple of years as a hobby trying to learn Japanese - I can safely say I've reached the level of a 3rd grader who also knows a few grownup words. Usually, just "googling" for itasha (いたしゃ) gets me all the images I need :) Is there a kanji for いたしゃ?

Example images: http://www.google.com/images?q=(いたしゃ&oe=utf-8)

So, I think your Japanese is much better than my English. I think I know English that is needed for my work as engineer. But I don't know many slungs that I need for smooth communication here like "kinda"...What is kinda? or "lol".
But I'm trying to learn them now. Thank you for your paicience.

I just can pick up some appropriate word for search because I'm Japanese.
like
"痛車" plus "作り方" will give you how to make itasha.
And the result give me the idea searching "痛車" plus "ステッカー" to search how to make stickers for itasha. Or I can even search company who can make stickers for me.
I can also search with "痛車" plus "フェラーリ"(ferrari) or "ポルシェ"(porshe) for some cool itasha pictures.
And I know the words to get some more pictures for free from Japanese Otaku.
I know....I don't want to write them here. I don't want to get any more infraction.

It's just because my eye have ability to scan complex kanji and can pick up appropriate site from the search result quickly depending on long time training for Japanese from I was born as same as you have same ability for English.

Thank you for nice discussion! I like discussion with other culture peple. It's is excitig.:D

Oh, I forgot to something important. Is my way for pictures is OK for this forum? Thank you teacher!

Sorry I was wrong, that in above was not I really felt.
Before about the main topic. Please understand I'm not complaining to change your rule or policy and I understand I must follow your rules for sure.
And this forum is definetely worthful for me to understand I took more than two weeks to find
Here is just my observation.
What I felt is English forum is much more strict than Japanese one. As long as I know, Japanese forum does not remove post unless they contain obviously illegal site link or spam like they have link to illigal download site or the post like "Do you want to date with pretty girl?" to lucky star thread.
None of normal link won't be removed from the thread as long as the comment has something about the thread topic. So, we can find almost everything from the Japanes forum.
I think your way of keeping rule is very good. It's follow global standard. I just felt it is inconvenient because I used to Japanese forum.
So, I said "You can look much more pictures only you can use Japanese...."

Hope I did correct explanation.

In my honest opinion........itasha are a little too shameless to own and actually drive around in. It feels kinda like one step down from naming a child after an anime character....:heh:

I'd be afraid of vandalism as well from anime-hating ass-faces.

On the other hand, you'd have a huge advantage: the car would never be hard to find in a parking lot!! :D

痛車

.........あの.....:twitch:

Why is the first kanji (ita) the one you use for "pain"? That's most.........odd. XD;

I agree with you. I'm also not brave enough to decorate my car like that.
Actually, we don't have many itasha even in Japan. Even itasha graphics festa at odaiba that is the biggest itasha event, there would be only 1000 itashas. It is only less than 0.01percent of the all car from there are 40,000,000 cars in Japan.
So, I can say it is really otaku's work that is getting popular and popular recently.
But I really like to look the picuture from magazine, DVD or you tube.
And making process of them is so great!!

Here is translated Japanese thread talking about how to translate itai to English
Hope it help you;)

What is itai(痛い) for itasha or Otaku?2011/01/27()[Edit]

As you know, Itasha can be devided to "Ita" and "sha".
And "Ita"= 痛 = pain, "sha"= 車 =car
Then, if we translate it very direct, Itasha is pain car.

But when we use "Itai" for Otaku or itasha, it has more meaning except pain.
I believe it would mean "something/someone to make the others unconfortable(painful) feeling" simply.
But there is more nuance I can't express with this word.

But I found very interesting thread.
This is the thread that Japanese discussed how to express "itai" in English.

I translated japanese comment with Blue color

--------------------------------------------------------------------

No.8 (Best answer) mabomk

I considered many cases....And this is the final answer.

He makes me feel guilty of his poor saying

make oneself feel frustrated

make oneself feel flat

make oneself feel uneasy

make oneself feel perplexed (**)

make oneself feel cheap (*)

make oneself feel choked (*)
make oneself feel clumsy (***)
make oneself feel uncomfortable (***)
make oneself feel dispirited (***)

(***)...would be very close

From encourage → spirit
discourage → dispirit
discouraging → dispiriting person

How about this answer? Sir, please say yes even though you still have complaint. Thank you for your understanding.

Modification at the last. Regarding the answer No.4

pitty.....typo would be better「pitty→pitiful」

No.6 mabomk

I'm answer No.4 and 5. Sorry for many response. I breakthroughed the another answer from your response to answer Np.1 "I'm not quite sure the meaning but believe it is from Katahara-ga-itai. In the other word, we say "itai" when we feel like running away or feel sort of awkward when we see the person. And we say "itai someone" to express the person like that.

pathetic

85% right. But the rest 15% is difficult to express....then...how about that? 90% right?

embarrassing yet pathetic

Please be satisfied with that! Local governor!!

No.5 mabomk

I'm answer No.4

It is not easy word to express "itai person" with one or two phrase. Then please refer the phrase below to think about it. You would slso have the another way to ask some native English speaker "How do you express the person like that in English"?

out of fashion/outdated

be ignorant of oneself

insensitive ignorance

illiterate

insensitively illiterate embarrassing guy

can not read the atmosphere

spoil the atmosphere

create the soil-the-whole-atmosphere mood

create the aura of embarrassment around oneself

No.4 mabomk

Generally, we say "itai person" about whom "make someone feel ashamed without expectation. Then, 65% would be right with "embarrass" -> "embarassing". And the rest 35% would be " he dressed very out of vogue. Does he really think it trend? He is itai". This can't be expressed with only pitty.

embarrass
・My father embarrasses me when I introduce him to my friends.
em・bar・rass

No.3 noname

It is also new for me that "itai" has another meaning except pain.
In conclusion, does it mean "lame-ass, pain-in-the-ass, annoying" ?
If so, we often use disgusting.
It is used like Disgusting ! or Disgusting my boss !

No.2 Reffy
The best idea can't come up to me soon. If we think the person who have itasha as ashamed. It would be "Shameless" . If it indicate the person who can't feel mood and give the other people uncomfortable feeling, it would be "nuisance". Or if it indicate cool person who persist his/her opinion without having influence from others, It would be "Mania"

No.1 DIooggoo

>Itai hito
>itasha
What is the meaning of them in Japanese? I can't translate it because I don't know the word.

日本人なんですか? うらやましい。。。

We generally don't use the English translations of the names of anime (日本語のほうがかっこいいですからね).

So most people just use "Ore no imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ganai" (In English: There's No Way My Little Sister Can Be This cute).

"とある魔術の禁書目録" is "Toaru Majutsu No Index" (In English: A Certain Magical Index)

"神のみぞ知る世界" is "Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai" (In English: "The World God Only Knows" ).

"バクマン" is just "Bakuman" (In English: "baku" comes from 爆発/博奕/獏 and "man" from 漫画 so it's hard to give a specific translation).

Evangelion can be shortened to just Eva.

You can write "Kaminomi" and "Orenoimouto" and people who have watched it will understand you. But if you write "Toaru", people might be confused whether you're talking about Index or "とある科学の超電磁砲".

We also have petit itasha, not only deep one like full wrapping.
The popular way would be put magnet(sometimes seal sticker) on fill opening.

Japan still have gas station that have filling service. Now, you can understand why we put seal sticker on fill opening. The service guy should face the anime girl when they do work.
Therefore, the comment of the character is also important as same as the picture to make the service guy smile.

Ah, that's pretty expensive. I don't think I would be able to afford it.

But do people really drive around in these cars? (恥ずかしくないの?)Or are they just for showing off at Comiket and things?

This is magical girl....Thank you. This character is also used often for itasha

Taiga is as cute as ever. 下に何が書かれていますか?レギュラーは。。。なに?
レギュラーは遺憾だわ=Regular is very regretful
Japanese politician use this phrase VERY much.

Ah, that's pretty expensive. I don't think I would be able to afford it.

But do people really drive around in these cars? (恥ずかしくないの?)Or are they just for showing off at Comiket and things
Some people cost 10,000,000 yen for their itasha.
This is the common conversation at itasha graphics festa 2010
"Oh, it does cost 10,000,000yen doesn't it?" "Yes, but I couldn't stop to buy it"

From the interview for itasha owner.
At the first, they did feel embarrassed. But attracting attention changed to excitement.
This is also from interview
"I do because I like"
"Having a distinct design is worth for itasha"

Actually, itasha is categorised to official itasha and private itasha.
Official itasha is made by company or shop like game prduction, magagine publisher to promote their product as same as itasha bus. They often coraborate cosplaying.

I think macross frontier official itasha is the one of the cool one.

I just want them to make it with ferrari

Okay people... I'm new to this forum... so please be kind... First post here....

I have a 1991 Toyota Supra Turbo with a 1.5 jzgte engine... heavily modified / upgraded... should be pushing 450~500 rwph when I get back to the states... currently away on a shitty vacation to Afghanistan. Place friggin sucks.

Anyhow, I've researched "itasha" for the last year.

I am going to get it done to my car within the next 6 months or so.

Just having problems finding a good graphic design artist. Seriously a pain in the rear.

Other than the artist, already have a good vinly shop in mind. Just a matter of getting it done.

Haven't seen any Itasha on the East Coast yet... well... absolutely none in NC anyhow... of course been gone for a good minute.

Yes vinyl decal sticker the 2 sides was $900 the hood was $160 to wrap whole car would be around $2000 if u put on urself they put on charge u even more . I get for free now I work there its cheaper then a paint job think it was $4000 to do sides and it would be permit net. vinyl u can change it putting new ones on side

Question is, what kind of resolution do you need for the best results...

Just went to the vinyl shop's website... they say 1/4 scale with 300 dpi is best. I don't know. Want maximum awesomeness. So what really is the best scale and size?

I am sorry I can't see the pictures of the link above... being deployed to Afghanistan... many websites are blocked.

Anyway to upload those Itasha pics of your car here or somewhere else?

Resolution is relative to size so even if it is 300dpi if the size of the picture is 4X4 when blown up to 12X12 then the dpi would be reduced to 100 dpi.
When using a downloaded picture be sure to create a scalar version so the picture does not reduce resolution in the blow-up process.

Find a shop to make you the graphics or make it yourself. Itashas are mostly one-offs.
