Yeah mate. I visited one of the KyoAni studios, but didn't go in any further than the outside door. There was no one around, and there was a 'No Photos' sign on the outer door as well, so I did what any KyoAni fanboy does and takes a picture anyway.
I went to the KyoAni shop a floor below as well, and got some nice goodies.
It was actually quite easy to get to from the actual city of Kyoto. Catch a train out on the Nara line, get off at Kohata station, and when you get off the platform you'll see the first KyoAni building.
Walk down the main street into the main part of the town, and you'll soon see the second KyoAni building with the shop and studio.
