Those .45s: Ebony and Ivory?
As I understand Ayoub's lecture, of a study the Lethal Force Institute did of gunfights in the US, they suggested hollowpoint for police/civilian use, since most threats aren't using body armor. Of course, for a military, you'd probably need hardball in case of armor (apart from the Geneva convention banning hollowpoints for military use).
What I find amusing is that there's a whole gun culture proclaiming the .45 as tops, and even Ayoub thinks it's overrated; his carry is a 9mm. On the other hand, Col. jeffmCooper, the codifier of the Modern Technique, swears by .45. Ah, well, to each their own; from what I've read, the Modern Technique also acknowledges that not only do you need a good round, you also need to hit something important.
...no point having the Konisch if you miss, and no point having the Zis if it can't do enough damage. So the answer is the 122mm derp!
