Light Novel Spoiler Discussion
This thread is for discussion of Novel!Yozora.
It really stinks that we probably won't get to see the Yozora-focused parts of the novel this season. I hope AIC does gives three extra episodes later on like what happened with OreImo.
Okay, to preface this second part, I must let it be known that I am a shipper.
So, just ignore this part if you hate shipping. But when I read the summaries of the novels, it seems to me that while Sena likes Kodaka, her feelings aren't as strong as Yozora's. Basically, it feels more like Yozora is the main heroine for the romance part of the story. Yes, Sena and Kodaka are engaged, but I have a feeling that that aspect is just a red herring. ....Or maybe I'm just blindly shipping YozoraXKodaka. lol
You're not the only shipper here. KodakaxYozora for me too.
You're definitely right about Yozora's feelings as stronger. She's almost obsessed with winning over Kodaka. And it is pretty obvious that the novel does lean more towards KodakaxYozora.
Quite frankly, I've never seen pre-arranged marriage of this kind succeed. It would be a pretty weak reason for Kodaka and Sena to get together.
@VVolf: :fistbump: Glad to know I'm not the only one that thinks that about the novel! It's too bad the anime doesn't convey what the manga and novel do.
Ah, I've already accepted the fact that the anime is more catered for Sena/Kobato fans, which is why I stick to the novels.
The KodakaxYozora hints/moments become much more obvious/dominant in the later novels (from the 4th onward). I'm pretty much convinced that they're the canon couple now.
Well, Yozora had this haruhi effect in both mediums - namely other members of the club defer to her for the final say in most things, despite no rules that states she's the boss, or Sena verbally disputing Yozora's leadership (but acting the other way regardless). In real life that's called charisma however I do not believe Yozora is particularly charismatic so it has to be the main character effect.
As for Sena's feelings, she 1. doesn't quite understand her affection for Kodaka yet, (and all her actions are subconscious, it just so happens she's action oriented), and torn between Yozora/Kodaka as she wanted both. Yozora knows what she wants, thought what she wants is a bit detached from reality and idealistic, but her scheming doesn't always work out and she's not direct enough.
Haha, that's definitely is the main character effect. Yozora is easily the most important character in the series and the one who drives the story the most.
Gonna have to argue on the part where Yozora knows what she wants, specifically on what kind of relationship she wants with Kodaka. After reading all seven novels, she has given me the feeling that she simply cannot separate friendship with romance. Er...I'm not gonna spoil anything here, but she's kind of always torn between trying to rebuild her lost friendship with Kodaka yet at the same time, wanting to become more intimate with him.
And the reason why her scheming doesn't work out? She never considers the consequences, as in she schemes (or manipulate) into making things happen, yet never bothers to realize what might ensue afterwards. Hence why a lot of things blew up in her face.
She doesn't understand the concept of friendship, with little experience of it. To Yozora friendship is this together forever always support each other relationship that's very idealistic. Her definition of a friend is like the ultimate companion that in reality probably overreaches the obligation of even a partner yet non of the intimacy aspect because she's sensitive to it all. So she knows what she wants except that's not how the world works.
Wouldn't say she doesn't consider the consequences but like Sena she doesn't have empathy so cannot read/expect the reaction of other people. She's a typical nerd in the sense she prefer to read instructions/descriptions rather than experience something first hand. Her dress sense (or lackof) are from the internet, or for example she didn't know Yukimura's female butler appearance is the current 'in' thing.
Hm, yeah, that definitely sounds like Yozora (her actions in the later novels make a lot more sense now. Thanks). Reminds me of Rika's comment of her, "You're surprisingly pure-minded, aren't you? Yozora-senpai." She really is, almost bordering on naivete.
But with your explanation, I'm also beginning to feel really torn as to what exactly does she wants with Kodaka. Friendship? Romance (bromance?)? I mean, the concept that Yozora doesn't fully understand friendship (which in fact can be said about everyone in the Neighbour's club) can be similarly applied to her vision of romance/love, no? Does she even know which is it she wants with him?
And seeing as you seem to be pretty far in the novels, why'd you think in the sixth novel, she'd immediately change her tomboyish clothes (that even Kodaka commented that it looked sexy on her) into a plain PE uniform, right after knowing it wasn't supposed to make her look like a boy? Her actions make it sound like she's wanting to rebuild their friendship, but the constant blushes and whispers of affection suggests otherwise. That is why I said she doesn't know what she wants.
As for your second statement, basically Yozora has problems with interpreting things, huh? Meh, I doubt she even understands herself.
How do you all feel about Yozora's transition into a more "dere" character? Do you feel it was abrupt or do you feel that it was developed properly?
