i know this is a ranka club but is it also possible to talk about sheryl's character and also her relationship with alto? I’m just curious of how you guys view her character? I know some of you also like Sheryl and maybe you have ideas as to why she might end up with alto. I don’t like her character so again I might be bias I’m ok if she end up with alto though if given a solid proof of their feelings towards each other not only the intimate moment which sheryl initiated like the kissing and other stuff but more than that I hope. Speaking of Sheryl, in the coming up movie I wonder what’s her personality like now that she is totally healed will she back from her old self I remember her acting high and superior and a bit bitchy..lol.. or will she turn as what the Sheryl fans described her??? I’m getting excited..

Well , honestly I don't see the use of creating a thread here for Sheryl's character since we all have here the same opinion on her , and that's why we are rooting for Ranka in the serie .
But I will answer the question about her relationship with Alto : Over than friendly, there is none

Although I want to agree with you Seifall, I still believe that Alto might have some feelings for Sheryl past just friends. I still believe that Alto truly loves Ranka though, because of everything they went through and the suffering that Alto went through deciding whether or not to kill Ranka in order to save Frontier. More than likely though, I still think that Alto just sees her as a friend but I'd rather not jinx anything and wait for the movie to see if they really do give us an ending xD

Oh wow...A Sheryl thread? I know noone here is going to, but just a reminder in the future (so that I won't repeat myself anymore), no Sheryl bashing please. Because you know? We're not spiteful enough to stoop to that level. Plus, it's kinda a pathetic behavior. Last thing I want is for new fans to start hating on Ranka because of her fans.

Since we're talking about Sheryl's relationship with Alto, I think she was a role model to both Alto and Ranka, and Alto respected that about her. That's why he was so frustrated to see Sheryl fall down the dumps and was so eager to wake her up. Not only that, Alto also saw his mom in Sheryl which also explained why he was swayed when he learned of her sickness. The thing here is, Alto didn't back out on his words regardless of how he really felt about Ranka's departure (the "be a man or an adult" decision). Instead of Alto, it was Sheryl who had to let him go because she knew he stayed with her not because of a romantic reason. I think the 2nd stanza of Triangler speaks a lot. If you ask me, I think Alto's feelings for Sheryl during the show was borderline platonic. Borderline. On the fence. It's hard to explain myself cuz of the space limit sigh. -_-

I'll try to post my thoughts in the other cool threads later. Unfortunately, I've been caught by an awful monster called spring semester so sorry if I'm a little inactive. I'm glad our fanclub is getting a little livelier. Now all we need is decoration. Someone pm Lowegear lol

Double posting: As for the movie, I think Sheryl and Klan will get more screentime.

I've always thought the same when it came to Alto seeing his mother's suffering in Sheryl. Alto was angry that he couldn't help his mother when she was dying and he wanted to do everything he could to comfort Sheryl in her final moments.

and about sherly character I think she's a great character but at some point she too aggressive and I prefer a more passive girl... or a girl that not to aggressive. Because a too much aggressive girl usually will turn man into defensive mode just like Alto lol...

Oh we ALL wish for a resolve to the love triangle because it will at least calm the discussion of the pairings but I foresee a more violent Ranka bashing if Alto chooses Ranka in the movie (that is if the movie resolves the LT.) As for Michel, I think his death was just too graceful and epic for them to keep him alive, I think his death was such a beautiful scene although I really felt bad for Klan Klan, it was kind of a sacrifice for true love.

By the way, you're not offending the other side here lol. This is all your opinion and if you feel that way then I don't think you'll offend anyone xD

Wow ani_d how kind of you to say no bashing Sheryl don’t you think this is the thread and chance for all the ranka fans to bash Sheryl after what the Sheryl fans did to ranka. I don’t think it’s pathetic since we didn’t start it if someone will bash so be it after all we have different opinion on Sheryl.
I don’t see Sheryl as role model to both alto and ranka i haven’t forgotten how she acted in the earlier episodes but yeah alto and ranka had high respect on her. So, was it only respect that makes him goes back to the mansion or was there a part of him that makes him want to be with her? Want to know more about her? Or it will be nice to say he went there only to check on her. But that was really surprising sight seeing alto crawling to get into the mansion just to see Sheryl. The moment also when Alto embraced her I think there was really something it doesn’t look like a friendly hugged to me but more of a lover. How about the kisses which Sheryl initiated does it have any effect on alto? I bit there is. He totally forgot about ranka chan lol… I bit Sheryl kiss was like a drug that makes alto forgot whom he truly love..lol..

No I still don't think it's right to bash Sheryl even if our opinions differ because we have to show better class than that. Alto has mixed feelings about Sheryl in my opinion, I think he has some feelings for Sheryl but when it comes down to it, I believe he has more genuine feelings for Ranka. When Ranka left, he had no one else but Sheryl and also she was dying from a fatal disease, so he had to stay by her side, I know I wouldn't leave a dying friend behind.

As for the kisses, I feel it was just desperate attempts to force Alto to love her. Although she kept pushing Alto away, it was more because she knew he had no future with her and not because she felt Ranka deserved Alto. Ranka understood Alto's mixed feelings for Sheryl so that's why Ranka hesitated to say anything to him, this came from the conversation Ranka had with Nanase. Ranka said "it's too early" I believe.

Well I do no post here, like in the Ranka Lee discussion thread but you surprise me guys, most of all gentlewater,
I for my part, do not hate Sheryl, I just don't care about her. I must, say though that in the episode 11, I didn't like at all what she did to Ranka in flying with Alto to Galia IV even though she knew Ranka wanted to invite him to her concert. That was just pretty low for " the "galactic fairy" . Add to that when she sneaked into SMS quarter for Alto like the girl in a movie who just can't help but stick to the guy, with the slap she gave to Ranka( pretty useless, thats why we had episode 25 ^_^), her kissing Alto in the 24 even though he didn't react she just continued, I had pity for her then.
But that's what they wanted with changing her from the strong woman Sheryl Nome to the weak, dying woman for which we(All fans) couldn't have others feelings than compassion,pity.
So yes I do not hate her, I just think her character was so unreal, and shallow compared to Ranka.
In SDF I couldn't stand Minmei from the start, and didn't care about Misa. But when Misa started to act the role of the strong/sensible woman, my compass changed quiclky of direction. I didn't care about Minmei but just couldn't support Misa. When Hikaru ended up with her I just laughed ^_^ <<< They formed a perfect couple in my opinion
But in MF it's different, Sheryl always said she didn't have friends but did she try to make one ? no. She just wanted Alto, that's all. She came to Mihoshi and could make friends but no, she was more busy to find Alto.
I do not like this kind of behaviour, so her character since the beginning was not "cool" enough for me.
OK I know Ranka was always "Alto kun Alto kun ..." but it was mutual, they texted SMS to each others, he rescued her many times, he wanted ONLY<<< to protect Ranka, he said it in the 23.
But Sheryl ? What did he do for her ?! People love their couple.. My,my....
The guy just take off with Ranka in the sky Sheryl offered him and they still persist to pair them up ...
My god... Yes, I know, they slep together , and get dressed as quickly as Ranka when Ai kun made his move on her and transformed into a pokemon....
Sheryl is not a bad, bad character but she is not a godess too, she was too N-ome, too emo- Ne ?!

i guessed most of what you said were true apart from the kisses I don’t think it was desperate attempt at all not in any scenes I saw her kissing alto. Well, if we look back at the first time she kissed alto I think she did that only to give thanks to him or probably a message saying “hey I want to let you know that I’m interested in you” that sort of stuff. The scene which Sheryl kissed alto in the island I didn’t like it at all but still it wasn’t a desperate attempt it could be a challenge to ranka or encouragement in a not very nice manner. Now, one of the most intimate moments they had when they hugged together that was really troubling because they both wanted it alto offer support and Sheryl submit completely that’s how I looked at it. Sheryl wants to be with alto and wants alto to take noticed on her she wants him to be with her not because he pity her that’s why she keeps pushing him away but then her illness makes her vulnerable and weak and that due to her critical state her attitude change to the point of changing into different person and I think that was so believable. That was the time she rely on alto. But seeing alto being intimate with Sheryl makes me think that perhaps he only taking pity, sympathy but I don’t see any love to support his actions. When Sheryl got cut in her hands alto hesitated to help her because it was Sheryl who refused his help but then I was thinking if it was ranka I imagine alto to be in an overprotective manner. There is big difference how alto treat ranka compare with Sheryl. Now, the last time we saw Sheryl kissing alto I think it was almost real alto accepted and we’ll assume he responded to it I think that was it he had feelings for her after all seeing Sheryl that time I think she only wants to shut him up and let him feel how she felt towards him I guessed her message that time I want you to know that what ever happens I love you and will always love you. That scene was really touching indeed but what happened afterwards was also surprising when alto set off to rescue ranka because they say Sheryl asked him to this time I always remember what ani_d quote “ thinketh not and thou shall be blossom… “ let my feelings lead the way and I will fly… now this is the alto I knew he never change and he always like that when it concerned with ranka. In the last moment even if he said you were both my wings but we will never forget how he always protected and always risk his life so save ranka. And I think that is what love all about.

I know how you feel and I feel the same way too but not because of her character really it’s more of her fans who gone mad so even if you bash Sheryl a million times we always adore you so keep it up..lol… I know it pissed me also she got lots attention in the story but mostly main character especially the one with critical illness had more attention than the normal ones so we should understand that.

What so surprising about me seifall I only want to know what other people think about Sheryl I know I shouldn’t put this thread since it’s a ranka fan club and not macross fan club. But I can’t ask the Sheryl fan, can i? They think alto WAS IN LOVE with Sheryl in episode 12 just for the simple reason the “ but”… which alto uttered when trying to explain to Michael if he was trying to insist to stay with Sheryl because she was ill or because she was the one who brought him there, was it love????? But during the performance when ranka wink at all the people and that alto got struck by ranka's charm was it love it could be? Right? And to support that he said it was the “best present “.
Seifall when you said But Sheryl ? What did he do for her ?!This is what I’ve been trying to ask and what I’ve been searching for an answer but couldn’t get a definite answer. Really what did he do for her????

You're right, you can't ask them about that. But this thread is fine with me, I did think that we will have the same opinion and all but it's not the case at least,in some topics.
But Sheryl ? What did he do for her ?! << Except giving her a roof where to live and being her bodyguard /friend nothing as deep as when he was with Ranka.
And he stayed with her out of pity/compassion, she even said it in the 23...

In anime, I usually don’t care about who will end up with whom but I always had favourite. macros frontier is exceptional. It makes you want to root for your favourite and even want to fight for your ship. I watched so many anime and almost confident in romance aspect but in frontier romance I beginning to doubt. And then I think oh well, if alto will choose Sheryl it was like kimi ga nozomo eien ending feeling when I want the guy to end up with haruka but then he chose mitsuki at the end. It wasn’t that bad because they were living together it was expected to happen but I was a little disappointed. Earlier, I just watched to ova and was so satisfied about the ending it was haruka and that guy after all. I hope the ending of the macross movie will be same as this and it will very satisfying.

Somehow some way I think Kawamori might do something in the movie that will be genius lol. Sheryl will get more screen time but I don't know how much her character will change because she was portrayed somewhat well but of course there is always room for improvement. If Kawamori does give us a Alto and Ranka ending then I better see Alto make a move to kiss her this time around because the guy is too passive, he needs to move in and be romantic for once in his god damn life

People also seem to forget that the whole time that Alto was protecting Ranka, he was constantly risking his life for her and trying so hard to be the man in her life xD When Alto was actually trying to protect Sheryl, he was actually protecting all of Frontier along with Sheryl of course but Alto's decision to be there for Ranka was made by only him. Brera's interference kind of made Alto and Ranka's relationship harder, damn that brotherly jealousy xD

I think alto didn't give sheryl a roof where to live, because his brother is the one that give it... so in the end alto just became her bodyguard for the sake of pity...

I agree with you about Brera, he was a really jealous brother(also a pain in the ass) that always get between Alto and Ranka...

Are you guys talking about Alto's hug in 22 looking more romantic than platonic? I think that's one of the reason why I said Alto's bond with Sheryl is borderline platonic. The interviews did say that the news of Sheryl's death swayed Alto and to top it off, they even questioned if it was really "true" love. (Which I honestly think they wouldn't question it out of the blue if it really was lol) Also, you gotta look at how Alto acted afterwards though. He released a lot of pent up frustration near the end of 22. During AltoxSheryl's quiet dinner together, it was only Sheryl who was having fun. Alto was just there 'accompanying' her. Next episode, Alto insisted he'll go back to her, but when Sheryl kissed Alto for the last time, Alto couldn't respond. They closed in on Sheryl's hand on Alto's chest. She made a fist. No response. She had to grab Alto's shoulder. To me, it kind of signified that Sheryl really wants to hang onto Alto, but there's no reciprocation. That's why Sheryl had to end their "lovers game" and said go rescue Ranka. That's also why Sheryl cried last episode. Sheryl didn't want an Alto committing to her with complicated feelings for Ranka. Sheryl wanted an Alto who would be with her not because she was dying, but because he was in love with her.

If only they didn't rush episode 25. I seriously would have wanted to see a proper RankaxAlto conversation after that embarassing confession of Ranka to Alto in 21. The staff sure avoided it with the sing-off.

Lemme see if I understood. Platonic love is deep and spiritual but also chaste. So are you saying Alto doesn't respond sexually to Sheryl because he's in a Victorian style romance with her? Was this why Kawamori was saying about Alto loving both girls?

Well... Kawamori say Alto love both girl simply because he doesn't want to get chopped off(or worse) by "you-know-her" fans...
