1.DC or Marvel?
I always forget which one is which, but the one
without Batman, Superman, Spiderman etc.
2.Iron man or Captain America
Captain America
3. Star Trek or Star Wars
About a decade ago I would have said Star Wars, but due to the shitty prequel movies and the horrendous sequel movie aka The Worst Awakens that I actually thought was somehow worse than the any of the three prequel movies (I am aware I am in the minority of hating it that much) and the fact two more are coming which I am dreading, I will have to vote for Star Trek now.
4. Kirk or Picard
Picard.
5. Love Live or IM@S
**Incoming Offtopic**
Neither. But if you pointed a gun at me and asked me to choose, then I'll lean slightly to Im@s because Rin Shibuya is my waifu (albeit not one of my top ones as it almost purely on aethestics - slim, long hair, pretty face, blah blah people who know me know what type of girls I like ...).
I will say this though. I use to hate idol anime, at least the modern moeish ones since I category stuff like Macross, Perfect Blue or even Full Moon wo Sagashite in a different category.
But then a few years ago I watched Wake up
Budget Girls. Despite having a shoestring budget and the direction being a bit off, I very much liked it. Outside of something like Perfect Blue, it was the first idol anime (in modern times) that actually showed a little bit of the dark side of the idol industry but overall the tone was a heartwarming one. Enzo actually called Shirobako the "Wake up Girls of the anime industry with more budget and better execution" and I agree with him. WuG is essentially a bit like Shirobako and I possibly may have liked it as much as Shirobako if it didn't have the huge budget problems and the direction problems towards the end.
Then a few months ago I discovered Aikatsu. This one is almost pure "lighthearted/feel good" but because it's actually aimed for young girls I don't feel as "calculated" or "pandering" compared to most modern shows. It also had a generation thing going where the main characters actually switch halfway through the series and whilst the initial trio (Ichigo, Aoi, Ran) started at age 13, they are in their early 20s by the end of the series. And DAYUM did Aikatsu have some FANTASTIC character designs. Not gonna lie, this is one of the primary things that lured me to it. Move over Kyoani (not that I ever thought they were kings)/PA Works (they've actually gotten regressive
), the new moe titan is in town! But yeh, i watched 178 episodes of this in a matter of a little under 2 months and was the series that forced me to hand over "hipster/elitist" card for good.
So yeh, where's my Aikatsu v Wake up Girls choices instead
6.Macross or Gundam
Macross. Not even close. SDF Macross is a classic and one of my favourites of all time (and my first Waifu in Misa Hayase), Macross Plus and Zero showed how good OVA miniseries can be and like many others Macross Frontier was a great greatway intersection of both oldschool Macross fans and newschool fans. Also Sheryl Nome. Man, shes hot. Waifu material right there. I do like what I have seen of Delta so far, but I do understand (though not agree) why many Macross purists loathe it as I do think it has gotten too far into the moe/idol/magical girl direction.
Gundam? I'm mostly indifferent (of the ones I've tried) though I bloody hated Seed Destiny and 00, but Gundam Unicorn was fantastic and so was what I watched of Zeta.
7.Mari Okada: Thumbs up or Thumbs down?
Ah crap, this shitstorm of a topic again... ABORT. MISSION ABORT!
Not going to rant on too much since I've been spamming for years about it and because even I'm getting tired of it, but essentially I'm with Tempster. It's both a thumbs up and thumbs down.
Short story, if it has anything to do fantasy or sci-fi, GTFO. She's a fucking terrorist that will blow shit up and laugh like a maniac watching you suffer. Fractal, Aquarion, Black Rock Shooter, Wixoss... RUN FOR THE HILLS.
If it's youth drama that isn't too romance based (unfortunately, EVERY okada show has some romance) then it's usually good. Hanasaku Iroha, Anthem of the Heart and some of her adaption works like Wandering Son.
If it's more romance based... well.. flip a coin. True Tears was fantastic and still to this day my favourite Okada and PA Works show, but Nagi no Asu Akara wanted me to stab playdough for hours because the temptation to stab every character in the eye (minus Miuna and Hikar)u in that show was really strong. And then her adaption romcom works in Toradora and Sakurasou reminded me of the OC and One Tree Hill and made me want to forget those embarassing teenage years. BECAUSE FUCK STUPID TEEN ROMCOMS.
But hey I only watched two Okada shows in the past 3-4 years of which one was pretty good (Anthem of the Heart) so I'll just wait another 3-4 years to watch another good one!
That was a good raaaaant. Haven't had one in a while. Thanks Triple!
