So the Summer 2017 season is only a few weeks away now. Random C hasn't posted their preview yet but here's Anichart.

Centaur no Nayami: I've seen good buzz about this addition to the monster girls genre.
Isekai Shokudou: Basically, a restaurant that serves patrons from another world once a week. I've also seen good buzz about this one.
Netsuzou Trap -NTR-: I actually think two girls doing practice dating and discovering that they're more interested in each other than their boyfriends is an interesting premise. That title sets off big time alarm bells though.
Princess Principal: Not too sure about moe spies but apparently Okouchi is working on this so maybe it'll end up being crazy and fun. Also hopefully the moe will ensure he doesn't turn it into another Valverave.
Shoukoku no Altair: Fantasy based on Turkish history (supposedly something the creator of the source manga is knowledgeable about). That piques my interest.

Also Re:Creators, Rage of Bahamut: Virgin Soul, and Sakura Quest will be continuing. Could be a pretty good season.

Shameless plugging of my preview on the site I blog for ... but also laziness on my part of not wanting to rewrite the whole thing. XD

I had Knights and Magic recommended to me. The protagonist is a bit of a Gary Stu and the pacing for the first episode was very rushed (I actually wonder if the rapid pacing may have contributed to the protagonist coming across as a Gary Stu) but overall I actually rather liked it, at least once I got further into the episode. Interesting medieval mechs, decent production values and fairly likeable characters. I particularly appreciated that the blonde step sister of the protagonist's friends was actually rather nice rather than being an annoyingly haughty antagonist as her position and character design might suggest.

Isekai Shokudou (Restaurant to Another World) is really charming. It's basically about a restaurant with a dimensional door where the proprietor serves Japanese food to a bunch of stock fantasy world characters (elves, a wizard, an elder dragon etc) once a week. The first episode was pretty fluffy but that doesn't really strike me as a big issue for a lot of the people here.

Aho Girl wasn't bad in terms of overall humour but I really cringed at the amount of violence. Slapstick with a slap on the back/shoulders or gentle bonk on the head is fine. But outright upper cuts given by a male to a female....*shiver* I can't abide by that. Final part of that episode was also cringy. A title like this really makes me appreciate Galko-chan more, which had some saucy moments but was able to handle them with subtlety or indirectly so that it went down well.

Oh boy, here comes NTR....why did this have to be the first of the yuri adaptations? Really hope this one doesn't cause people to be pre-judgemental of Citrus when it eventually airs. Read the manga and while I have a fair collection of yuri manga that I buy, this wasn't one of them.

Restaurant From Another World has some charm but ergh...isekai....Also this scenario really mirrors Bartender from years back with its atmosphere and escapism. That was very unique in style and approach. Merging isekai into something like that just gives it that generic vibe.

Love and Lies - the scenario of this one intrigues me. Am a bit concerned about how soft it feels to begin with but I'm guessing it will get darker later on. I'm not wanting to see something on the levels of Ikagami but some genuine conflict is needed. Hana Kanazawa voicing the female lead has given me some extra appeal.

Hajimete Gal is the title from this season that I'm really looking forward to. Having to wait another 6 days kinda sucks.


Guessing that the ballroom one and Dive will be the ones the populists gravitate too.

Not much that has caught my eye from the get go this season.

Thus far, the only thing I've watched an episode of is Netsuzou TRap of all thing, mainly just to see if it is as trashy as everyone says it is. In short, it is. Essentially it falls into the usual trap (hah!) of LGBT relationships in anime of one of them coming across as creepy and the other clueless, making it feel like one of them is taking advantage of the other.

You beat me to the punch there Spartan. It feels like the black haired girl in Netsuzou Trap is forcing her friend into things said friend is not comfortable with.

I actually kind of enjoyed the first episode of Knight's and Magic despite it being extremely rushed and the lead character being a bit of a Gary Stu. I found Isekai Shukudou rather charming. The fact that it's technically isekai doesn't really bother me as it doesn't strike me as a stereotypical isekai show. So far it's kind of on the fluffy side but it can be good to have a relaxing show.

To quote/paraphrase a review Shoukoku no Altair is more serviceable than spectacular but it seems like it could be a decent fantasy series with an intelligent lead character and an interesting setting inspired by Turkish history. I did have a bit of an issue with the miss fan service character because she seems to clash a bit with the setting though I do kind of like her mischievious streak.

At the moment the new series that caught my attention include: Made in Abyss, Isekai Shokoudo, Shoukoku no Altair and Tsurezure Children. I also was charmed by Action Heroine Cheer Fruit.

For carryovers Shingeki no Bahamut s2 continues to be fantastic for me.

Tomorrow (i.e. Sunday) some of the "big guns" for me in terms of new series finally arrive: Centaur no Nayami and Princess Principal.

I have somewhat mixed feelings on both of those series:

I was initially worried that A Centaur's Life/Worries is a cute slice of life show... set in a society that's developed along totalitarian lines because of the need to make all the different species get along. Also while there's something to be said about exploring your premise in detail there was one bit which got into "too much information" territory.

Princess Principale has great atmosphere, design, and production values. However the mix of "anime" elements and grittiness is a bit iffy for me. I also thought the girls revealed more information than was prudent. It does seem like it could tell some interesting stories though.

Well, I was wrong about the other titles too.

Ah well, maybe in October.

I feel kind of ashamed that I find Aho-Girl as entertaining as I do.

The male lead and his friends in Hajime no Gal are repulsive. Could they maybe have some sort of motivations and characterization beyond "I want to fuck some girl"?

Not particularly sold on Gamers, but the part with the Counterstrike parody struck rather close to home.

Seen the last two episodes of Princess Principal and thus far I have enjoyed it in spite of the unusual combination of spy thriller and moe. I have to agree with Darthtabby that the setting and atmosphere of the alternate early 20th century London are very well done, and the anime overall looks great. Will be following this one for now.

In other news, Netsuzou TRap is still trashy, Hotaru (black hair) is still a borderline rapist, and Yuma (orangish blonde hair) and her boyfriend are still dense enough to make great cover if you're ever getting shot at XD!

New anime that I got interested in...

1. Isekai Shokudou - relaxing anime.
2. Princess Principal - unexpectedly good.
3. Battle Girl High School
4. Action Heroine Cheer Fruit

So I managed to return to my old schedule now and was able to pick up a few shows.

New Game!! is turning out far more heavy than the first season just in 2 episodes which is great for some character development. I loved the first season for the fun weekly dose of sugar it gave but if the second season keeps up doing what it did these episodes it might just elevate the show a bit more in my opinion. Heavily recommended

Ballroom e Youkoso is actually turning out very fun even if the animation hasn't shown much of interest to me yet. The preview for EP3 shows some promise on that front though so let's see. One thing I noticed already is how the show seems to be hitting the tropes quite a bit and I can already see we're in for a relatively by the book sports show. It's not bad though, I haven't seen one of those in years so it's refreshing to me.

Gamers! first episode felt really good as well. The CS reference made chuckle quite a bit and the ending of the episode made me react in exactly the same way (and at the same time) as most of the cast. That probably says more about me than the show (how I'm too far down the rabbit hole of the genre tropes) but so far I'm sold. Pretty much by the books but seems like it'll be solid at least.

Koi to Uso looks strange. The character designs are beautiful but they look weird when in motion. The story itself has left me with lots of questions though. The premise in particular seems incredibly jarring when compared to the normality shown in the episodes proper so I'm hoping that they explore more of that apparent disconnect over the course of the season otherwise it might just be a waste of an interesting distopia.

Classroom of the Elite is a bit of a question mark. I'm sort of interested in the premise but, on the other hand, so much of the show seems borrowed from other places that I'm kind of getting Asterisk War vibes from it. On the other hand I managed to finish that one so it's not like I can't take some generic stuff from time to time and the premise can make for some decent action if they treat it right so I'll probably stick with the show anyway.

Fate/Apocrypha doesn't seem to be the best show in the franchise but it's been decently fun so far. Mordred and the cutest Berseker/Frankenstein ever are carrying the show so far but Jeanne D'arc shows promise as well. Can't complain about the lack of cute girls (and traps) in this one

Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2202: Ai no Senshitachi movies/episodes can't seem to come out fast enough. It's the only space opera show in ages, I'm desperately waiting for more! Maybe I should go dig out Banner of the Stars in the meanwhile.

Overall it seems like the summer season will be pretty light on my noggin. All in good fun though, perfect to relax at the end of a hot work day (no vacations till September for me this year )
