Eh, bored, may as well.
So, Kazuki. Generic male harem lead #5018. Except.....not.
Kazuki fits what in TvTropian is called The Ace. He's good at nearly everything, unlike the traditional protagonist who sucks at everything except when plot demands. He's not the average everyman, he's the ikeman superhuman all the other novels put in to be beaten so that the ordinary everyman protagonist can prove that regular guys can have a chance.
He's hardworking, attractive, strong, good with girls, not overly perverted, smart, and talented. However, he avoids the pitfall that Tatsuya and his ilk hit in that he isn't a God Mode Sue. He's good, but not the best. Kaguya is more powerful than him (at first), Kanae can match him in swordsmanship, and the other kings are far stronger. He manages to be someone to admire without being pure wish fulfillment.
He's also not completely naive. In one of the early volumes, spoilers from the main thread indicate he's forced to kill several basically innocent elven girls because Nyarlathotep had mind raped them beyond salvation. Instead of asspull "Shonen Hero Powerup" saves, Kazuki is forced to shoot the dog. Which adds an element of depth to the story you don't usually see.
Moreover, and this is my favorite part, he isn't passive towards the girls. He doesn't get tounge-tied or nervous or act like a ten year old around his crush. He actually pursues the girls, is straightforward about his feelings, and actively advances their relationship on his own initiative.
So yeah, he's part of the new breed of harem protagonists along with the likes of Arata and Satou Taketora. And so far my favorite of the bunch.
