The fun part is that, according to what was said in this video, HG perhaps never held the copyright at all. Imagine all the dicking around which could have been prevented if Big West would have enforced their claim years earlier.

I agree that it would be glorious to see HG brought low by a Macross/BattleTech alliance.

Maybe, although I'm not sure how this would relate to Macross material. IF HBS can get the court to dismiss the claims by HG, then this means that HG cannot prosecute BattleTech material anymore, as far as I can tell.

However, given the intransigence of Japanese companies in regards to their IP outside of Japan, I'm not sure if HG can't just continue to sit on their bogus "Macross license" and Satelite/Big West won't just shrug their shoulders and go "Eh, whatever, who cares about those Gaijin, we can still sell our overpriced BD's at home, herpderp."

*mumble* *grumble*

Then again, if Japanese anime companies ever changed their general way of doing things, I think fansubs would dry up very suddenly.

Regardless, HG's license is due to expire by 2020ish, or latest by 2021. No matter what they do, its a done deal.

Moreover, they recently ran into legal contest with Tatsunoko, so both companies are actually chewing each other out right now.

Speaking for me, personally, I haven't really watched a fansub in... years, if I'm being honest. I can't even remember what was the last one. I mean, I downloaded Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis, but I didn't even go through the hassle of watching the first episode of that.

I think Macross Delta was the last thing I actively downloaded, really. Oh, God.

Really, you didn't like Shingeki no Bahamut? It's a great series.

I essentially subsist entirely on fansubs, mostly HorribleSubs. So I'm kinda bummed that Jushinki Pandora is not getting subbed at all in English.

No, I liked it (apart from the ending), but... I find the process of watching fansubs nowadays too much of a hassle. Hooking up the computer to the TV (since most of the time, the encoding isn't friendly enough for the TV software to read it), loading it up and all that jazz... I'm lazy as fuck.

I prefer to simply go to Crunchyroll or Netflix and be done with it. I got used to a nicer user experience, is what I'm saying. Plus, the whole "pay the people that make the thing I'm watching" argument? I kinda dig that, I guess.

I still have a little bit of a collection, tho. Stuff you just can't seem to find anywhere else. Old stuff in somewhat nice encodes. I just don't watch it all that much. Or at all, if I'm being honest. But it's nice to know I could, if I ever wanted to, I guess.

Eh, it was of course not the happiest... but it was okay.

Anyway, since I don't even have a TV for almost two decades now, my entertainment in video format exclusively enters through my PC. Hence I don't have to reconnect any device like Beto. Probably the cause as well why I rely so much on fansubs.

But of course. I just don't let it consume me, like some people (I'm looking at you, Mass Effect 3).

The problem with ME3 is that it taints all of the franchise backwards and forwards, as well that it subverts the theme of ME3 entirely (at least if you are playing Paragon, i.e. correctly).
