I also agree with ippus, the forum is dead. Frontier's forum discussions were active even after the 2nd movie. Oh well. Them Delta stan salt is real. Too bad so sad.

Well, Animesuki overall seems to have had a drop in people who visit the forum overall. If you look at the Sword Art Online and To Aru No Majutsu Index forums, which both have currently active series and are big franchises, there is are very few people posting in the episode threads. I mean, we got way more discussion in this private group than those two franchises have together.


But, still, Macross is currently of course dead. Delta was mostly a flop with the western fanbase (and I think the Japanese one, too) and aside from some occasional morsels for Frontier fans, no new Macross series has been announced. I do wonder what Kawamori is doing with his time currently, normally he is bringing out some new off-the-wall series between Macross shows. Then again, the last shows he has done were actually so bad that he might have problems getting hired for new stuff. Just speculating, but there really was a noticeable drop in quality over the last years in his output.

Delta survives due to Walküre. Most of the changes for the movie were to shift focus on what the audiences responded positively to. And even then there is almost no merchandise coming out, not counting vf models. It wasn't a flop, but it was a long shot from being a hit. Not even close to Frontier.
Index is such an old series, if they picked up where they left off last time, then the novels have been out for an eternity for anyone to read. Hell, fan translations were out when Index II ended. SAO has this too, but I dropped that series after I read the part of the LN (that was online only), where the writer tried his hands at a sex scene and I wanted to die.

Yeah, Kawamori did that one anime which I dropped after one episode. Mostly due to its premise recycling about five other of his past anime and one set of incredibly tasteless giant tits. But that does kinda feed into my point, that the quality of his products has dropped immensely in the last ten years.

And, yeah, Index and SOA are old franchises by now, but they still have active series and the discussions are almost dead. I mean, most of the last set of episodes get only 20 comments, total? ReCreators had way more discussion and that series had only a megathread and not its own sub-forum. As for the quality of writing on SOA, it's still pretty "meh" to actively bad. It certainly doesn't touch a really good series like Log Horizon.

I guess the real test to see if AnimeSuki still has lots of traffic will be when the new Code Geass series comes out.

Looking at the lists, it seems like Delta didn't do awful overall at least as far as anime is concerned with DVD/BD sales (No. 161 in 2000-Present, Average Sales of 10,000) but it's average is...1/4 Frontier.

It's also being beat by the following in series average (In bold are the series that beat it in overall sales):



For an anime overall it seems to be doing reasonably well. For a current-ish Idol show that sells on animu pop musicals, flashy cute costumes, a big ol name and mechas though, it's performing extremely mediocre at best. Most of the idol shows are making crazy bank with less volumes and episodes to sell.

Despite Code Geass 2018 Movie being on the list, for some reason Delta movie still doesn't have JPBox Office records yet on the site.
Frontier was announced in Kadokawa Cineplex and Shochiku Multiplex theaters, playing at about 30ish screens for each movie but they managed to rank on debut weekend box office:

With Delta though...well in english sites they describe it as being played in "mini theatres" but main macross site seems to point to Toho Cinemas. Wiki says it's like the second biggest chain in Japan so I'm not entirely sure what the difference between that vs 30 screens in cineplex/multiplex would be. It did air on the same weekend as Code Geass which did chart at #7

But despite Delta supposedly topping mini theatre charts https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/new...anking/.127765) it's pretty much missing in the jp boxoffice list. I can't find it anymore but I've checked a japanese site on this before too and pretty sure I saw Code Geass but not Delta. Until actual numbers pop up though I'm just gonna assume it did about as lukewarm as the series sales. Not bad enough to tank, not good enough to brag.

As for why they would make another movie, rather than Walkure specifically, I think Delta likely was given more life with Uta Macross: Smartphone Deculture releasing in August 2017 to keep relevance up for the songs and concerts, which seem to be their main sell for Delta in the first place. To this day Delta does far less on actual character figurines and merchandise unless it's fan products for the live shows and fanpages. With another movie it means more songs, and with more songs it's more mobile game levels and costumes, thus more monies.


Again, unless more stats come out to refute it otherwise...

Yeah, kinda what I figured. Forgot about Uta Macross. The moment Freyja popped up I admit I deleted the game. If I have to sit through runepikapyuwhatever or Hayate's usual shallow bs lines, I'm gonna die for realz.

Maggy: Like I said, a lot of people probably grew tired of waiting and either dropped Index or just read the novels. They really aren't long.
As for SAO, I have friends who read the GGO arc and were let down by season 2, so that might explain that. At least for western audiences. The disturbing part is that both Goblin Slayer and SAO 3 peaked on audience rankings (western) with their rape episodes... ew.
