Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu
Just recently picked this up and caught up with it, and wow, I'm glad I did! This show is awesome. It definitely feels like the isekai fantasy answer to
Steins;Gate which is great, but there's another thing that I absolutely adore that it shares many strengths and similarities too, and that's the
Muv-Luv VN trilogy. Especially Subaru's struggle with the whole world against him and his accompanied sanity slippage and glorious breakdowns remind me a lot of Takeru's conflicts, and Rem in turn reminds me of Meiya who was also my favorite heroine in
Muv-Luv. Speaking of Rem, she has truly become a phenomenally likeable and well-developed character, to the point where I find myself watching the show just for her half of the time. Rem is the best girl. And episode 15 was insanely intense and well done, it absolutely blew me away with how awesome it was! I'm so glad I finally picked up this show, and big props to
Triple_R for convincing me to watch it!
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 4: Diamond is Unbreakable
Episode 14-15 had awesome animation and direction and the new OP is totally making me hype for later events. David Pro really fixed up the pacing from Part 3 and they're doing a fantastic job with both this show and
Planetarian.
Macross Delta
Delta isn't perfect; I must say that there are some small issues I have about this show, particularly about Mirage's seemingly constrained character development and the cartoonishly evil portrayal of the NUNS higher ups. With that said,
Delta still continues to impress me with just how great it is. Freyja and Hayate's relationship is absolutely magical and this show is almost guaranteed to be my romance anime of the year.
Kuromukuro
I'm two episodes behind on this, but I doubt my opinion will change that much. Very solid and well-done mecha and SoL anime.
91 Days
Intriguing mafia story.
Love Live! Sunshine!!
This anime is a wild card for me. On the one hand I'm very excited to see Aqours on the screen and they're doing a good job at making them entertaining. On the other hand they're copying the feel and execution of the original
Love Live anime way too much. It's still up in the air whether this show will work in the end.
Planetarian
Great anime adaptation of a great VN. Aside from the awkward ED, this is pretty much everything I wanted.
Mahou Shoujo? Naria Girls
If you thought
gdgd Fairies and
Teekyuu were low budget, think again. This show looks like it was made on 1000 yen. I tried watching it mostly for the funny radio show feel of the spontaneous voice acting, but even that wasn't that good. Dropping this, if only it was a tiny bit better it could at least have been the "so bad it's good" show of the season.
Regalia: The Three Sacred Stars
Yeah, I'm done with this. Dropped. Couldn't make it through the 3rd episode without getting bored and pausing to take a break, and then I accidentally opened another anime episode without realizing I still had it unfinished. It's so dull, I just can't make myself give a single damn about the characters or anything that's happening. Which is a pity because this is one of the very few anime that does traditionally animated mecha in this day and age, and I want to see more shows capture the kind of smooth and awesome 2D mecha animation that
Regalia has but with a better execution.
Tales of Zestiria the X
The other fantasy series this season. While I'm not completely sold on the story and characters yet, they certainly got the feel down well. This anime's production levels are glorious. The backgrounds are beautifully detailed and there are plenty of breathtaking shots that really give me the feel of an epic fantasy series unfolding before my eyes.
New Game!
It's gorgeous and it's super duper cute. This anime was absolutely made for Dogakobo, and they're doing a great job with it. Also Hifumi is the best girl.
Kono Bijutsubu ni wa Mondai ga aru!
Picked this up on a recommendation and I don't regret it. This is a very cute and funny series. Colette is the cutest. Also has some nice music.
