Hrm, there are a few years I'd love to relive as well. Though maybe not in a loop.

So I also heard of a SHANG-CHI movie in development.

From the premise of it, it looks like a Bruce Lee movie. Just without Bruce Lee...

So....a Bruceploitation movie??

I'm actually dreading this Shang-Chi movie. The potential for a bad - or worse, middling - thing (after what we got from Iron Fist) is enormous... Then again, the director seems a fine choice, as both of his movies I've seen I've enjoyed. Plus, he's worked with Brie Larson (twice), Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan. I'd say he's got at least some familiarity with the Marvel "family", at least.

Let's hope the Russo Brothers can use the Captain Marvel character better than whoever wrote & directed her in her own movie. Then again, they made Starlord particularly facepalming in Infinity War just so that the plot can keep on going, so.........we'll see.

I still remember the horrors that is the 'The Clones of Bruce Lee'.

Also Destin Daniel Cretton doesn't exactly have... erm, that much credit? Heck, Shang-Chi is shaping up to be a clone character of Bruce Lee, so if they are going to make a movie, they should get someone from the source, say Yuen Woo-ping, who did 'The Matrix', 'Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon', and 'Kill Bill' among others.

OTOH, speaking of exploitation movies, it would appear John Wick movies are getting cloning blues lately. First we've got Polar starring Mads Mikkelsen, and the latest being Asher, starring Ron Perlman. They all tell the same story of course, that contract killers just aren't allow to retire, so they went back to their bosses and kill them.

Oh, and of course if you also count Killing Gunther on that list...

No one counts Killing Gunther, Tak. No one sane, at least...

Why not? It's about an old hitman who wanted to retire, but somehow denied the option due to forces beyond his control.

I meant it more in the way of the quality of the film, not the theme. That movie just wasn't good, IMHO. I love Arnie, but... I couldn't enjoy that. And I really wanted to like it, ever since I first saw that poster (which is the best thing about the movie, tbh).

As for the retired assassin that can't leave, I may be stretching here, but I don't think that's a new theme. Thinking about it, I'm way more partial to those "early" Chow Yun-Fat roles, like The Killer and The Replacement Killers. Grosse Point Blank is a good example, as well. Also, Ghost Dog. I love that one.

Oh... Who could forget Kill Bill? Me. I almost did.

So, yeah, I just saw Captain Marvel. It was... okay. Loved the space stuff, but I'm a science fiction nerd and I always love cool looking space stuff. Brie Larson was as wooden as a giant redwood tree, though. I found Jude Law as Yon-Rogg much more charismatic, which should say something. The rest of the movie was fine, but nothing too outstanding. Honestly, the best things about the movie were the Stan Lee intro and that the next movie will be Avengers: Endgame.

I know Marvel needed to publish something between Infinity War and Endgame, but this movie and Antman seemed to be too bog standard for me. I hope the next movies after Endgame will be as innovative as Thor: Ragnarok for the entire franchise.

Heh, went back and saw Aquaman again, because it deserved to be watched more than once, so I did.

Then I realize, Black Mantah wouldn't be out of place in a Super-Sentai show. Prince Orm reminds me so much of Dynasty Warriors it's not even funny, especially that one character. Not to mention the way he gutted that sub? Taken straight out of Gundam.

Of course, I absolutely still dig the scene when the Kraken showed up to kick ass, that part never gets old.

Also, octupus playing drums. Difficult to top that.

And that scene oddly reminded me of the Star Wars cantina.

Yeah, it had that kind of charm.
