Pirates 5 is actually better than Pirates 3 & 4. Mostly because Jack Sparrow & Barbossa show more character than just being pirates for the hell of it. It also does not have the bait-&-switch approach like Pirates 3 where the trailer highly suggested the war with all the pirates at the end and the movie did not deliver at all. Instead, we spent a lot more time watching Jack Sparrow interacts with his clones in Davy Jones' Locker for absolutely nothing and totally killed the pacing and momentum of the movie.

BTW, we got an IMAX now in our cinema of choice. It's only in the main hall and we actually have to pay a bit extra for every movie aside from our monthly suscription we see in it. But it was totally worth it for Aquaman.

Did Aquaman have a huge, gigantic battle of opposing armies as depicted in the trailer?

Yes, and there's a freakin' kaiju in it.

Holy shit, did it ever. Also, the most epic kiss since Sheryl and Alto kissed before the grand battle in episode 24.

I love how Magnus’s list has only science-fiction (and some fantasy, like Groundhog Day) movies on it.

I kinda dig that Last Action Hero is still in there. Holding on to your taste is a nice thing.

It's a great movie. Here's a more nuanced view on it:

I'm kinda afraid that there will be more really great movies next year (or later) and I'll have real problems throwing other movies off that list. I guess Robin Hood and Zootopia will have to go next, because I just cannot not love Tron: Legacy.
