So I can't accept that as a legit criticism of Frontier.
Come to think of it, Michael being a ladies man also is a point of conflict between him and Klan-Klan, so I think I can completely reject this argument. None of the three main young protagonists are pretty just for the sake of it, their looks factor into their character development and the plot.

I can easily turn that argument upside down by saying that the showrunners intentionally wrote them that way because they want pretty boys core-cast for their show. And you also forgot to mention Brera who eventually joined the good guys. Yet another pretty boy.

Not enough. IMHO Ozma is a more-polished Fokker. A bit too polished & watered-down for my taste.
Look, this whole "pretty boy"-argument stems from a hypothetical SDF-remake. Like I said, I have less issue with
Frontier coz at least the story support those characters. But I certainly would hate it if the future of Macross is pretty much "
idols & pretty boys as core characters". Where's the grit of
SDF,
DYRL &
Plus? Where's the variety of
7? Or at least where's the subdued character-design decency of
Zero?
