I just kind of chalk it up to bad writing. (Sorry, karice

;;;; ) On the one hand I get what they were going for, but on the other hand, like with a lot of things in this show, the presentation is awful. What the Nuns did in no way excuses or justifies what Wind are doing now. Plus a lot of stuff is based on assumption, like the stuff ippus said about them being an honorable society until getting betrayed with the bomb. I can totally see that may be what they were going for, but to get there you have to do a lot of blind guessing.
Of course the majority of the time it's been over exposition, ie kicking the "Show don't tell!" rule out the window, but at the same time when they try to be subtle they are doing it wrong. One thing we could have used exposition on are the planets and societies. Mirage is another character who suffers from this, though in her case it's more like being over shadowed by the MC duo. And, honestly, she has it better than Arad, who has a one note personality, same for Ernest, Chuck, the twins, Boogie etc.
It's also kind of a strange thing that people would want me to accept that Wind has different societal norms, legal stuff etc. But at the same time I'm also supposed to draw a comparison between their version of a noble knight and the traditional image. For starters, using mind controlled people to kill others isn't very chivalrous. Neither is screaming at teenage pop idols and trying to murder them.
Anyway, I don't feel terrible with how I see the writing at this point, simply because I've seen bad Kawamori stuff in the past. And really bad stuff from Satelight. It happens. I wish it wasn't Macross, but well. At least I get to read and post here, I do enjoy some of the discussions, I can filter out the rest.
And thanks for the well wishes, I'm really trying to get better.
