I think now that everybody here has seen the movie we can dispense with spoiler tags.

Could you imagine DP being in Avengers 4 and verbally shitting on all the dead Avengers while Cap and Tony watch him with "What the fuck, man?" looks on their faces?

Anyway, yeah. Dark as fuck and I really liked that as a culmination of those years of storytelling. I think the only thing I was not really down with was Loki being killed so early, but then again Tom Hiddleston is such a scene stealer that he could not be allowed to take the spotlight away from Thanos. I can only hope they reverse the Asgardians (and Loki's) death later on, because otherwise Thor: Ragnaroks message "Asgard is a people, not a place" is kinda undermined with only about one Asgardian left.

My prediction is that most of the surviving Avengers will actually have to sacrifice themselves to bring back half the universe. A lot of the older actors contracts are up and some of them want to move on and this would be the perfect moment to have Tony Stark and Steve Rogers go out in a blaze of glory. I thought Natascha would probably go as well, but I've heard talks that a Black Widow movie is in the making.

The hint is kind of staring right at us, when you stop to think about that, really, out of all the big names, almost only the original Avengers - and Ant-Man and Captain Marvel - are really “left”, right? They’ve got a clear opportunity for real drama, next time around, since they’ve already shown that they’re not really all that afraid of flack.

I kinda like that attitude, obviously.

This movie zoomed by so quick I forgot I had to pee! Three hours felt like nothing, and I was earning for more when the movie finally ended. This in contrast to The Last Jedi, where I felt restless after an hour and a half

Ugh, this movie was so good!!

They really, really, really need to include Deadpool in Avengers. After what had transpired in this movie, they need someone to lighten up the mood, and Captain Marvel ain't that person. Also, DP is invincible

Well, there's still Rocket. I really don't think Deadpool is the tone they will be going for in Avengers 4.

To be honest, I'm not sure if they will be able to properly convey the trauma the characters will have to work through after the events of this movie. Hell, not even to speak of the rest of the world. I'm not expecting Avengers 4 to be a light-hearted affair until the heroes have made some serious headway into resetting the status quo.

I gotta admit, the drama mixed with comedy this time felt a bit strange. Sometimes it worked, other times... ...

Man, the comedy was really light, this time around. Mostly little zingers, and (to me) every single one landed. I mean, this movie delivered, in my estimate.

And it felt nice, that the sections of the movie felt almost completely different: like, when you were in the Guardians ship, it felt like a Guardians of the Galaxy movie, you know? Then, when you were in Wakanda, or Doctor Strange's place, it was almost a complete tonal shift. With complete musical cues and lighting differences and all.

I fucking loved it, myself.

Well, good to know that we are all on the same page around here, this time.

Yeah. For me, the comedic banter between the female heroes during the Wakanda war is a bit out of place when the Wakandans around them are dying left and right. I mean, on one spot, we got the Goro-aliens ripping the crap out of the Wakandans, yet on another spot, we have Black Widow doing quips like "eww, that's gross..." after Wanda killed Midnight. At that point, I was like "Goddammit, Marvel, why can't you hold back just a little bit and let the serious atmosphere grows steadily?". If there's a time where they need to reign in their comedic sense, it's this big no-holds-barred battle. Heck, even Okoye did a quip during the battle when plenty of her Wakandan comrades were getting torn apart left and right. That's so not like Okoye who loves her country and its residents like no-one else.

Other than that, I don't really have a big problem with this AIW. It's a lot of fun with almost no dull moments. All the fights are great, the acting are spot on, the main villain is very good, the twists and easter eggs are nice and neat and the chemistry between characters are off the charts (except for the Captain America's party which I found a bit lacking). I'll give it 8.5/10 and that's really high for me. But when it comes to downer ending, so far, no other superhero movie is as ballsy as TDK. That's because by the time people see the ending of AIW, Avengers 4 is already around the corner to continue the story and (possibly) fix things up. On the other hand, TDK has no pre-planned sequel. Heck, at some point, Nolan didn't want to make any more Batman movie after TDK but WB just went after him relentlessly until he finally shit out TDKR. That's why TDK's downer ending is more ballsy to me.

PS: I don't like the blonde Widow. Is this another case of an actress being full of herself to the point where she refuses to change her appearance to match the character? Jennifer Lawrence did this before in X-Men: Apocalypse where she refused to apply the blue paint, prosthetic and makeups for Mystique.

There is always Watchmen.

Hmm, in my head, I am wishing for the involvement of the X-Men and Deadpool, though I know that won't happen. Still, I do want to seem them in the next Avengers film.

OTOH, NOT really looking forward to Marvel's version of Superman.

It is less ballsy than TDK since Snyder practically copy pasted the Watchmen comics for the movie with only some changes here and there. There's always a sense of obligation to end the movie on a downer ending just like the comic because that's what people expect out of a Watchmen adaptation movie. TDK's ending is bolder as a movie because there's no obligation for Nolan to go that way. Nolan can end it happily and people will still praise the movie but the guy just had to bring it to another level and he did it magnificently.

Nolan's Batman should've ended with TDK since the death of Heath and Nolan's insistence to not even use the Joker character afterward (out of respect) is like putting huge shackles on TDKR to prevent it from reaching its true potential. I'd really like to go to an alternate universe where Heath survived and Nolan made his third Batman movie with him to end the Batman saga (or maybe even continuing on to make a series of Batman movies). That would've been amazing.

@Tak: The Sentry and Hyperion. Captain Marvel is nothing like Superman, though.
