Here's some random trivia I found out:
The numbers in Japanese equipment names are centered around the imperial year system.
1940 was imperial year 2600, so everything named in that year was type 0.
Stuff that came out in 1943, the last year of the war where Japan was doing well enough actually make anything, is Type 3.
Type 93 stuff, is from like 1933. (Imperial year 2593).
That's why the smaller number stuff is usually better.
