Hahaha, s'okay. ^_^ I personally forgot myself, to the point that when I treated yesterday as a normal Thursday and stayed a bit late to talk to my Italian prof, my sister panicked and started getting weird ideas of what had happened to me and some such. It was a big mess and I was confused when I got home and immediately got yelled at. @_@

@Laith: Thank you! Heh, it does happen as you grow older: More things fill your mind and birthdays sort of lose that specialness they used to have when we were kids. Does this mean we're old?

I write down important birthdays to remember in my address book, and, well, you haven't been in that until this summer for obvious reasons. I thought it was in October sometime, but didn't know when...

...I'm always so amazed by you and others who have such a facility for languages. I'm such a Generic American with my command of only a single tongue.

And I wouldn't say you're old. I mean, my wife (44) and I (40) still make a big deal over our birthdays, so...maybe the two of you are instead suffering from post-adolescent ennui?

I'm super-generalizing, but I think pretty much all 1st and 2nd immigrant-type families know multiple languages?

And it's not just Fuyu : I forgot my birthday one year too while living at residence, and when my parents called me asking me if I had something to tell them all tongue-in-cheek (it's Chinese tradition to thank your parents on your birthday, because they gave birth to you on that day), and my eloquent reaction was "...huh?"

Depends. If you don't like being called old then we are just very mature persons. If not then yeah we are old.

@Hilarious forgotten birthday stories: Oh me, me, me. Last year I when I just woke up and went to eat something I got hugged by my aunt (who by all accounts is my mother except biologically but that's for another time,) and I hugged her back since, we do that all the time. Then she says that I'm old(er) And I pretty much stared at her confused until I remembered what day was. MAn that was fun~

Wait... that memo might have gotten lost in the mail. Or my parents figured I was much too deviant a child to adhere to such traditions and never bothered telling me :'<

Hmm, forgotten birthday stories...I have one too. Sadly work related (would you expect otherwise?): my first firm had a very nice tradition of giving a box of chocolates to people on their birthdays. Unfortunately the chocolates were rather versatile, and were sometimes also given to those who were moving on to greener pastures. So one day, HR deposits a box on my desk in the morning with a small note slipped under the box. When I arrived, I was all "What manner of trickery is this!?!?" ... then I read the note which reminded me it was my birthday. XD I had dinner plans with my friends that night for my birthday, but somehow didn't make the connection at the time ...

Well, I know that it's Taiwanese tradition at least, I don't know about Hong Kong or mainland China. Or maybe my parents lied to me that it's a tradition and it's really not @_@ .

Apparently I spent Halloween out catching a cold. Unhappiness.
