Alright, quite a few of the shows have ended. Let's recap my total impressions of them.
Akanesasu Shoujo: While I quite liked the show at the start, it got consecutively less interesting as time went on. It still had some good moments, but nothing which really stood out. Deleted.
Ken en Ken: Aoki Kagayaki: I found the show in the end to be a bit too melodramatic. What they chose to tell in the short time they had was pretty okay, but especially the sister vs. sister thing felt terribly forced for the last episodes. Deleted.
Thunderbolt Fantasy: Touri-ken Yuuki 2: This was somehow way less epic than the first season. Despite the fight choreography still looking very good, I think the focus on that cursed sword in the second half of the season brought the show down. Deleted.
SSSS.GRIDMAN: Overall a very interesting experience. I found Akane's redemption to be a bit forced, though, although from an in-universe standpoint it makes sense. She built the characters to root for her, so of course they would be invested in saving her. The show should have been a full 24 to 26 episodes, though. Still, deleted, since it doesn't match my standards of when I want to keep a show.
RELEASE THE SPYCE: Yeah, this was the light and fluffy version of Princess Principale (a show I happily still have on my hard drive). But aside from the funky soundtrack, nothing remains which wants me to keep this one. Deleted.
This sounds quite negative overall, but it only means that the shows were entertaining, but not entertaining enough to keep them. All in all, still a pretty good season. And we are keeping To Aru and SOA for next season as well. Which is good, because the Winter 2019 season looks pretty dry so far. But more of that when the previews are out.
Mid-season opinons:
To Aru no Majutsu Index III: Where's Biri-Biri, dammit? She's by far not enough in this show. And Index is way too much in it, grrrr. The current arc is a bit strange, with the UK and France being at the cusp of war (a strange prospect for an European nowadays, I can tell you that), saints running around everywhere and Touma kinda just running away from everything and helping whomever he can on the way. It kinda doesn't seem to be his story at the moment, if you know what I mean.
Sword Art Online: Alicization: This is entertaining enough, but the fight choreography is pretty atrocious (OMG, will both sides scream and clash their giant swords together and grit their teeth? Why, yes they will! Again. And again. And again.). The evil guys are about as subtle as a sledgehammer. And the last episode was exposition central for the second half of it. Still, I'm entertained for a few minutes and it isn't totally terrible. Aside from the "attempted rape" scene from two episodes ago, which was pretty fucking horrific. Holy shit, Mr. Writer Man. Please finally find another way to make your antagonists look bad.
Ah, yes, and since every anime reviewer on the internet who counts (i.e. Gigguk) is recommending that slime isekai, I guess I'll be checking it out when I find some time.
