Yes yes it did. China pulled a $200 million + in the box office for WarCraft, saving it from utter oblivion. Yeah, yeah, I can understand the perks of owning the largest theater chain in the United States...

Of course, this also means Hollywood is obligated to push certain Chineseness into movies these days. I mean, check out the last Transformers movie. It literally glorified the Chinese military during the last scenes. Hollywood was never this polite, not even to the English in WW2 movies.

Welp, prepare for more censorship and attack on the freedom of speech by Hollywood in the years to come.

I mean, it certainly won't help some movies, anyway... The new Ghostbusters didn't launch there. It seems Suicide Squad wont be going to be released there, either... It's still a bit weird.

Speaking of Ghostbusters, I am glad it flopped.

Well so far this ends the summer blockbuster season. Been pretty lackluster this year. The better movies were at the beginning of the year. Ghostbusters completely turned me off due to Sony's SJW posturing and Suicide Squad never held much interest for me anyway.

I did enjoy Star Trek. It felt like it matured the series a bit more and did feel more like a "Star Trek" than the last two. Its too bad they did not take the time to redesign the -A model. Although for me all the space battles in this series of Trek Movies kinda sucked. DS9 Sacrifice of Angels did better.

Independence day was lackluster vs the first, but it was nice to see the band back together, even though they killed like 80% of them.

For years end, its also pretty slim pickings.

- Rogue One is a given
- Jack Reacher. I wanted to watch the original, but caught it on TV later and it was pretty fun. Typical Cruise movie, but eh its popcorn.
- Sully. Might watch this one. I had the pleasure of getting a presentation from his Co-pilot at a RC convention 2 years ago. Took him about an hour to explain what happened in only a few minutes. But it was very interesting.
- Dr. Strange. Don't know much about the character, but since he will be part of the MCU, might as well see the next link in the chain.
- Assassins Creed. Have not actually played the series, but all my friends do, so I will probably be going.

Well, looking back, I really enjoyed some of the movies of this year. Creed, Hateful 8, Deadpool, Zootopia, 10 Cloverfield Lane, Civil War, Warcraft (yep, really liked that one), The Nice Guys, Star Trek Beyond, The Legend of Tarzan and Jason Bourne have all been good movies. There was just as much dross, but since I pay 22 Euros per month and can visit as many movies as I like, it's a wash for me.

Rogue One and Dr. Strange are the two movies to look forward to for which I have high expectations. There are a few others which are niche action movies I am happy to see, but none of them look like offering something beyond violence and explosions. Although I really am looking forward to see what they do with the newest Underworld movie and if Kate Beckinsale still looks hot in leather.

Every time I hear this Dr. Strange... I think of this old Stanley Kubrick flick...

For some odd teason, I am also quite fond of Underworld series and Kate Beckinsale. Well, her and Emily Blunt.

Now, can we please NOT have a GITS movie?

If Emily Blunt wouldn't often wear that giant frown on her face in her movies (or maybe her face is just formed that way), she'd be quite more attractive. She was very hot in Edge of Tomorrow.

Sorry, Tak, but the GiTS movie is coming. At least, there won't be an Akira one.

Oddly enough, I am rather fond of Emily Blunt's 'frown'. No, seriously. I still think she would be a perfect Sarah Conner in future Terminator films.

Well, just saw Suicide Squad. Actually not all that bad, although they tried too hard on the climactic final fight, with the swelling choir and all that. Should have been more like the rest of the movie.

Let me guess, the final fight was like:

Aaaactually, no. Joker is in, like 5 minutes of the movie and has nothing to do with the end fight.

No, I was asking if the final fight had been too serious.

And suicide squad without Joker? What blasphemy!

Oh, I actually liked this Joker, as much as it was a difference between the last iteration and this one. The time he was on screen, it was interesting and his romance with Harley Quinn is all kinds of messed up but good.

And the problem with final fight was more that they tried to make it unnecessarily epic, with very loud swelling orchestral music and all that. The movie otherwise had lots of humor, most of which was okay-ish to good.

No, man, the humor is bad, Very bad, amateurish almost. The editing is piss-poor and the acting? Only Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Viola Davis get away with it... The story? What story? And the final fight? Another "magical/technobabble" contraption that throws light into the sky and the good guys need to destroy? I mean, c'mon... There's no two ways about it, IMHO. It's bad. Joker was not all that bad, but he's in the movie for, like, five minutes or so. Batman was bit goofy when he was in close-up - and when he went to bust Deadshot, I wanted to punch HIM! That's not fucking Batman, wake up, DC!!!

You guys complain about Delta? This movie doesn't even come up to it's shins.

Maybe I went in with low expectations and was positively surprised. But I thought that the main six characters (The military dude, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Amanda Waller, Captain Boomerang and El Diablo) were pretty decently portrayed. Yes, some of that is pretty shallow, but I don't know man, I was entertained. Until they went all "Hi ha ho ha, epic music, very loud, many explosions, bright lights, hi ha ho ha!" in the end, which didn't fit the general tone of the movie, which was about a ragtag bunch of misfits who were pretty much assholes.

A comparison to Delta isn't really possible, since one is a movie with two hours, the other is a series with 10 hours by now.

It's very possible, as they tried to portray a ragtag "family" of sorts - c'mon, there's even a risible attempt at a rousing speech by the gangbanger latino at the big finale fight - that sticks together after being thrown into the tick of it in, for what? A whole day? That's actually believable, to you?

Not to me. Nuh-uh. Maybe if they went in a few missions or something, if they showed them actually going through an arc of redemption? Only El Diablo - and, maybe Deadshot (and that's a big maybe) - got close to it. None of the others earned it. And that sucks.

Eh, that's true, that El Diablo's sudden "Muh family!" speech came out of thin air. I almost instantly forgot that it even existed, as evidenced by me not even thinking of it until you mentioned it. I saw the group suddenly working together more as a "Okay, the world is going to end, unless we do this" kind of thing. The whole "family" aspect didn't jive with me, either.

And Harley didn't really want a redemption, I think, she wanted her snugglebunny Mistah J.
