Full Metal Alchemist... is this a joke?

Oh, the movie just proved my point about live adaptations. I have one word "STOP!". Its really that bad. The acting is bad, the CG is bad, the cast is bad. Basically, the entire gig is an embarrassing live action cosplay party that might as well be called a parody. Whoever played Riza cannot even pretend to use the weapons in her hands convincingly, I suspect her pair of 1911s were shrunk to a .22 just so they could fit her palm.

Why do they even bother? This movie serves no point and probably wasn't even profitable. Ugh, what a horrid waste of resources.

Tak, why do you keep watching the bad Japanese LA adaptations? Watch the good ones, godammit!

For me, LA FMA is just as bad/good as LA GITS. Both of which should never exist in the first place, unless you got a brilliant filmmaker who gets what makes the animanga tick and know how and skillfull enough to condense the stories in movie format.

Also, I managed to watch Black Panther, yesterday. Very nice movie, with some crappy CGI, in places. The family (and the whole theater) seemed to agree with me, there. So, that’s that, then.

Well, BR 2049 did win the following awards:
Visual Effects
Cinematography

Which is well-deserved. Roger Deakins' cinematography is godly and in term of VFX, only War for the Planet of the Apes came closest to matching BR 2049's quality. Kong: Skull Island is a close third and the rest are just meh (Guardians 2 & TLJ).

And yes! My fave (The Shape of Water) won Best Picture . I've been following the awards for that movie since the Golden Globe. Congratulations again, Guillermo del Toro. Your unofficial Creature from the Black Lagoon-remake gets you the Oscar!

This is why Universal should've handed the key to the Dark Universe to del Toro since he knows how to do monsters right.

Four Oscars to Gordo's movie was pretty good, wasn't it?

Should have been more, but Frances McDormand was godly in Three Billboards, there's no other way around it. Allison Janney's win for best supporting actress was an upset to me, tho - I wasn't expecting that.

Baby Driver coming up empty was a travesty, tho. Sorry, I very much dislike Dunkirk.

Huh? Ya’ll actually care for the Oscars?

I care about the movies I like, man. More awards - or even nominations - mean more prestige for them (and the people who worked on them, consequently).
That can only lead to good things, in my mind's eye.

This line about "the Oscars not mattering" is pure, unadulterated bullshit, IMHO. Sorry for my french.

And thats the thing. There are movies I 'like', but not 'love'. I like Dunkirk, I like Planet of the Apes, but I don't 'love' them.

The age of Hollywood 'icons' is fading, really quickly. No longer do I bear witness to genre-defining individuals. The only one individual closest to being an icon on this year's list is Gary Oldman, and he won a well-deserved Oscar, congratulations.

Maybe, maybe not. I know I didn't watch it. I thought it was a waste of time.

I'm not an Oscar-loyalist, but I like it when I see an Awards show actually awards those who are worthy. This Oscar 2018 presents some of the best judgement compared to many other years. For example, I find Oscar hit one of its low points when they made Crash the Best Movie back in 2006.

And yes, I know anime rarely get fair chances in Oscar, but at least the winner of the Animated Feature Film this year is actually one of the best of the bunch (Coco). Unlike Big Hero Six that won despite being several levels below its competition, Princess Kaguya and Song of the Sea back in 2015.

And, really, Tak... The fact that an R-Rated science-fiction movie where a mute girl fucks a fishman won a freakin' Best Picture Oscar is no small potatoes.

"Grinding Nemo", indeed.

Now I have to watch it.

I wonder if Hollywood producers even know his name. "Hey, get the monster guy!" they probably shout as they look for the one guy everybody knows plays monsters and aliens really well, while they are shoveling cocaine up their noses.
