Nope. It's just that you ignore what's in the canon, too, when it suits you.
Syfo-Dyas was removed from the Council,
BUT HE WAS STILL A JEDI KNIGHT. A very highly regarded one. Let's not forget the fact that Qui-Gon was also a very highly regarded knight as well and, according to Obi-Wan, only wasn't in the Council because he "
butted heads" with them quite often - and he wasn't really a conventional Jedi, either (he was also the one who brought Anakin into the fold, and we know how well that turned out).
Jedi were not above subterfuge and intrigue when it suited them - remember the "
Jedi mind trick"? - it's right there, in almost every story. It's just, when it's turned against them, it looks pretty bad. And it has very nasty consequences. For an Order that portents to guard peace and justice, to behave in such a manner, that's just poor form, wouldn't you say?
One nice place to see Jedi behaving out of the ordinary, IMHO, in the new canon, is the
Ventress novel. That's some good reading. It takes place in the thick of the Clone Wars. Some real nice work, there.
And, man, I don't defend
TLJ from any criticisms... You can criticize it all you want! Just don't ask me to agree with you, okay?
You wanna know something I
HATE about it? That
alternate scene about Phasma and Finn.
THAT should have been the one in the movie! I get that it's longer and all, maybe it would have taken people a bit some more time to get from A to B, but... it's such a cooler scene, overall...
GOD, I HATE THAT IT WASN'T IN THE MOVIE!!!
There, see? I can vent, too.
