And it's finally out. So, let's see if we get a few interesting shows this summer.
Peachboy Riverside: Well, that's firmly in the tradition of "put random English words together" for an anime title. Seems to be a pretty standard fantasy title and I am not that much of a fan of the character designs so far (especially the bunny lady), but as always with "classical" anime fantasy, I will at least give it a shot. Two episodes.
Scarlet Nexus: Maybe here the title will have some relevance. Otherwise, there's the very very very very very very very VERY standard anime scenario of "monsters appear in the modern world, world gets fucked up, recruits teenagers with special powers to fight monsters", in this case, uh, quasi-humanoid flower boquets? Okay. Anime. Honestly, that trite scenario is more ubiquitous than isekai, it seems to get used on every second action/adventure show in a modern setting. One episode.
Vanitas no Karte: Erm, the summary doesn't do the shows any favor. Blather about buying books being difficult (do it online, dunces) and an edgelord vampire who hates other vampires because they were mean to him. And, oh boy, the promo video. Fabulous guys being fabulous. One episode, hopefully the show is better than what the guys at RC wrote.
Otome Game no Hametsu Flag shika Nai Akuyaku Reijou ni Tensei Shiteshimatta…: The first season was excellent and charming, but also pretty conclusive in its ending. I am quite skeptical that they can continue the story without it losing what made it good in the first place. However, still gets a guaranteed watch due to the strength of the first season.
Genjitsu Shugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki: Okay, an isekai where a smart normie is summoned to save the kingdom by using his mind. Why not? Two episodes.
Tantei wa Mou, Shindeiru: I saw a promo of this some months ago and it looked exciting enough. Seems to be a modern adventure show, strong white-haired female protagonist, wimpy to neutral male random Japanese insert co-protagonist. Two episodes, because this season seems to be a bit sparse on the really exciting stuff.
Seirei Gensouki: Magical academia tournament arc, etc. The protagonists are one step too young for me, I think, but I'll try to be open minded. ^^ One episode.
Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu: Uuuuuhhhh... what is this? Shield Bro clone without Raphtalia? Doesn't look too bad, but the premise has been done. Well, still, two episodes.
Cheat Kusushi no Slow Life: Isekai ni Tsukurou Drugstore: For fucks sake, what's with all the isekai lately transporting people to another world to do mundane shit over there as well? One episode, if only to see how bad it sucks or if it somehow manages to be surprisingly good, which has happened once a year or so.
Meikyuu Black Company: Comedy isekai with obviously poor production values. Zero episodes.
D_Cide Traumerei The Animation: Ah, yes, the second obsession of Japanese anime titles, inserting random GERMAN words into the title. Seems to be a solid if staid (see my gripe about repeating premises above) adventure/action show. One episode.
Kaizoku Oujo: Well, wow, this looks to be something different. 19th century, British empire and samurai, lavishly animated. Pretty hyped by the promo video. Three episodes and probably a pick-up, unless the show turns out to be much worse than it seems. Premieres on Crunchyroll, though, so let's see how the sub situation will turn out.
Megaton-kyuu Musashi: Oh, look a mecha show! Oh, look, it's obviously for a younger demographic! Oh, look the character designs and mecha designs look silly! Bleh. Where have all the good mecha shows gone? One episode.
So, that's a lot of show, but so far only one which seems to be really exciting and a second one which is an automatic pick-up due to the merits of its first season. Count me to be rather pessimistic so far, but we'll see. There certainly have turned up good show in such line-ups before. Still, can't wait to see
Shield Bro S2 arrive later this year.
So, anything you guys are excited for? Any recommendations you want to give?
