Sooooooooooo....
Just saw RoS.
It's eminently "meh". I felt nothing. Thank the stars that The Mandalorian is there to remind us that good Star Wars is completely possible. Let's all forget this trilogy ever happened and hopefully Kennedy will be out soon and be replaced by Marvel guys.

Yep. There were plenty of movie theater showings available on the weekend. Other than Solo this has never been heard of for a Star Wars movie. The whole lot of them need to be show the Sarlac pit just out the door.
I have faith in John Favreau.

Well, empty theathers aren't a concern in Germany. They were running shows every hour at least and most of them were almost full.

Wow, seems everybody is apathetic about the movie, too, even not having seen it. No comments on my, ahem, great review?

Dude, they resurrected PuPuPapa Palpatine, that's just sacrilegious to the original trilogy. As I said before, I am not watching it.

Yeah, let's just say that his ressurected self wasn't his strongest showing, either. You're probably saving yourself a lot of facepalming. ^^
BTW, I got myself the trial month for Netflix to watch at least
The Witcher
(probably also Stranger Things S3 and some other stuff in the next days). Be back tomorrow to say how it was!

I went to go watch Jumanji this weekend instead.
I would say the movie is right on or even slightly better than the last. The character jokes were on point, the adventure fun and the risks of death even more important to these characters.
I also liked how everyone has kind grown or has to face life being thrown at them. Bethany is no longer as much of an airhead as she has gone out into the world to get more life experience since the last time we saw her. Spencer unfortunately was not in a great place in his life and his initial actions basically lead to the whole crew having to go back to Jumanji in the first place.
I lost it in one scene when they bring up Kevin Hart's character weakness for cake.

No cake!
(or whatever he said in English, saw it in German).
It was a good movie, but the magic from the first part (better said the reboot) has faded a little bit, because it was just so unexpectedly good back then. Still, looking forward to the very inevitable sequel to the sequel.

Alright, half-time assessment of
The Witcher
: It's pretty great. However, having played the games and knowing this is about polish folklore, I really could have done without one third of the very European lore characters suddenly being black or arabic or whatever. Yeah, yeah, it's 2019, diversity, blablabla. But c'mon. Next we are going to have a movie about Shaka Zulu featuring one third white characters as Zulu warriors, but of course
that
will never happen. :-/
Anyway, back to watching the story.

So, full review of the first season of
The Witcher
, which more accurately should be called "the first half of a full season of a story", because it really leaves you hanging just when things get really interesting.
Henry Cavill is pretty amazingly good as Geralt. Anya Chalotra is also really good as Yennefer, though overall I still very much prefer the version from The Witcher 3 (although that version has more years of experience below her belt which make her much more composed, so that should be taken into account for my opinion). Freya Allan as Ciri doesn't get enough to do this season to leave a distinct impression, but she's okay. There are other characters who definitely leave an impression, like Adam Levy as Mousesack and Jodhi May as Queen Calanthe. Joey Batey as Dandelion (with whom they've inexplicably chosen to use his polish name, Jaskier) is also pretty okay. But, with everybody but Cavill I'd rather have exact copies of their game counterparts. Cavill is as good as game Geralt, Chalotra comes close to game Yennefer in her presence, everybody else I'd prefer their game version.
People who have been done rather badly are Triss, whose actress was really mediocre, Fringilla Vigo, whose actress was actively anticharismatic and King Foltest, who looks and behaves nothing like his game counterpart from The Witcher 2.
I'm looking forward to the next season. Of course no adaptation can be perfect, but this one at least is pretty good to excellent, with the bad parts being the forced diversity (as explained in my last post), some mediocre to bad actors and, let's not forget, the scrotum armor on the Nilfgardians, which looks especially bad compared to the detailed armor everybody else wore. I sure hope they get the budget for next season to give them armor which looks more like the one from The Witcher 3, because the Nilfgardian armor there was badass, this one was definitely not. I'm not sure what to think about their version of dwarves, which range from real little people to not-standard-height-people, with no make-up effects or anything. Sure saved on the budget there. ^^
Still, highly recommended. Eight very enjoyable hours.

Oh yes, I have been anticipating The Witcher, and will give it a look-see.
...
Also Henry Cavill as Geralt looks like Legolas with scars. Oh, he finally shaved?
I still would have preferred if Nikolaj Coster-Waldau took the role, though.

I will say that Cavill really is great in the role. He really does look the part and acts it very well. Also, he does the voice of Geralt from the games, so that is another plus.

So, just saw
Charlie's Angels
. My take: Better than the last batch of movies and overall enjoyable. Not high cinema, however. ^^

... I dunno.
The trio look like my neighbor's kids... and...

I'm glad that there are people who still have the balls to say what needs to be said in major Hollywood award events like Golden Globe:

So apparently, there's a theatrical deep-sea horror movie that flew (or swam?) under my radar and I just realized it. Considering I'm a
sucker
for
the
sub-genre
, this trailer has my attention:

Yeah, Kirsten Steward wasn't all that bad in Charlie's Angels, either.

I like the first remake with Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore & Lucy Liu much much better.
Also, Carrie Fisher cameo!

I fucking hated those movies. The new version was way less campy, which resonated much more with me. Also, the characters were allowed to fuck up and quite a lot of it, too, which was very refreshing.
