Didn't realize Edge of Tomorrow was based on a Light Novel. I wonder how many people know that. As opposed to say the Dragonball movie, which everyone knows was based on an anime.

Actually to be honest I'm more or less fine with anime based live actions not becoming a major trend.

If I liked the first two X-Men films and haven't seen any of the ones since (or many recent superhero movies at all for that matter), would you guys recommend I see the new one?

Hmmm. Well, it would help if you would know what happened in X-Men 3 and X-Men: First Class. The new movie is very good, but it doesn't stop to explain those things to you, it just assumes that you know them.

Forget X-Men 3. That movie never existed. You should watch First Class, tho. Even if only because it's a good flick.

Oh, yes. That was fuckin' awesome, really.

Well, some things will only make sense if Darth watches X3, but the film really is fucking wretched. It's either getting why people react a certain way or not having to watch a bad movie. Weigh the ups and downs, I say.

Could you just give me a short list of things that happened in X3 that I should know about?

Things happen. The end.

Hooboy.

The relevant stuff is:

- Xavier and Cyclops are killed by Jean, who goes batshit crazy in the most stupid way possible, destroying the Phoenix Saga on the way. Wolverine kills Jean, which leaves him deeply traumatized.
- Meanwhile there is some sort of serum which depowers mutants, Rogue takes it in the end. There's some trouble between Rogue and Iceman, as he is interested in Kitty Pryde and of course Rogue doesn't like that.
- Magneto also is depowered by the serum, although not really.
- In a post-credit scene, Xavier seems to have transferred his mind into the body of a brain-dead comatose patient.

Now, they ignore half of that in Days of Future Past in the first place (Xavier looks like Patrick Steward without any explanation as to why, for example), but some parts of it are relevant to understand some of the reactions of characters in the movie. You'll see.

Overall, I am glad they changed the ending. The original ending pissed me off. More so than _________ of a Certain Pilot series.

Yeah, I thought the movie was really well done.

The funniest segment of the movie was nearing the end, when the British general enthusiastically announced that Chinese and Russian troops were moving across Western Europe. I had to hold in my laughter in the theaters but still managed to blurt a chuckle. I don't think anyone noticed, but that would have been a nightmare scenario for NATO during the Cold War, and even today

Well, the question here would be if NATO even exists anymore. They thoroughly would have failed at their job and there would almost certainly be a new military alliance in place.

Yeah, but the fact that British general was so-very enthusiastically announcing the fact was mind boggling.

Because you can just imagine the Poles going, "The Russians are coming to pillage save us (again)? HURRAY!!!"

Another bit of difference is the opening invasion. Operation Downfall was the aborted invasion of Japan that would have taken place in 1945, and was to be the largest amphibious assault ever attempted by the United States. The operation never went through for obvious reasons. Though the movie took place in Normandy (again for obvious reasons) as opposed to the invasion of the Japanese home islands in the novel, which was described as the largest amphibious assault ever attempted.
